Infuse stock notes *solved see page 2* - Samsung Infuse 4G

When rooting and going with a custom rom I lost my notes app that came on the phone. Is there a addon that i can put on that will restore my notes that i backed up on before the switch?

If you made a nandroid you can just take it from there manually.
Though its best you just use something like evernote that syncs to the cloud so you don't have to deal with that in ze futur.

i did back up the nandroid. is there a how to on that i just want to get all my data?

probably somewhere but it'd be easier to restore it then backup your apps with titanium backup so you have it for any rom you flash.
if you don't have it already its free

ok i went to the back up and its at the samsung screen and fell few vibrates and seems like its reboots to samsung screen and does it over and over doing same thing.

I replaced all stock apps with custom apps:
Gallery - QuickPic
Video Player - mVideo Player
Audio Player - Folder Player
Calendar - Calendroid
Notes - Color Note
Calculator - Realcalc
Browser - Dolphin Mini
I deleted all the stock apps, and set up two tasks in TiBu to backup all new apps, and all apps with changed data every night. I backup these to dropbox every day or two. This keeps data intact, and also helps eliminate customize each of these apps between ROMs.

[Q] Backup EVERYTHING to flash new rom

Ok I've been searching for a while now and can't find a full solution. I want to flash the updated Leedroid rom to my Inspire but I don't want to lose ANYTHING. My goal is to flash the new rom and have my phone be exactly the same as before the flash, just updated. I need like a 100% guarantee. I don't want to backup anything to google contacts because it degrades the photos, and I don't want to lose any accounts or app data.
Thank
Tommy

try titanium backup pro from the market
Well that's what I'm talking about, I've read about Titanium and MyBackup Pro but I don't know if they backup everything in the system. Like I said I want it 100% like it was before flashing the updated rom. I appreciate the help but I need detailed help. I've very new to the Android dev. I switched from an iPhone so I'm really lost here lol

Yes, Titanium Backup will backup everything, even system data. However, if you are switching between ROMs, you do not want to restore system data (eg. going from Sense to CM7) you will have a ton of issues.

Ok so I won't lose texts, call logs, favorites, settings, accounts, app data...EVERYTHING? I'm staying with Sense just simply updating to the new Leedroid from the previous version.
Titanium backup does not back up call logs, text messages etc. It can back up apps, app data and configurations, and system data. As said above, you do not want to back up system data when u are going from one rom to another. Even if its the same rom but different version. The only right way I know of to do what your asking is if the developer of the rom u are using offers incremental rom updates. That way, no data or configurations is deleted. You may be new to android...so I offer this warning to you....don't try and cut corners or invent ways of trying to accomplish something...you will either find yourself having lots of problems with your phone or end up bricking it. If it could be done, there would already be a process to do it, made by the developers on this forum.

I'm not trying to cut corners at all that's why I posted this. I keep being told what not to do but I'm still not getting the answer I need. What am I going to lose? What can I save? Using what? What is the best app/apps to get the most I can in a backup. I'm not trying to be ungrateful for the help it's just rather frustrating after searching for hours and can't get a solid answer. I hate when people are just like "no that won't work" lol offer the most info you can to help someone out. That's why these forums are here. Again I'm just annoyed a can't get a full answer lol
I need an explanation of things I cannot and things I can backup, in detail. Please.

See that's exactly what I'm talking about lol I have looked it up this is exactly what the description says:
"The ONLY tool that can backup, restore, freeze (with Pro) your apps + data + Market links! Even protected apps! 0-click Batch/scheduled backups! PRO version has 0-click batch restores, Dropbox sync, Dalvik cleaner & MORE!"
That does explain anything at all. It's simple man if you know the info share it. If you don't have the time to write something helpful on here, I get that. But don't write something just to write a reply. I obviously need help so I don't mess things up. I'm trying to get helpful info not just someone saying "go look it up". I've tried. I keep coming up on MyBackup Pro and Titanium Backup Pro, but they don't tell me what I can't restore when I'm flashing a new rom and what I can't backup. Simply stating that it backups "data" and "settings" doesn't help me if I don't know what exactly that means. Just making a backup isn't what I'm trying to achieve.
The best app to backup IMO is titanium backup. But again, when going from one rom to the next, this backs up apps only. There is no effective way that I know of to back up your text messages, call logs etc. So the implied message is, you will loose everything that is not an app backed up by titanium backup. The main purpose of titanium backup is to back up your apps so u don't have to redownload everything. Other than that, the only other recommended backup method is nandroid backup through clockwork mod recovery. This backup is a full system image backup. So restoring through this method will put u right back to the same rom and version you were at. So in short, do a titanium backup, wipe, install your new rom, titanium backup to restore your apps, and start reconfiguring away like the rest of us do.

Not correct. TiBu will back up texts and call logs. It's probable you don't know that because you don't restore system data. I've never had a problem doing that, but I guess everyone has a different experience.

Thank you. So those apps that say they backup texts and what not don't work? Man I hate having to start over. What should I do about my contacts? I don't have them linked to Google because of my photos. This was a crappy part of jailbreaking the iPhone see I knew the ins and outs of the jailbreaking world but rooting now that's a whole new beast.

I understand that not finding the answer you seek in its entirety can be a bit troubling. But in my humble opinion, trial and error is part of this never ending adventure we call Android OS.
As stated above, Titanium Backup will probably be your best bet to get "most" of the backup you seek.

Exactly. Android is a completely different animal than iPhone. Android is built on Linux. So its going to be completely different. Not sure about the apps that claim to backup texts...never heard anybody use that before and I've had no need for it. I had the same issue with contacts but I just found it easier to go ahead and sync Google contacts. Because when you enter the world of flashing, that's one less thing you have to worry about backing up and restoring...because its stored online. And as soon as you install your new rom, and then sign in to your Google account, it will automatically download your contacts to your new rom. And whenever you edit contacts, it automatically syncs in real-time.

Grr you suck lol I want nice looking photos. That's something else we need to figure out. Or is it impossible because Google just sucks with that right now? lol
That's a valid point. It frustrates me too. But ultimately, when you start flashing, you want to find a way to streamline the process to what works best for you. And like said earlier, the android experience is trial and error. But again, that doesn't include doing things that's likely going to eff up your phone...unless you simply don't care about turning your phone into a really expensive paper weight. Then you will be that Guy that's posting on the forum....help! I messed up my phone.

Lol exactly I'd rather ask for help and seem like a newb, which I am, then be the one crying after I messed things up and it's too late. So ANYTHING I've downloaded including the amazon app store, which was a PITA to get on the phone, will be saved using Tbackup right? And that's it. Photos and all that good stuff are saved to the SD card and what not I just need to flash the new rom and then put my email accounts and I'm good to go right?

For other GB installs, I've seen read that first you flash the GB ROM via Recovery, and then, via ADB, you flash the radio
Can the following sequence work?
Get into the bootloader
flash the radio
after the radio is done, get into recovery
wipe everything and flash the GB ROM
Reboot
???

Calendar Issues
Anyone having issues with calendars? Wiped everything prior to install, neither google or exchange calendars are syncing, and HTC calendar widget force closes after searching for available calendars. Have tried the following things: Removed exchange account and re-created, tried re-installing rom with no wipes, and tried to sync with wi-fi on, all a no go. Searched in development thread with no luck. I did have smooth calendar widget installed but removed it also with no effect.
Thanks

I'm using TouchDown, because even this ROM still has the bug that HTML emails don't show up, with Zimbra as the server... Oh well.
I had a few issues with Force Closes when I booted it up for the first time, but other than that no issues. I just flashed it tonight.
I wanted to thank all the guys doing the BAMF Roms. I have been flashing them since 1.1. I am not on 2.0.2 and just wanted to say thanks. I don't have enough posts on this forum as I don't post alot, but rather read, so can't tell him thanks in the Dev thread.

Going from froyo to GB, I've heard of issues restoring the data on your apps. If it works for you--great-- but if you're having FC issues, this might be the culprit. Reflash and don't restore data from Titanium Backup.

android.process.media force close! FIX

I know some of you have been having problems with a force close message that looks like this: Android.process.media is not responding please force close or retry.
I have done search after search only to find one way that ultimately fixes this annoying every second force close message.
1. Make sure your phone is rooted.
2. Using a file explorer of your choice go into the directories as follows:
/system/app/
3. Delete this file from the menu, mediaprovider.apk
4. Force close messages will now stop. Horray!

Another great program in root explorer. You can get it from ww w. 4shared .co m
Go there type in rootexplorer .apk and it will have multiple downloads. Just pick one and run it.
You can get all the paid apps for free like that. Just type in .apk after the app you want is typed in for example: rootexplorer .apk or irunner .apk or androidbanking .apk..... you get the picture?

+ 1, a one time payment of $4 for something useful is nothing.
Sent from my abucus
why patronize piracy?
I live in Asia, where pirated software/apps are more prevalent than legit ones. That is because software like Microsoft Windows is economically out of reach for the man on the street.
But $3.99? Come on! We shouldn't expect devs to continue churning out useful code without getting paid for it. If the developers of Titanium Backup or Root Toolbox had decided early on that it wasn't worth it to develop apps for Android or WinMo, we'd all still be in the Dark Ages of the cellphone era. Making custom ROMs is not the same. For one, many of them were based on stock firmware--which were made by highly-paid software engineers at phone makers in the first place.
What the Android Market offers for free, I download for free. When it has a price and I need it, I pay for it. Simple as that.
1) the fix listed above worked perfectly for me. (HD2, gingerbread, CM7)
2) paying for an app is the right thing to do. free ones are preferred, of course. you know it, i know it, they know it. support open source, support the community. pay it forward.

Yep, this is actually a horrible fix. For me, it did nothing except stop me from accessing any of my media. So if you don't care about listening to music, viewing any photos, having ringtones, viewing video you have taken etc, this MIGHT work for you. I had to dig out the mediaprovider.apk from the .zip of my ROM and replace it.
I fixed mine by restoring my last Titanium Backup ("restore all apps with data"). Whatever was corrupted was restored back to working order. I understand that not everyone has Titanium Backup, but it has save my a$$ a couple of times now when an app or system file has started acting weird. Root your phone and get TB, it's so worth it.
EDIT: OK, so the problem came back after I replaced mediaprovider.apk, so apologies for that. I booted into recovery and did a factory/data reset, then restored my Titanium Backup, and all seems to be good now. Again, I understand this may not help everyone, but it worked for me, and it avoids deleting apk files without fully understanding what effect it will have.

I had the same problem with my Asus transformer. In addition the default Music player did not work anymore as it used to (played the wrong numbers).
The above solution did not work for me (I could get to the files mentioned without rooting).
Sofar I got the problem solved as followed.
1. I found an new version 4 of the Music player (com.google.android.misic.4.0.9.apk) and installed this version
2. This by itself did not solve anything, but now I could reinstall the factory original version and now everything is OK.
No forced closing anymore and the default player works as before
I hope it stays this way.

alfred
I've just updated to latest Oxygen on my Huawei U8800, and was having that same issue.
After reading this post, I've updated with TB the application "[Playlists] Media Storage 2.3.7 (10)" and it solved it.
It seems that my custom playlists of the music app were causing it...

Any way to retain settings when switching roms?

I'm still new to the ROM scene, but my biggest headache so far when switching between roms is having to start all over each time.
I know how to restore apps and text messages, but is there an app that will restore caller id pictuers, personal ringtones, phone call history... these types of settings?
If there is an app, can I run it on my stock rom that is setup how I like it, flash to a new rom and restore the settings on that rom. I'm just wondering if restoring personal settings on different roms is an issue?
I searched this issue and found lots on restoring sms and apps, but not much on the personal settings. If I've missed the answer, please just point me in the right direction, don't take the time to sculd me for asking for help, it's not like I didn't search.
Thanks!
You can save system settings in titanium backup as well but it's usually not recommended.

Restoring system settings between different rom bases has been know to cause problems for years. My Backup Pro will restore most of the things you want including call logs, sms, play lists ect.

I figured restoring from one rom to another might cause issues, but when people have 200+ contacts and each one has it's own picture and possible ringtone, I figured someone had to have a way of making this process easier.
I'll look into Titanium and My backup pro, trying can't hurt anything, if it doesn't work, I'll just flash back to stock.
Thanks

If your contacts are synced with Google the pictures assigned to then should stay between ROMs. I just flashed one last night and my pictures are still with each contact.

Good to know, I did not know that.
In titanium, you can select any system data parts that are in green writing. Titanium makes a determination on what is safe to restore. Usually sms, wifi passwords, call logs can be done.

3 'New' cool apps

Hey guys,
I just wanted to inform you about two apps I found recently that appear to boost performance and battery life a bit.
The one that boosts performance is a better and more efficient version of Seeder. It's called SeFix and (as opposed to Seeder) really does seem to work!
The second (the battery booster) is actually way more versatile:
It's called Greenify and it lets you disable apps to run in the background.
Eg. I set it to decline the Google Maps request to run in the background all the time; because as we all know, Maps often sucks somewhere near 7% of the battery.
(However, it needed me to root uninstall it and then install it from the play store, so it wasn't a system app anymore)
Anyway: I hope this helped and that it makes your device nicer to use (like it did for me)
Last but not least: as you are probably aware: Orange Backup is a backup app that lets you do complete (CWM or TWRP style backups) without having to go into the recovery!
Really awesome.
I guess you could use it for Facebook too, to keep it from running in the background all the time.
Or... You could also *not* use Facebook and switch to cooler social media, such as Google+

Greenify looks the app I have been looking for. Maps constantly runs in the background (not on my tf700 but on HTC One S). I am trying this app to see if it works. Thanks for sharing!

You might have to root uninstall it and then reinstall it from the Play Store (to get rid of the 'system app' issue).
It worked for me
Definitely some better battery life after stopping those battery hungry apps
:good: thank you, i will try them... :victory:

Never happened to me.
Are you using data2sd?
Maybe it's confused because of the switch?
I can only say that it works like a treat for me and that it makes these backups quite fast considering that it doesn't need to boot into recovery.
Have you tried contacting the developer? He's called snoopy333 and is to be found in the original thread. Maybe he can tell you what's going on?
Thank you for sharing the existence of greenify.
EXCELLENT
How do I block the playstore?
Titanium Backup does not turn me or makes user application and remains in system application.
thanks

No data2sd, I installed it, went well, config backup desitnation folder which is on my sdcard or microsdcard (tried both). Did you use cloud instead of internal storage? I uninstalled/reinstalled still same issue, WTF! This app seems very well done.

I tried TWRP (compression disabled, maybe the key lies there) and let it back-up locally.
But I have indeed also backed everything up to the cloud.
Both worked fine...
Have you contacted the dev yet? I am kind of curious what causes this issue

Thanks, but I already tried with and without compression, also with md5 settings also (tried them all), even reboot my device before launch the app. I may have to contact the dev see what's going on.

I contacted the developer and he resolved my issue. This issue was busybox. I re installed busybox and bam everything is working as expected. BTW, his service is excellent, send him an email and 10min later I got his reply. Can't beat that for a free app!! Thanks.

Thanks for letting us know!
It is always so impressive how responsive android developers are :highfive:

Yeah like I said: go into Titanium Back-up, select Google Maps and convert it to user app (or root uninstall Maps and reinstall it through the Play Store)
Afterwards, you should be able to select it for Greenify!
