FM Radio - Touch Cruise Android Development

Hi!
I've just installed arzakem's Android to my HTC Touch Find (2.6.25 kernel + casacristo's RLS18 ROM)
It works pretty fine.
But anybody is able to use the FM receiver? I've discovered this app: Spirit FM Free (Search at Market). It has lots of options, chipsets, etc.
If I put a frequency of a local broadcaster, the signal meter gets higher!! And if I move the earphone cable (antenna), the signal meter "moves".
So I understand that this app is able to make work the FM receiver. BUT... does'nt sound anything.
Any idea?
Thanks!

Radio FM HELP

Hi
this is my first message here....
I was exciting yesterday when i discover this forum!!! I have found a lot of information about the HTC Cruise/Polaris.
I have just a problem:
I fell the RADIO FM very crappy...the signal is alway very disturbed and noise (also when the indication bar are 4/five).
Do you know if there is some trick to adjust or increase the power of the FM radio?
Thank You
There are only a few possibilites...
1. You have a crappy FM reception...
2. You have got a crappy FM chip (in this case get a new one)
3. You didn't tune the channel in correctly
4. You've got a crappy headset (you can check it whith listening to some mp3s)
5. If you have a French ROM, then check the Upgrading subforum, for more useable ROM versions.
That's all I can think of at first...
I think that your headset is not ok. It happend the same to me. The antenna of the headset bundled with the cruise was not OK. The recepcion was awful. With a different headset everything is OK now. Try with one from another cruise or other htc phone.
could you please suggest me some good "headset"??
in addition i would like to use my Sennheiser CX300...there is a possibility to have a good "antenna" and use my headset?

I own this one:
http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=154771&asource=159608
It works fine, allows you to have buttons to control the music reproduction, and allows you to use the Sennheiser. There are simpler models, which transform the usb connector into a 3.5 mm connector which would also allow you to use your sennheiser, although you wouldn't have the buttons. Anyway, make sure that whatever you buy, they have antenna.
Anyway, before buying anything, I would try to borrow from someone a good headset to make sure that the problem with your radio is that. In my case it was. I think that the headset from P3600 and maybe P3300 are compatible.

is it possible to use internal FM radio as FM transmitter?

is it possible to use internal FM radio (e.g blackstone fm radio) as a build in FM transmitter to transmit sound from my phone to my car radio? is it possible by software or is special hardware required?!
Dont think so.. A receiver is not a transmitter. its like trying to burn dvd with a dvd player..
that was my thought either, but it also was just an idea how our devices hardware maybe can be manipulated by software for a different use. and I won't think about the example with the dvd-burning in a dvd-reader, more like using a mic as a speaker, when you plug it differently into e.g a dictaphone ... or something
I don't believe that you can.
It seems to be possible on some chip like BCM4329 that is included in some phone (desire Z or nexus 1). Don't know if some mod ever used this FM tx chip.

Bug with the FM Radio

My FM Radio is full of bugs and the FM reception is very bad.
Is it working OK for you ?
What sort of bugs ?
no problems here...
Thanks for the answers...
The bugs are the following : sudenly the sound start to skip every 10 seconds.
Finally I cannot control the radio anymore. If i click on another radio station it will refuse to change....
Have you installed other softwares ?
I had same issue with external antenna for TMC...with original earphones acting as antenna there are no problems.
Im enoyed by th problem that i cant name the radio stations?! and it doesnt save the stations? only if i start it wil save, but if is exit its gone?? ot is it just me with air in my head?
I have to say that I don't think the reception is very good on this device - don't know if it is HW related or software related - but my X1 had a far better reception. I'm going to try the headphones from my X1 tomorrow and see if that helps the reception.
Update: Tried the X1 earphones on the HD2 and they didn't make any difference. Sat on my train with the X1 plugged into one ear and the HD2 plugged into the other - both set for 93.5 Radio 4 - and there is a world of difference. The HD2 - just doesn't pick up the broadcast signal well enough.
Confirmed,
After saveral days of test, it appears that the FM reception is really bad on the HD2.
Had no problem before with my HD1.
No FM radio at all
My FM radio even refuses to start at all. I just have the Windows icon moving for a while and then it aborts.
Or pressing any button or menu does the same. I am also using the headphone coming with the HD2 and others and it makes no difference.
Found out that this is a different problem, it was bound to a TT installation and required a factory reset to fix it. Works fine noe
Even after a hard reset, still have some troubles with this FM radio.
It works better now, but sometimes it refuses to change the channel. I have to turn off the radio and start it again to make it work.
fm radio work verry good for me

Hi, What is your radio prt ? I'm runing 2.06.51.07
i am not alone, my FM scan for chanel but dont find anything, i must set manual but the reception is real bad
same here, nothing to find
Whatever the ROM I tried, the problem is still here also....
FM radio works 5 minutes.
Bad reception.
Then kind of skip every 5 seconds exactly.
No way to change the FM radio station.
Crashes.
I guess FM Radio is an issue on the HD2. The proof is that xda's Power Radio soft does not work on the HD2.
Only solution, report this bug to HTC I think....
My Radio cannot work.
When I tap on the FM Radio icon, nothing happens.
Can anyone help, please?
Could be arial
Newbie here: - read the thread - tried to scan with provided earphones - bad result - nothing found
Tried with another set - same result
tried with Sennheiser headphones - found 10 stations - reasonable reception
I agree. FM Radio reception is poor compared to my N95 8gb. Also, I experienced same problem as you (10secs skip, freeze and so on).
Best solution: report to HTC.

[Q] O2 Serra/Touch Pro FM radio tuner

Hi,
I've been trying to get the FM radio tuner working on my O2 serra which currently has radio version 1.14.25.32 on it. The tuner does work, but the reception is extremely poor and I have tried various different headphones, but none show any improvements. The thing is, I remember it working better than it does now, basically it seems to have degraded, but I don't know at what point, I'm not sure if flashing newer radio versions has affected it at all and therefore I have a couple of questions:
1) Does the radio version actually affect/control the BlueTooth/FM/wifi chip ?
2) Are there any settings or registry entires that can be changed to improve the reception ?
3) Is there a better radio version I should be using ?
When I start the FM radio app. there is a ot of static and the signal strength is full up and I can hear faint radio stations, it won't auto tune in to anything accept my FM transmitter use in the car, even then the signal strength only goes up to the 4th bar.
Sorry for all the basic questions but I've searched and read lots on here but nothing to really answer these question directly.
Regards,
Andy
P.S. I'm actually trying to get TMC working with hypergps, but the reception is making it useless. I even tried it connected to my car antenna with some improvement, but nowhere near enough.

[Q] FM Radio without headset on Android.

Hi,
I own a GT540 on Android 2.1.
I was wondering if it's possible use the FM radio without headset? It appears, on Windows Mobile, you can tweak the registry to allow this. Is there's a software level solution to make FM Radio work without headset on Android?
Yes, I'm aware that headset acts as an antenna and you need it to get a good reception. But, at times, it would be convenient to use the FM Radio without headset even if the signal is weak.
It's also possible to insert a fake plug to make it appear that a headset is present but am looking for a software solution.
On my Huawei U8110 it is enough to put in just jack, without any cables ... it works very well

Thanks. I know that just pushing something that fakes a headset is enough. But, am looking for a software solution.

Data is expensive here and wifi can taken granted only at home/school/office.
yes, Data is expensive. have been searching the same for awhile. no clue.
My previous Wm6.5(Aer S200) does the job.
still looking and waiting for solution
Hmm, I will try stalking AOSP when I get the time.

The app would have to support this, although hypothetically the system software could be modified to fool the app. Or if you could somehow crash or otherwise disable the code that detects headphone jack insertion events that could work.
I HAVE found this annoying with the HTC app. I've developed an FM app that doesn't have this restriction. See my sig for details.
On my HTC Legend I can receive some strong stations OK with no antenna. My HTC Desire HD does much better with no antenna.
FM radio and sampling.
This kind of post makes me wonder if sampling the mic input in some non periodic (not at an exact frequency) rate, and if the sample and hold before the ADC works fast enough, that the FM band maybe decoded by the correlation of multiple sample rates. For those without an FM radio. Exact timing of the sampling would be critical, so not sure if it could work on some devices. But anyhow, probly too much low pass on the mic input.

I tried your app but it doesn't work on my phone. Perhaps, the chipset is not supported? Do you have any idea where the trigger for headset is?

I found it possible on my Galaxy Mini w cyanogen mod on Spirit Radio app. Signal was weak, but with bluetooth enabled it works perfectly. Now I want to have it with standard firmware, but it's impossible, because sound is going off after turning bluetooth on.
try this
this is spirit fm radio

i cant find singal...:/ but app is good
I found a very simple way to do this (at least on Sony Xperia with Android 6.0.1). Connect the headphones, open the stock radio app, tune to the frequency, then go to the Settings>Apps>FM Radio and click "Force Stop". Now you can unplug the headphones, the radio won't stop playing. The only problem with this is that you need to connect headphones to change the frequency.
Where to get app?
