Hey. I want to install the Custom Rom (Android Revolution HD)
I have tried following the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 but have some issues with the Clockwork Recovery Install.
After i have copy the img to the sdcard i reboot to bootloader/hboot but i dont get the "Do you want to start the update" question.
I have done everything from step one from the guide and i have also tried lower versions of the Clockwork Recovery but still wont work.
Hope someone can help me. Thx
i suffest you to use 4EXT...it is better and it is beautiful and stable...
I have purchased 4EXT. It asks me to install busybox before using the app and that i need too be rooted too use app. I have also downloaded busybox but 4EXT asks the same thing.
Im sitting here sweating my ass off because i dont understand why its not working. I have read the guides and i understand then. I have followed them as i should but its not working. Frustrating
When i use 4EXT i get a message saying "Sorry, your sdcard must be mounted to be able to use this application!" FTW? it is mounted :\
You need Su signed zip to properly root your device. You then need busybox installed.

And you also need a recovery, you have to flash a recovery image.

Thx guys for trying too help. But i finally fixed it. The only problem was that i forgot to have the img file zipped. Silly me :\ Feel really stupid now.
Now im a proud owner of Android Revolution HD
Thx again for trying too help i really appriciate it Peace.

Right 1st off I have been looking into this for a few weeks now and have searched but I just want to be sure before I do actually do anything and potentially damage my phone. Also I did used to flash custom rims on my desire so I'm not completely new to this but am by no means a pro at it.
I have s-off using revolutionary but that's as far as I've gone and I didn't install custom recovery due to wanting to install the official ics update which is what I'm running now.
1st question is are there any preferred recoveries? I know on my desire there were a few to choose from which could affect being able to install certain Roms and also are there any issues using recovery now that I've update to ics?
2nd how would I go about flashing it? I read about downloading it to root of sd and flashing from stock recovery.
3rd I've seen that I apparently don't need root as a custom Rom comes pre rooted?
4th will the whole flashin a Rom proceedure be the same as what I'm used to e.g. boot into recovery backup current rom, wipe when needs then flash Rom and reboot. Also I've read about a super wipe what is this?
I think ill he ok with all this but I love this phone and don't want to cause any damage to it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou

1. CWM or 4ext. Many prefer 4ext for the touch interface and additional options. You can download an updater for this from market, it will install it for you.
2. CWM Recovery can be flashed via the boot loader, it's exactly like updating the boot loader on your desire. You will also use this method to update your firmware - this is different to desire, it updates various parts including radio.
3&4 yes the same!

I would suggest 4EXT touch for recovery over ClockworkMod. There has been numerous reported cases in XDA threads with ROM installation issues using CWM. I myself have had issues with CWM and only recently changed to 4EXT recovery.
As for superwipe, have a look at this link.

You cannot root if you don't install a custom recovery first.
You can download 4EXT recovery in PG58IMG from Here
Rename it only PG58IMG and put on the root of your sd card.
Reboot to bootloader (volume down + power button), at prompt if you want to update, say yes by pushing volume up.
let do its things and when finished push power button to reboot.
Delete PG58IMG from sd card when done (or each time you reboot bootloader it will ask to update).
Once installed, flash this zip from 4EXT recovery.
Then download from the market superuser and busybox to get root.
Hope it helps. Hit thanks if it did
thanks again for your help. just follwed as you said but when i go into bootloader it checks for file then say model id incorrect press power to reboot?

What is your model id?
you can dowload terminal emulator from market and give this command "getprop ro.mid" (without quotes). This will give your model id. Inside the PG58IMG that you downloaded ther is android-info file and there you can change the mid accordingly.
think i might of sorted it. model i.d. walk pg5813001.
just wainting on it rebooting now, delete the file then boot recovery check its worked. make a backup and flash the su file. hopefully.
yup all sorted ext4 on there now (what a great recovery)
sounds really stupid but how do you thank users on here? sorted it i wasnt signed in
Hi all, I have an s-on unlocked htc sensation. Last night I went to bed and woke up to a phone that was dead (forgot to plug in) so I charged it a little bit and then turned it on..only to find that it just stays at the white HTC screen. I then went into recovery and tried to reinstall a clockwork mod recovery(which has worked plenty of times) but this time it said "the folder does not contain any zip files, so I thought, Oh well time to do a fresh install anyway, so I went into the 4ext recovery/wiped everything, then turned on the smart ext..ran super wipe, then installed the elegancia 4.0 2.7, everything went fine...until it finished, EXT4 recovery then says something like creating backup..blah blah blah..then says backup failedthere was an error processing the command (not the exact terminology)..so then i let it restart and again it is stuck at the white htc screen. I then reboot into recovery again, and it says smart 4ext has been disabled, go to tools etc to re-enable..report your error blah blah blah..I just dont get it, i have done this many times, but I am clueless on why it wont boot..i have the latest files etc too 1.27.00 bootloader as well, I am unable to do anything with adb right now..I am at work, but really need a phone today..can someone help possibly?..Thanks a million....Larry
There are lot of blahs in the post

Not possible as you would be using the kernel when you are booting the phone (just like how formatting c drive (where windows is normally installed) is not possible when using windows)

eah...makes sense...ok cool...thanks for your help..ill get it done this afternoon....
It'll be easier to help if you can provide exact errors you are getting and exactly what you did. Try installing an AOSP ROM and let us know the error you are getting. I've never used smart EXT so maybe let it be disabled and try.

Hi There
I am just over begginner level, so I hope someone can help me!
I have a HTC Sensation
- It is rooted
- Bootloadeer is unlocked
- CWM recovery is flashed and working
I installed the ELEGANCIA custom rom to the phone and all was fine, apart from the WIFI was not working. In a stupid moment of madness, I flashed the stock kernel to the phone through the One X software.
So now, when I load the phone, I just get the white HTC screen and can go no further.
As previously stated, I can get into clockworkmod and fastboot etc.
I have the correct kernel package on my PC, but have no idea how to flash it with the phone in this state, or if indeed this will even work. I just want to get back to a working phone now
I do have access to another phone, so I can put zip files etc onto my SD card if that helps.
Is there a rom with the correct firmware/kernels built into it, so I can literally just install the rom through clockworkmod in recovery to overwrite the old kernels automatically.
Or can anyone give me advice on what to do now. Much appreciated in advance.
Thanks
Marc
ps I still have the ROM on my SD card for ELEGANCIA and it installs if I attempt to reinstall, but the kernel is incorrect I far as I understand, hence why it just goes to the white screen again. Do I just need to flash the correct kernel, if so where is it and how do I flash in this state. Ahhh, sorry its a new phone, been up until 5am!

All you have to do is get the right kernel in the sd card and flash it through cwm.

Thanks for that, so I have the correct kernel in a zip folder, within the zip folder is loads of other things including radio etc, do I put this whole zip file on to my SD card? I tried that already and it just aborts when I try and run it in CWM during the install. Do I need to do anything to the kernel folder or add any image or something.

Hi, I am Son
Did you extract the boot.img from the rom and flash through fastboot?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda app-developers app
No, I did not. Basically once the ROM installed, if you have ever seen the One X all in one kit, I pressed (stupidly) flash stock kernel (I think it was 2.6.394) and then got the white screen. If I flash the boot image from the ROM, I will still have the incorrect kernel will I not? Or will that trigger the ZIP file on my SD card, which has the correct kernel? Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot, I have gone above my head on this!
What bootloader version is on your phone? If it's 1.27 then follow this guide. You should also use 4ext recovery instead of cwm.

Thanks a lot, this looks great
One final question
Does this 4EXT automatically detect the custom kernel during the install.
"Follow through the steps and when it asks you to install a custom kernel it would be preferable to select YES, when Installing stock Kernel it is possible you will have Wifi problems. (see Step 3) "
The example it gives is for the Android Revolution HD . Is the firmware different from the stock kernel?
I am just confused with what I done on the One X software, I just clicked 'flash stock kernel' or should I not worry about this?

If You enable smartflash that will take care of it..
And the line you quoted is obsolete.. The smartflash will work for any kernel.. And it won't break wifi (even if it breaks the wifi it can be fixed)

Thank you so much, I will get on it when I finish work.
Just for final clarification, have you ever used/seen the HTC one X toolkit software? The button I pressed, which said 'flash stock kernel' which is what caused me the problems.
Are you saying that following the guide fully and enabling the smart on the 4ext recovery will reverse whatever this done and rewrite the kernel from the ROM, without me having to do anything else? I won't for example have to download and flash a new kernel to get HTC evolution HD (the one given in the example) to work?
I just fear that the fact I have already rewritten to stock kernel using this one X toolkit means problems? But if following the guide corrects this, then great. Hope that makes sense.

Follow the guide and it will correct any mistakes you made. Your new kernel will install when you flash the rom.

Hey all you guys that helped me tonight.
SUCCESS!!!!
I followed every step, installed the evolution HD ROM, wiped, sliced, diced etc etc etc.....HTC white screen.
Having looked in the guide, it suggested to do the boot image thing and next thing I know, phone is back on.
Your help means the world to me, my new phone is back online and everything seems to be working just fine, with a quality ROM and no crap branding either!
Thanks a million all

Recovery is like a 'mini rom' that you can boot into to perform installs and such on teh device. You can't make calls with it or anything like that but it gives you access to the Systen directory so you can install a new ROM and various other things like that.
If you are rooted (meaning you've installed SuperUser) you can get the 4EXT app from the Play Store and it will isntall it's recovery for you.
If you're not rooted (if you don't know what SuperUser is, you're not) you will need to install a recovery using your computer
Check out this post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870233&highlight=flash+recovery
Skip right to Step 3 since you've already S-Off'ed and unlocked the bootloader. It's a step by step guide as to how to install a recovery module
Once you install the 4EXT recovery go to the Play Store and buy the app that goes with it. It's like $3 and worth every single last penny.
Once you have the recovery modeule installed then you can use the guide by Shrex in the post above mine.

I rooted my htc desire hd and had superuser on it, I removed the programs off my phone that I didn;t want. Later on I decided to change to superuser elite. However I didn't realise that I need to have the Elite running on my phone before I uninstalled SU. Not paying particular attention to the warning meassages I uninstalled it and found to my horror that I had lost root. I have been unable to regain root and I don't know why that is but I did a factory reset and found Id lost internet. As my technical abilities are limited (I could kick myself) I'm struggling to know what to to with the phone. I realise this will take some sorting out if I haven't bricked it in my ignorance.
Thanks for any help
If you have a custom recovery like CWM or 4ext then download supersu.zip from here : http://download.chainfire.eu/351/
Put the zip in your sdcard go to recovery and install zip ...then reboot ...

No problem..also you might need to update the SU binary once you open superSU from App drawer (you only have to do it once)
Do let me know if it works.
