HI Everyone,
i am so new to the andriod system, and coming from my nokia my life is rather difficult atm. I am after 2 things 1 x when i recive an sms i always have to drag the the notification bar down to get the sms, is there an app that when i get an sms or miss a call it syncs with my led notification and pops up on my screen so i just need to tap it away i go to see the missed call or sms?
and 2 is there an app to replace that stupid mediascape ? so i can view my galleries of movies and pictures better ? that mediascape is so crappy it drives me up the wall.
i have unbrabded X10a
firmware 1.6 Build number R2BA026 rooted phone that i managed to do yesterday. thanks for the help in advanced.
For your sms try downloading handcent sms from the market.
I haven't found a gallery app that gives me photos AND videos but if you wanted something better looking for photos try just pictures app also from the market.

HI thanks for the relply angie i will look into those apps.
I am ok with the mediascape, with the upgrade of Android 2.1, the speed for the mediascape should be improved.

If you don't want to install an entire sms program like handcent you can download sms popup from the market. You'll still use the default sms app(which i think is pretty nice) but it will give you a popup that you can reply/close/delete directly from.

oh that is perfect that is what i want. i will look into that one. thanks heaps.
btw when is the new release of 2.1 coming out?
Well, I dont have mms but when I go over my limit for sms, its converts it into mms. I my stock eclair 2.1 it would make a second sms message and send each out seperately, how do i get mine to do that...? If you i use go sms pro, the person that recieves a message longer than one page long gets **** like #$%#$%#$% Im on the superclean rom for the showcase.
Kind of lost me with your wordage but if you want to use GO SMS, under Send Settings in GO SMS check the box for splitting up long SMS messages. It should then send them as multiple SMS and not convert it to MMS.
If you're saying you've tried that and people are getting screwed up messages, then try another SMS application, such as Handcent.
I have the same problem with long messages coming in like garbage but I am just using the SMS messaging that came with the phone.
I have Showcase, Froyo, pnp v3
Yeah +2 for GO SMS, it is great and can fix your problems.

How did you remove the stock messaging icon from the bottom of the screen?
Is there a way with a rooted s off phone running cm7.0.3.1 to get support for iPhone emoji? I don't care about typing them, I just want to view them

iphone sucks.
IPhone does suck, I agree. But its annoying to see a bunch of boxes

you can install handcent for your messaging app and then install the handcent emoji plugin and can view/send them
Ahhh. Ok, I already have handcent. Ill get that. Thanks a bunch. Any way to extend that to other programs?

No Prob, I don't know of any way to extend it. Would be cool though
Go for GoSMS. It's the best sms app for Android. It has plugin for Emoji plus sms folders.
+1 for GoSMS
as for extending it you can try using the UOT Kitchen to make a theme, you pick which elements of the theme you want or don't want, and I know emoji is an option. not sure what they have though cause I like the stock Android ones. hope this helps.
If you're rooted, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690781 for a way to get black-and-white emoji fonts.
Emoji Handcent Help
So i have handcent and plugin installed i can see the emoji send to me from iphones but they can't see what i send. I have tried to send as MMS and SMS only VZW Iphone can see them as MMS anyone have a solution or possible better app/program ... please help!!!
Just curious, I'm a heavy texter and the stock messaging doesn't really work for me. I downloaded Handcent, and it seems to do the job fine. But what messaging apps do you guys use?
And is there a way to download the stock vanilla Android messaging apk found on Nexus Ones, G2's etc?
I'm using stock right now, works OK for me although I haven't really explorer too many other apps. When I first got my infuse I used chomps sms which is just like bites for iphone. Quick reply and compose are the 2 things I really like.

Only other alternative to stock I've tried is go SMS pro. Its pretty good but as a preference I run stock with the android keyboard.

Been using handcent since i started using android... U can customize jus abt everything, including each specific txt thread, to ur liking. The main feature i use it for, however, is the ability to lock the txt messages (both handcent & stock) it so has the quick reply which is cool...
message from Sams inFuse... GINGERBREAD *****ES!!!!
I'm also using chomp SMS. I came from iPhone and had bitesms installed. Chomp is made by the same company as bite, so a lot of the features are similar. Quick reply and compose are my favorites. The lock screen notification isn't as good as bite for iphone, but its tolerable.

Google Voice.
Handcent is pretty good but I went back to using the default messaging app. Just a lot less laggy imo.

Same here. Havent tried any others. Got used to "bite" on the iphone and so gave chomp a try. Always big on the custom text tones for specific contacts. Sure its not the only one with it. But i was used to it so went with it.
I tried of them out last night and ended up deleting all of them. The resolution of the apps were all terrible and did not look good on this super amoled plus screen. Sorry but that bugged me lol.

I use GO SMS Pro
I have try Stock, Chomp, Go SMS Pro, and Handcent. Go SMS Pro by far the best looking and best working SMS application IMO. For those using Handcent check out Go SMS Pro almost the same editing wise but slicker looking.
I use Go SMS Pro and love it. Didn't care for Chomp SMS as much as I did BiteSMS on iPhone.
I'm also using Go SMS Pro. The only downside is if you receive multiple images in a single message, they just show on a single page and you can't save them for Gallery viewing (at least as far as I can tell, lol). In that specific scenario, I switch over to the default Messaging app.
Haven't tried any other apps. The one feature I really like about Go SMS is the Private message box, not sure if that is available in other apps. You can also schedule messages, kind of neat for "texting in sick" early in the AM before the boss-man is awake (and can reply)
Go SMS does not appear to be able to show texts on the lock screen, but I always disabled that feature in iOS so not a concern for me.
Im running cm 7x now but really miss the sms client. I love how it showed your recent people when you went to do a new sms or mms.
Is there a zip to install it over top of cm's?
Tia

No because MIUI is closed source just like HTC sense is.
I can't remember if it had that exact feature but go sms is pretty similar to the stock miui sms app.
