[Q] Kernel or ROM issue - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently running Peter's ICS 12/6 nightly with Matrix kernel 16.0. Every now and then my screen won't automatically sleep. I have settings under display to sleep after 15 secs, yet my screen will stay on until I manually shut it off. Is this a bug, or a setting in NStools that I have to adjust? Is anyone else experiencing this?
thanks

hi.
I had that same prob. I just flashed the v.16.5 and, somehow, everything get back to normal, u can try the same or just set all the option in the NStools to default and see if this solves it.
Cheers
if i helped u somehow, hit thanks button pls.

Did you perform the required WIPE steps/factory reset instructions that your custom ROM would have no doubt recommended that you do before installing?
Hi all, thanks for the reply,
I tried both coredroid and LBC
coredroid i will have keyboard issue
but for LBC i have both.
And i did a full wipe before installing... Now im back to stock rom and no issue at all.

Strange! Did you install the same apps in each case? as I suspect it could be application related.
You could always try a stock keyboard replacement, I use SWYPE but there are plenty others.....I know that this doesn't identify the problem but hopefully avoids it.
Custom Rom issues should be posted in that ROM's thread.

are you using any program like set cpu to oc?
sometimes it takes time for set cpu to change to higher clock just after unlocking the device

Any way around not having to clear the "cache" on BOOT?

So I am running into the problem that my phone wont boot up if I turn my phone off, or it dies.
The only way around to getting it back on is getting CWM up and doing a "cache wipe".
The symptoms I am having when I try to turn it on is I do not get past the LG logo. The soft keys are lit and the screen back light comes on and off (black screen) with a 2-3 second intervals forever (have not went past 10min).
I am running xboards tweaked 2.3.3 with fauxes stock volt kernel, any more into?
Thanks guys.
No one? Really?..
Sounds like an errant app is causing you problems. Once you boot start uninstalling apps one at a time that you think are the culprit and try rebooting. Do this until your phone can boot again and then you'll have a good idea of the problem app.

The only thing I can think of is maybe an issue with the custom kernel. Do you remember having the issue before you flashed Faux's kernel?

I installed fauxes OC (over clock), and its working fine now, I was having problems with SV (stock voltage), maybe that was the culprate?
P.S. After restarting my phone (I have been doing it every so often to test for stability) my home screen got reset to factory? I had all my apps and everything, it was just factory..??? Only happened once tho.

[Q] Complete freeze

I have the latest stock JB installed from the google factory images with simple root v1.0 and clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.0, and my phone completely freezes from time to time. If I push the power button the screen goes off, but if I push it again, only the buttons light up, so I have to pull out my battery to reset it. It happens more and more and it get's really annoying. I just had a full wipe a couple days ago, and it did the same thing before, but I didn't had any problems like this with ics. Anyone else having similar problems or is my phone getting crazy? Any advice?
It's called sleep of death. Try to flash another kernel see if that works.

What? He has stock JB, with the stock kernel. There's hardly anything more stable than that....
The graphics driver had been throwing bugs, but the new r6 release had an update so possibly fixed bug. May be the cause of the OP issue

Haven't had my phone running stock so I cannot tell whether it is very stable. But the problem he described indicates this particular issue. And now bedalus confirms.

[Q] Time and date reset to 1970 after reboot

Currebtly, I'm on AOSPA ROM.. After every reboot, the time and date reset to 1970. Any way to fix this?

You have your SIM card in your phone?
If you have a SIM, then you should have it working.

Hi, I have the same problem. It started after I flashed Thunderzap kernel. I've tried even Phantom kernel and it does the same. With stock kernel is everything about time ok, with Phoenix kernel was time after restart correct too. ROM was always stock .14
Disabling automatic time zone didn't helped..

See from this post to the end, me and @R.A.B discussed a bit about this problem, and he found a solution that not the kernel downgrade

Did you tried reflashing ftf ?/ I had faced this issue once but it got solved after reflashing fw.
Yes, I did and not just once. Right now I'm trying Omni (4.4.2) with Thunderzap and time is ok. It has to be mistake of stock ROM.
my problem is back again i know if i flash ftf again problem will solve( tried it once ) !but i don't want to flash my phone for this problem
meanwhile this time my time and date reset to 2009/01/02
running on dextroid
phantom ver7

The question is: (using Phantom as example cause I use it on my phone)
When I first installed the v7 of kernel, my time is OK. Because one of the freezes on my phone, I needed to pull out my battery. After this the problem occurred. Some time after, the time problems was solved by itself, but just for some time. Two or three reboots before the problem shows up again...
I don't know why, but I looked on logcat but no clue about a solution :crying:
Flash FTF again for the problem shows up again, its a lot of unnecessary work....
Due to freezes on last version, using v4.5 rocks. Waiting for a new version, cause @Shivam Kuchhal asked for some tester and I applied to testing it.

That's true. My phone for the first time with Phantom kernel was fine about time. Than I reflashed it and than it started. I think that it started after i installed kernels modules. Coz for the first time i didn't knew that it is important..

CM11 Bluetooth doesn't work

Hey,
since some days my Bluetooth is not activable, I just press ON and it switches grey and goes back to OFF after some time..
Well, worked before and now I tried to update Cyanogenmod11 to cm-11-20140322-NIGHTLY-hammerhead and it still doesn't work.
Someone has an idea, how to fix this?
Thanks
I even tried to delete /etc/bluetooth -> nothing
CM11 Bluetooth has been horrible since the CAF switch. I haven't found any solution yet but to switch to another rom.

Use another rom, it's nightly with a reason
Okey, thanks, but I'm wondering why it just happened now, and worked for a long time?
May be you could ask in the rom thread itself as you will get a faster reply over there.
-Flowed from an IceCold Hammerhead!
Solved the problem -> using ElementalX Kernel
Thanks for your help
