My device is completely stock, I only rooted the skyrocket.
I really wanted to have the fancy rotation animation for whenever you change the orientation of the phone. To do that, the instructions were to replace two (.so) files in
/system/lib
with two provided from the OP in the thread. When I used ES File Explorer to replace the files, right when I pasted the files the device froze. Naturally I tried soft rebooting and that worked fine. What didn't work fine was trying to get my device to boot back up...
When I press the power button to turn the device on, the first splash screen with the non-glowing Samsung logo showed up normally. My phone then gets stuck on the glowing Samsung logo. It never reaches the rethink possible At&t boot animation. So I thought, a factory reset should do the trick.
I went into the recovery menu and factory reset the phone/ deleted all user data. I tried booting the phone again and it still gets stuck at the glowing Samsung logo.
Help? Do I need to send the device in? Am I covered by the warrenty? (I bought it in early December 2011)
Odin..

First, your in the wrong forum. These are not the skyrocket forums. If you tried flashing a file from here, that's bad news. Head over to the skyrocket forums and try posting there.
Oh sorry I thought I was posting in the Skyrocket forums....
And I didn't flash a file from this forum
There are so many Galaxy phones, easy to get mixed up
Please remove my pose from here Thanks!
Moved to Skyrocket Q&A forum...
You're soft-bricked. Easily fixed. Follow the instructions CLOSELY in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348
Most importantly, DO NOT CHECK RE-PARTITION in Odin or you will really bork your phone.
Fear not, follow the instructions carefully in that thread and you will be fine.
All went well. Clicked thanks!

Hi guys!
I'm a semi noob when it comes to all this, BUT I did thoroughly look over the forums for almost 8 hours now trying to figure all this out on my own, but now I think I may have taken a turn for the worse.
First of all I have a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant 4g. I first rooted my phone successfully using the SuperOneClick, no problem. Then I wanted to use team whiskey's Bionix Frost rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119986) which I LOVED on my other vibrant galaxy s (not 4g).
I then went to this thread to get CWM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099374) which was placed in all the right folders I believe, BUT here was when the problems started....
I did not run the update.zip file twice... I went in CWM mod (by pressing the volume buttons and power button) and then reinstalled packages and then selected the update.zip....THEN I thought I could go ahead and install the Bionix rom by selecting that zip file..
It unloaded and then went to reboot...but the screen never passed the GALAXY S 4g logo....
so back to the forums I went. I really couldn't find anything that would help except load the old firmware with odin, so I went to http://www.akaskriller.com/free/vibrantflashing1.php and followed his steps..but I think that was a bad move because these files aren't particularly for my 4g
so when I went to flash the original stock (which was 2.1) I think I really screwed it up because it said FAIL when I tried to run it through odin..
now here's the big probem:
I can't get into download mode any longer (by pressing JUST the volume buttons and then usb and then battery). I took the picture and attached it, so now what can I do?
the picture is a cellular mobile phone connected to a yellow triangle with an exclamation point connected by dots to a computer.
please please please help if you can and leave step by step instructions if possible. I would greatly appreciate it, and I know it's stressful reading these things, but I honestly have tried for 8 hours now trying to figure this out on my own, and now I'm asking the community. Thanks!
I wanted to share my knowledge and experience from the past 2 days. Most of the help came from guides and posts on this forum so I wanted to give that back.
We were trying to root the SGS4G and because we're noobs we made the mistake of thinking it was a Vibrant. Got a Vibrant ROM and tried to flash it though Odin WITH re-partition checked. Everything we read said if you do either one of these things, you will brick your phone.
Sure enough we bricked the phone. It was trying to boot into the Vibrant ROM but was getting stuck on the word 'Vibrant' and then showing a whole lot of weird colored pixels. We then learned we'd made a massive mistake and that the phone wasn't a Vibrant after all.
We got a stock ROM for SGS4G and started trying to push them through Odin. Faced countless FAILS and freezes and finally it took us to the Recovery Mode and we tried the Restore option. It booted into a crippled SGS4G ROM. When it booted, it vibrated every 10 seconds or so and it had a null IMEI and unknown baseband.
We tried following a guide that wanted to change some text in the nv_data.bin but the numbers we were meant to be editing (0018810?) didn't exist in our nv_data.bin. So that didn't work for us.
In the meantime we tried to flash the stock ROM in Odin but kept getting FAILs and Freezes. With this step we lost even the crippled operating system and couldn't reach anything except the 'phone --!-- computer' screen. Luckily, this acts the same as download mode, so not bricked. We kept trying to push the stock SGS4G stock ROM (Froyo 2.2) several times and failing.
At one point we got a completely black screen, wouldn't turn on. Bricked again. We found this post on RootzWiki and it worked for us that time and brought it back from the black screen to download mode http://rootzwiki.com/topic/1820-how-to-unbrick-your-sgs4g/
Somehow we ended up at this guide here on XDA for fixing the "null/null" IMEI http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142829
We followed that guide. When you add the PIT file it automatically checks 'Re-Partition' in Odin, we didn't uncheck it. Bricked again. It was stuck on the Samsung logo and when we tried to get to download mode it got stuck on a black screen with the loading circle/lines and 2 computers were giving 'The USB device has malfunctioned' when we plugged it in. The unbrick guide above (RootzWiki) didn't help this time. We tried restarting the computer, let the phone rest without battery for half an hour, held power button for a minute without battery, still nothing.
Finally I accidentally pressed the power button (rather than the volume buttons to get into download mode) and it went to the samsung logo (as expected) and after that I was able to get into download mode. The key to this I think is to keep on trying powering on normally then try download mode over and over and eventually it should get unstuck and the computer should recognize it again.
Once I had it back in download mode, I followed this guide again BUT!!! I made sure to un-check re-partition and I did not check "Phone EFS Clear" (because I had tried that already before it was bricked and wanted to see if a straight ROM would work first). Everything worked perfectly, I got my IMEI and Baseband back, without modifying anything.
I don't know if this was a miracle, or if any of it will work for anyone else, but the moral of the story is don't give up even if you've done the absolute worst possible thing. I don't even think hardbrick exists on this phone after everything we were able to save it from.
Cheers
Hardbricks do exist on this phone but you have to try really hard to do it. A few people have managed it. Way to stick with it and recover your phone. I've done that more times than I can count.

I didn't feel like i really hard bricked it until i saw the USB computer connection error "device pluged in malfunctioned" in more than one PC.
Then i really felt like its a hardware BIOS chipset level problem now but man...
That story cracked me up. That is exactly why I spend days reading before I even root my phone. I made the mistake one time on my old G1 and it could not be revived.
Congrats on getting it working. (especially without flooding the q&a with redundant questions that have been described in detail several places )

Thank you, thank you "i did"....Yohoooo
Yup i agree i like to read, reread then read as i do. This way i got a pretty good understanding of what I'm doing. Btw i have just started using one click and it is sooooo simple. I love it.

Im still carrying this phone, stupid baseband unlock for iphone won't come out now I am carrying 2 phones, one as an ipod touch and the galaxy s! Good story, hope it can help others, but I am prepared to jump off of this bandwagon anytime now!
I have followed instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657056
I've got KIES on my W7 machine. It runs and will connect with the Tab 2 model GT3113 that I have.
I shut down KIES and the Tab, fire up ODIN, connect the Tab and it says added. I select the recovery.tar.md5 file that I downloaded (downloaded several different times in case I got a bad download), ODIN seems to do its thing, get the green "PASSED" message and then shut down the Tab and restart it to go into recovery mode according to the instructions.
I always go back to the stock Android recovery screen. I cannot seem to get to CWM recovery.
If I try to flash the cwm-root-gtab2 file that I put on the extsdcard, I just get the red E:signature authentication failed message.
For some reason, I am not getting to first base here, that is, not even getting CWM installed.
I've searched the forum, read and re-read the instructions and reinstalled everything several times. I'm stumped.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Me too!!! Ive been over the directions 100 times and flashed cwm like 20.....its like it doesnt take. Sends me into stock recovery...
I know how its supposed work, Ive done on my fascinate countless times without a hitch.
I think we should repost this in the Q&A specifically for the GT2, I don't think anyine is going to see it here....
has anyone found a solution yet?i am having the same problem as you guys are and its getting a little frustrating.thanks
Are you sure that you flashed the true recovery.tar.md5 file for your Tab model?
sterlling6dw,
Please feel free to move this to any other part of the forum where it might get more attention.
And please, let me know if you find a solution.
Thanks.
Jim
hainlm,
I'll go back and doublecheck on the recovery file.
Like I said, I followed the directions carefully.
But as we know, computers are intolerant of the smallest mistake.
Thanks.
Jim
I definitely followed the directions right...just now I reflashed my fascinate using the same Odin and proper files...works great. Its something with the tab2. Odin sees the tablet, I get a success and reset...but when I power down and reboot into cwm, stock comes up everytime...
Help.
Also, tried this on multiple computers to rule some random USB incompatibility or other unknown issue out....
Hacked/owned:
Samsung Fascinate, Droid Bionic, Droid 2, D2G, Viewsonic G-Tablet, Micro Velocity Cruz Reader....
Solved:
See this link in the GT2 section of the forums:

Ive been trying to install CWM 6 Touch on my P5100 using this forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1881675).
Follow everything to the letter but cant get to CWM 6, instead the device boots up into stock recovery mode.
Help anyone??
Hey there, apologies in advance if I have submitted this thread in the wrong section. I really looked as hard as I could before posting.
Well I rooted my phone, got super user on there, then got clockworkmod red, and then attempted to put the ice cream sandwich mod on my phone, thats where everything went sour. Phone would not go past screen that says samsung. I tried a few times to get it to go past that point, and just nothing. I then attempted to use odin to have my phone put back, but now I cannot even get the phone to open up clockworkmod.
To put it very simply. The only thing I have access to now is the download option (holding both volume up and down while inserting the usb cable from the computer) I have searched the internet high and low for something to run through odin to put my phone back to the way it was. I keep coming up with dead links and long dead downloads. I was able to use the gtg ultimate unbrick, but all that managed to accomplish was to have my phone say at&t instead of rogers.
Im still at the screen that says samsung, with no access to a recovery menu at this point. I only have the download option.
Can anyone help me salvage my phone?
edit: I appear to have been able to reput clockworkmod back on the phone with odin. Thats all I have been able to do.
When flashing any ics Rom/port from.gingerbread/red recovery you will need to double flash...I'm seeing a lot of people.with bricks lately and I think the problem is they are not reading enough before flashing ics...
So you have cwm correct? Boot into cwm by holding volume up down and power button. If you have no roms hen go to mounts and storage and mount USB then plug it into the pc and copy over the Rom...if its gingerbread Rom.just one flash...if its ics then flash, you will get stuck on Samsung screen so boot back into cwm...you will either boot into a blue or some distorted rainbowy cwm...just reflash he Rom
If you can't do that...then idk what else to do as I don't know much about rogers phones and what is and isn't compatible with them...but u would suggest qksters heimdal one click back to stock uclb3...its always worked for me...but not sure if it will work with rogers...

Use this link/program from download mode to get to stock 2.3.6.
Wait, if you can get to download mode, you can reflash JScott's option C from here, then get into CWM red, flash the ICS of your choice, reboot into CWM blue (press and hold vol up/vol dn/power 5 seconds when stuck at sammy screen), wipe data/cache/dalvik, reboot and you should have ICS.
I understand that some people will never get "it", but reading the entire post for flashing/modding firmware is a MUST.
The other day I ended up catching a ransomware virus and figured I would just do a reset on my device. I knew I could boot to a screen allowing me to do so, but I used the wrong hard key combo and booted into the download screen and accepted to run with it before I realized what I had done. So, here I sat and saw nothing happening since I didn't have my device connected to anything and when I gave up on it, I pulled the battery. When I got home, I used my wife's phone to Google how to do a reset from bootup. "Up" volume key, not the "Down" key... oops!
So, I wiped the data, rebooted, went thru all the stuff to get all my apps back and phone working, then later in the day, my phone would just shut off like the battery was pulled. I noticed I would also lose 4G with the symbol showing "no service" then it would shut off then, as well.
So now, I'm figuring that I corrupted something when I tried booting the phone the wrong way the first time.
I've tried Odin, the wrong file for my phone (PDA one), found and downloaded the correct one and tried that, the .pit file for the partition, read a bunch of stuff on here and another forum in order to fix my phone... to the best of my understanding, it's only been soft-bricked.
On the download screen:
Product Name: SCH-I605
Current Binary: Samsung Official (used to say "Custom" after the first attempt to flash)
System Status: Custom (I'm guessing it should be something else)
??? RP SWREV: A3 (Best guess as to what this says)
KIES_HOME_I605VRAMC3_I605VZWAMC3_1098177_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 is the most recent file I've tried using on Odin for the PDA (AP) tab. The program (flashing?) runs damn near all the way thru then fails at sboot.bin. Now when I turn on the phone, it says something about Kies and recovery. Kies will not connect to my phone via cable, and since I can't get the phone to boot at all, other than in download mode, I'm stuck!
Please help me!
Oh, and most of the files I've looked for online have taken me to some way out sites the had me download executable files that want me to install everything under the sun and still not give me the file I originally sought out. I'm hoping someone out there might have the files I need to fix my phone and would be willing to share them with me!
I may be a noob, but I have some experience with technical matters. I'm honestly in unfamiliar territory here though!
Thanks in advance!
