[Q][Answered] MZ602 ROMs Compatible with MZ600? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm going to be obtaining a Xoom MZ600 soon, and I'm trying to do some homework ahead of time for rooting it. It seems like there are ROMS for ICS for MZ601, 602, 604 but nothing for MZ600.
From what I understand, it seems like the 602 and 600 are roughly the same tablet. The 600 is "upgradeable" to 4g, while the 602 includes 4g. I'm not sure what they mean by upgradeable, I'm guessing a software update?
The major question here is whether or not I can use an ICS ROM for the MZ602 with the MZ600. A thread I read did say the 600 software wasn't compatible with the 602, but it wasn't very specific. Does that mean it wasn't the same to begin with, but it's the same tablet so newer ROMS won't be a problem? Does that mean that there's some incongruity that won't let 602 software work on a 600?
Just confused is all, I wasn't able to find a clear post about it.

Best I can tell so far, you can bring your MZ600 to Verizon to have it upgraded to work with their LTE network.
...That still doesn't help me figure out if a 602 ROM is compatible with 600. One post made it seem like an MZ600 owner was running an MZ604 ROM. Another post said this would break it. I guess in what way? If I only care about the WiFi radio, is there really a problem installing a 604 ROM over the 600?

There is always the Universal Root - (if this was an issue) ... Anywho-
Per their website - the specs between the MZ600 & MZ602 are identical.
I'm not sure if Motorola does any MZ600 ROM Tweaks while the 4G LTE Upgrade is in progress to MZ602. We know for sure, that there is a New Modem. Why install the MZ604 ROM on a MZ600? Just- wondering. It could not hurt to contact the Manufacture if you really want an Expert answer. Motorola has instructions on their MOTO Dev website on how to revert back to stock from Root, so I figure asking them a simple question about ROM Differences would be ok. Or, if you are feeling adventurous try it at your own RISK. Let us know! Good Luck.
"The models include the MZ600, MZ601, MZ602 and MZ604. Not sure what happened to the MZ603 in there. In the meantime, it seems the only real difference between these four model numbers comes in the form of the radio, or in the case of the MZ604 — the lack of radio.
In other words, the MZ604 is the Wi-Fi only model, which happens to include 802.11 b/g/n. The other three models round out as follows, the MZ600 has support for EVDO Rev.A and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and the MZ601 and the MZ603 both have support for GPRS/EDGE Class 12, HSDPA 10.1Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. "- TFTS

MZ602 is basically an MZ600 with upgraded 4G-Module. This is not just a Software update, during this upgrade your xoom is opened (the two screws besides the hdmi/usb/power-connectors are removed, the aluminum cover can then be slid down a couple of inches), a dummy mini-pci-card is then replaced with a new module. After that a new software will then be flashed in order to support the new mini-pci-card.
If you flash an MZ602-Rom onto your MZ600, my guess is that it will work, but you won't get any 3g-connection, don't know if wifi will work. But this is just a guess.
However, why go with a MZ602-rom? Just flash Team EOS ICS-rom for MZ600 from here (stable) or here (nightlies)

AH! A Team EOS ICS Rom for the 600 DOES exist. I couldn't find a thread for the nightlies and was starting to assume that it only supported the 602 (and all other models except the 600).
That said, the descriptions above of how they upgrade the 600 clear things up for me. It seems like my 600 would be a 602 after sending it in for an upgrade.
Either way, I'm not really planning on signing up for a Verizon account so I'd really just be using Wifi on it. I could probably do some tricks to put the Xoom onto my Sprint account, but I wouldn't have 4G either way in that event.

But.......the EOS ICS Rom for the X600 says.....
NOTE: THIS IS FOR VERIZON 3G DEVICES ONLY. NOT DEVICES UPGRADED TO 4G.
That being said, I didn't even realize that my XOOM was an MZ600 until this morning. I have only been looking and loading ROMs that say they are usable with the 4G upgrade (that I'd sent in and received).
I did, though, flash the ROM for the X600 and its working wonderfully.
I think I may re-flash one of the different ones, though, now....just to see.
BTW.....I know just enough to be dangerous, and have rooted, unrooted, flashed, returned to stock, gosh knows how many times, and haven't totally bricked the thing yet. Thought I had the other day when I couldn't get past the "RGD" Motorola screen.......but that's another story altogether.
Current Config:
Tablet: 4G LTE XOOM (MZ600) 32gb + 32gb microSD
Kernel: 2.6.39.4-Tiamat-3.0.5-gpuoc-02068-g99da013
-ROM-: EOS IML74K Nightly 62 (lee4b3c)
Recov: ClockWorkMod 4.0.0.4
Baseband version: CDMA_N_03.1A.5DPLTEDC_U_05.19.07 (Would this indicate what "X" version I'm now on?)
Cheers!

[Q] European XOOM WiFi

Hello,
I am finding it difficult to understand the difference in European (German) and US XOOM
Most of the ROOT / Firmware flashing talks about US XOOM models also states that it might brick european models
Question is I have a XOOM German model. I want to update to 3.2.2 + root. CAn anyone point me to correct thread
thank you
As far as i know, the hardware on European and US WIFI only Xooms is exactly the same. I have seen many people here flashing US WIFI only Xoom software on European WIFI only Xooms without any problems. They even get official US updates after that.
So if you have a WIFI only Xoom then i would suggest you to flash US software on it and then root it. Search the forums, i'm sure you will find a lot of topics about this.
If you have a European 3G Xoom then thats another story, then you can brick your 3G radio if you flash US software.

[Q] MZ604 Differences (WiFi Only)

Hey guys
I've been reading around here it seems that the MZ604 has variations internationally, right?
So, should I expect issues flashing a custom firmware from another country? I mean, if I apply any other MZ604 ROM, that isn't a Brazilian specific one (in my case), will it work at all? I was hoping to get Tiamat on it, but...
As always, thanks for the support!

Flash MZ604rom on Verizon MZ600

Hi,
Does anyone know, if it is possible to flash a MZ604(UK, German etc) Wifi Only Rom on a MZ600 Verizon Wifi+3g device?
- If yes, do I need to look my device again to reiceive updates or is it even possible to receive updates after the flash?
- If no, can I use another rom instead?
I'm asking that because I'm living in Europe do not need the UMTS chip, it wouldn't work either and the system now is in english only. That's not a problem for me but for my dad, thus I want to make him happy
Thanks for any help
KR
I don't know exactly for the UK, German etc based roms, but I do know that for the US based Wi-Fi only based roms, they work flawlessly on my Wi-Fi + 3g Xoom at this present time.

[Q] Canadian Xoom ICS?

I just got an open box Xoom that seems to be a Canadian version (or at least all the updates come from a .CA address). The ICS upgrade isn't coming up as an available download. Does anyone know if it is possible to load the US ICS upgrade and if so, where to download the package?
Just a little more information... It came with Android 3.0 and got the updates to 3.2. Now when I check for updates it says there are none available. I know ICS has been released in Canada so if getting that package is a better upgrade option I'll take it. It is a Model MZ604 Wifi only if that helps.

It would be much appreciated to let the forum know what model xoom you have (like Wifi or MZ604 or wingray etc...) The different xoom models have slightly different ways of getting ICS.
Here's what I have to offer as advice. Don't take my word for it, but if you want the stock, non-rooted, official US MZ604 ICS version of android for your Canadian Xoom, you'd probably have to load the U.S. stock honeycomb images onto your xoom, and that will allow you to accept the OTA updates that eventually lead up to the latest version of android ics 4.0.4. This assumes that you have a Wifi Only xoom MZ604. By loading the U.S firmware, the xoom will pick up the ICS update intended for the U.S. Wifi Xoom
If you want to find those images: go to http://developer.motorola.com/products/software/ . You will need to sign up for an account, but the account is free and gives you the real, stock factory images for the xoom.
If you have a xoom that uses 3G/4G service, the only option that comes to mind is too root an apply a custom rom onto your xoom. Wesamothman has good guides in the Xoom General forum for doing that.
When you are at the site, look for the M
@Yosterwp,
I am thinking today to combine a general guide for all xoom types rooting and ICS ROM flash (custom). So that it would be one thread post for all xooms
And thanks for appreciating the guides...
@Newanzer, Yostewp is correct. I won't doubt his judgments / methods...

Sorry I should have included that. It's a WiFi only MZ604. I'll edit the original post with it as well. I'm kind of thinking of keeping it all stock for now instead of trying to rebuild it, so I'd like to get ICS 4.0.3 for Canada if possible.
I have been reading other forums about this issue as well. I've tried the clear framework data fix with no luck. Some are saying I need to set my date back to day of release. I may try that tonight. The OTA method seems flaky. I'm surprised they don't have a manual update download option.
Thanks for the reply.

I have the Canadian Xoom (MZ604) as well. I got tired of waiting and tried this shortly after ICS was released to the US version and it totally upgraded. It was a bit tedious to start at 3.0 again and run all the updates just to get to ICS but everything has been fine.

[Q] Which directions for rooting (ICS OTA) Xoom MZ600?

Trying to figure out how to install CyanogenMod on my Xoom MZ600 (ICS Verizon OTA Upgraded) tablet. I searched several links on xda-forums which seem to apply to the xoom2 and xyboard which I (don't think) I have. I also found "Rooting WiFi xoom" on xda-forums but when I got there, it talks about and update for model MZ604 and my UPC sticker says "MZ600". I searched for rooting mz600 in the xda Xoom forum, and found "OUTDATED" guide. I then checked out the CM wiki which gives instructions for installing CM for "Wingray" but I'm not sure if Wingray is "Xoom" or "Xoom2" -- it only says Wi-Fi which presumably, the Xoom2 also has? Gaaahh!. Where is the correct place to go to find correct info for rooting my mz600 with ICS Verizon OTA update? ICS is way to slow for me and turned tablet into useless. I want to put on CM9 or CM7 on it. Thanks!
Hi,
I think you can try giving a look at our device FAQ It may answer lots of your questions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145522
Hey,
I followed the FAQ yesterday and was able to root and flash my Xoom(MZ602) with success! I used the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2088705 JB MR1 4.2 Stingray MZ604 Verizon 4G LTE. I would recommend it if you have a 4g Xoom as opposed to the Wingray because, if I am not mistaken, Wingray is for the WiFi only Xoom...someone with more experience might be able to verify.
Whatever you go with be sure you backup before you flash the ROM, it is never a bad idea to backup!
Good luck you won't regret it!
Sent from my Xoom using xda app-developers app
wingray is the wifi xoom
