[Q] /EFS Folder - T-Mobile LG G2x

I just came from the SGS4G and had no problem finding this...but i was wondering if anyone could tell me where to find the /EFS folder on the g2x so that i can back it up. ive had bad experiences not backing up this folder (ex. imei being wiped and phone not finding service, had to send it back to be replaced)

EFS Folder is only for Samsung devices, I believe.

ok thanks for reply, but if this is so where is the folder containing important imei data?

The IMEI is hardcoded into the chip, or so I was informed.

Imei, sim lock state etc is stored on a hidden partition. Not accessable even with nvflash.

[I9003] Request for EFS backup and Restore

I updated to XXBK3 as per the steps mentioned and everything went fine. When the phone booted, the simcard is not getting detected. I have factory reset the phone, changed the sim, tried my sim on another phone (works on another) but not this one.
Revert back to DDKB2 but still sim card is not getting detected. Kindly assist
Update: I have lost all folders in efs folder after flashing XXBK3. Unfortunately i dont have backup of efs folder
The only option left with me now if service center. Since there is no post for efs backup and restoer, i would request if someone can post settings/commands to backup and restore efs.
Hey, maybe you'll laugh, but there do not give any simcard wrong side. Once I flash phone at night and I'm still there giving the wrong side

I didnt understand you.
What i mean is i dont get network and when i try to open Mobile APN, i get message " Please insert SIM..."
This can happen if you have selected the option Phone EFS Clear in ODIN while flashing FW. This would delete the efs folder.
Follow my guide that I sent you for future. I have already backed up mine, but hope I wont need it.
What is the /efs folder? Should I also back it up? Only that folder or all folders under root are to be backed up?

Efs folder contains information about your Phones IMEI no. If you clear it or corrupt it you lose your IMEI and it can only be restored by Service centre if you have not backed it up. Just copying the folder is not enough. You need to back it up in the form that it can be directly flashed to your phone to restore the IMEI and to put your phone back in usable condition, as in india service providers do not support phones without IMEI nos.
Dude can u give us a walkthru of how to back up efs

Is the link given by manu1991 okay in your opinion? According to Post#2, "An alternative to the backup part is to use Root Explorer and zip the whole /efs folder onto your external sd card. (or wherever you want)". Is this possible and reliable? I tried the option to zip folder in "Super Manager" but got an empty file.
No root explorer should not be used to back up this folder. Follow the link and back up your efs folder.

Ok, I tried this and made the tar.gz file directly in my external sd card. I got a file of size 35Kb? Checked with 7-zip, seems to contain all files. Also made the .gz file using terminal emulator and got same size. In Super Manager the /efs folder seems to be 5Mb in size. I also extracted the .gz file and the uncompressed size is indeed about 5Mb. Can it really be compressed to 35Kb or is there some mistake?

yes, it can. If the files has a lot of zeroes inside. BTW here is only 3 files are very big:
nv_data.bin, .nv_data.bak and .nv_core.bak and as I can see they are have a lot of zeroes.

Yes it is compressed. Just pull out the efs folder out of the archive and see check the size, its 5.03MB for me.
Thanks falex and trip
I also made image of stl3 and it is about 6mb.

EFS / IMEI changes to Fake frequently.
With regards to your post on EFS restore, thanks for the excellent instructions I managed to get IMEI back but noticed that it gets changed quiet frequently when I am on any version of Gingerbread so I downgraded my self to Froyo and I notice that the IMEI doesnt change, Could you kindly advise me so to get it working when I am on gingerbread. Does it have anything to do with bootloaders. The restore method I used is to flash via Odin and no other commands there on.
ThanK You In advance.
i have the same troubles
i try many methods
last i failed
now i just play t959 as a pda
I believe the Nitrality app has an EFS backup feature
Good morning from Argentina!
I have a problem to restore my /EFS I have Froyo LUBKB1 (Argentina) coming from KPQ and the /efs is broken.
I have a backup from a functional EFS directory but when I try to copy it with Root Explorer, it seems that it copies it but when I reboot, EFS directory is empty.
Is there any possibility to create the .img with ADB from a directory which is in the sdcard?

No carrier/eff deleted

I still have my busted up infuse that keeps getting a no carrier message. It's not the sim card as I have tried this sim in my other phones and it works fine. The imei is also missing so I'm pretty sure I deleted the efs some of how... How do I fix this?
Do you have a backup of the EFS?
Last person that went through this had to return the phone to Samsung.

if you remount the EFS RW and simply delete all the files in there it will work fine. You must have a valid EFS partition for anything to work. Deleting the data on the EFS reverts your device to a default IMEI and I think it's carrier unlocked as well.

wow thanks for the insight but im not exactly too sure how i remount the EFS RW. I have root manager and i reflashed the rom back to stock rogers with the partition and everything back to original. Should i just re-root it and then delete the EFS ? where is the EFS folder anyways?
bump itttttttttttttt

IMEI=0 ..what are my options?

looks like i had some bad luck today. my IMEI reads 0. from what i'm reading if i can restore a nandroid from before this happened it is possible to fix this. as luck would have it just before i realized there was a problem i deleted a whole bunch of nandroids i had because when i made the backups i hadn't cleared the cache and their size was massive. i never even heard of this IMEI problem before so i never made a backup of my efs folder. so i have some questions about what to do next.
1) i have an incomplete nandroid on my external sd card that wasnt able to complete the backup process before running out of room. i know for a fact that the system was backed up. the backup failed only after it tried backing up the data folder. is there any way of only restoring the system part of the backup? i tried an advanced restore to only restore /system and it said md5 checksum failed.
2) is there a way of undeleting the nandroids i deleted? they're on my internal sd card. so far the undelete programs ive found for both windows and android only restore from the external sd card
3) is there any other ways of restoring an IMEI?
help is much appreciated.

WOW. that looks easy. maybe too easy. is there a catch? i had read somewhere that using this method forces the phone to constantly roam but i could be wrong.

It may or may not be "roaming" but as far as ive read the roaming part is cosmetic and isn't really happening. But because you didn't backup thats your only known method to get it restored
so i have good news and bad news.
good news: got the IMEI back
bad news: the mobile network state is disconnected, service state is out of service and mobile network type is unknown
in other words, that didn't fix my problem like i had hoped it would have. i can get 4g service. but nothing else.

Same thing happened to my dad.
Did you reprovision your device after restoring?
You may be able to extract the nv info from your partial backup. How to do this is beyond my pay grade.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
honestly now that the imei is fixed you may need to perform a reprovision. to do this, go to a touchwiz rom (any should work) and dial this in the phone:
*2767*3855#
it should fix your data services now that imei is intact but beware it will also perform a factory reset (like the ones performed in clockwork mod before flashing roms) as in it will dlete your apps but it is worth it. it will wipe then reboot (dont worry it will take a while so dont panic if bootanim takes a while) when it is done your data services should be back let me know if it works

I had to do this to get my data services back after injecting my IMEI. Total pain but it was worth it to get service restored. Only problem now is that it shows the phone as roaming but that's no big deal since it's only cosmetic.

so to confirm, it does wipe the internal sd card right? im at work and i would love to reprovision this right now but if it wipes all content on the internal sd card i want to wait until i get home so i can back it all up first. im not worried about a simple hard factory wipe since i have everything backed up with titanium pro.

I have everything on my external SD card so I don't know what reprovisioning does to the internal sd card. I wouldn't try it until you backup.

looks like i was right. it does wipe the internal sd clean. i thought i had read this earlier and i finally found the post i had read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30357448&postcount=2
well i reprovisioned it and... it worked! it has that annoying roaming notification going on but i could care less at this point.
i'm not saying that backing up my internal sd card was a waste of time... but it was a waste of time. as far as i can tell it didn't touch any files on the internal sd. i downloaded titanium backup from the play store and it restored all my apps just like before.
thanks for your help guys! :victory:

Recuva

Has anyone used Recuva to successfully recover deleted files from their sdcard? I tried using it to recover a backup that I deleted yesterday and it hasn't found anything from that folder, even with a deep scan.

I have used it successfully. Recovered about 200MB of deleted photos, but it won't work if a new file has been overwritten in that block.
Files aren't really "deleted" until something gets written on top of them, like another picture in the same place on the sd card
As with other file recovery programs Recuva works by looking for unreferenced data, but if the operating system has written new data over a deleted file then recovery will often not be possible.

Whatever got stored in that block deleted it, whether it be another recovery, or a text file
my phone got wiped last month after an unlock, factory reset or something and nothing recovered the data. i tried partition recovery, getdataback, easyrecovery, none of them found data. might have better luck getting stuff back that was just deleted.

Lost IMEI number

I was on CM11 and One day i lost the IMEI number of my phone and lost all network. I think i flashed an update, dont remember clearly. I think the EFS folder was corrupted. I gave the phone to samsung service center and they were not able to fix it. Can any one help me? I dont have any backup.
ANyone? I tried flashing the stock value pack, didnt work
Cm11 suppose to do a efs backup in SD card. Look for it, if found replace efs folder with it and reboot. May work. Good luck.
