Vonage Mobile is a new VoIP application, which has recently arrived on the Android Market. The app is supposed to compete with Skype and according to it’s creators, it provides 30% cheaper conversations in 50 countries, based on the per-minutes rates + free international mobile calls (device-to-device).
For those of you playing along at home, here is a quick feature recap:
•Free domestic and international calls and texts to anyone with the Vonage Mobile app.
•When calling a landline or phone directly, you get international calling with per-minute rates averaging 70% less than major mobile carriers and 30% less than Skype.
•In-app credit purchases are tied directly to your Android Market account.
•Inviting multiple people right from your address book via SMS or email is easy.
•Vonage Mobile automatically identifies contacts who already have the app.
•Your mobile number double as your caller ID (so your friends won’t be surprised by an unfamiliar app-assigned number)
•Works on Wi-Fi and 3G/4G worldwide.

Is there a way making Vonage Mobile app installed and setting on Wifi only tablet. Mine is HTC Evo VIEW 4G. Installed the app with the help of forum member. But while setting up account, it is giving an error "There is a problem activating your account. Please visit Vonage Support at http://support.vonage.com for assistance". Could you suggest me any workarounds for this.
Thanks,
-KP
I have the same problem - used the instructions offered above to download the app from mediafire but can't get it to register on my plain vanilla HTC Flyer (wifi only). I have it working on an iPad, an iPod Touch, an old HTC Evo 4g (wifi only now) and on my active Droid Bionic. Would be nice to be able to make calls from any device I happen to be using at the time.
Can someone help me with the APK plz. I live in china and this will be super useful for me !! app is blocked here in play store for download.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The work scheme of VoipNow implies that the client receives an incoming call to your phone. Since this incoming call is free, client pays only connection according on VoipNow rates.
The essence of services is as follows: Client to commit call must first send a request to the provider indicating the phone number on who wants to make a call. System will call back to call order person. Request from a client comes by sending a secure request via the Internet, so for the correct operation is necessary Internet connection (GPRS, EDGE or WiFi). Upon receiving a request, the operator makes a call back to the client. Having taken on my phone call, the customer hears a prompt to wait for the call.
HOW TO CALL?
When you register, you will immediately receive a $ 2 per account, so you can call friends just now, and appreciate quality and low cost of the call. This is especially true for long-distance and international calls - the price may be lower by several times, compared to conventional cellular phone!
You must install the latest version from Android Market.
Provide a telephone number, email and password.
Dial outbound number and wait for an incoming call.

Hi all
I just got a message from my friend that he recieved an update yesterday night from Asus for his TF-101G which he bought from taiwan. Apparently the update had a sms system, and he is able to use it to sms to a phone. not whatsapp or viber but through gsm network.
I was wondering if it is able to integrate with our wifi Transformer "rooted" with 3G dongle installed. As previously I tried to activate whatsapp, and the sms got sent over into my dongle, thus activating whatsapp. The current dongle I am using is the huawei e1550, and specs shows that there is GSM radio installed inside.
Was wondering if anyone is interested to follow up?
Thanks.

Not having a G-variant, i am lazy. I just run TexTab on my phone and ASUS, and use that for texting. Very useful as well since that gives me the same number and the thread is for view on the phones SMS app - perfect for having to go away from Tablet.
TexTab basically uses the phone via Bluetooth for texting goodness.
why not just text with google voice through wifi? It's much easier and works out of the box. Plus you can save all your texts and it syncs your conversations with your phone and web browser, which I think makes it much more useful.
Well I currently do not have access to a google voice account at the moment, was considering if sms is viable why not use it?

Give or take limitations once you go past sitting in the USA and texting other people in the USA, you can only send like 150 texts per contact within so many hours, unless it's done via forwarding through a real cellphone. From what I could tell, the Android app has the same limitation as the web interface.
I found this out because the first month my fiancee and I were texting, we exchanged almost 10,000 SMS, and still average like 7,000+ .
[Post updated to point to latest version on Android Market]
Hi XDA community!
Our first app PhoneLeash is on the Android Market (free).

I like to call it the "misplaced phone app" since its meant for the more common occurrence of your phone simply not being near you, rather than being stolen.
PhoneLeash has features for finding your lost phone (or at least confirming where you think you left it) while also letting you know who is calling/texting meanwhile. Its not trigger happy (yet!) about wanting to wipe all the data the minute you see your phone isn't with you
We are trying to get the right balance of features, here is what we have now:
GPS locating
SMS/missed call forwarding to email or phone
Reply to SMS
Low battery alert
Remote ring
Privacy (no website tracking your phone)
Battery life -- after all you won't be using these features much of the time, so why have features that constantly drain your battery.
Unique feature - With PhoneLeash you can (remotely) reply to an SMS, and it goes out from your phone - the other side simply cannot tell the difference. While new and unique, we want to make sure we keep it simple to use. Speaking of simplicity, all of PhoneLeash fits in 1-2 spartan screens.
We've tested with Go SMS, Handcent to make sure PhoneLeash works with their default settings. PhoneLeash can also forward to HeyWire SMS numbers as well.
We found out that some tablets (Galaxy 8.9) do SMS but no telephony, so those are supported now as well.
If you can give it a try, we'll be very thankful. And ask for features - maybe they'll happen!
Thanks!

Here is a link and some screencaps of the new features in v 1.5
I am not a Twitter-user (tweeter?) but just used PhoneLeash to send in my first tweet from my phone. Sent this SMS from Google Voice to my PhoneLeash-ed phone-- "40404 here's a random tweet"--and by magic it showed up in my Twitter account!
on i 9000?
Is it available on samsung galaxy i 9000?
Very cool. I will test it out soon.

Hello all,
I just released a free application/service that forwards your SMS messages to e-mail addresses you define, and also sends responses back when you reply to the received e-mails (coming from your own number). Etext uses Google's Cloud 2 Device Messaging (C2DM) to notify your phone without polling every x minutes, hence the Android 2.2 requirement. It's designed so that it can actually replace the default SMS application's notifications, and to be able to reply to incoming messages from any device that's able to receive e-mail, no matter where you are.
The application is brand new on the market, so it would be great if the XDA community could give it a try. Screenshots and a more thorough description can be found on the Android Market (or should I say Google Play). Below is a link, and a QR code that you can scan on your device. If you have any questions or suggestions you can always post here or e-mail me!

Hey!
Did a quick test this and it works well Will do more tests soon.
Was wondering what the real purpose is. I mean ... wouldn't SMS be more reachable than emails given that for email a net connection is necessary, while it is not necessary for SMS?
I'll be using this to have a record of my messages in my mail and occasionally to save a wee bit on my message bills!

It bugged me that I couldn't receive SMS messages or reply to them when I was using my tablet (or any other device for that matter). That's basically why I started working on the application. It worked pretty well for myself, so I decided to implement C2DM and release it on the market. A plus is that I can now search for a name on GMail and get the text messages as well.
