[Q] changing default call icon/g3 specific - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I ve been trying to change my default call icon (for unknown contacts) when receiving a call with ninjamorph... I opened phone.apk and found icon, changed it and nothing happens... It does change when I open preview in Ninjamorph... I think I probably changed the wrong icon because there are hundreds of them, most of them I never saw on my phone...
Can somebody tell me which one to change? There are some general tutorials but I cant find the directories and filenames they are refering to...
Of course, phone is rooted, running Destiny 2.1 ROM...
I would also like to change that awful headphone animation when making a call if possible...
Thank you very much

ring tone keeps changing to default

I tried doing a search, but struggled finding something. Every single rom I flashed, when I go into phone settings and I click ok, it goes to the ring page setting and I see my ring tone change to some default. I could guess maybe it's due to x-button 1.0 but not sure. Does anyone have any clue for a fix?
I don't exactly follow. Just to clarify, you go to Start -> Settings -> Phone change your ringtone to something other than the default, hit "OK" and instead of closing/minimizing, it takes you directly back to the "Phone" settings page and it's set itself back to the default ringtone?
Is that what you mean?

sometimes I don't get good reception at the location I'm at so I go into the phone settings, hit network tab and select find network. I click ok and then it sends me back to the phone tab where my sounds are at and my ring tone is changed to the default. Whenever I do this, I constantly have to change it back to my original ring tone.
I know it's a small picky problem, but just never had this problem in WM5.
Well, that is strange. I couldn't replicate it.
Do you let your battery die a lot? I've heard a lot of Wizards can often revert to default settings if your battery goes completely dead.

I find this happens to me as well... and I never let my battery completely die. I wonder if it's related to the fact that my main phone ringtone is on the storage card... with the Wizard's notoriously 'wonky' miniSD slot, maybe the connection is occasionally interrupted and causes the problem.
Same problem here, using mfrazzz Crossbow Reloaded 1.5. I use a mp3 file as my ringtone, which is in the root of my storagecard.
I have a similar issue and I think it is down to some registry settings and where your ringtones are. I built my ROM with an additional Ringtone and then set this to be the default ringtone through an .RGU file. It works as long as you don't change it.....
If I change the rington (or turn on vibrate) then I can never re-select the ringtone, even though it is listed. If I edit the registry to change it, it works, but obviously editting the registry to change ringtones is a bit OTT. I have been playing around with this as I have a spare Wizard so if I find anything else I will post on this thread.
The registry keys in question are:
Code:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Ringtone0
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone2
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCatagories\Ring
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCatagories\RingPreview

OK, quick update. The file I had as my default ringtone was 'Cellular4.wav'. I added this to the ROM and changed the references in the registry (.RGU file) to point to this file. Now if I changed it via Phone, Options then the changes would take effect, however selecting this file again via the same options didn't work and the file would appear to be selected but was the previous option (filename or vibrate), manually changing this via the Registry worked however.
I have now re-encoded the file to be a .WMA file and re-built the ROM and it now appears to work. The file needs adding to the registry entry to allow it to be selected if the file isn't in the \Windows\Rings folder:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds]
"Ringtones"=multi_sz:"Ring-WindowsMobile .wma", "Ring-Standard .wma", "Ring-Vision .wma", "Cellular4 .wma"

I'm suprise I'm not the only one with this problem. So adding your filename to the registry fixes the problem?

I think the file needs to be there as well, plus it needs to be a .wma file (as opposed to a .wav or .mp3), I am not sure about the extra space in the filename (cellular4 .wma), however it is working fine for me now.

I have been suffering from this too but couldn't find the root cause nor repeatability.
One thing I did find is that switching from Internet Calling back to calling via GSM reset the ring type back to default, even though when initially going from GSM to Internet Calling the latter rang correctly.
I have this problem as well. If the tone is highlighted when I press OK it goes back to default... Click play and then stop..... now it is not highlighted, and it will stay!!
It just doesnt like you Badbert..
happened for me too, then i installed Signed_Tmo Ringtones that comes with tmobile rom. It fixed it. Hope this works for you as well.
wow...it worked, thanks!

[Q] [App Needed] Dialer Screen Outgoing & Incoming that works at 182DPI

Hi, anyone managed to patch the dialer app for outgoing/incoming and contacts for proper display at 182DPI... otherwise some alternative dialer... the ones in market i tried only supports the dial screen/contacts/incoming.. but once you hit the outgoing call, it goes back to original tab outgoing call screen..
There are two packages that control the whole phone call experience on the tab along with the needed framework files as well for the graphics. Contacts.apk will contain the dialer and what not. Phone.apk will contain the cuurent call state screen (ie in call screen and such). Simply changing the dialer is not going to do what you want. There have been attempts at it but people usually give up. Check for versions for older Overcome ROMs and maybe give it a go yourself. There are some posts in the Galaxy I9000 forum about modding the two mentioned apk for different screen res'es so that might be a good starting place.
we are waiting for edit .. we hope it's gonna be soon

[Q] Desire on non sense rom and few questions

I got HTC Desire and on Oxygen rom and I got few questions regarding stock gingerbread experience and hoping people come across work around for annoyances I'm having. I know some of questions are better suited for specific forum for applications but I just want to throw everything out here and see if anyone knows.
1. Miss call notification it's driving me nuts. I use "Go Contacts" because of T9 search. In notification I press miss call person and it still stays in notification. I remember reading in the past developers can't get rid of it with some reason due to gingerbread change. Anyone got work around for this without solution being use stock caller?
2. I'm using LauncherPro's bottom icon notification feature for miss calls/sms. Only problem is I press calls and it still say I got miss calls with whatever number miss call I got unless I press on the number I miss called. How can I make it so I can get rid of notification of LauncherPro when I press phone contact button or something?
3. I use Handcent and it has great feature of changing LED light into blue and it makes so it much easier to know when I got sms even when charging. I'm not sure if it's because I use Full Screen Caller ID or I pressed LED root feature where I can change colour to what ever I want but it just doesn't work any more even after I disabled LED root feature.
Because of it I'm thinking maybe use separate app for notification or something if they exist?
Many thanks in advance and let me know if anyone have better way of handle miss call notification issue!
I have HTC Desire S, used all kinds of dialer apps and had the same unread-count problem.
However, after I changed my original ROM to LBA (and also changed the launched to GO Launcher so it might also be related) - it was fixed!
I don't know how, but it's working fine now.

[Q] How to save and restore sets of sounds

I've Googled and searched XDA but I've not found an answer to my question (maybe I'm asking the wrong question).
So I get a bunch of customer notification sounds and ringers, and I assign them all. Then my SD card spontaneously ejects itself, or I take it out on purpose or something, or I change handsets, and I lose all those sound settings. Is there a way prevent my phone from forgetting my custom ringers? Or my custom notification sounds? Like a Theme maybe, but for sounds instead of visual elements?
TIA,
Joe

Personalized notifications for contacts not working...

I posted this in the AT&T S8+ Forum, figured i'd post in here too, might get faster help. I did do a couple searches before posting, but if someone has already addressed this I apologize.
Hi all, I seem to be unable to get individual text notifications working on my S8+. That is, I go into the contact, I find where it says "Message Tone" and I set the tone I'd like to use. When I go in and look, everything seems to be correct.
Then when a text comes in, the default notification is still used. This is the case when both a tone that I added is used, or a built in tone. I had thought perhaps it was because I was using a 3rd party texting app (Textra, was not a fan of the default Samsung app), but even when I reset to the Samsung messages app, this was still the case (I even tried restarting the phone after setting messages as the default, just to make sure).
Anybody else having this issue? Anybody fix it? I've tried everything I can find, hopefully one of you can point out something obvious that I've missed.

No issues here, after setting the message tone you want are you tapping save in the upper right of the screen?

I am. I've attached a screenshot for a contact I'm using as a test (my GVoice number). It LOOKS like it's set up correctly (at least to me) just not working correctly. Personalized Ring Tones seem to work, but not text notifications.
The phone is doing a couple other quirky things. I'm wondering if it might be time to just say "F it" and do a hard reset.

Here are the screens I get when changing a ringtone or messaging tone. Didn't get the screenshot low enough for messaging tone, it's right below ring tone.

Yeah, I don't think I'm doing anything differently. Weird that ring tones work but not text messages. I had a couple different contact managers installed (don't really like the Samsung one) and thought maybe they were causing the issue, so uninstalled them and rebooted. Still no go.
I do like the look of the dark theme for the contacts app though, definitely gonna change it to that!
I also use Textra on my S8+, as I don't like the default one, and you set the personalized tones in Textra not contacts.
In Textra, go to one of the texts from someone that you want to customize and long press it, then go the three dot menu in the upper right corner and select customize. Then select Notifications, then notification sound and pick the one that you want.
Works perfectly...

:victory: The files are IN the computer!! It's so obvious!! Thanks so much, this has been driving me nuts.
Still a little weird it wouldn't work when I reset the phone to the Samsung app, but now I don't care because this works!! Thank you so much.
Sometimes it is just the little things...
