I just got my phone back from a phone reaire store because my screen was cracked but i have noticed that the home menu back and search buttons are very dim and you almost cannot see the lights even in a dark room, what could the problem be? maybe led slid a little bit after they reassemled it?How can i fix it? I have had to bring it back to the store # times and they gave me my money back and the screen is fixed but would like this problem resolved?
If I recall, the lights are actually on the capacitance buttons. Could be a defective overlay on the screen, adhesive misplaced when removing or installing the new screen, or I guess they could be failing. You would have to tear it back apart to see what the issue actually is.
Okay thanks for your reply...I already know where the buttons are so I think I will just leave them

So, a few days ago i received my xperia arc s housing in the mail from ebay, So the next thing i do is replace the housing and put it back together, Its all working but i notice the back button not working, open the phone up again and mess around a bit while the battery was still in the phone, but then the screen stopped working, and i just put it back together cause i couldn't do anything about it. The touch screen works but it doesn't not display anything, i can start up the phone and unlock the screen and feel the vibrations but the display is really dim, like if i take a flashlight and put it over the screen, i can see everything but when i take the flashlight away i cant see anything, The LEDs near in the home buttons are not working either. What some one did suggest is that the chip that controls the LED's are at fault and damaged. Any other suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thank You
Hello. Basically I need to know are the Touch-Capacitive buttons on the Skyrocket part of the screen or a separate part altogether? Can they be replaced? My friend gave me the phone and it works just fine it's just that before he gave it to me he accidentally dropped it in water so the only issue I have is the buttons will stop working at random times. The screen still functions just fine but the buttons will not respond whatsoever. They'll still light up but I cannot press them. Thank you for your time.

Use lmt launcher or a rom with PIE or nav bar built in. No need for capacitive buttons anymore. Cheaper than replacement too.

I think I saw somewhere awhile back that the capacitive buttons are actually separate from the screen itself. You can look up a teardown on Google though to confirm it.

Capacitive buttons are indeed separate. Replacing them without damaging the screen can be tricky, though.
I'd clean the main board of the phone and the connectors.
Hi! Two days ago, my phone dropped in water , i put them immediately in rice until today. When start it with the power button, i felt the vibration and i hear the open sound. But the screen remains black... but i discover that it was just the backlight because when i watch the screen under a lamp i can see the interface and slide between pages... but its very dark. Is it possible to change this backlight? or just wait few other days to allow time to dry fully. I welcome your suggestions! thanks

When there's water involved, IT's hard to know exactly what damaged. Could be just stain on the ribbon connectors, a burned fuse/diode/resistor (all of them micro sized) etc.. or just the LCD's backlight damaged entirely.
Keep it on rice for more time. I would make the battery to discharge to 0%, But it's also more recommended to keep the phone OFF. Only my friend LUCK knows.
To change the backlight, the whole screen needs to be changed.
Backlight died on me. Possible moisture.
First, it was on boot loop (on stock rom)
i went to restart it (holding power button and volume down)
then the screen turned bright white, restarted it and then the backlight died, dismantled the phone, now still in rice, also happened on 2nd April.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Took it apart down to the Screen (not the screen layers), left it in rice, works like a brand new now. Cheers.
I just replace all the frame and lcd for a new on my nexus 5, but the problem was still there... no backlight, i can see a little bit the screen, but it's very dark... do you have any idea for try to repair this, because now i don't think that it's the screen but more a motherboard or power problem for the backlight :S
exactly same problem here
nexus 5 phone dropped in water.
Backlight went out permanently - rice didn´t help.
Can see the display working using a flashlight - so rest of the phone seems to be working ok.
Just pruchased a new screen, put it all in and still the same problem: display works, touch works, backlight is off.
So it seems the backlight part of the display receives no power - anybody has an idea how to fix that?
thanks
I have answer to this!
I have had this problem like 3 months now and i finally fixed it.
Basically what i did was that i bought a broken nexus 5 (only the screen glass was broken) and tried to swap every part one by one. The one that was not working was the main dock!
It is a cheap fix, like 10£ on Ebay.
I am writing this post because anyone else haven't.
I hope that someone sees this.
I now copy this message to all other threads so people can fix their nexus 5's
PS:as you can probably tell English isn't my first language.
Hello! I am having the same problem. The cell phone fell to the floor and the next day the problem began. The display is not broken.
What are you taking about when you say "main dock"? Motherboard aka mainboard?
Thanks!
The front face buttons dont work, just under the touch screen, the home button, settings, back, go and enter button, right at the bottom of the base. not the slide out keyboard. I have rebooted the phone several times, if I slide out the keyboard I cant use the buttons under the screen. yet my slide out keyboard buttons work just fine. i hope its not dead and its time for a new phone because I only like phones with keyboards, I hate touch screen keys. Do I have to buy a replacement part and is it hard to repair yourself?
If it helps anyone I also noticed that the center or enter key is red but if you look closely at it, its always on it just wont turn off like it used too, and now Im getting prompts that read superuser has been denied. I dont understand why I havent done anything or updated anything. not sure if I should flash the rom again and start over its been working fine the last 8 or so months all of a sudden its been acting up today
There is a small ribbon that connects those buttons, more than likely this is all you need to replace and you should find it for 10$ or less on eBay
Disassembly is easy except for getting to the LCD (which you need to do) just need a hair dryer to loosen the sticky on the back of LCD and be careful taking it off so not to damage LCD, the rest is simple
Best of luck

Hi,
I have this really weird stuff going on with my Nexus 5 screen. I cracked it a couple months ago and bought a legit replacement screen for it and installed it myself (glass, lcd and frame). I fixed it with good instructions and it worked properly for two months. However though, now when I take it out of a pocket and try to turn screen on, sometimes it just doesn't light up. It's still on and every button works but the screen doesn't turn on. I have to give it a light tap or two on the back in order to make it light up again. Same thing happens sometimes when I'm using the phone normally, the screen just goes black and goes on after tapping it couple of times. Otherwise the phone works normally like it did when I bought it two years ago and after running couple of tests with screen, everything seems to work from touch interface to the graphics card.
Tried looking it up, no results.
I've noticed that the front camera doesn't work for some reason (probably just broken) and the battery lasts in use only 2-4 hours which isn't that much of an issue since I'm looking for a new phone. I just want this one to last long enough till I buy a new one.
It comes up when tapping the screen or power button? It could be a power button issue.
The screen comes back on when tapping the screen or the back of the phone. The power button isn't the issue. The screen just goes black but nothing else happens. It doesn't turn off or go to sleep mode.
Strange issue. I've never experienced it and any problems I had were related to the power button.
Could it be a loose connection inside the phone? Maybe an issue related to the proximity sensor?
Thats actually what I've thought. I have checked the phone's insides twice and didn't see loose connections, and the problem feels like it's related to proximity sensor since the screen going black happens exactly same way that when calling someone or doing something else where proximity sensor shuts the screen. It's really weird though...
Huh, I took backplate off and unscrewed the motherboard cover and took everything apart and rebuilt it and now the problem is gone. Seems like there was just some bad connection somewhere.
Glad you got it to work without having to pay someone to fix it
