[Q] My XOOM is not working **HELP** Please!!! - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently flashed [ROM][ICS] Team Eos ICS 1.0.0 yesterday and did not have any problems till today. I dont know why but now when I turn on my Xoom I have this message (Encryption Unsuccessful; Encryption was interrupted and cant complete. As a result, the data on your tablet is no longer accessible. To resume using your tablet, you must perform a factory reset. When you set up your tablet after the reset, you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your Google Account.).... I clicked the reset button on that screen and tab restarted and right back to that message. I went into recovery and did a full wipe and restarted again but still same message. I went back to recovery and try to do a restore and this message (E: Can't mount /sdcard) same message comes up if i try to go to Install zip from sdcard. Someone Please Help me. I don't know what else to do.

Go back to step 1, and try again. Your data is gone anyway, you have nothing to lose.

I've done over and over again. Still the same.

What was your step 1? I'm saying, flash the recovery honeycomb ROM's from motorola.
This flashes over everything.

Hi,
I Have the same Problem.

well, since all your data is most likely lost, I'd just restart from scratch. I wouldn't flash a stock rom though, I'd just try to do the "fastboot oem unlock" again (as well as everything afterwards: install cwm, root, flash rom). I've been told that "fastboot oem unlock" will do one hell of a job resetting your xoom;-)
also, do you guys have an sdcard inserted into your xoom when you start CWM? If it says it can't mount /sdcard within cwm, it's talking about the sdcard, not about the internal storage which is being mounted as /sdcard when you boot your xoom.

Hi
Yes, I have an sdcard inside. the recovery is clockworkmod v4.0.0.4.
When i tried to apply update from sd card i get the error "e:cant mount /sdcard/update.zip
the update is there..
maybe i need to install a new recovery again?

Xoom Issue
I have been running fine on an ICS ROM for quite a while. Yesterday I took out my normal SD card and put another one in to get some pictures off of it. When I got the card seated smoke started coming out of that area on the Xoom. I was able to eject the card and get it out. I powered the Xoom off instantly in case something was going on. I am able to power it back up at this time but I'm sure I will have to send it into Motorola now. It is still under warranty. Is there anyway to get back to stock without using an SD card?

OK guys
I FIX IT!!
the steps are.
1. install ADB tools
2. start the xoom into recovery
3. fallow the thread "[Root] Universal Xoom Root - ANY XOOM ANY UPDATE"
here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242241
4. do all the steps again (even if your xoom is rooting and have an open bootolader.)
5. reboot and...you have the SDcard working again.
6. from here' its easy..
have a good luck

Now if someone can figure this out for me without being able to use the SD card slot it would be great. I can't put an SD card in my Xoom.

are you sure you wrecked your sd card slot and not your sd-card? does that card still work in other devices like your computer?
there should be a way to revert to stock using rsd lite (a motorola tool to flash the device) and a .sbf-file (that's an image with the original firmware), but the links i've found so far are dead:-(

Yeah I'm sure it is the SD slot. It started smoking and I had to eject the card out. I'm not brave enought to try another SD card in it.
As for RSD Lite I have used it many times with my Droid X so I know exactly what you are talking about. I was just assuming that the Xoom would work differently even though it is Motorola also.

First did your try to Encrypt a Custom ROM? It won't work, as it only encrypts with the stock goo in it. Second ... did you flash the correct ROM for your Device? If it was the wrong ROM, the right ROM might be an easy fix. Try to install CWM again maybe it got corrupted then try run restore. Anywho -
Hope you have a Backup - Lock BootLoader, Unroot, .... will return you to stock, then Unlock BootLoader - Reroot & start fresh and put all of your goodies back.

Just try the SD card that was in your xoom in another device. I'd first look if it looks burnt, if it doesn't, put it into a cheap uSD-Card-Reader and plug that one into a cheap usb-charger (so to not wreck my computer) and if that doesn't explode, I'd plug that sd-card-reader into my pc to see if it works.

Yes, RSD lite should work with the xoom exactly as with your Droid X. Problem is just that you need the matching .sbf-file

Did you try hold power button and Vol up at the same time? (to power it on) Not sure what model you have, but send that bad boy back before you burn your house down.
Anywho -
I unrooted and reverted back to stock from Tiamat ICS Stingray_cdma 1.0.0
for my 4G Upgrade. No problems all good. I used the software from the link below (Thank you killswitch23456) and followed the instructions -

It won't work. I tried it in a couple different devices. My wife's phone (HA) and I tried a few different SD card readers with a laptop. I used a USB version reader and one that plugged directly into the slot. It is melted on top but really didn't look all that bad. Trust me I tried everything I could because it had a bunch of stuff on it that I hadn't backed up yet.

I noticed that a load of the files people have posted on many sites and forums were through megaupload which is why they are hard to find right now. I actually think I had one on that SD card of course.

Well I can get it to power on without a problem and I can get into recovery and such also on the Xoom. The issue I have is the only way I know how to do anything with the Xoom and ROMS requires the SD card. I just don't want to send it in like it is and them deny my warranty.

Are you able to do this with these instructions without an SD card in the Xoom?

No I never tried to encrypt anything

I've tried everything I could. I clicked on Reset Tablet and that did'nt work. I tried Factory data reset in Recovery and that did't work. I tried to see if I can flash anything in recovery I can not get into "install zip from sdcard". In recovery I cant get into back & restore, so Im not able to restore anything. I plugged xoom into computer with usb and nothing comes up. Whatever I click on in Recovery mode all I get is "E: cant mount /sdcard. I've tried holding power button and vol. up to restart xoom but it just goes back to Encryption unsuccessful screen. I took out sdcard and put it back in....I've tried everything I could.

[Q] Nexus S 4G won't boot past Google Screen!!

I tried rooting my phone, but when I flashed CWM my Nexus S stopped booting... it freezes on the Google screen in the intro. I can boot into Fastboot, and cwm, but I cant connect the Internal memory to the computer without it booting like it is supposed to. Does anybody know of anything I can do to fix my phone and bring it back to stock??
There are guides for returning to stock stickied in the Nexus S 4G Android Development forum.
Before you do that though, try flashing a different recovery, like the one linked to here or here.
Btw, which guide did you use? You're not the first person to have this problem, and it's really bugging me (though probably not as much as it's bugging you :-o).
Maximilian Mary: I tried to post the link, but since I'm a new member I have to wait 8 posts before I can post a URL.... :/
I will try a different recovery, but how would I flash a rom if I can connect my phone via usb mount?

I'm a little out of my depth here, but I think it's
fastboot flash system system.img.
You don't need to put the rom image on the sdcard. Just put it in the same folder as fastboot.
It was titled "How to Root Nexus S!"
And I will try to flash recovery and try that rom command, thank you )

There's a button for that.
I got the link. Thanks. I looks like you flashed a boot image that is incompatible with your phone. That guide was for the T-Mobile Nexus S. (Why they're screwing with the boot.img to begin with, I really don't understand.)
Download the attached file, and unzip it to the same folder as fastboot. The md5 sum is d4a9508f9321eb25df3383f00f571e8b. Then
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You'll probably also want to use one of the recoveries listed above to
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
, but leave system alone for now. Flash that only as a last resort.

OMG!! im having the same issue. could you please post the link for ODIN so i can return to stock and take it from there please? I rely on my phone so much and i need it asap thank you.
same problem with me.
but in my case, the phone not only freeze after the google logo before boot. I tried several times to pull the battery and start the phone again, it took several times until the phone can boot normally again.
After that, my nexus s can work as usual. but it only takes 3-4 hour until it freeze/hangs or reboot automatically and show image of green robot lay down with red alert triangle...
sometimes I noticed all application force closed like gmail, gtalk, etc. (its a basic apps instead of 3rd party app)
History :
- root GB 2.37 using superoneclick
- upgrade OTA to ICS 4.04
- problem happens
- root using guide : nexusshacks.com
- unroot using guide : nexusshacks.com
- back to factory setting on GB 2.34
- upgrade OTA to ICS 4.04
- Still got that problem.....
I'm using Nexus S 4G Sprint, pls help me guys...
nexus s won't boot
I had the same problem and read elsewhere that heating the phone with a hairdryer solves the problem.
I must say, indeed it did.
I removed the battery and the SIM card, then heated up the phone (so it really feels warm) put back the battery and sim and simsalebim the phone started again. and is still working since (now already a few day's)
It seems that a component in the phone is heat sensitive, the question in my mind is when will this show again and do I need to consider buying a new phone.
But sofar it works
PS I also tried hard reset factory reset the lot, but in the end only heating up helped.
Good luck, David
I fixed this problem! but I had to wipe all user data by rooting it using nexusrootICS. It finally boots up and the phone works now... that's all I need.

OK Guys, I'm in big trouble right now. I wanted to install a Kernel. I was on Viperrom 2.1.0. Something went wrong and my phone went into a bootloop. After trying a couple of things(like installing another Kernel) Everything went from bad to worst. Now my whole Internal Memory is erased and there's still a bootloop. Luckily I can access my TWRP Recovery, but i can't mount my sdcard, because it says thats it's unable to mount sdcard. How can I transfer a rom to my sdcard so I can install it?

If you can get in in recovery(TWRP) try to delete SD card or phone storage and than mount and transfer the rom that you want.

if you want me to help you my brother, take my advice, i was an iphone heavy user but now i am 100% Android fan-boy, when i had the iphone previously i have encountered a prob like this, after days of heavy research in addition to my experience, you need simply to reset your phone motherboard !!! you can do this simply by two methods :
1- You need to self open your phone or by an experimenter and unplug your motherboard/battery cable, wait for 1 to 2 minutes and plug it again the phone will work again do kernel install and Bla Bla Bla .....
2- It may be take some time, but, it also works, leave your phone woke until the battery is completely drained, leave it for more 1 week to make sure that you haven't any current in the battery, charge it again fully and power on it, it should work and do the rest ...
NOTE : i have been an iphone repairer, i've tried to two methods and it works fine .

Then you are not installing rom correctly--
So, you can flash a rom thru twrp, you can mount sdcard also, right?
I would back up sdcard to pc at this point to be safe
you probably have no nandroids on phone or pc, correct?
you also are not giving enough info as to kernels and roms you are flashing and exact steps to do it
are you S4 version on phone
most likely issues are you are not wiping all, including system 3x. and not flashing boot image with rom
don't do any iphone stuff--

[Q] Help in returning to stock rom

So i'm looking for a little help.
A little while back I used this thread : [GUIDE] TF300T Unlock/Root/Flash for Factory JB Devices (newbie friendly)
To help me install this custom rom : [ROM][TF300]|Mar 28| Energy™ -.¸¸.·´¯ Official JB 4.2.1 Stock or Themed ¯´·.¸¸. -
onto my girlfriends TF300T tablet
and I have this : [RECOVERY][TF300T/TG] TWRP 2.5.0.0 Touch Recovery! [2013-4-9] on there as well
but I can't remember if this was part of the unlock/root/flash process or not, so i'm not sure if it used it during the process or if I added it shortly afterword
now its been while since I have done it but then the tablet started to restart randomly while she was using it.
so I figured no biggie maybe an app got messed up or something, and so I told her to back up her pics, exc she wanted off the unit
and I could look at reinstalling the apps or just taking the unit back to factory rom
about a week later it started to reboot more often randomly
and now it is to the point where it will not make it into the rom
now I can make it into the boot selection where I can choose RCK (for the TWRP), USB, or the other 2 options
and I know I can make it into the TWRP tool as well and it does not repeatedly boot from there, so i'm sure its a rom issue and not a hardware issue, but I could still be wrong
the unit is currently charging so I have not had a chance to try for the usb connection option or anything else yet
hopefully the usb option will work so I can try to recover the pics, exc before taking the unit back to factory
now in the process I know I have unlocked the unit, I believe I have done the min root but have not fully rooted the unit if that makes sense
so i'm just wondering if I will half to fully root (and how do I do that if I do since I can't make it into a rom)
how do I clear the rom that has gone bad
how do I install a factory rom (how do I tell which is the lastest rom, and which one is needed for my unit)
and then I should be good from there
if you need any more info please let me know and maybe some instructions on how to get to that info
in the process of putting the energy rom onto it, I spent a week of reading, researching, and figuring out which way would probably be the safest for me to do, plus the easiest for me to understand
now that it has been so long I have been reading and researching again, I just need that nudge that gets me in the right direction
i'm sure i'm not the only one that has had this issue with a rom, and i'm also sure there is a guide out there already that goes over how to put it back to a factory rom
just for some reason i'm either over looking it or not finding it

now in the process I know I have unlocked the unit, I believe I have done the min root but have not fully rooted the unit if that makes sense
so i'm just wondering if I will half to fully root (and how do I do that if I do since I can't make it into a rom)
how do I clear the rom that has gone bad
how do I install a factory rom (how do I tell which is the lastest rom, and which one is needed for my unit)
and then I should be good from there
if you need any more info please let me know and maybe some instructions on how to get to that info
in the process of putting the energy rom onto it, I spent a week of reading, researching, and figuring out which way would probably be the safest for me to do, plus the easiest for me to understand
now that it has been so long I have been reading and researching again, I just need that nudge that gets me in the right direction
i'm sure i'm not the only one that has had this issue with a rom, and i'm also sure there is a guide out there already that goes over how to put it back to a factory rom
just for some reason i'm either over looking it or not finding it

Its very simple to return to stock. But first, do you have the tablets drivers installed on your pc?
---------- Post added at 06:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:14 AM ----------
And do you have fastboot?
if you are talking about the android sdk tools
yes that is installed on my computer from the first time I did the tablet
and I went ahead and did the updates for it as well
and tried plugging the unit in with the fastboot and confirm it shows up in device manager

Lol okay. Theres actually a more simple way.
1. Download the latest asus firmware.
2. Extract the zip file
3. Flash it like a normal rom.
If you cant use this method then you'll have to use fastboot. Here's a link but if you need any help, just ask : http://www.androidauthority.com/transformer-pad-tf300t-restore-stock-firmware-108016/
how do I check the sku according to that guide if i'm not able to load into the android os
that only shows if you can load into the os
would the box have that?
or now looking at the options that I should assume its is a US sku lol

lol, and how do I do that using the twrp?
can't find any detailed instructions on using twrp on flashing a rom, especially the stock one
i'm sure there is a set of detailed instructions cause I swore I saw one once
but i'm not able to find it again
cause I thought besides using the install part there were things I had to clear as well for it to work
oh and yeah the download link for fastboot is no long working in the one guide you gave me to follow so not sure if I already have what it is talking about

Its simple lol. When you download the firmware from asus, its usually in a .zip form. In it, there is another zip file. Copy that zip file onto your tablet and flash it with twrp.

Yes. You have to do a factory reset first.
and how do I do that lol, and what happens when I don't do that first
is this tablet now dead since the step of doing the reset was not complete? cause now I can not access twrp and it just sits there with the asus logo and the swirling dots
when I try to access the usb option all I have is rck, android and wipe, rck just gives a failure shortly after trying

If you want to use twrp, download the us stock firm ware. when you open it, you'll see a file that looks like this: "US_epad-user-10.6.1.15.3". copy that file onto your tablet and flash it like a normal rom. haha
For fastboot, if you have the android sdk, then you already have fastboot so you dont have to download fastboot again.

if you cant enter twrp, then you dont have to worry about the factory reset you can flash the stock rom using fastboot.

[Q] Activation Problem - Boot Loop

So I sold an unopened, sealed Nexus 5 to someone last night and he's having a problem activating the device.
Here is his description of what happened:
"I popped in the SIM card, the loading proceeded as normally. It said it was activating and then a box popped up saying that "android is upgrading system files" or something like that. It restarted and went back to the language selection screen. I pressed English, next and then it went to the connect to wifi screen, froze and then restarted before I could even connect. Now it just loads on the boot"
I had him boot into recovery and do a factory reset, but the result is the same. I had him do a 2nd factory reset just be sure, but again, same result.
My thought is the system upgrade didn't happen correctly and not is corrupted.
What's the best course of action? Can I use the WugFresh toolkit to flash stock and unroot, or would I have to do it through ADB since the phone can't boot into the system?
I don't want to leave the buyer hanging, he seems like a nice guy, but I'm just not sure how to proceed?
Use ADB and flash the factory image for him.

Easy walkthrough:
1) Install ADB drivers (You can do it with WUG Toolkit).
2) Reboot your device in Fastboot mode (Hold up/down volume and power)
3) Download the latest HAMMERHEAD image from google website.
4) Download the Google SDK (not needed, but you will need Fastboot.exe, so I would recommend downloading the whole thing)
5) Unzip the image (.tar or .tgz I think) to the location where Fastboot.exe is (all the files should be in the same directory, usually platform-tools)
6) Double-click on the flash-all.bat file from the unzipped .tar or .tgz folder, should install stock image on your phone (note that you might need the latest version of Java installed on your computer)
And you're done.
Hope it helped!

Hello, I am the buyer of this Nexus device. I was able to successfully do these steps above, and reload the stock image for the Nexus 5. However, I am still running into issues.
WITH SIM:
I was able to get to the home screen after the initial setup, sent a few test text messages to my Google Voice number successfully, and browse on Chrome for a little bit before the device froze and restarted. After it restarted, I let it load up again, tried setting up my Google account on the device, then it froze again. All of the freezing happens within 3-5 minutes of using the phone.
So I decided to go into the bootloader, and do a factory wipe/cache wipe, and proceed without having the sim card in. I was able to get to the wifi selection screen, select my router, but as soon as the keyboard was suppose to pop up, the device froze and restarted. I am now just stuck on the welcome screen.
Any ideas now?
---------- Post added 29th November 2013 at 12:45 AM ---------- Previous post was 28th November 2013 at 11:56 PM ----------
Update: So I'm not sure what happened, but I ended up locking the device through Wug's Nexus Toolkit, inserted my sim card, and proceeded to set up the phone normally. So far everything has been working perfectly fine. I can receive/send texts, make and receive calls, and do normal functions with the phone without it locking up and restarting. Fingers crossed it'll stay like this.
Any idea on why this would've happened in the first place with the device?
---------- Post added at 01:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:45 AM ----------
Update 2: Well, I noticed that it will randomly reboot every half hour or so it seems. It's kind of random, but I'm not sure what else could be causing these random reboots. The phone itself is working fine, but I just started experiencing random restarts.

It was working fine earlier. I put it on the charger and got it to about 50%, used it for a little bit, then bam. It froze, and restarted all over again. I can use the phone maybe 5 - 10 minutes before it starts to recharge. Sometimes It'll automatically reboot after even unlocking the device.
I would do another factory reset and use it for a bit without any additional apps installed. If you are fully stock and locked with this happening I would think about possibly doing an RMA. Also just and FYI make sure you have the seller of your phone call and transfer the warrenty to you so if an RMA is needed you have the ability to do so.

I will try factory and cache wipe again, and see if that does anything with no apps or anything else installed, and go from there.

Sorry its happening. With everything stock and no third party apps or mods there to cause it at least to me things start looking like something bigger might be wrong here.

I think so too. No go after another factory wipe/cache wipe. It reboots automatically after awhile. I haven't had this kind of issue before, so I'm not sure what is causing it.

Yeah im kindof at a loss here as well. I have had those issues before but they have always been due to something I have added thats messing things up. I am interested to see if anyone else has any ideas.

I figured it would be a sim card issue since it was working for awhile without the sim, but I did the factory/cache thing without the sim card, signed on via wifi, but it still doesn't work. So I am seeing what my options are from here. Thanks for all the tips everyone.

For some reason I wasnt thinking of this earlier. Can you capture a logcat from the device after a reboot and post that here. Should help track down the problem.

I was going to try and do that earlier. I will try and do that now, but I can't even get past the bootscreen animation at this point. The 4 dots will do the animation, freeze, and just reboot.
I'll keep trying. But, I really think this is just a defective one. I had a white Nexus 5 a few weeks ago and didn't have any of these issues :crying:
Edit: My last restart the phone kept vibrating like crazy before restarting.

Honestly it sounds like it's hardware related and time for RMA. OP If you do have ADB set up grab the last_kmsg right after the reboot.
Code:
adb pull /proc/last_kmsg
I doubt it will show any kernel panic but it's worth a shot.

From the sound of it he is now not even getting far enough to be able to pull it. I also think RMA is the best option here.

Just saw that. OP by your earlier symptoms I rules out a stuck power button. With the new info I'd look into it further. If the phone is just looping over and over it could be a stuck power button, Mash the power button repeatedly for a minute. Then try and reboot. A few other people have had this on the N5 already and it's a notorious issue on some Samsung phones.

If it comes to that, how do I go about transferring the warranty over?
I feel really bad, I just don't get it. I bought two of them, the other buyer hasn't had any problems. Both brand new, sealed, in the box. Go figure.

Bricked....Over joyed

Well I was having a blast with my phone. Had it rooted and had a custom recovery installed (i believe this was my down fall). messed with the phone all day yesterday. Rebooted it several times after root and recovery installed, then went to bed. Got up and it had downloaded an OTA (assuming it was the KK) ignored the notification that it wanted a reboot. It rebooted anyways and boom....no more boot. It flashes the LG logo for a split second and thats it. Will not go into download mode. Cannot connect via ADB which also means the LGFlashTool won't work.
If anyone has any suggestions or magic powers to revive this it would be MUCH appreciated otherwise I guess I'm either sending off to LG or MobileTechVideos... haven't decided which. But figured I'd see if someone has anything that I haven't already tried....
also got it to the factory reset option and pressed enter, it said it was resetting it but..... still no go..

well if you have titanium backup pro you can freeze the software update app(in d800 its an app called software update) or you can just uninstall the app using a root browser, go to sytem/app its called lgdmsclient.apk/odex and the lgfota.apk/odex just rename them to lgdmsclient.apk.bak, the odex file lgdmsclient.odex.bak, lgfota.aok.bak and lgfota.odex/bak then reboot and you shouldn't have any more update problems(the reason for renaming to .bak is so that they cant be used but at the same time you have them backed up)
