I bought a used Nexus S 4G from Sprint and I'm trying to activate it. Apparently the old user had rooted it and it can't be activated while rooted. So I UNrooted it back to stock and they still can't seem to figure out how to activate it. What are we missing?
Did you flash it back to stock un rooted gingerbread? If not do that. Then report back.

Did you re-lock the bootloader, and go completely stock? or just flash a stock rom?
You can try this, im pretty sure it locks the bootloader and goes completely stock as if it were out of the box.

i bought a rooted CWM 4G with some GB mod on it
i put a ICS rom on it just to figure it out
after a couple of days i couldnt stand it
[was still waiting on the OTA for my original 4G]
i went on line and activated it on my account
by entering the esn without issue...
your problem is not 'cause it's rooted
radio?
mismatched rom maybe?
i'd look elswhere
I am assuming there is not a line of service still attached to it?
If not try to swap the esn online as the previous poster suggested. When I bought mine used I tried to do it online and it said it worked but it did not complete the activation. I had to call Sprint and they walked me though a factory reset. Worked like a charm.

so like a kid in a candy store i got ahold of ROM manager and ODIN and started flashing cool looking roms..next thing i know, the t-mobile logo is popping up and i am a not-so-proud owner of a modded T-Mobile Captivate, no longer an ATT Galaxy S!
of course the t-mobile network uses different frequencies and the like, so the phone part of my phone stopped working...bummer! i grumbled as i flashed back to a ROM that worked with the ATT network (FUSION it is called) but apparently that ROM does not mess with the internal network settings thats why it worked so well initially it didnt change the stock cell internals...
so now i have a hybrid phone, half-tomobile half-att half Fusion, and it only picks us signals from the Edge network!!! i barely get any reception so it pretty useless...
so i need some help...i can i get this beast back into a condition where is will work as an ATT galaxy?? also, for whatever reason i cannot mount or download market apps to the phone tho it does pickup wifi connections...
any help/ideas appreciated...advTHANKSance!

Flash back to stock with odin 1 click. Or try just flashing a new modem with cwm.

ok...i finally fixed the mess i made by using this process...
manually set the modem/APK using this guide...may or may not have been needed in the end...

note..i used the old I897UCJH2 Firmware but the plan is to upgrade to JH6 tonight...
did a factory reset on the phone and BINGO...full working baseline phone. thanks for the help guys what a great site u run
Hello, this is my first time posting on the forums here.
Recently I flashed the latest version of MIUI on my Verizon Galaxy s3. I decided that I preferred my previous rom; Jelly Bean's Build 10, and I restored it to my phone. After restoring the rom, I got a message saying that I was roaming, even though I am still in the same area where service has been working flawlessly. The first thing I tried to do was change the network type under network settings to LTE/CDMA but that choice was already selected. Thinking that I had no other options, I restored the stock rom that I had backed up on my device and I got the same issue. Thinking I could just send the phone back to Verizon, I unrooted the phone using the built in unroot tool in SuperSu Pro. I am now unrooted, but forgot to reflash the stock recovery (I am still using TWRP). I am just wondering what I should do about the issue, and if I were to send it back to verizon, would they be able to tell that I have a custom recovery. Sorry for being a noob and any help would be much appreciated.
Update: I rolled back to my rooted stock ROM and I used triangle away to reset the custom flash counter. I have also reflashed the stock recovery onto my device. Even though my phone appears to be unmodified I still have the same issue.

This happened to me and what I had to do was ODIN to stock ICS rom and enter the code to reprovision sim. Google/forum search is your friend.
This is why Verizon locks down their phones! People who are not willing to search for a way to fix something that they screwed up is unacceptable. The bad thing is this phone is completely fixable with very little effort! Some people should not be allowed to flash anything!
I've dealing with so many issues ever since the DroidX so if there is one thing I've learned is there is ALWAYS a fix you may just need to do a little search if you can't find the resources your looking for on any of forums a simple google search will help you out.

i have a used mytouch 4g which i rooted, s-off and gfree for my mom. she does not need data. i was able to pop in her att sim card and i had to manually select AT&T as a registered carrier. but every now and then, it would unregister itself and i would have to manually go into settings and select at&t again. i did this for my friend awhile back and it was fine for her. the only thing different is the rom. she was using CM7 and my mom is using slim bean 4.2.2. could it be the rom or did i mess something up while unlocking the phone? the phone had 2.3.4, and i had to downgrade before i can s-off and run gfree. though it looks like everything completed sucessfully, her phone keeps getting unregistered.
Try a different rom. I would recommend the last cyanogen nightly; or someone else had compiled a newer version of it.
If not try Stepps AOSPx; its a stable ICS.
Definitely ROM issue as I gave my glacier to a friend who has att and its on the double shot ROM with no problems

I got my one SV k2_cl from boost a little over a month ago and got the bootloader unlocked and rooted, working fine until one morning it wouldn'tmake calls or texts. I tried to factory reset and when I tried to boot got stuck at the HTC logo. Took me 2 weeks to get it to even flash a Rom on here that will somewhat work. I've got WiFi and partial 3g 4g connectivity but no voice at all. When I try to use the phones its activation tool-error, tried manually programming phone- nothing. I'm stumped. Can someone please help me out here. Don't want to have to buy another phone if I can help it. The only guess I've got at the moment is that if I could get a stock original rom to flash I'd be good to go probably and just hold out on doing anything else to it until after the kitkat ota is launched. The few stock roms I've tried either wouldn't download for some reason or just won't flash right. Thanks in advance for any help guys. I've always been more of a hardware geek more so than software but I can usually muddle through following guides of course.

As a matter of fact I have tried that and unfortunetly the installer locked up on a reboot of the phone because the phone wants to do the "Android is upgrading # of #" on every boot. That was why I was thinking since adb/fastboot and the HTC One Toolkit all sorta work that if I could get ahold of a working stock rom to flash on there and I have a stock CWM backup still on my laptop from when I first got the phone rooted and everything working. But of course thanks for the tip anyway. I wish that would work. It seems to be the easiest way to install back to stock.
Okay so today I just flashed my phone from Sprint to PagePlus on the SM-G900P and I am curious to know if I can still install a different ROM without screwing up the flash to PagePlus? I paid PagePlusRemote to do it for me for $40 and they were pretty solid.
I would like to get rid of crappy Sprint stock ROM and put something better on my newly flashed phone. My phone is already rooted before the flash to PagePlus.
Any info on this would be great.

Yes, but if you receive error 7 or updater assert failure in recovery, you must then remove assert lines from ROM zip. READ HERE to show you how to remove them. Also theres a possibility of issues arising with mms and 4g.
