[Q] Matr1x Kernel Question - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Posting this here as I can't post in Development Section
I am using CyberGRMOD ROM. I would like to use Matr1x Kernel and i tried 16.5 CFS but every time i get an email (GMAIL)..the hardware keys turn on and stay on...till i clear out the notification from the notification bar... I can't figure out how to change that. Any help would be appreciated.

Get NSTools from the market and use it to 'tune' the kernel and disable BLN. Matr1x has BLN (backlight notification) enabled by default.

Thanks

Sure Enough that did it. I wasn't aware of what BLN meant...picking up things as I go. Mucho Thanx!!

It seems the consensus report is that missed call notifications do not work but text messages, email notifications from gmail, google talk DO work. This is certainly the case for me.

a lil help

well i need a kernel which supports bln control and notification power control.. nothing more than tat no uv or underclocked kernel just the above mentioned.. if any1 can help me out or guide me to the rite page im runing stock rooted 2.3.4.. thanks
Well if you use Matr1x, you can set it to 1Ghz using setcpu lol

You will need custom ROM for notification power control if you meant being able to choose options such as Sync, WiFi, 2G/3G Toggle, Brightness setting on notification bar.
As for the appropriate kernel for your need, Matr1x and Netarchy fits your bill. Both kernels support BLN control and an option to UC/UV if you prefer.
ok jungbum thanks bt i have heard that stock rom is the best for battery so a lil hesitant to change rom.. by the way wat does your username mean.. sounds different

[Q] Helpppp! BLN not working for handcent notification

Sorry for not posting this in the development subforum as i do not have the permission
I am using an I9023
Actually it is not working only after i installed the CM nightly 214, no matters which kernel i am using
before that, i was using nightly 195 and everything works fine
i wonder if this is a problem of the latest CM nightlies
I am using the pro version of BLN control and in the BLN status, i can notice that the led service is disabled even after I activated BLN. However BLN still works fine with the missing calls
*LED notification is enabled in Handcent
please help, thank you
may someone please help

It could be just a problem with one of the builds since they are in fact experimental nightlies. You could go back a version (213) and see if that helps at all since I've had an issue with bootlooping upgrading a nightly.
The most recent version of Deck's ROM does this also, I had to drop back to 1.3d from 1.3e because I couldn't stand not having the notifications haha
I FIGURED IT OUT
In the handcent settings, you have to change the LED blinking frequency to something other than default. I set mine to normal, and now it works fine. Let me know if this helps!

It DOES support them
I know that this is an old thread but turning off the Screen Wake on Messaging settings seems to make the BLN work again. At least on my Samsung GS.

Anyway to disable the capacitive button lights?

I read that CM7 will supposedly let you turn off the button lights (back, menu, search, and home), but is there a way to turn them off without it? Thanks.
Are you using a custom kernel with backlight notifications? Or do you just want the lights off all the time? If you are using a custom kernel with BLN you can use BLN Control from the market to disable backlight notifications.
I'm using it stock and want the 4 cap. button lights to turn off after a few seconds so I can watch videos in the dark (or have an app that I start that turns off the lights before I watch a movie).
Does BLN also disable capacitivte button lights (not just backlight notifications)? Are there other non custom rom solutions?
Backlight dimmer (BLD), one of Ezekeel's mods does this. It disables the capacitive buttons after x amount of time (variable you can set freely). But you need a custom kernel for this to work, not a custom rom. Check the developer section, most new kernel versions support BLD. Then, you can download NSTools from the market to set and configure the functionality.
BLN is only for notifications and blinking normally so it's not what you're looking for.

Awesome, that's actually even better. One question though, once the buttons/lights are disabled how are they re-enabled? Simply touching the screen? Thanks.
nope they'll stay off if you touch the screen. you have to touch the buttons themselves to get them to relight

Oh ok, perfect. thanks
Can someone point me to the correct file to download here for installing BLD:

Thanks
edit: the newest CM7 has the feature built in!! Thanks everyone

As a clarification, the feature is not available on 7.1.0.1 but only in the nightly later nightly builds. However, if you're running the stable mod, a workaround is to use Spark Mod Manager.

[Q] Handcent BLN Notification on CM9

How can I get the soft keys to light up when I get Handcent notifications? They work fine for GMail but I want them for my texts as well.
I'm running CM9 V2.1 with whatever kernel comes with that (Read: I haven't flashed any other ones).
Any pointers? I've tried the solution for CM7 in this thread but it didn't work.
V2.1 also seems to have removed the option to turn BLN off and the BLN app from the Market says it's incompatible and I don't have the BLN mod installed.
Try out NStools.
Cheers
If i helped u somehow, hit thanks button pls
There are no BLN options whatsoever for me in NSTools. Any more suggestions?
