Look in the Development section for Captivate. One option is CM7 which you can get to by going to the link below, but I beleive there are more options than just this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978150
CM7 is still a beta and it is not true 2.3 it is a modded port/asop hibread with custom stuff added and removed.
Dont lie to the noobs.
Miui is also BUILT on CM7. so it is built on 2.3 but with different UI completely but will always be 1 step behind CM7 so its still beta as well (RC whatever f-off beta)
Search is your friend.
Thank You for your quick reply.

Rooting / CM7 / Etc Help

Hi,
Now that ive upgraded to gingerbread I want to start playing around with my phone a bit. Im new to Android so ive never rooted a phone before but after I root it I want to go with CM7. When I go on the cyanogenmod website under G2X there is no version under stable. Is everyone here who is running CM7 on their G2X running experimental? Also, what is the best way to root? I guess I could google it but I was hoping to get some advice from here.
Thanks

[Q] Samsung galaxy s i9000 noob asking

Hello xda forum! I am new and totally NOOB! I recently bought a galaxy s i9000 from a little research in the forum I decided that I have to root it because I am already having a lot of problems.. I am having now the original firmware from samsung(updated via kies) and I am in version 2.3.3 (basebend version I9000XXJVO and kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVI-CL210427 [email protected] #2 ...I have no idea what are those things!!! and build number GINGERBREAD.XWJVI) I want to root it on Ice cream sandwich! It look so cool and fast. but I have no idea how and which rom to choose because I saw 3-4 different in the forum.
So...
1. I want to learn how to root and what do I need.
2. I want your opinions on the ics roms (suggest me whats the best)
3. Is everyone have the same problem with the battery!?
4. If I done this and then I want to take the rom out is it possible?
I really thanks you for your time! and sorry if I created a same post..
more info about my phone (found them with a code):
GT-i9000HKDEUR
PDA I9000XWJVI
PHONE I9000 XXJVO
CSC I9000 XXJV9
Thanks again for everything!!!
1)To root your Galaxy S you can use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 quick and easy.
2) I personally have not used the ICS roms for SGS but this one seems to be the most stable one around http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398223
3) Battery issues plagued me when I got my SGS as well, I would suggest getting something like Juice Defender off the market it can greatly help out battery life
4) Yes it is possible to go back to stock firmware all you need to do is flash back the stock firmware which you can find through Google.
1)to root my galaxy I used a modded kernel like cf root or semaphore which give you the root permissions and cwm
2)i never tried a ics rom because i'll try one of them when they will become stable, i don't like beta/alpha roms
3)battery isn't very very good...i can arrive till 8 pm normally, but if i start playing, wifi, music...in 4 hours battery is ko
4)yes if you want to take the rom out, you can flash a stock firmware/rom
hope it helps
then tell me how it has gone
thanks guys for your answers..I will think about doing it..and if I have any other question I will ask you...really thanks from your help
I use and still testing the stock ICS and i have to say that you MUST not install it in my experience so far in a week it have some issues. I am a noob too but learning, and this is a very versatil phone to use and manage. Meanwhile i sugest to upgrade to oldEr versions of GINGERBREAD

[Q] How to Root Samsung Galaxy S 4G and Install Jelly Bean 4.3 (CyanoGenMod)

Hi Guys,
I am an IT person, but totally new to Android. I am having Samsung Galaxy S 4G (T959v) running GingerBread (2.3.6).
I had upgraded from Froyo to GingerBread using Kies mini... and since that I am facing a lot of issues running... like slow responsiveness, phone hangs, some times unable to make calls, very high RAM usage etc...
So to fix these issues, I am thinking to install custom ROM (Jelly Bean 4.3 - CyanogenMod 10.2). But I don't know how to do that.
What I read on thread is it first needs to ROOT the device, but I am not sure how to ROOT the device.
Please help me to ROOT the device in easy steps and install custom ROM.. (Off course without bricking my device )
Thanks.
Look at the second link in my signature. Instead of flashing the whole package just flash AntonX's kernel. Read the first couple of posts in the Heimdal thread and you will hopefully know what I am referring to.
From there, follow the directions in the OP of the ROM thread that you would like to flash. The OP will also tell you what works and does not work for that ROM.
I would suggest making a backup copy of your efs folder for the just in case..

[Q] Question about custom ROM developing (Help is needed)

Hello!
I am an AndroNoob and haven't done much. I just have rooted my phone, used odin twice and tried to get cyanogenmod. I have got the Samsung Galaxy Xcover (GT-S5690) and i really would like to have android 4.0+ on it or even run 4.0+ apps on it. After about 5 days of searching a custom ROM that works good and is android 4.0+, i decided to make my own one. I just want to ask you, is it possible to use android kitchen or something to just get the original rom from sammobile or some other place and just make it be ics/jb or get likes 4.0+ firmware for galaxy ace or something and make it work with my xcover? And if so, how easy will it be (Should i even start using/wasting my time on it)? And last if possible i would like to have the samsung style android
And i would be so happy if i can get it done, get my xcover run ics/jb!
Thanks for any help and sorry for my bad english.
