Widgets in Notification Area - Android General

Hey guys, as the title says, does anyone know if there is a solution, or know anyone who can make a solution, to enable widgets in the slide down notification area? I mean to place proper widgets you'd have on your homescreen onto the notification area.

That's a big challenge there man.
I don't think the current GB framework can support that kinda thing. But a lot of the newer custom ROMS I see have app shortcuts on the second row of the notification bar. That's pretty cool.

Yeah, but you know the way certain music apps have their notifications there, and some of those allow controlling the music. I think that if we can somehow exploit that feature, we'd get widgets in the notifications bar.

Yea that's true. Would be cool.

closest to what you're talking about, that I can think of is elixir. It can display a customizable widget-like panel in the notification pane. it can be set to show system info etc. the only thing is its not directly interactable eg. when you click on it, a popup comes up which you then can interact with.
Hope this helps.

There are a lot of ROMs with widgets in the notification pull down. Any CyanogenMod based ROM generally has them. The default MIUI ROM has a full page of them. Maybe I misunderstood the question.

Yes you have misunderstood. As I described in the OP, I'm talking about fully functional widgets you have on your homescreen. The things your describing are toggles, they toggle functions, my Official OS version from Samsung has those toggles.

If it helps, check out 'widgetpad', which is an add-on to swipepad. What it does is to create collapsable widgets as shortcuts anywhere. When used with swipepad, it can be invoked from any screen, any app.
(Now, this doesn't answer the query, but there is this way to access widgets from anywhere)

Is it possible...(sense theming)

to change the bar on the bottome of sense ROMs? It seems like such a waste of space to have a HUGE phone button and a "add to home" button that isn't needed. I know I could install launcherpro or ADW...but I like the sense widgets just not the bottom bar.
I have no idea if it is possible, but if it is the Devs here at XDA can do it

actually I just saw the tread about 2 posts down that is titled "Sense Themes" and they have 5 buttons on the bottom. I don't really like the look of it, but hopefully it will progress.

The screenshot with 5 icons was actually LauncherPro and not sense. You can actually change the launcher to look however you want as long as the png file is the same size as the default launcher. The limitation however is that you cant change how the 3 buttons work on the launcher (app drawer, phone and +).
thats a bummer, I like launcher pro but have a few issues with it:
1. I have an icon on my screen that tells me when I have new SMS and the LauncherPro has an icon in the bar, but it doesn't say if there is a new msg. Kind of redundant to have both.
2. I like the sense widgets, LP widgets are ok but I prefer the Sense twitter/facebook widget, the calendar and the favorites.
Actually, yes! I will be releasing sense bar mods this week. The first one will be a simple app drawer button in the middle. Afterwards, I will be releasing mods that allow third party apps to launch from sense buttons. Here is a simple preview of what I have so far. More to come.

[Q] Any way to add shortcuts to the status bar?

There is a lot of empty space between the task switcher icon on the left and the clock on the right. Would be a perfect location for shortcuts to running apps etc.
That's a pretty good idea but as far as I know there is no way to do it unless some clever person has worked it out.

samsung has something like that on their SGT 10.1-roms... Maybe its possible to port that?
I don't find it THAT useful though...
there is a .app, something like quicklaunch, I use it with HC but can't remember the name... u should search in the market... but it's only quicklaunch, can't put shortcuts in bar

There was an application called Wizz Bar, you might be able to find it somewhere online. It allows you to press in the open space in the middle and it would open a little box over any application which you could launch from. That might work?
Here it is: Wizz Bar
I will look into Quick Launch, thanks.
It looks like Wizz Bar no longer works on ICS

[Q] Most widgets not available for lock screen (KitKat 4.4)?

I hope I'm just doing something stupid ...
I can't add most widgets I've downloaded to my lock screen on my Nexus 5 ... though they all work fine adding to my home screen. Only a few (like Android Weather) are available when hit the "plus" on a blank lockscreen.
All I want is a brightness widget that can make the display bright so I can properly put in my password in bright sunlight (I never set my brightness to auto, it's too annoying for me).
ie. Power Widget lite would be perfect for my needs!
Any one having the same problem? Any ideas?
I have the same problem. Wanted to add some beautiful clock widget to homescreen (don't remember exactly which one), downloaded, installed, went to add to homescreen - no luck.
Why can't you get something like power toggles. Then you could pull down notification bar on lockscreen and toggle brightness to what you wanted. An extra step I know

Very cool app, thanks for pointing it out. But ... I can't pull down the notification bar when the phone is locked ... how are you able to?
you add widgets on your lockscreen by enabling them in security. there's a checkbox that says "enable widgets"

Yep, did that. The thing is only SOME can be added. Very few that I've downloaded (even though they all seem to work on home screens).

Wow AWESOME app! That's exactly what I need! I was looking for a bunch of widgets on one row, which the lockscreen doesn't even seem to allow, but this widget already let me configure everything I needed in one row of buttons.
It turns out that THIS widget CAN be placed on the lockscreen (I'm not talking about the one visible in the notification bar, I can only access that when the phone's already unlocked).
BUT ... I still want to know why most widgets can't get placed on the lockscreen to begin with. Are they not Android 4.4-lockscreen-compatible yet?

The widgets have to be enabled to work on the lock screen by the developer.

Aha! Didn't expect that widgets needed special lock screen support.
So there's home screen widgets, lock screen widgets, notification bar widgets, ... I wonder what other classes of apps I'm missing - widget widgets? It would be nice if Google Play Store could search based on widget class.

How to edit lock screen

Im wanting to edit my lockscreen kind of like we already edit our homescreen. In particular im looking to get my agenda and a snapshot of the weather on the lockscreen. Is this possible? If so how, oh and im not looking to use a launcher as i like the layout and feel of touch wiz. Thanks
You can't without root. Some manufacturers (e.g. HTC) will have weather info etc. on their lock screens natively, but Samsung doesn't unfortunately.
Well thats stupid! Okay option two/three. Any good lockscreen apps that replace existing lockscreen that dont lag? Or any launchers that sill allow me to keep my own theme and app style and layout but allow me to customize the lockscreen?

I don't know of any lock screen apps off the top of my head because I never use any, but I know they're on the Play Store, so just do a search and see which one would probably fit your needs. Also, the launcher and lock screen are two different things, so installing a custom launcher just affects the home screen and app drawer.

I always used AcDisplay on my past android phones. I haven't set it up on my S7, so I don't honestly recall all the features, but I always liked it so that's a good place to start.
May just be for notifications but I really can't remember.
Try hi locker it uses the fingerprint scanner has good media and notifications has calendar and weather as well

[Open Source][7.0+] Shade Launcher Q - The best of both worlds

Shade has been updated to Android Q!

New Screenshots
-
Having grown tired of only decompiling and porting Google’s Pixel Launcher code, I decided to turn my own vision for a launcher into reality.
It's based on the latest AOSP Launcher3 Pie version.
What can it do?
Mostly everything Rootless Pixel Launcher could do, but there are some additional features.
Themes: Make your launcher look like eye candy using one of the precreated themes.
Categories: Order your apps in the app drawer or hide them in the Hidden category.
Smart Unread: Show what’s most important at the top of your home screen.
Quickstep: The Magisk module QuickSwitch that lets other apps handle recents is supported.
Plugins: Have third party add-ons implement additional functionality in the launcher.
Here’s the full release thread on Reddit: Shade Launcher
You are free to use the code in any way you like, as long as you keep me in your credits.

Awaiting a compatible version with Android Q beta, currently I can't test it cause the launcher keeps crashing

Really slick launcher my dude, nice break away from the bottom search bar, and to have a proper swipe down to expand notification shade that Android One Launcher simply does not have. The only thing I could possibly ask for is maybe a few more icon shapes (rounded square being the priority). Other than an early bird with a few bugs which involve crashing after using the widgets picker, it's a good enough barebones option.

I've had others report it to me before but I cannot reproduce it and the crash trace only shows some weird native code going wrong. Furthermore, it also seems to happen with AOSP Launcher3. At the moment, I still have no idea what's happening...
very smooth launcher i like it, can i make a suggestion that allows users to configure which apps can use the smart notifications. I love the idea but i would like not to have messages from whats app displayed through that widget

It's set to use the same notifications as the ones that show notification dots. Disable the notification dot for WhatsApp if you want to hide it in Smart Unread.
Thank you for adding the dock override for search bar widget, I can properly replicate the Android One layout as I personally intended.
As an unpopular, tangential opinion, docking icons in Launcher3 never played as nicely as it should have given some aspect ratios on larger displays. So I don't mind having a search bar in lieu of icons.
Hello! Any chance this could see a release on F-Droid? I'm going to give it a try soon!
EDIT: I'd surely love being able to change and edit categories, as well as better controlling the dock. Looks great otherwise!
Is there an option to hide apps?
Nice launcher!
I'm using Smartlauncher at the moment and miss the following features in shade:
- gestures (swipe up/down/left/right to start apps)
- add/delete categories
- categories at side instead on top
Would be great to see this in the future.

Swipe down is used for notifications, up to go to all apps, right to open the feed and left to go to the next page. Would you want to disable all of these just to quickly start apps?

I would want to bring this at some point but it does require designing an interface for it, which is also the reason why giving per-app icon selection is taking so long. I want it to fit in with the AOSP aesthetic.

Same problem, not sure how this would fit in with the AOSP UI, right now they are taking the place of app suggestions.

Is there any launcher that doesn't let you find apps again after hiding them? If anything, Shade's way to unhide makes it so you need to know which app was hidden to unhide it, while other launchers have a global "unhide" option where you can see all the apps you've hidden.
Maybe I'll find the time to test this launcher tomorrow, but I'd already like to know if there's an option to not show any categories in the app drawer?
edit: Ok, seems like I'll stick to your Rootless Launcher, because I can't remove categories. This version has to too many 'unnecessary' features, but that's only my personal taste.
New update based on Android Q: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/f5zz38/shade_launcher_q_the_best_of_both_worlds/
Nokia 6.1 (2018), Android 10, 00WW_4_10C_SP01 Build
Love the further integration into the stock Quickstep aesthetic, as well as the adaptive search bar in app drawer, something the Android One launcher forgot to get on Android Q/10. This has basically succeeded the rootless pixel launcher in every way now, plus some variation while maintaining smooth performance without overwhelm. My only request is having the accent color with dark mode match the stock cornflower blue-like accent, or just make that an option while keeping the current accent.

EDIT: the animated clock icon does not change shape, refer to build outlined in the header of this post.

Yeah the system accent extracted, assuming that won't cause any overt optimization issues? If not applicable, perhaps just add the Black/Gray, Space, Cinnamon, etc. from the developer options settings as manually selected options.
I fidgeted with icon shape, it sometimes fixes the problem when I restart the launcher, sometimes it doesn't and the shape is stuck.
