I had rooted my phone long back when it was FROYO.
Updated to 2.3.6 a few days back and ever since I've been unable to root my phone. M using the same software i used before (SuperOneClick).
What could be the problem? and eventually the solution?

To root your device, you need to download universal cf root by amit.bagaria or use for specific roms by ganeshbiyer.. Just download it and follow the steps kentioned to flash it. ENJOY!! You have rooted your device!!!

hi
can i update nexus s grj22 rooted to 2.3.6 ?
If it's stock rooted 2.3.4, then you can update by downloading update file from google, put it to your phone, reboot to bootloader and update. You will loose root, so you'll have to root it again.
Sorry, but this belongs in the Q&A area.
I flashed this update and it seems works well. Just s little problems: Before flashing i got the ota popup but i skipped it and i installed manually the update. Now, also after manual update, it continues to ask me if i wat to install the update. Any idea?
Also, wich method did you use to root it? I used su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip but looks like it has a few problems (shell doesn't give me id=0 and i can do adb remout).
Just flash the update on cwm recovery don't reboot and flash superuser.zip right after and then reboot you'll be updated and rooted that the method I used and no problems.

It seems like the current zergRush exploit is patched in the latest V21b so rooting with SuperOneClick or Doomlord's script doesn't work anymore. All other exploits were only for Froyo as far as I know.
You can't directly flash ThiaiZ's rom because you can't root your phone at the moment. You can flash the official V21a rom if you follow the instructions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18082599
That rom is still rootable with the latest SuperOneClick so you can use the stock rom to see if you like it or install ClockWork to flash ThiaiZ's rom after you flashed V21a and rooted it. As far as I can tell ThiaiZ has done a great job with his roms.
I have the V20a, and he drinks more than me
I'll take a look , let's flash.
EDIT: Rooted, I'm going to flash
DONE !

I have 21b too. Can't root it too.
But I can't also go back to 21a. phone restarts and I get a message from the update utility that there's a problem in connectivity between pc and the phone.
Who else tried to go back to 21a? any success?

You need to read the very first thread in this sub-forum.
Rooting is explained in Post #2
Flashing ROMS is explained in Post #3
ive been trying to root my recently updated 2.3.6 skyrocket and just cant seem to get it.
i was on 2.3.5 and rooted lat week, performed the OTA 2.3.6 update and lost root (didnt install rootkeeper)
ive tried all the methods and none of them work. ive tried
S2root
SuperOneClick2.3.3
V4Zergrush
and none of them work.
ive tried searching the entire forum for Root 2.3.6 on the latest OTA and cant find anything.
i can only find root options for the OLD 2.3.6 that was released months ago and retracted by AT&T.
is the latest 2.3.6 not possible to root yet?

Use Odin (link posted above). Follow the instructions VERY CAREFULLY. Do not check re-partition or you will brick.
Good luck!
i dont want CWM though.
my last root process i was able to root and retain stock recovery image so that i would have no issues with future OTA updates.
is rooting no longer possible with out having to flash CWM now?

I didn't get the OTA but have been running Silver's LA3 rom, so I haven't tried to root from stock LA3.
But I guess I'm puzzled as to why you wouldn't want cwm...
At any rate, if you really want stock recovery you can flash it back in Odin by downloading the stock 3e recovery from seanzscreams thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446566&highlight=fix+fc+s (you wouldn't need to follow all the instruction there for your purposes, but you can get the 3e recovery to flash back). Just download and unzip the file there. Stock recovery is in the zip.
Hi
I rooted my note 10.1 quite a while ago (~6 months)
The method I used I believe was to flash something using odin (cf autoroot? )
Anyway I just wanted root to be able to use sixaxis but was happy with stock rom. Now it has been a while I would like to update my rom and by going into su and temporarily disabling root I can download the ota update from samsung but it refuses to install.
Does anyone know a way to just remove root so I can install the ota update and not have to do a full wipe.
I could download the rom from samsungfirmware and then install with odin but would that not require a wipe?
Thanks

No suggest you use Kies .
Hi,
I have a Note edge N915W8 which i updated to 5.1.1 the moment it became available on Sammobile (big mistake). as everyone knows, i lost root in the process. And no root availble at this time.
Important history of the phone:
I acquired the device from a friend that had rooted it when it was in its original stock 4..4.4 config. He then tried to flash a custom rom which ended up in a bootloop which he was unable to recover from because there wasn't a stock rom available at the time. Long story short, I ended up with a bootlooped Note Edge and after a week i managed to acquire someones backup zip from XDA -- which i then used to free my device from the loop and function properly with root.
I got too eager and flashed the 5.1.1 without reading up on it and lost root.
So, i was hoping there would be a way or method that i could use that would allow me to use that same custom recovery backup of 4.4.4, only this time be able to flash it through odin on my stock 5.1.1
Any advice would help.
Thanks
From what I know once you take 5.1 update you cant backroll to 4.4.4.
BOOTLOADER was patch'd BY the GREATS to throw another wrech in our plans!
And also I do blv there is ROOT for 5.1 but it trips knox & you have to install twrp thru Odin then flash SUPERSU & BEASTMODE Kernel that allows root and then take root
