Last night i was flashing the rogers orignal rom through odin and my phone was on download mode. I use rogers tar file on pda and pit file that came with odin1.7 zip. So i press start nothing was happening for like 10 mins it kept saying setupconnection.... So i unplugged my usb took the battery out and the phone was bricked with cellphone and computer logo so i plugged my usb and odin recoqnized my usb that yellow box was highlighted and i press start again WOW it was flashing and got my 2.1 back. So Thanks odin for saving me. I hope this helps people with brick phone.

u r one lucky person...same thing happened to me and i am trying to get my cappy recognized but with no luck...
Hi,
I just bought a captivate (rogers) 2h ago and was trying to put my phone ready for customization and I had the same long/no moving message under odin.
I removed the phone, and now I have the phone/warning/pc icon and nothing more.
And odin doesn't recognize it at all...
Is it bricked?

use jig...it will go in download mode and u can use Odin3 v1.7 after that
Actually I used this method (from xda) :
1. power off phone
2. remove battery.
3. plug in USB cable to computer and phone (with battery out)
4. hold Vol Up and Vol Down
5. drop in the battery while still holding the vol buttons
6. in 2 secs you'll be in download mode
And now it works!!! Thanks to adzidek!!

for this method to work, do u need ur phone to have 3 button combo working?
You guys are lucky. My phone got stuck in the factoryfs.rfs step. Now it's dead. No response to charger to power button, or 3 button combo. Nothing.
Still under warranty so I'm sending back to Samsung next week.
edit: well, I managed to get it up after struggling with my jig for a while.///

Do you have a self built jig (3x 100k resistors) or a USB jig?
USB jib is pretty straight forward, you simply put it in the phone's USB port and it will force the phone into download mode. Whether the phone is on or off doesn't matter. (You do need a charged battery in)

I have to say thank you so much. I have been flashing my captivate for over two years now and have soft bricked it many times but I have always been able to 3-button or buttons with USB cable recover it. Last night my brother asked me to flash his phone to CM10. I agreed to and I was shocked with ODIN failed and got stuck on setting connection. I was even more upset when nothing would put me in download mode.
I stumbled on this thread whilst waiting for radio shack to open this morning and my stock 2.2 ODIN saw the phone! Yay. Now the phone is happily running CM10. I think this is a sign anyways that I should make a JIG anyways. Third time in need of one and yet I always find the most obscure way of getting by without it. I am such a bad elec. eng. to not have make a single usb JIG.
Thank you again for posting this so long ago. And thank you XDA for (putting me in trouble but) always having the solutions to save me.
PS. The only difference in the two phones that I can tell is mine is batch 1012 and shipped stock eclair and his is 1xxx and shipped stock froyo.
So i tried using the ed1 stock (through odin) after trying 2.3.4 and it went through no prob. I immediately then tried to flash clockwork recovery and it failed.
Now when plugged in with odin running the little yellow guy wont pop up.
PLS HELP!!!

do you have the battery in and trying to turn it on?
Haha jesus christ, this is happening to me now.
EDIT: Use a different USB cable. The one I was using when I originally posted this message tends to be flaky, I have no idea why. I just tried another USB cable and Odin picked up the phone fine.
I noticed Odin not discovering my phone on any COM ports too. Here's what I discovered: make sure Odin is open before plugging in and activating download mode. If you've already done this, then I'm not sure what the problem is. Just to be 100% sure, I always start Odin fresh (instead of hitting Reset) before plugging in my phone.
Disconnect you phone from the computer, power down your phone, fire up Odin, plug your phone in and hold power+volume down to get to Downloading mode. Adjust using your head if you can't have your battery in...

easy to get into download mode, try this:
Unplug usb cable.
Press vol up+vol down at the same time and hold it for a few seconds then when you let go you should see a large triangle which says "do not turn off the fone".. when you see that, have Odin ready with all the flash files setup properly and simply plug the usb into fone from computer.
When you have done that, the [COM: ] entry in Odin will turn Yellow and it will have a number in it. After it does that click start in Odin.
Do not check or uncheck any of the boxes in Odin, let it stay at default.
Be sure to follow instructions in XDA forum where you got the Ultimate Unbrick........
Good luck!
To get into download mode you only need to hold the volume buttons down as you plug in the USB

His instructions for download mode were correct, but I think you have to pull the battery first... Pull battery, hold volume buttons, put battery back, while holding buttons plug micro usb in phone (usb to pc should already be connected)

That's how I do it. Id have Odin already running on pc, take bricked phone and pull battery, hold down both volume buttons, while holding volumes plug phone via usb to computer, the phone should display the triangle screen telling you now to turn off phone or whatever.

Don't need to pull battery if the device is fully off.
If it's bootlooping or something, you'll need to pull battery to stop the bootloop then plug in the USB when holding VolUp and VolDown.
If you get the yellow "working android" screen you're good, if you get the "phone and PC exclamation mark" screen you're still good - the latter just means you HAVE to flash something to get a working phone.
gtg's unbrick package did not have bootloaders so it should not be able to hardbrick your phone. You're hardbricked only if you get a black screen no matter what you do.
PM sent. I would like to offer you a free opportunity to allow me to BETA test and attempt a JTAG repair on your phone and produce a world's first and also allow you to have a repair for free. Let me know! We could make history...
Use a Jig and flash with Odin
Look at this link: android.jakaar.net/infuse-jig.html for information how to make a jig.
Then go here: android.jakaar.net/infuse-return-to-stock.html to flash it back to stock.
Hopefully it would help someone else who more recently bricked their Infuse

Same thing happened to me two days ago. I was going back to stock and the usb cord came out (was house sitting a neighbor's frisky dog). It was me, not the dog. I really thought that I was screwed this time. I only had a few dots in a diagonal pattern and that was it. I did the vol+,vol-, and usb and saw that odin recognized my infuse with nothing on the screen but a few dots in a diagonal pattern. Went through the motions and bingo. It was fixed. GTG to the rescue again!

I've had this happen to me (yanked the cable accidentally) and had the dotted colors/black screen. See if your PC will recognize your phone. The way to tell is if COM##4 or whatever comes up in the far left box in Odin, the box will be yellow. If it does just run odin like your phone is showing the download screen.

Thank you very much. This helped me out when I had no hope left. Now I'm stuck at the CWD blue screen.
I flashed a wrong kernel by mistake... and now my phone just comes up for a sec or so.. shows samsung logo and goes black... i can see the internal and external sd card drives under my computer but cant access them ofcourse. Am i hard bricked? How do i go into DL mode from here?
I had the same situation, thought I hard bricked my phone as well. That little pic of a phone triangle and a small mini computer is really nothing to be alarmed about, its still considered to be a download mode. If you have GTG's Unbrick files Use them in Odin to unbrick your phone and continue as normal.

USE GTG's Unbrick go back to stock and do it again.
Please help. I was using odin3 v1.85 and trying to flash the stock EP4 from the imnuts page. during the flash odin said it failed. My phone now fails to be recognized by my PC. I am not able to boot into CWM nor am I able to boot in to download mode. Any which way I try to get the phone booted up I get the screen that looks like:
cellphone...exclamation point in a triangle... computer
With the battery out of the cell, if I plug the phone into my computer, it is not recognized by the computer and no power flows to the phone
When I put the battery back in and either try to boot to CWM or download mode, I get the:
cell... exclamation point in triangle...computer.
Am I now bricked for good? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Are you holding the volume down button when plugging it in? Battery out, hold volume down, plug in phone... If still not recognized, try downloading an older version of odin... Then repeat... Ive had my phone at that same screen and came out ok so dont freak... Lol.

Good thought. I booted up Odin3 version 1.3 and no luck. The phone will not go in to download mode but Odin1.3 will recognize the phone as plugged in, which is a step in the right direction compared to Odin3 1.85 which would not. Oh, I am beginning to "freak out" from this stress!!
Any recommendations or suggestions? Thanks ahead of time.
...
I use odin v1.82... Try that. If I rememebr right it took me several tries before I got odin to recognize my phone. So your starting with the phone off and battery out... Your holding down volume down key as you plug the phone in? and when you do that it odin recognizes your device but your device just shows that its charging? Try flashing it anyways with the .pit file and stock ep4d... If that doesnt work try flashing CWM first.. Then flash the restore package.. Sounds to me like your phone has been absolutely wiped so you have no recovery image. I think thats finally what got me up and running again.. This is a fixable situation, dont give your hopes up!!!!

Take out the battery and it shouldn't do that.
Fixed.
Thanks to everyone for your help. I used the IMNUTS recommendation on how to "fix my phone" and it worked. Again, thanks for the help!
Ok here's the deal.
While trying to restore the phone using Odin my little one unplugged it and now all it does is flash a white screen.
If i unplug it from power it doesn't work at all.
When I try to plug it into computer it just says cant find drivers unidentified usb device.

check your power button if you cant get into dl mode using a jig, especially if you are getting samsung logo boot loops
try a different battery or a fully charged battery
if all you are getting is a flashing white screen and you have tried different stuff: cord, battery, jig etc
you may need a jtag rescue
search xda infuse white screen on google
