Hi
I'm very new to this custom rom thing, but not a complete noob...
I am curious if there are any custom roms that will work on stock firmware/kernel...?
I flashed Clockwork recovery and are using that at the moment
So far i have tried a lot of roms (mostly ICS ones) and the one ones working so far is one of the MIUI roms which i am using at the moment, but it laggs a fair bit.
I unlocked via HTC Dev tool and thus have a weird bootloader at the moment. Will flashing firmware remove this? will i be able to restore the original firmware from a backup i have already made?
Picture shows my current status.
Any suggestions for roms would be helpful.
Thanks
You are still s-on you need s-off to get root access. Get that one first. Then energy sense 3.5 is great stable Rom wich has stock kernal.

+1 on the S-OFF. When you have it and rooted and custom recovery, make sure you do a Nandroid backup ASAP and keep it safe.
I liked CM7, then again I like AOSP ROMs in general. I was dual running CM7 (GB) and Virtuous Inquisition (ICS) on 1.23.0000 HBOOT for a while. Now gone over to 1.27.1100.

Sorry for noob question, but i've tried many things to get S-off, (incuding revolutionary.io) but nothing seems to work. Is there any way to get rid of the HTC unlocking thing and flash something else?

Followed that, now i am S-OFF revolutionary with virtuous inquisition and new 3.24 firmware.
Thanks

I got my sensation last week. It's rooted, and clockwork is already installed on it. I had CM7 on it for about 5 minutes, but I liked the Sense UI better so I just went back to stock because I didn't have time to look for a SENSE Custom ROM.
I'm wondering if it's worth it to go off stock and go to a Custom Sense ROM? I saw Android Revolution HD, and I think the only step I'm missing is that Radio S-OFF.
Anyways, is it worth it to go to a Custom ROM or just stay stock? It's pure preference probably, but pros, cons kind of thing I'm leaning towards yes because I like that ARHD 1.5ghz oc. =)
Im using ARHD 3.6.0 and im loving it.
Better battery, snappier, plus you can flash themes and mods
I would definitely go with any custom rom over stock.
If you rooted with revulutionary you are good to go (already have radio S-OFF)
i like Sense 3.0 but CM7 have more performance
just got my sensation yesterday and played around all day in stock just to get a good feel for it before going to a custom rom which was a definite. i went for android revolution and it's definitely snappier. apps load faster, and the ones that access the web seem to do it faster too.

I didn't root using the methods of revolutionary. If I want to install Revolutionary how would I go about it? I can safely install CM7 already. I still have to do that Radio S-OFF don't I?
Is it just me or does the use of the word "snappier" as in, "it feels snappier now" make you feel that it really isn't much of a difference? When I used to want to tout the speed of some device or app I would say it was faster but I would use the word "snappy" if I couldn't really justify the use of the word "fast".
That being said, when I moved onto the Sensation I tried to go through all the hoops to get off stock but then realized it was just a waste of time considering my Sensation is perfectly fast and stable as is.

Follow this method to get S-OFF, from what I read it also RADIO-OFF's for you as well. Its what I did to flash rev. HD

That's the method I used to S-OFF. Is it the same as Revolutionary's Radio S-OFF?

There is no pure AOSP ICS at the moment the best you will do for now is virtuous senseless

Are you sure you've searched a lot? Virtuous Inquisition is a Sense-less ICS ROM.
Try this site for a neat summary of all available roms : htcsensationroms.com
I'm going to +1 for Virtuous Inquisition as well. I just switched to it after using ADHD for a long time. There's a few very minor bugs, but overall its very nice and while not AOSP, it does come close.
okay so ive tried so hard to put that virtuous rom on my phone and it will not go on ive unrooted and re rooted and ive done my supercid but it still doesnt work?? ive flashed ICS firmware aswell :L please help!

I was going to suggest Virtuous but since you already flashed it..
Is it rebooting over and over again? What is the problem?
Did you do a SuperWipe before installing the ROM?
Yeah I have to agree with the consensus here and recommend Virtuous Inquisition. I've just rooted for the first time ever and this was the first custom ROM I installed. It is really excellent.
There's a dummy proof wipe option in 4ext recovery the I think does the same thing as super wipe, I've used it between rooms several tines now with no issues. Currently on VI's 4.0.1 rom, gonna update tonite.
Hey whats up everyone? I know there are threads about this but i feel mine is specific.
So i have my sensation and tonight im gonna prepair to install ICS. Few quick questions.
1. I havnt supercid yet which isnt a problem but from my understanding if i upgrade to the 3.24 then there is no need to supercid?
2. Which ics roms have u tried that run fast/stable/ with working camera/video camera.
3. Would like an ics rom thats either stripped of sense or an AOSP build

1. You dont have to but you may have to edit the Firmware package to add your CID....all details instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
2. I am on ARHD 6.1.1 - its amazingly stable and battery is brill. Only bug effecting me is for now you cannot have apps on SD card as it cause Sense to crash. I moved mine all back to phone and have no issues. No issues at all with camera - effects also works and did not on earlier versions - but I am not a major camera user.

Hi
Gotta say I agree with everything posted in#2 - I have moved to ARHD 6.1.1 and it is smooth as butter
Everything works and it looks amazing - I had thought that Sense 3.5 was good but this latest ICS is much better.
No FC's (other than when I had apps on my SD card)
If this is what the dev's can give us with a 'test' release then the official release (once dev-d) is gonna rock!!

I think confused i am right in saying this. Without super CID you will be fine with custom roms however, if you install an un-lockable bootloader you will not, at this time, be able to downgrade again afterwards. Perhaps somebody with more knowledge would be able to clarify this.
Super CID is very simple to perform if you follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 and is easily reversable if you make a note of your original CID if you are worried about your warranty.
Do u guys suggest to just go to 3.12 or 3.24? With 3.12 u need to supercid correct?

See instructions above you dont needs supercid...but no harm by doing - supercid expands your options on ROMs, etc. Basically anything will work.
If you want lastest ICS release with Sense 3.6 you must have 3.24 - else wont work. Also 3.24 not backward compatable to GB or older ICS roms so if you want to go back to earlier Android version you will need to downgrade back to 3.12 or earlier. Not hard just the same as upgradingbut with correct firmware file.
Thanks

Ok so im supercid. Have the 3.24 on root of sd card. Have super wipe script on root of sd card. Have virtuous rom on root of sd card.
Now when i go to run the super wipe it says. Install aborted. System already mounted.
My steps so far....
All files on root of sd
Take sd card out boot into bootloader. Highlight recovery. Insert sd card. Get into clockworkmod 5.0.2.0 go to flash super wipe and install aborted. Wtf?

Hi.. Just flashed my first ROM yesterday a complete NOOB but all went well, due to the good advice given in the various thread on this forum...

Not sure if its possible to tell but search the forum for a known sensation version.

Try out Virtuous Inquisition or Virtuous Quattro if you want Senseless ROMS. They are lso for the most part AOSP. I run them both and they are really fast. I also like the 1.5 GHz kernel. Really comes down to personal preference. People really like InsertCoin and ARHD, but they are not as fast as VIQ or VI, in my experience with them. I would also highly recommend CID, why not it is easy and everything will work.
Done all the above. Check sig

hi guys, I come from an hd2....so I know cwm, android and the process of flashing...
but I have some questions...
are the 4.0.3 roms stable? have you got any suggestion for a good rom?
when I flash ICS from GB have to full wipe? I know that if I don't wipe the data/factory reset keep my personal data, but ICS is a big update...if I don't wipe my data will be lost? or the rom could not run the previous apps and read my data? maybe they are in a different folder in GB...or ICS...
doing the s-off, cwm and root my warranty expires...can I restore the phone like new without risks of bricking?....the procedure of s-on is really dangerous or is just for the disclaimer?
thx in advance. you guys are awesome

4.0.3 roms are stable, especially now that the devs are using base 3.32. 3.32 will be the official ICS update for the Sensation so you can count on it for daily use

Generally if you're coming from GB or coming from other devs roms, a superwipe is recommended to avoid headaches. You can use apps to backup SMS/Call log and Apps+data. For apps+data, I recommend using Titanium Backup.

Based from what I've read, yes, S-ONing is dangerous and a couple of people have bricked their Sensations because they haven't followed instructions properly so there is an inherent danger doing it. (I haven't done it myself)
+ 1 to all the above!
And as far as roms go, it depends what you want:
*there is an 'official' HTC ICS build out there, if you want to keep relatively similar to stock sense then that is the one for you
*Virtuous Inquisition is the best AOSP (vanilla ICS) rom I've tried, it's not quite perfect yet (only a few minor niggles like the lockscreen music widget not showing up or not displaying the correct track, minor, but still slightly annoying) but is definitely stable enough for daily use, and is damn slick!
*my own personal choice and the rom I've been using for a while now is Darkforest 5.5.0 coupled with Nova Launcher from the market, it's now sort of a hybrid of Sense and vanilla ICS. Using the Nova Launcher means I can't use the HTC widgets (that I really like) but it does have a boatload more customisation options than plain old Sense.
Hope this helps at all

Hboot= bootloader. Messing around with it can brick your device , if you don't know what you are doing. There are firmware upgrade files that include hboot+radio and are needed for some roms to boot.
Supercid is needed only if you are messing with firmware upgrades and ruus. That has to do with regions.
4ext is a recovery fully compatible with cwm. It just has a nicer ui.

OK, I recently flashed a HD2 for a friend so I know where you are coming from:
1) Do super CID, it is an easy process, with no risk , it does not break your warranty, and it will save you problems (soon you'll update to ICS and it is better to be super CID).
2) I did S-on myself after being S-Off to return my phone for the dust in screen issue. The process is fairly straightforward and if you follow instructions correctly there is no risk. The risk of bricking exists if you do things without FULLY reading all instructions.
3) No need to mess around with system partitions etc. Sensation is a phone that has plenty of space for current ROM's and apps so the flashing process is much simpler than with HD2. Just use your favorite recovery, wipe, and flash... as simple as that (of course, I am talking about GB, to upgrade to ICS the process is different).
4) I suggest you use 4ext, as you say, some dev use it because it gives you the option to make selections during the flashing process.
ok thank you all....
there are so many roms, but....I can't find what i'm searching...
I want try 3 type roms:
-an ics galaxy nexus
-a sense 3.5 without any....UI customizations, bootscreen ecc, I have flashed 5 minutes ago a 3.5 with transparency, custom icons and other features I don't like....so, I want a stock like rom
-an ics 3.6 sense stock like....

Just to clear it up, Virtuous Inquistion is not a true AOSP ROM. It's just a sense-based ROM themed/modified to match ICS

True, but it does a pretty good job of it, the only things of Sense they have left in are things that either didn't work from AOSP, or things that were better than the AOSP counterparts. Off the top of my head I think all I noticed was the camera, there may have been more underneath the operating system I wouldn't have noticed without looking, but it's still as close as you'll get to vanilla ICS on a Sensation at the moment
My dad asked me to root his HTC Sensation after seeing my HTC Sensation and all its rooted glory... Well his phone had a different HBOOT. Mine was 1.27.0000 and his was 1.28.something maybe 0000? Well anyways so my HTC Sensation was left S-ON and I just Enabled SmartFlash using 4Ext and mine booted fine. His however I did S-OFF and both our bootloaders are unlocked and both are rooted.
I tried installing a custom ROM (same on mine) and now his Sensation is in a bootloop... The custom ROM in question is Elegancia - Sense 4.1 v3.1.0
I feel like it might be because he was running Gingerbread (I believe) and I was running ICS. However he loved the custom ROM I was using so is there any way?

Since the previous ROM was Gingerbread, the firmware would have been the older one. Just update the firmware to the latest 3.33 and the bootloops should be gone (if not try reflashing ROM after firmware update). There is a guide as well for updating the firmware.
Check the thread of the custom ROM you tried to install, it should state which firmware needs to be installed for this ROM.

Hi,
If you want help, then, it is important that you post CORRECT information.
Otherwise you could be given wrong information which could lead to brick.
If he was running GB,then, his hboot would have been 1.18
If this is correct, then, post the COMPLETE hboot page,so that you can receive the correct guidance...
EDIT:
I notice you also have questions in the Help Thread.
Please keep your questions in ONE place.
