I'm new to the Android OS and I had just transferred from using an iPhone for about a year or two. I was very happy with my Samsung Galaxy S 4G when I got it but after using it for about a week I noticed a significant amount of lag. I probably downloaded only about 4-5 apps within a week and the problems included:
- lag when I press the home button and loading the home screens
- apps taking long to load/ won't load/ totally crashing and I have to manually restart the phone
- late response whenever I press the 'back' button during texts
- fail to send texts at times (the length of the text didn't really matter. some were long and some were short. I haven't tried to send a picture SMS yet.)
Since I'm new and I really wanted to give the Android OS a try, I want to learn about rooting and most importantly a way to fix the lag on my new phone.
Phone Information:
- Model Number: SGH-T959V
- Firmware: 2.3.6
- Baseband: T959VUVKJ6
- Kernel: 2.6.35.7-T959VUVKJ6-CL694130
- Build: GINGERBREAD.VUVKJ6
I would really appreciate it if someone would direct me to a clear, specific way to root and fix the lag on my phone (mainly to fix the lag issue but I'm sure I would have to have it rooted first). I've tried looking on this forum and RootWiki but there is just so many different things that I'm reading (i.e. flash, ext4, CMW) and I don't want to mess up my new phone. Also please excuse me if this is a re-post of any sort.
This will get you there. Click here. Since you are already on GB start where it says "I am on Stock GB (Firmware version: 2.3.6) now what:"
Once you go through it... and have CWM and a custom ROM (which will take care a lot of the lag) you can go a step further and flash one of the tweaks in the DEV section through CWM.

Using my Debloater will probably give you the most significant speed boost short of putting a custom rom on your phone. There's a link to it on my forum signature

Hi all, long time lurker here.
At the title says, I own a Korean original Motoroi, here in Korea on SKT. The current ROM I'm running is STSKT_N_79.33.50R .
Like some others on this board have noted in the past, this phone, with it's slower CPU, is an under-powered P.o.S. When I first got this last year it had a 2.1(.1?) ROM on it and in December last year Motorola graciously decided to release 2.2 for it. Anyway, I'm sure most of you already know that.
Upgrading this thing to 2.2 was like my friend's iPhone 3G when he upgraded it to iOS4: it was a slow, buggy mess, randomly locking up, rebooting and "losing" images on the SD card after talking some photos ("Can not write to SDcard" errors.) - among other things. To make matters worse, there seemed to be a huge bug in the Korean/English soft-keyboard that meant the input application would often crash during text entry.
Then, a few days after Motorola Korea released the 2.2 upgrade with all the above problems, they then seemed to pull it and reverted back to the old 2.1 version on their website. A few weeks later, they released 2.2 again, perhaps with those bugs fixed.... but with the same version number, thus preventing the updater program from updating MY phone to whatever version they have on the site now. Grrrr!
Anyway, enough of that long story, here are my questions:
1. What can I do with this phone now? I see a lot of custom ROMs here for the XT720 Milestone, but I know that it's a slightly different phone to the Motoroi... also, I've been led to understand that the Motoroi has a locked bootloader... right?
2. If I can re-flash roms on this... what custom rom would be suitable? There's so many versions here on this board that it's a little confusing. Also, what would be the procedure(s) to install it?
3. If there's no suitable custom rom here for this... can/how I re-flash this thing back to the stock, original 2.1 SKT rom? At least that was slightly faster and more stable than the 2.2 rom...
Well, one thing I can't complain about this was the price: I paid only 20,000원 for this on a 1 year contract spending only about 15,000원 a mouth. SKT were practically giving them away: I can see why, now.
TIA.
hello newbie here.......
i have the same problem before when i upgraded my motoroi to 2.2.1 , but i just found out that you can still root, overclock and use custom kernel...
- use superoneclick to root
- to overclock i use milestone overclock 1.4.2 version and setCPU
- if you want to use custom kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990735 and use raser_motoroi_boot.7z
- i also using this to replace bootanimation and fonts http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888379
- my motoroi xt720 is now overclock to 1100g with 74vsel so far so good.....
- you can also use MOTOMIZER [optional]
hope this will help you dude....by the way i im also here in korea ang using KTF SHOW usim on my phone
here you guys go this guy made ROMS for motoroi, im not sure how well these work as i have not tried them. he has posted a bunch of them. the are for motoroi so you must start with motoroi firmware. and i cannot read his homepape as its in korean. so check em out. http://code.google.com/p/xt720/downloads/list
i will try this and according to dev. "No Rooting ROM created by the state, and wrote more attention to the theme, need to maintain a more stable and allows fast was created." but your phone must have 44R nonSKAF original rom, in think that is 2.1 update!
In KyuHyuk ROM for XT720 1.5.1 by removing some of the files have been lighter.
[KyuHyuk ROM for XT720 1.5.1 his LATEST ROM]

frozenroi works great on my motoroi better than KyuHyuk ROM but the problem is there is no sound on video recording even I try to call my mobile using my landline phone I cannot hear my voice only annoying noise.
Is there a way to fix this problem?

Thanks for the infos... how can I install these roms? I'm a bit of a newbie at this..
Also, I'm running the stock SK 2.2 rom, do I have to downgrade to 2.1 to install these?
My phone is already rooted using Superoneclick.

Hey all...this is my first Android phone (coming from a long line of BB's) so please bear with me.
I managed to root my phone a few weeks ago using the instructions found on this site and it worked great! I wanted to update to Gingerbread 2.3.3 and found the "easiest" way to do so here:
http://androidadvices.com/how-to-up...-to-gingerbread-2-3-3-firmware/#comment-10119
Downloaded odin, flashed the ROM and everything seemed to work fine. I wont bore you guys with reading everything on that page, but it seems that that particular version was a bit buggy....especially with the missing dialed calls in the call log.
Now, I read another post as per the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146145
Is this the same version as I already downloaded? I just want to avoid the same issue with the call log.
Basically, all I want to do is to update my phone to the latest version of Gingerbread, the EASIEST way possible, and to get the most STABLE and best performing version. If I could avoid all the bloatware, then thats a plus!
I dont really care about rooting, or any other fancy features. I just want a good performing, quick and stable phone.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
download dsexton's modified build.prop and it will be more responsive, smoother and faster
Problem is that none of the gb roms out right now are official releases. They are leaks so they are supposed to be buggy. The devs here are working hard to get a full gb rom with recovery support asap.

So I bought this new phone from (what I think) is a new company, O+ (O plus, whatever).
I've tried lots of possible methods to root their Oplus 8.7 Android phone but alas, that's not happening.
I'm a bit inexperienced when it comes to ROM and builds, etc, but if it would be any help, here are the details that I can find when I checked Settings > About Phone.
System updates: Oplus_A100ALPS.GB2.MP.V2
Model number: O+_8.7_Android
Android Version: 2.3.6
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build number: Oplus_A100ALPS.GB2.MP.V2
I really hope someone can help me here. Thank you.
I also have this phone. Tried using different Rooting software to no avail. The farthest I have gone to "semi-rooting" it is to change the default installation of apps and games to directly go to the SD. This phone has really bad internal memory size. Anyway, let me know if you discover a way to root this. Cheers

yep, have the same phone with same problems as with you guys.. though i found a different way to boot up the phone towards its "factory s
et-up" : turn off your phone, then after a while, simultaneously press volume down key and power button, it should bring you to the set-up i mentioned..im quite hesitant to tweak at the settings for it might break my phone, though i never found the "download" setting which ive seen in other phones has that setup which you could upload certain files in relation to rooting the phone.. Again i turned off the phone, this time i pressed volume key up and power button, and the Triangle sign with the exclamation point inside it (most known as the warning sign) with the android mascot beside the warning sign appearing on the screen, may be this leads to that "rooting" enigma we have.. hope this helps, im not a hacker but hope this leads to something.. keep me posted you guys.. thanks

I am not into experimentation with custom roms; I want ICS rooted so to remove unneeded and unwanted apps. I would also like an assessment of apps safe to remove, and again not experimental, but safe to remove without destabilizing ICS, or removal of necessary functions. I also want to tweak some settings for safe improvements in performance.
This is what I did for Gingerbread, rooted it per instructions xda, and removed unwanted apps safe to remove. I unrooted it flashed stock rom when I decided to upgrade to ICS. These successful; now have ICS, plus the security update, and want to root it, remove some apps, do some tweaks, and reinstall some apps only run on rooted.
Did I give you relevant information about what I want and my intentions? I apologize for such if I didn't. I am in Android (though I find some similarities to other Linux)
the equivalent of Newbie.
I am 70, brain still works, I believe, and want to learn to keep it working. Understand, the obvious steps in any procedure may be necessary to include for me. I am ignorant about Android more than a bit.
Respect your elders everybody lol

The rom has to be that Baseband. My phone is a work phone. I'm a grandpa and a writer, so no wild, though elegant and beautiful creations. I just want either root method for ICS 4.0.4 T769UVMB1 rom of that.
May have to learn how to do it myself. Any books or classes you recommend? I'm in Huntsville, AL.
Thank you for your interest in helping.
I was considering getting the Google Nexus 4, except no sd slot, and battery changed with great difficulty. I watched a battery changed; it's glued down inside. Watch is done once, you dont want to do it. Now with my Blaze I carry a solar power charger and two extra charged oem batteries. I could carry two solar power chargers instead of spare batteries, same backup. The sd slot I can do without. I stream music from my home computer anyway. The Nexus solves the app problem; the apps I dont want are put on by the carrier and handset maker. Haven't found any Google system apps I dont like. I dont need to root it. The apps for unrooted I install are few now, and most from Google. I was considering the Galaxy Note III, but it aint out yet.
Thinking out visible. Excuse, apologize.

It doesn't matter what baseband you have, the root method linked to in the first reply will work just fine.
Also it doesn't matter what rom you flash either, your base band will keep. The phone will work fine on any baseband anyways, or it can be flashed to the latest one that you have from the custom recovery if it gets changed somehow.
I wanted to post on the original P.A.C rom thread; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203444 ; so I registered myself after months of browsing these forums to be greeted with a noob filter that doesn't actually let me post anything where it needs to be... I find it somewhat effective in the long run, but repressive. ridiculous. if someone can redirect it that would be great.
I have the same RAM problem as some other people do with this rom, since the first moment I installed it with the stock kernel. i'm now running dorimanx 9.13, same problem, I have only about 150mb of free RAM. another issue I have is I can't find a way to activate vibration on the hardware touch keys, and I need that feedback. other than that the rom is just great! really good work.
