I was having trouble trying to flash back to the orig sprint ruu. After toying around, I finally got it to flash completely, only thing is...it still had the METRO banner. I ignored it.
So I hit the search bar and was looking for the best way to root it. Several options came up, I clicked one, and proceeded. Now, after trying to restart the phone, it will not boot at all, it wont go into recovery, all it was doing was flashing a steady orange light. After unplugging and replugging for a few hours, now all it does is just flash a blinking orange light.
I tried to use the ruu flash again on the pc, it gets to the point where it says the img version: version-main FAILED (status read failed (Too many links)). I select to update the current Rom version and it just hangs.
Here is why Im having these issues. I used this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996 which isnt even for the shift, its for a damn htc glacier mytouch. I never browse for other phones except the evo, but i was taken there from the search while I was inside the shift sub-forum. A mistake that could have been prevented if only I didnt trust the search bar that it would stay within the "shift" sub-forums. Feck, Feck, FECK!!!
Then, i went here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010397&highlight=bricked to figure a way to unbrick it, everybody is saying this guy need a new battery. I doubt that will help my cause.
Right now, my epic is activated? Should I switch the shift on that line, and take it in to the sprint store? Swapping phones on sprintpcs.com just involve adding in meid numbers thats on the phone only, or do the phone need to be on (booted up) to add more numbers? Never done it and just trying to figuer out my best option here? Or is there any other way I can atleast get the shift to boot so i can reflash the ruu?
Congrats you successfully truely bricked your phone. There is no way to recover from it. That sucks dude.

TRUE BRICK? thats not what I wanted to hear. By using the flash ruu, doesnt my phone needs to be turned on? Or that doesnt matter?
Im hoping that since its all software based modifications that was made, then it should be as simple as re-writing those software/programming mods?
Head to the irc stickied at the top of the page. If anyone can help you it will be there but I wouldn't hold out hope.

I'd activate it and go to Sprint. Don't tell them what happened. They'll just order you a new one if you have insurance and if not you'll have to pay $35.
See if you can find a charged battery for a Shift, TouchPro2, Hero, or original Evo and pop that in, it's worth a try. I know someone else with the flashing orange light was able to fix their phone by using a new battery.

That's what I'd do. But they might charge you the deductable ($100) . Just be sure to under no circumstance tell them you did it. Hell if it's truely bricked just tell them you dropped it in water. That way they don't even check it. But, remember that's just my opinion .
If you are using the dropping it in water method make sure you do get the battery wet as there is an indicator on the batteries to see if the phone has been wet. It's a paper strip and will turn pink when it has been in water...

Eek a true brick. That's scary as hello. I rooted via visionary and the dd method. I've only heard of bricks but never saw one first hand.

i have never had to pay a deductible for a defective phone. almost every single phone i have had has had some issue that i havent been happy with, sprint has either replaced or repaired it at no cost to me. so dont get it wet, just take it in and tell them it cut out during a call or something, and now you cant turn it back on. done and done, you'll have your replacement.
I bought this phone from this guy and when I turn it on it plays the windows 7 video demo like you would see at the store. It is filled with all kinds of calendar crap from a dummy account and I cant get rid of any of it. How do I reinstall the software or is this phone only a demo and now I cant use it? Every time I reset the phone all those fake messages and calendar stuff come back.
You could try flashing a new firmware (if you can find one).
What tools are available to do that right now? Preferably for
A mac but either way is fine
Htc Inspire 4G
....try a hard-reset and then when asked, skip the demo function....
Has that worked before? And how go I do a hard reset? I just got this phone
Htc Inspire 4G
I've done the reset under the"about phone" area and it didn't fix it
Htc Inspire 4G
....could it be you bought a demo phone....? check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829537
Sounds like you got a demo phone, and if you have, you should be contacting the person you bought it from and have them give you a phone that wasn't a store demo (and unfortunately, worst case scenario, was stolen).
Otherwise, you're going to have to find a ROM that fits your phone, and you would need to install it. Instructions on how to do this are everywhere, so give Google a try and it shouldn't be too hard.
Thanks for all the help. If I install a rom to fix it will I still get OTA updates?
Htc Inspire 4G
It's a demo phone. Most likely stolen. I don't think there is a ROM for the HD7S yet. I don't think the HD7 ROMs will work. You can try to get it to work, probably brick it, or, I don't know, return the stolen merchandise and get your money back.

I wanted to start a thread for those of us that have bricked our Sensation by formatting the SD card while using a AOSP style or AOKP ROM.
Let's use this thread to collaborate ideas and ways to possibly un-brick our devices.
What we know
-Formatting the SD card in past versions of AOSP and AOKP caused the device to "brick" due to possibley reformatting the NAND memory or at least the eMMC partition.
-Our devices are unresponsive and are only recognized by a PC in "download mode"
-AOSP and AOKP ROMs did brick the devices. Instead of formatting the external SD card, it formatted the internal SD card or what is more commonly known as NAND flash memory of the device(Thanks to T-Macgnolia for this explination)
-Only hope may be to try JTAG and RIFF box.
So let's try a think tank and see what happens. If you have any experience with JTAG and RIFF Box PLEASE put in your 2cents.
I am willing to tear my Sensation apart and go at it with a RIFF box since I just ordered a Galaxy Nexus from Google.
I will start researching JTAG and RIFF tonight, but I figured some one should start a thread like this to clear up the HTC Unbricking Project thread.
You got two thanks from me for this, one here and one in the Unbricking Project thread in the development forum. I am like you I can see this subject clogging up the Unbricking Project thread, so this is a good idea here if members will just use it.
Now as for how to revive devices that fall victim to the awful bug that was in the AOSP and AOKP ROMs. I truly hate that such a bad bug was not noticed before so many had fallen victim to it. I also hope someone or a group of someones can come up with a working solution. But from my knowledge JTAG will more than likely be the only option to revive these devices. I hope I am wrong though. Best of luck to all of you.
I don't know much about JTAG at this point, but if it's the only way I'm willing to go for it and share my experience. As it stands now, my Sensation is just a nice expensive paper weight, so I'm not afraid to tear it down
Well best advice I can do is tell you to start eoing searchs on Youtube. Here is a link to the only video I have found on the Sensation so far. You will need to try to find s video that shows the tear down process that will get you to the point the video I linked shows. But at least the video shows the proper way to attach the JTAG and external power supply. I suggest you aleo see if you can not get in touch with josh from Mobile Tech Videos as I know he can give you some very sound advice on JTAGing a Sensation, or just about any other device for that matter. He is known as connexion2005 here on XDA. It also might not hurt to drop ole AdamOutler a PM asking if he has any advice or input.
well im in this boat with my bricked sensation xe, im taking my phone upto http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/ on wednesday to get it jtaged with the riff box.
but on some good news, if you read the updates on the riffbox it says it can jtag a htc phone via usb (without opening it) but you need a riffbox plugged in to open the software... so if someone could make a hack to open the software without the box connected you might be able to flash the phone
http://www.jtagbox.com/
Guys,
I'm going to RMA my phone with HTC (i got the SD card brick format issue with AOSP)
Assuming the whole of the internal memory got wiped - HTC cannot tell anything can they? So they should repair it with no hassle?
Any advice is appreciated.
just for those of us that are new has this bug been fixed?? as it seems like a pretty big deal. also jupuntobear deals with the sensation devices in download mode to do its s-off so maby they know a way to flash the firmware back onto it?? some sort of homebrew usb/jtag kit maby?
I want to confirm that jtag solution works ... I bricked my phone and now its back to life
I am not the one who actually done the jtagging thing, I will ask him to post a tutorial here on how to do it step by step ...

Hello pplz,
I just wanted to let you know about my story:
I had lots of unused crap that was left behind by different ROMs and APPLICATIONs on my sd card, so I used this app called SD MAID.
Then when my phone's battery dead that day, the phone turned off and I could never revive it...
I had AOKP rel 34, the one just before milestone 5.
SO probably that was the cause of the brick.
BE CAUTIOUS with any kind of sd card related app on AOSP/AOKP!!

I Don't think your Device is bricked...i saw somewhere that sometimes or maybe in some ROMs, when you used up full juice of your Battery, it usually takes time to start..i am obviously not sure if i am right, i just read that quickly and ignored it because i never consume the Battery till it goes to 0% and phone turns off...by the way i think this SD CARD Format doesn't cause bricking in Virtuous Inquisition? it's also AOSP..Although senseless..but maybe some files could be used in V.I As well which causes this.i don't have PC..So my Sensation fullfils my PC Needs (Almost)..so definitely cannot fancy tearing my phone a part...
It seems like JTAG w/ RiffBox is the only way....boooooo.
Does anyone have or know someone with a box, or at least where to get one???

I don't really know what happen to Alipk52's Sensation. But I can tell you this, the bug that was in the AOSP and AOKP ROMs did brick the devices. Instead of formatting the external SD card, it formatted the internal SD card or what is more commonly known as NAND flash memory of the device. Now with the internal memory formatted this means you have no bootloader which means the device can not boot, which means brick. So yes the SD card format bug did cause bricking.
Hi!

The problem you had was not the one described in this thread, and I would put money on him not using JTAG on it at all. I find that often if I let my phone battery die completely it will not turn back on, even if I leave it on charge.
I have to charge it up a bit, unplug it, turn it on, then plug it back in again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205983
i think this guy was on to something. if we could create a generic copy of the sensation using this program, with imei and other sensitive things removed and then flash it back using that program. thoughts?
I would just like to offer my Sensation as a sacrifice to the cause. It's bricked either because of the AOKP SD brick or failure to update to the ICS radio before upgrading from 2.3 to 4.0.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk 2
Not updating the firmware only causes bootloops, not a brick.
You'll know if it's proper bricked as it wont even charged.
This is going to be long!
If anyone has insight to this would be appreciated
Precursor: I am on CM9 nightly (7-27-12) with 6.0.1.0 non touch recovery (NS4G)
So last night I go to open my opera web browser and it would flash like it would open and instant close (no error message). I say OK thats weird and decide to reboot. Upon rebooted I am greeted with never ending amount of FC's from every app and service imaginable. I again say OK EXTREMELY weird and decide its time to restore my backup from yesterday.
I reboot in recovery and what do I get greeted with? Unable to mount /sdcard! Long story short after scouring google for about an hour I find that if I do a fastboot oem lock/unlock I should get back up and running. Thankfully that works and I install the newest 7/31 CM9 nightly.
I wake up today without my phone alarm going off when it should. Weird huh? I go to open the clock and get a FC from the clock application. Reboot and it works just fine. OK weird again.
Go to work and leave my phone on the counter to help a customer. I come back to the desk and my phone is in recovery mode? Uhhh what? I reboot the phone and it says "encryption unsuccessful" and the phone needs to wipe data and reboot to continue use...
I decide WTF why not, not like I can use it. At this point I'm worried though. The phone reboots to recovery and I guess does a data wipe (takes 3-5 mins) and reboots. Now I am stuck on the CM9 bootscreen and won't go past.
I have some ideas as to get the phone (hopefully) back up and running. Just curious what this sounds like to anyone more knowledgeable then me (especially the part where it tried to encrypt my phone without me touching it!)
Any thoughts or help is appreciated!
Edit: I tried copying files to sdcard from recovery using mount usb storage. The files copy over and as soon as I leave the mount menu and go to install the zip files WHICH I SAW ON THE SDCARD they ARE NOT THERE anymore.
Edit2: It still lets me install the CM9 7/31 nightly which I had saved on the phone yesterday. Even after wiping everything and reinstalling the ROM I can't get past the CM9 bootscreen
Edit3: Tried fastboot, odin, nothing works. Even after odin I still get the CM9 boot screen. Pretty sure something is messed up to the point of I need a new phone. FML!
YESS!!!
YES I WANT ATTENTION.
I Have exactly the same. Mother of smartphones Somebody help us!
Its the internal Memory thats messed up yes, But Please somebody fix this Bullcrap. We don't have the knowledge but I will gladly donate to you who fixes it!
I just bought a brand new screen for my phone and I don't freaking want to buy a new Phone At the moment, So if you find a way to help us then let us know since that could be lifesaving right now.

I HAD THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM
Temporary solution: heat the phone up with a hair blow dryer. get it hot but not so hot that it melts things. it will be able to boot up and work. I used this method so i could copy my sd card to my computer and wipe everything off
Permanent solution: turn your phone in for repair. there is no remedy to fixing this. apparently the circuit board or chip is bad and you can't fix it.
Luckily I had best buy black tie protection and I am waiting on my new replacement phone.

It wouldn't matter who actually makes a chip if the heating it up is a temporary fix. That is a OEM issue. Basically think xbox360 rrod with the warped boards the solder melting/failing and the chips get loose etc.
Unless heating up failed flash storage temporarily makes it work. Which I doubt is the case but don't actually know. Brings back memories of putting failing HDD drives in the freezer though.

Unfortunately that is good only if software screwed up your phone. In my case and I'm sure others when it is hardware failure, that won't work :\
I recently bought a Samsung Blaze from my friend who upgraded to an Iphone 5 for $50.
I really enjoyed the phone, but being the autist I am I couldn't handle the bloaty pink addons that tmobile had provided. In addition I had numerous prompts about how my phone couldn't complete wireless calling due to my dated prepaid sim card.
I decided to use keyes to upgrade to ICS, which provided no new differences.
I then decided to go to my local library to root my phone on a windows machine.
During my first attempt I was rushed, and ended up soft bricking my phone.
My second attempt was sucessfull in rooting and installing the clockwork mod.
I tried downloading liquid smooth and installing it, like a moron ( i assumed all roms would work with any device considering that I really couldn't find a specific set of roms for the device). I ended up hard bricking it.
Now, what do I do?
Can I go to tmobile and play dumb, despite the fact that I do not have a contract with them and just a prepaid sim? Would they offer a replacement even without a receipt (its got TMOBILE plastered all over the front in that respect).
or
Should I just play dumb with Samsung? Say that my power went out when installing ICS on kies and my phone wont turn on? Will they send me a refurbished one?
or should I just sent it here mobiletech videos .mybigc om merce.co m/s amsung-gala xy-blaze-4g-jt ag-bric k-repa ir/
It might be nice to have it unlocked and rooted, and I guess I could have them install a rom I want in that event.
Any insights are much appreciated.
I've hard-bricked my Blaze once. All I did was send it back(not in store) and get a new replacement one.. As some people suggested, have you tried getting in download mode? ROMs as you've learned don't work with any device. That's why we have a separate forum for our device . Which LiquidSmooth did you use? In the Dev forum(for the Blaze) we have a LiquidSmooth ROM..
Neither T-Mobile nor Samsung are obligated to replace the phone for a number of reasons, but you could give calling them a try if all else fails. Samsung might be willing to replace it if it has been less than a year since it was purchased, but my experience with them is that they wont honor a warranty without a receipt if you're not the original owner.
First try getting the phone into download mode and using ODIN to reflash the stock rom tar, following the directions of course: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591601

To specify, it is not reacting to any button presses at all. The soft brick that I previously did just made it freeze at the tmobile spash screen, which I fixed by returning to stock.
I cannot currently turn on the phone, nor get it to download mode. I will not indicate if it is charging, and plugging it into the computer brings up "improppertly removed media" prompts on my computer screen.
I only have osx and linux, so I kind of rushed when the library was closing and downloaded a stable version of liquid smooth, turned on usb storage on my phone, then launched the zip file from clockwork rom manager, just as some random web page told me to.
When you said you returned it back, did you mean tmobile or samsung? Did they ask for receipt or for your sim card to still be in the device; or did they just take it and give you a new one because it was clearly marked as a tmobile device?
