My absolute favorite ROM for the MyTouch 4G is Virtuous Unity 2.39.0. It's great on the battery, I found a working Genius Button Fix and Beats Audio

I agree - the first step you should do is to decide whether you'd like to use Sense-based ROM or not, as there's a great difference between those. For Sense you may check Virtuous Unity, for AOSP - Cyanogenmod 7.1. Only after that you may go deeper for more customized versions of either Sense or not builds.

I wonder if there's any noticeable differences between Virtuous Unity and Affinity. I know - the first is Sense 3.0, the second - Sense 3.5. But isn't the 3.5 just an optimized version of 3.0, and why do many people prefer 3.0 over 3.5? Most reviews I read didn't make it clear to me.

Yes, try the Official Port of Android Revolution HD™ 7.0.0 ROM. Very smooth, just missing working WiFi calling and you will need to flash another camera to get the ffc working properly. Wow, its super!

I would agree that Android Revolution 7.0.2 rocks! It's VERY stable. Some people will call me crazy, but I am new to flashing roms & I don't really like the cyanogen 7 Rom. It's ok, but not for me....

Since the current break thru on Fr3vo and soon Fre3dom.
My excitement level is getting higher and higher everyday.
Don't get me wrong I am enjoying what I have at the moment.
I have had no issues at all with my Sensation.
But XDA and being an owner of the HD2 I have become a flashaholic.
I am wondering what roms everyone is waiting on?
I personally can't wait for a Cyanogen or MIUI Rom to flash.

OP said it already... CM7 (!!) and MIUI. I'm switching over from a G1, so I'm looking forward to MIUI just to play with, but CM7 as a daily driver. Can't wait!

Might install CM7 on it to play around.
But right now, I am pretty much used to Sense.
MiUi = Best ROM for performance + functionality + eyecandy. (those Chinese know their ****)

I agree. I have always had CM7 on ny HD2.
Then I got the Sensation I tried out a MIUI Rom and love it.

I'm loving the energy 3.5 has brought to the mt4g forums... At first the badass devs served us a taste test with a few features not figured out yet... Now its poppin off... WiFi included. Thanks to all the developers that have been busting ass and continue to.

He's not the quickest with updating his OPs, you can't win them all. But he confirmed in his thread that it does work when you flash Unity v9 kernel, but it could be a lucky fluke only with version 1.3.

Unity v9 fixes WiFi, that original post is messy n all and I have to stitch together screenshots, buttons, and several other things... but it works

I know its personal preference when it comes to roms but i am currently on rafy's pure bliss port (wifi fixed) and think its best among all sense 3.5 roms out there.

DARKSIDE SENSE RUNNY 3.5 v3.3.0 is the best sense 3.5 out there as of now.

looks nice.. but its for sensation. so it will need alot of resizing, and wont be as smooth as its built for dual core...
we havent had asensation port yet
omo, we should stick with dhd ports cause the hardware is very similiar

Virtuous Unity is a pyramid port, May be like that a sensation port can be possible
Needs a lot of hard work..Lets see when VU going to release sense 3.5 ROM, who knows it may be sensation base
Hey guys I just picked myself up a Sensation 4G (Not new to Android Dev.) so I was thinking about creating,my own custom rom but wasn't sure what the Sensation guys like in their roms. I came from the Huawei u8150 were getting CM9 to run without a gpu was a move from the lord. So far I have tried Stock, Insert Coin, and Android Revolution roms all were great but I like a little cyanogenmod in my life. Would you guys like a new CM9 build crossed with a few tweaks of mean and fixes I find. Is so vote for it. Also reply with what you, look for in a rom.

I will start the rom today and if all goes well, I can have an early release out by Saturday. At first it will probably be stock cm9 with a few tweaks but then I will see what I can do about theming.
A CM9 ROM will be awesome. Are you going to try to get it working by yourself? You could get together with the open sensation project guys and make more progress that way. Just a thought

Welcome to the Sensation boards, and thanks for asking for input. I'm not a sense hater by any means, but I ALWAYS go back to AOSP roms. CM9 and Open Sensation are compiled nicely, but for some reason make my phone heat.
So, any build compiled from source would be welcomed. Each phone is different, hopefully your build keeps mah phone cool.
AOSP ROM with a Sense Camera would be loved by many, I am sure.

Yea I thought about speaking to them about it but I figured since I am newer to the phone I could try to mess with it a little myself before I go messing with other peoples work.
There seems to be a good number of sense roms and cm9 roms out there... why not try something kinda out there?
like a port of an xperia rom (I think Xperia S has the same chipset) or samsung's? (I know there's an xperia-ish rom out there but i think it's just aokp with xperia mods and I think that Sony's UIX is pretty good and not bloaty).
just thinking out there... porting something like that might be too much.

I haven't had the time to make a thread for it I'm sorry. I've been taking finals and will be through next week. Though I will not stop working on roms. For now you can find the Rom in Rom manager. I try to post here when I get home

Those 4 are your best non sense options.
You can also run ARHD and strip sense out of the UI. It's still a sense rom at it's core though.

just flash CM9 and strip it yourself(make a nandroid backup before doing so). using Titanium Backup, make a backup of the app that youre wanting to uninstall first, then get rid of it. keep going down the list until you are satisfied with what you have. if you come across any errors with anything, just restore the app/ROM and continue down the list. hope this helps, I do this quite often

Go to sense-O-maniac website. He has ICS senseless rom there with firmware and radio. I have the sense 4 rom and working great.

Its basically CM9 with a few coding differences. For all intents and purposes though its cm9.
Opensensation was the project to get cm9 development for the sensation kicked off originally

Apart from the ones you mentioned (which are fast, barebones and senseless) you may try AOKP. HyperSensation or HyperNonSense are best because of their super small ROM size and excellent performance.
If you got bored with No Sense ROM's (like me Stock Sense > No Sense > Sense ) you can try ViperS 1.0.1 ROM.
Try Eyecandy AOKP rom. I heard that its fast and quite stable
