Just bought a Thunderbolt on craigslist.. it's mint condition but didn't come with a battery .. just the usb charger.. but it doesn't power on.. I'm hoping/assuming it won't without a battery in it..?
The phone won't turn on without a battery in place.

A Rezound battery works in the Thunderbolt.

I was in the process of installing step 1 and got an error message at 95%.
Now it will not power up or even charge the battery (tested completly dead).
I have ordered a new battery. Just wondering if there is a way to access using just AC or USB?
Thanks
hey man, you dont need to order a new battery.. just go to one of those malls where they charge your battery and you pay them the money.. or ask you friends if they have a battery charger.. ordering extra battery might be a bit uneconomical if you knoe what i mean.. is there any facilities as such where you live.. over here in hk, i can go to a seven-eleven, give any battery, phone or camera, n they charge within 30 mins n i pay them abt US$1. its realli realli cheap in my opinion.
It's not a common phone in the US. No one has a charger for this battery or a phone that uses it. I hope the new one will have the 50% charge on it to let me into bootloader.
MODS PLEASE DELETE THIS IF YOU WANT ONCE VERIFIED
Basically i had 90 percent BAttery
I switched off the phone, Took out the battery to be sure it is completely turned off.
Plugged in my charger (im charging via PC at the moment, will test with wall charger later)
The LED Came on and then went out after 2 seconds
After ten minutes i took out the battery again and reinserted and powered on
My battery was 100 PERCENT
use battery indicator from market to check your current level or you can check it using *#*#4636#*#* and clicking battery information
Can you please check this. and post here ASAP.
Make sure your battery isnt fully charged (between 20 and 80 percent ideal), Turn off completely (pull the battery out and reinsert if you want to be sure)
Plug in your charger now
After 15 minutes
Take out battery and reinsert.
POWER ON
What is you battery now?
please post your before and after percentage here. THANKS
Mine too.
After CMW and S-Off it is not charging, same behavior. And my battery if fully discharged, which means I bricked my device since I just can't turn it on nor charge it...

You can either let a friend charge your battery for you in his phone
Or
You can get a usb cable, any kind really, chop off the end that goes into the phone. There will be 4 wires exposed, you only need the red and black ones, pay no attention to the green or white wires or whatever color they are. Connect the exposed wire to the battery (to part that touches the prongs on the phone) and it will charge. All you have to do is find out on the web which of the 4 slots on the battery do what, and connect the positive (red) cable to the positive slot on the battery, and the black cable to the neg part of the battery.
In the worst case, you could charge your battery outside the phone with a power supply...
Not an easy way, especially if you're going on vacation...But it's a good thing to be aware from this!
Edit: Durps,you killed me!
my phone charge while off i see alot of people are suffering from this but mine still charge while off my led is on
The issue seems to be fixed with the official cwm recovery flashed from within rom manager.
...at least for me.

walk into a phone shop, ask them if u can charge your battery for 10 mins in one of their phones.
Say something about software crash blah blah, they usually dont care at all, and will let you.
PS to confirm is version v4.0.1.5 the good one? ie will let you use/charge your phone in the "normal" way?
update your versions of rom manager ...the dev updated the recovery and now it does charge
Just install the new CWM version 4.0.1.5 from ROM Manager to fix this (HUGE) bug
My battery was overheating so I just took out the battery. It was at low battery before so it said connect to an AC charger. If I take it out and put it back in to charge when its done will it turn on?
I think you should put the battery in but not charging, and see if it's heating up again. Could be a one 1 time thing.

I had the same problem with my old Anker battery, and that battery can only be charged from outside of the phone. What battery do you use?

im using anker battery too. but im charging my phone with the battery inside.
does the anker battery can only be charge outside the phone?am i not doing the proper way?
From my experience, the blinky orange LED indicates that the battery is too low to power on the phone. However, for me at least, the battery charges in this state and the light will eventually become steady orange.
I have experienced that some batteries, if allowed to drain too much, will not recharge easily. This may be your case with your anker.
I am guessing you have tried leaving it plugged in for a while?

I am using anker battery since 4 months never had problem. The blinking light suggests ur batteryis on very low charge less then 5% leave it on charge for a while light will get steady.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Yes, if the batt is zero, the orange light blinks for a few minutes while.charging.... It then turns to solid, and the phone can be switched.on....... Had this experience last week on my wife's sensation xe.

Yep. Remember a wall charger will charge your battery faster then connecting to a computer.

i see i think that would not be a problem.
one more about the anker battery, is it ok to charge the battery in 5v output charger even in the label of the battery it only says 3.7v?
This happens with the normal battery too if you drain it all the way. Just plug it in, let it charge for a minute or 3 and you can turn it on.
If you get the blinking light for more than 5 minutes of charging than your adapter is not giving it enough juice.
Try to get your hands on an old Motorola charger without a a detachable usb wire and plug that in - imo they tend to give a lot more power, and also dont leave it plugged in for more than a few hours since they make your battery kinda hot.
Also, see if your input might be loose, take a tweezer and gently squeeze from top to bottom to make it better for a tighter fit.
Let me know how it goes, cheers

I had a similar problem and this one felt like it was sort of abandoned / unresolved.
I would hate to be the person who uses search but to end up here and find this.
Also, what you wrote seems to be broken. Are you simply informing me that I replied to an old thread or that I can't reply to old threads that aren't closed yet?

hi.
my sensation takes 6-12 hours to charge completely..
I tried a different charger(pantech\ nokia\ motorola) and another battery.
Tried charging on original ROM, made wipe battery status in recovery
but nothing has changed
who knows more possible actions?
Get a new battery. This one you have is probably just worn out. Long charging is a common symptom of a dying battery.

I replaced the battery with a new one. nothing has changed.

does it take as long on the official HTC charger?
did you replace the battery with either a NEW Anker 1900, or NEW official HTC battery?
if you can answer yes to both of these questions, then it is possible that your phone may have a hardware failure...
what rom are you using?
2 yes
1)yes, on the official HTC charger it's take so long time.
If the program Battery Monitor Widget is does not lie on the official HTC charger phone max take 250mA.
most takes on the nokia charger - 350mA. and says that the phone is connected to USB
2)yes, i replace with a new official htc battery.

The charger itself could be bad. Do you have another charger or can you borrow another charger for 2 hours to test?
Just about any other charger for a modern smart phone will work. They should all be 1 amp chargers. If it was bought in the last year or two it should be 1 amp. Chances are most people in your life have one.

i charging always with pantech original 1amp. charger. My official htc charger burned down long time ago.
i borrowed official htc charger for testing, nothing has changed
Try wiping battery stats , I had trouble getting it to charge ,it was at about 80% but had took hours to get to that , wiped battery stats and it was actually 100% charged,
Had to wipe twice and use a battery calibration app twice then switch off and gave it 30min after green light came on but eventually its working fine
Although there is still a good chance your original battery is knackerd,

No.
Just no.
Wiping your battery stats did not affect this. Battery stats are just a log file. They have no impact on charging or discharging.
Can I power on my phone without battery when it is conected to charger?

I am absolutely 100% certain that this is not what fixed your issue, even if you did this right at the same time the issue disappeared. Something else happened, whether you realize it or not. Guaranteed.

I don't think so. I think the battery is part of the internal electrical circuit. It can't route power from the cord directly to the device. If the battery is missing its the same as if you cut an section out of a wire.

Most of the times it comes down to the rom or kernel.
Service Center wrote that replaced the....shunt
