This seems to be the best rooting guide available. This is the guide I used. It even has a video to show you how to root.

You can also use Cyanogenmod Wiki:

Just don't flash Cyanogenmod Flash whichever you want

I can tell you what worked for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1479831
No impact on my data and apps (bootloader still locked).
I'm running stock ICS on i9023.
Credits go to saurik who found the exploit (https://github.com/saurik/mempodroid)

There is guide how to do it even without unlocking BL

-We can install rom without unlock bootloader through RUU
-After unlock bootloader, I think you damaged warranty
You can install a ROM through an RUU, but not a custom one.
All roms? And root permessions? Guide?
Thanks
No..root is only with unlocked..guide in development section.
And in your opinion is Coocked rom better than original stock rom??? Guide?
There are some benefits to running custom rom depends on which one and people will vary on this its truly an opinion based thing. Also the warranty 'may' be void if you do. If it's an issue they deem related to the software you installed you're probably not going to be covered by warranty but if it's a hardware issue you should be covered

Sure, some custom rom are more smooth and fast of stock. If you have branded phone, with custom rom you can install the rom without the bloatware.

Dude, I'm sorry, this is going to come off rude, but i have to say, with the time you are spending asking for a guides, you could have spent two seconds in the development section and found what you are looking for. There are "stickies" for a reason!
can you link me a guide?
if i flash a rom the waranthy can be recupered?
uppppppppppppp
My friend had a custom rom, the phone break and they replaced the phone without issues. If your are afraid its better not no install

Let me explain, the problem is that the paint is flaking! if I unlock the bootloader to obtain root permissions, then I lost guarantee and therefore I did not replace (or wrong?).
if the problem is hardware, with bootloader unlocked is the same thing?
PS: I can not send time and unlock it later, because I would stay without Android and without phone and I could not!

How to root the latest JB

Hi, sorry for noob question, but what is the easiest way to root the latest firmware? I don't want to unlock bootloader.
Downgrade to ICS? Aslo I would like to save my data (game progress etc.).
I read a lot of tuts, but I ever don't know what to do.
You can't downgrade. At this time, the only way is to unlock the bootloader and flash root in.

I have the same question, I have a stock firmware, locked (I guess), updated to the latest version.
Can I use the following guide?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33117920&postcount=2
This is the only guide I know that works - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30516010

I have modified the part 3 of this guide and you will find here:

When I'm trying to reboot bootloader - "no device found"
I have installed USB drivers.

Sure you can IMO
You can do it on first.
Click to my sig, goto my index for tf300 and you will find the Asus unlock tool
But is it necessary? Can I root without unlocking?
As I said, if you are on JB bootloader, you cannot root without unlock your device...for the moment

I would like to say yes, but I fear that this won't work on your TF300TG... Sorry
I'm trying to unlock my bootloader via asus provided apk. I keep getting the error "An unknown error occurs, which maybe a network connection issue. please wait and try again later." Any know a fix for this?

i know u are really busy man but i also know if u want u can ) plz work on tf300tg if u want ) i like all developers <3
so it looks i'm like screwed? My TF300 is running JB and is not unlocked. And the ASUS unlock tool isn't working....so is there eventually going to have a way to root without unlock?
As I said a lot of time, you can't if you are not unlocked!

In JB i can't root if i'm not unlocked. Is that "forever" or a "just for now" thing? Because ASUS's unlock tool is giving me the error that it can't connect to the server. Should I just ditch my tf300 now?
I have the same issue about this error message and I search how is possible to unlock my tab with different method. Someone have idea?
Thanks

I think it's "just for now" and they're going to develop one tool for JB 4.2. Don't forget that this tool has been built in first for ICS version.

[Q] Can I root 4.3 ?

Hello everyone,
I had to send my phone back to Verizon due to hardware issues (I was rooted and running 4.1.2...). The new phone came with 4.3. Is it possible to root this? I saw in the main root guide that if i tried using that method, i'd brick my phone. So if you can point me to a guide for rooting 4.3, i'd like to get a good rom flashed on this thing..
thanks,
tommy

Click the link that reads "Saferoot for rooting after 4.3." Then once you've achieved root access, use Safestrap which is linked in that TW discussion thread.

You can root, but no AOSP roms. You can install a recovery called safestrap and run custom touchwiz roms.
It's all in the OP. Everything is linked there.
Edit: ninja'd....

[Q] I made a newbie mistake, I updated!

Hi All!
I updated my Nexus 5 to 4.4.3 OTA and didn't backup. I didn't think I would loose my root but, it seems I did. The phone is still unlocked but I can't boot into a recovery.
My question is, Can I root the phone again without loosing my data?
Thanks,
J

This. Rooting is as simple as flashing a custom recovery and flashing SuperSU.. If you seriously can't do that I recommend you don't even try to root.

I'm curious as to the reason for not using a toolkit? For me it was quick and easy but I don't mind having to do thing a different way. Thanks

At the point your at if your okay with a custom rom do this. Install kingroot, it is known as bloatware but you will flash it after. Use flashify to flash twrp after that. Flash a custom rom like lineage and you can get the latest version of android and you can root that.
