As with the Exynos-based counterparts, call recording is disabled in our ICS build. I believe this problem has been solved in those, but is it fixable here without kernel source?
Call recording is somewhat critical for my job, and while I do have an external wired call recorder set up, it's pretty patchy and inconvenient.
Probably can't be done without kernel source, which we may not see for awhile. joemeister and others are making progress on am aosp kernel made from scratch, but this also is still alpha
This call recorder from the market works without issue and I have tested and verified this it works both ways and only requires root. Try it for yourself and you'll see it works well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skvalex.callrecorder&hl=en

Ugh. I installed a trial version of this I got from another thread here and the expiration was set to before I installed it so it never did anything.
Even worse, it made the app show up as "purchased" in the market, but since I didn't really purchase it, it won't download and I get a 403 error.
confirmed worked for me as well.
That's good to know. I'll figure something out then, maybe contact Google or the developer.
Hi all. I recently updated the software to 38R and noticed that forward lookup no longer works on the dialer. I've got the setting ticked and the lookup provider is still Google but nothing works.
Is anyone else having this problem?
I have the same issue. I changed the provider but still it won't lookup nearby business phone numbers. Even the reverse lookup is not performing
I hope it gets patched.
Sorry for the bump but has anyone found a way to solve this? It doesn't work with the CM12 Dialer App either and I really miss this functionality from the Stock Google Dialer found on my Nexus 5. I've tried a lot of different ways to get the Google Dialer 2.0 APK working on CM12 including trying to deodex the apk and then building a version of CM12 with odexing enabled and everything just resulted in the dialer force closing, so I'm at a loss here.
EDIT: Well... I did all of that... just to find out my issue with Forward Lookup was that somehow my location services managed to turn itself off. Turned it on and it works now. I feel like a fool but I'll leave this here in case anyone else is having similar troubles.
Hi everyone,
So I've been using voip.ms as my phone service for a few years now, and the native SIP client on Android has always worked like a charm on my previous phones (Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexuis 5X).
I just got a Samsung Galaxy S7 G930F, and it seems like the native SIP client is broken and not working properly.
I got to configure the SIP settings by following this guide, but it seems like I cannot get outoing calls to work (incoming calls work perfectly).
Whenever I make a call, I cannot use the volume controls (stuck at max volume), and when the other party answers my call, they hear a loud strident machine sound, but they cannot hear me at all. I can hear them, but the sound is really choppy.
I've tried factory resetting the phone, I've also tried using the Google Dialer, but the problem persists.
Normal calls work just fine, so it seems like this has something to do with the SIP stack.
My questions to you guys are, has anyone had success in using the native Android SIP client on their Samsung Galaxy S7 phone? Has anyone experienced the same issue?
I'm now using Zoiper for making VOIP calls, but its implementation of Bluetooth car controls is broken. That's one of the reasons I liked the Android native SIP client so much: it worked perfectly out of the box on my previous Nexus phones.
Thank you.
same problem here, with the addition that the noise also occurs on incoming calls, thus making the internal SIP client useless. It was working fine on my S5mini (an otherwise crippled phone), and I have the exact same setup on the S7. I tested safe mode and uninstalling a call recorder app, but to no avail.
Samsung, I bought your premium phone, so get this fixed!

Same problem on my S7. CSipSimple works but without the native client integration I cannot use BT.
Im using Canadian Exynos if that makes a difference. Anyone who has tried the Nougat beta, does it fix it?
the problem seems to be fixed after upgrading to Android 7.0

I have 7.0 (stock rom) on my A320FL (Galaxy A3 2017) and i'm still having this exact problem with the native SIP client I hope they fix it on android O or i'll have to wait for a custom rom to be released ;-;
s8 active choppy sip sound
Incoming calls are working but outgoing have choppy sound. I tried different codecs on freepbx side but still the same. Any updates for better sound quality?
for whatever reason (one of the last updates?), internet calling now works on Samsung Galaxy S7, Android 7.0, G930FXXU2DRA9.
updated to Android 8.0 today. VoIP connections not usable anymore. After installing "Galaxy SIP Accounts" I can again edit the connections and send and receive calls, but the connection is completely silent - not even the cracking noise I had for a while with Android 7 before it magically disappeared.
Any ideas what to do?

It works fine on S7 & Oreo with my provider (odorik.cz). Already did a few calls without any issues.
one day later after installing Zoiper but not changing any phone or network settings, the native client is working again... quite strange behavior...
SOLVED - Problems with VOIP Client
hi there,
since this thread helped / enlightened me, i thought i contribute some observations of mine.
Used hardware: Samsung Galaxy S7
Aprox. one and a half year ago i started with VOIP and of course as a newbie i did it with apps like Zoiper IAX or CSip Simple, but never was really happy to have to use an extra app for phone calls.
While later i discovered the both apps "Galaxy SIP accounts" and "Galaxy SIP settings" in an article, downloaded them from playstore, setup them in a minute and was totally happy.
Was glad that i could remove those other apps then.
Because my S7 starts to loosen its display now, i got myself another one and because i now knew that those two Galaxy SIP apps worked perfectly i installed them from the start being extremely disappointed about echoes and heavily distorted sound.
Then read this thread and thought i'd give it a try (because couldn't get the built-in client work properly anyway) and installed zoiper, did my phone call and everything worked smoothely.
Then i remembered that on the former phone i had external apps installed before as well.
So to me it seems that, at least on the S7 with Nougat/Oreo those external apps change something and make the hidden client work properly which can then be utilized with the two Galaxy SIP apps.
Now i have deinstalled zoiper but the VOIP client still works fine !
Hope my story gives useful information to someone as well

Hello,
is anyone else experiencing any issue with NFC on 5.1.9?
Looks like I'm not able to read my tags for some reason.
Pretty sure Android Pay worked after the upgrade, but didn't have a chance to test it today (I just found the issue with tags).
EDIT: Android Pay working fine but none of the Leap Card (Dublin's public transportation card) I tried seem to work.
Weird.
No I haven't. I've been using Google Pay since I've gotten the phone which I rooted day one. I'm on 5.1.9 rooted with TWRP and EX Kernel. Also works with stock kernel too. Maybe a clean wipe and install is in order if you continue to have issues?
I'm on 5.1.9 and I use an app to write to nfc stickers and it is working fine. Reads the stickers no troubles too...
This is very odd.
Android Pay works flawlessly, every single time.
But I've tried with three different NFC based Leap Cards and none of them is triggering the NFC.
Tried them on another phone and they're absolutely fine.
Will try to get a couple tags different tags and I'll try again.
Thanks for the feedback tho!
So, tried with a couple other tags and I can read and write no problem.
Some weird issue with the Leap Card chip...
works fine here.
I had the same issue until I went into settings- more - tap&pay - and changed 'Use default' to 'always', now it works for leap cards
Hello!
Right now when i receive a call, external display shows nothing. And i can't find any option how to enable it. When i open a lid, caller id shows as usual.
Is there an option to see incoming caller ID on external display at all? If yes, then how to enable it?
Thank you!
Under the cover screen section in Settings, there is an option to turn the screen on for notifications. I believe that needs to be enabled, but it will also enable turning it on for everything else.
Well, solved this. I didn't notice, that for many years i use not native Samsung dialing app. Till today used app "True phone", now switched to native Samsung app "Phone", and everything works fine.
Yep, I too have to set the Samsung phone app as default, but use True Caller wherever I can

May I ask what are the advantages of true caller? Being serious, I’ve been away from Android for several years now.

Off the top of my head I like the voice telling me who's calling before the ringtone, best spam call blocker I've ever used, easy call recording, great built in SMS, backup and restore and so on.

Thank you! Real quick, would you know of a streamlined way to transfer my data from iOS to my new phone when it gets here in Wednesday?

You might have to google that as I've never owned an Apple phone!

Smart Switch is available for iOS, but you may want to both back up the data using iTunes (or your preferred method) and double check everything it copies before deleting anything. It's not going to be the greatest because of the OS difference, but will work about as well as having someone at your local carrier shop do it.

Well I received my fold 3 and used Smart Switch. Worked perfectly and flawlessly. Thank you!
I have a gripe about the external screen and incoming calls. Seems sometimes it just plain old doesn't work and I have to open the phone to answer the call. Using the default Phone app.
Lame you have to use the Samsung phone app to make it work.
I guess change can be a good thing sometimes. lol.
