Getting the Most: Help me Decide-- Amaze, 3VO, S II.. - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I am looking to make a big purchase on a phone. I dont think I can choose just one and I think I may have to just have two and later decide after playing with both.
I have some money to spend and I want a quality phone. Last time I had money to spend on a phone, I mean real money $$$, I didn't know what phone to get, it was my first Android. Just a little explanation: I bought the new LG Optimus from Metro PCS and hated it, so I went to Tmobile and got their, at the time new, MyTouch 4G Slide, and I was having so many issues with it, they traded me out that with HTC Amaze.
Now I do enjoy my Amaze, but really I am not satisfied. So I think I am going to pass it down to my mom, or sister, and pick up one of these. I am still learning how to optimize my Android, so please understand thats why I would just like some opinions, and thank you.
In order of preference:
1. GALAXY S II
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1055
http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxys2/html/
After this one I am not sure what my preference is. I wanted the GALAXY S II because my friend has a fascinate and loves her to death. Next is really just guessing which phones I would like.
2. Epic 4G Touch
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SPH-D710ZKASPR
3. Verizon Droid Charge

6. Motorola Droid RAZR

http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/DROID-RAZR-BY-MOTOROLA-US-EN
7. HTC EVO 3D

8. GALAXY Note
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1493
http://phandroid.com/2012/02/05/att-samsung-galaxy-note-available-for-pre-order-today/
And then this is phone I currently have
HTC Amaze
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1316
http://htc.t-mobile.com/amaze-camera-phone
Honestly I am not sure of all what is out there. I would just like to choose a phone based mainly on performance. I am not watching very many movies, maybe now and then Youtube. Mostly I do web browsing, and talking/texting. I like the Amaze it just has some moments that I feel frustrated, and even though that may happen with another phone. I just feel there is a phone out there that is right for me. I looked through the specs of all these phones, and they have very similar features.
I want something thin, and light weight. The Amaze is thin, but it is a little heavy. I want a wider screen. A friend of mine put his EVO 3D up next to my Amaze and though they had the same height of display-- the EVO had less phone at the top and bottom, it was wider, and it was lighter. Although the specs are better on the Amaze.
Any other questions I can ask to help find which phone best suites my needs. I will post. I thought this thread could be useful to anyone searching these phones. I added the GALAXY Note at the end because I do alot of writing, but that might not actually fit on the list. Please suggest your phones if there are others. {not interested in Apple}

SII, for the hardware and the size.
And ofcourse the amount of ROM´s

Thanks, yep thata what I have been hearing. I wasnt sure if there was anything else that was giving the S II competition though. Looks like I'm picking that up. Also the GALAXY Note. I like it because its kind of like a tablet, but fits in your pocket. I wont get that for a few months later though. Anyways I will hit your "thanks" button when I can figure out how to do it from my phone.

I have the galaxy s2 and I love it. However, the DROID RAZR maxx seems like a really good phone and it is supposed to have great battery life. But the galaxy s2 is always a good choice.

Galaxy s2. Awesome performance + lightweight. My brother using it now. Outstanding !!

Well class I must say I have just come upon the GALAXY Nexus. yes, let me say that again...
**Edit** actually I have to say after reading over some of the specs and features of the GN, I still have to go with the GSII. I was debating between that and the Epic Touch 4G, Nexus... but the SGSII really has everything I want. I love that it is 4.27" and not so gody at 4.53" or 4.7" like some of these other ones. 4.3" is perfect, and I will also get the Galaxy Note at 5.3" to use for a big one.
Also it looks like the SGSII actually has better specs than these other ones as a whole. If I find out it can run on Ice Cream Sandwhich, then theres not contest.

Is this a Good Phone

Im looking into buying a nexus s and just wanna see what ppl on these forums have to say about it. Overall is it a good phone? how's the rooting process hard? Does rooting vastly improve it like it did my hero? General opinions on the phone?
Thanks for any input
Like you, I came from a HTC Hero. Rooting isn't necessary to squeeze more performance from the nexus s compared to the hero. Having said that, it is strongly recommended to root it because it allows you to do so much more on the nexus s. In terms of performance wise, rooting does not "vastly" improve the performance.
General opinions of the phone are its great! Go get it.
The rooting process is extremely simple. Go do a quick search on the forums.
Great phone. Fairly easy to root. The guides available are great as long as you follow it verbatim. The phone itself is fast as is and has large internal memory for apps. Rooting is worth it IMO. The extra overclock and undervolt keeps the phone always running fluid and increases battery life significantly.

Im getting another one this will be my 3rd. Its def a keeper. Vanilla and constant updates 1st

Yeah hero is probably the worst effin phone ever made in the history of all phones so any upgrade is a blessing.
And yes, the hero sucked so many balls. The slowest laggiest POS ever.

I actually thought Hero sent the trend on how Android devices should look and function.
Anyway, imo, nexus s is the best android phone, I just got one yesterday, samoled version (dislike slcd), I love everything about the phone. It even performs better than my brother's HTC Sensation even with its dual core.
my next phone will either be the next nexus or galaxy s3.
Please delete this post.
I have the galaxy s vibrant. Would you guys still recomend me to get the nexus s? I can get one at a very good price.. But im wondering if its worth the change. Any input is welcome
Edit: sorry for the thread highjack, thought of posting here rather than creating a new thread.

I love my Nexus S (coming from an HTC Magic), but if you already have a Galaxy S, I don't think it's worth the trouble: they have pretty much the same hardware inside. In addition, IIRC, Galaxy S has Gorilla glass, a SD card slot, FM radio and 720p recording.
The best thing about the Nexus S is that it's vanilla Android, constantly updated and officially supported by Google. It has NFC, which the Galaxy S doesn't have, and gets better support from app developers as well. I didn't need all those hardware features the Galaxy S had: I just wanted *the* Google phone :-D.
Basically, the Nexus line is much better supported than the Galaxy S line, but if you're in XDA, I guess you won't mind flashing a vanilla ROM to your Galaxy S.
Thanks for your reply. You made good points on my deciding factor. But even if im on xda, i hate having to flash my phone all the time (my sgs is stock). I just want the latest version of android.
Here's the thing.. Someone wants to buy my sgs for $300. I have credits on my account and could get the nexus s for $308 all in. Or i can just save my credits and let it accumulate over the next few months to buy a better phone. But im really itching for a stock vanilla android phone. Decisions decisions...

Stay with Galaxy S. As soon as you go to Nexus S, you will miss your Galaxy S. IMHO, Nexus S is a downgrade from Galaxy S. I did this mistake but within 2 weeks gladly came back to Galaxy S. But if you are too itchy, buy Nexus S and compare both head on head. Know the difference yourself and get rid of the one you find inferior compared to the other.

I dont think it is a downgrade, i think the point in android world is " you cant have everything"... sure, sgs has a lot of features that we dont have in nxs, but nxs also has some things over sgs... and you need to decide what you are looking for, what comes first for you...
I came from a desire hd, that in specs is worse of nxs, and i am pretty much satisfeid with it. I guess the point is: it's good to look specs, but it is only half part, the other half is about daily usage.
Back to the question, if i were you i would wait a little bit more, swap for a nealy phone, more than 6 months old... maybe you can get a sgs II or wait for the new nexus prime, i just dont know if it a good idea.. =o)

I think the only additional thing Nexus S has is flash. I have my own reservations about the quality of HTC phones after using HTC Desire for few weeks. But if the choice is between SGS and NS, SGS clearly has an edge. But again, its individual's choice. Whatever works the best for you.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Absolutely disagree. I've had the vibrant for the last 9 months and thought it was awesome but then the lag gets unbearable because of the file system. I went in with my brother and dad and got a family plan and we got the nexus s since I thought that would be the best (hulu, Netflix, etc all came out first for it) and you get software updates first too from Google. And the phone is wicked fast. I thought I would miss touchwiz and all the quirks but you know what I did for like 3 days. And the battery life on this sucker is amazing. I think its a great buy especially for me. But each his own. People have different wants and needs and everybody needs to do their research before buying and investing in something so expensive.

Well I do not disagree. Galaxy S does need a little bit of tweaking to get the full performance out of it. All I did with my SGS was to install JVO 2.3.4, root it and this changed it to a totally different phone. Yes, I use stock gingerbread launcher and keyboard instead of touchwiz or Samsung keyboard. All of this takes hardly 30 minutes.
Nexus S is definitely fast out of the box. But gorilla glass, FM radio, expandable memory slot, better video recording give SGS an edge over NS. SGS just needs half an hour more to reveal its potential.

I wrote a review to answer this first post.
Here is a review I put together as I had same initial questions. Hope it helps.
My first experience with android was rooting a Hero, since then I enjoyed a year with a rooted EVO, but after several boot-looping experiences which I was unable to correct, the phone had become unusable, and I was forced to choose a new phone a little more premature than I would have liked. I had my heart set on the specs of the Galaxy S II but after enjoying two HTC phones and how easily they were rooted I also leaned toward the EVO 3D. I will admit here, that I was a “flash-aholic” when it came to trying out new ROMs and kernels, and would probably continue to have been so if it weren’t for the boot-loop and force closing problem I was having.
I decided to go ahead and get a Sprint Nexus S 4G instead of waiting another ten days for the EVO 3D, knowing that if I didn’t have a good experience with the Nexus, I could return it within the 30 day trial period. The Sprint rep. was very helpful and honest with his assistance, he showed me that the Nexus even in the store was not picking up as good a signal as the EVO 4G, and I expressed concern about receiving signal at my residence, as frequently I had to step outside in the back yard to have a phone conversation using the EVO.
Initial setup of the Nexus was surprisingly easy, but just as suspected the signal at home was weak, though not any worse than the EVO. A call to Sprint tech support the next day helped when they offered to send me an Airave unit, which I received in only one week and found a dramatic improvement for not only my phone but my wife’s EVO as well. Thank you Sprint!
My next adventure was whether or not to root this phone, as I held off until I decided I was going to keep it. It was a little bit of a challenge for me to set up adb capabilities on my computer but worth the research. So I was now set up to make the root possible, however, reading up on the Nexus didn’t convince me that rooting was to my best advantage at this time, so I have held off. The signal problem had been resolved, my battery life has been great, my phone is extremely fast, and tethering works right out of the box, most importantly is everything works well without bugs or any other problems. This doesn’t mean I won’t root when I see a clear advantage in the future, and fortunately rooting the Nexus is as easy as it can get.
Instead I have used ADW EX customizations to optimize this phone for my best android experience, and it is this point convincing me to keep it. The Nexus S has none of the Sprint bloat-ware profligation, and none of the manufacturer skin-ware. Using ADW EX and android widgets, I was able to customize my Nexus to suit my needs perfectly. The best part of the experience is that I got to choose how my phone worked, and my phone now operates exactly how I want it to, I might also mention that Launcher Pro would work very well also. Ah, the beauty of android.
Later the next week I went into a local RadioShack to have hands-on time with the EVO 3D to make certain I had made the best choice. I did that Sense 3 twirl thing and the rep mentioned the limitations of Nexus screen scrolling, I showed him that my phone also had infinity scrolling. He was surprised and didn’t go any further.
Sure the latest summer phones have better specs, more powerful hardware, and unique features (3D), but for me at least, they don’t really make for a better android experience than a Nexus. Here is a list of widgets I have included on my screens.
Agenda widget keeps an excellent display of my appointments.
Springpad for notes and general organization uses.
Google+ widget, as well as android system widget for general phone info.
I use Jorte calendar to fill up one entire screen.
The control widget for quick access to phone controls.
The Starbuck coffee widget cause I gotta admit, I like my coffee.
Skype video calls work excellently and I use it frequently since most phone users still don’t have Google Talk video. I have combined Facebook with Twitter using Tweetdeck, and this app I keep in an easily accessible hidden dock which contains many of my frequently used apps, one of the best features of ADW EX and used by many ROMs such as Cyanogen.
The overall flow and performance of the phone is flawless, handling multi-functioning easily, Bluetooth works very well, wi-fi at home and at my local Starbucks is good, pictures are adequate and the general feel of the phone is sleek without giving up that much on size coming from an EVO slab phone user. The idea that updates get pushed out to Nexus phones before anyone else will keep me a happy user for some time to come as the Nexus is a developer’s phone hence new applications often come to this phone first, the recent case of Skype video calling is a great example.
What do I miss most, or wished improved? I must admit I do miss that EVO kickstand, which was a nice feature though I can’t help but think it would mess with the sleekness of the Nexus. The missing sd card hasn’t been an issue for me, but I suppose it could be for others. There are times I still miss the LED notification light, though that is minor thing. I have read others complain of the back being slick and a fingerprint magnet, but I stuck an Egrip strip with a cool image to help in handling the phone better and reduce the space for smudges.
Are there better phones out there this summer? Sure, if you go by hardware specs, so if photo quality is important to you with a better camera and more features such as 3D, or if you just can’t live without that LED notification light, the Nexus may not be for you. A dual core phone is slightly faster, but hardly noticeable and does 1 second or less really make that much difference? Do they make better use of the android system though? In my opinion this is where the Nexus excels and for me that is the true strength of this phone and why I suggest giving it a serious consideration.
I would probably keep the galaxy s in favor of the nexus s, mainly because of the browser-lag issue in the nexus. It is a great phone, but I don't think vanilla android brings to the table that much you should sell your galaxy. Hardware wise you would be gaining nothing.
You almost might as well wait for the next nexus that probably will come at the same time as ice-cream sandwich (Q4). Nexus is nice because you get the updates almost immediately, but Google has indicated that there will be no major updates before the launch of ICS. So why not wait for the phone that launches with ICS?
i just LOVE nexus s... Fast smooth amazing battery life, bought it two days ago and i completely fell in love with it. Coming from htc sense i thought vanilla would feel a little "vanilla" but no sir, the speed and the battery pays off sure if ur a guy who likes to use camera a lot then sgs might be a better option, but for all other things i believe sns is better. plus the curved screen is sexy
of course, most people here recognize this phone as good one. you know this phone even been to Space. how great.. haha

What do you think is the Best Android phone?

Hello all, I'm starting this to get opinions of what people think is the best android phone and the reasons they think it's the best. I'm looking to get a new phone and would like other peoples input on what phone is best, since there are a lot of options available. I know everything is an opinion when it comes to a phone. Just say what you think the biggest pros are and the biggest cons are. Admin, If I started this thread in the wrong place apologize!
I've had 3 android phones, all with t mobile. The G1, nexus one and the samsung galaxy s(vibrant). I still have all of them!
Now in my opinion the nexus one has been the best for installing modified ROM'S, With the least amount of issues and ease of unlocking with all hardware working. The downside is the screen size and the flipping power button keeps breaking!
Now my second option is the samsung galaxy s. I like the dimensions of the phone and the screen size is awesome. But with modified kernels and a crappy GPS antenna you still have GPS issues.
So come one come all, leave your input let's see what phone you think is the best on the market today!

specially the SGS2 HD version
The Galaxy Nexus.
HTC Wildfire S
I was also thinking on the same lines... tho I think people should be careful as to what their suggesting... I don't think this thread is based on "what phone do you own, hence think is the best "... because I'm sure as **** the Wildfire S is by far not even close to the best android... maybe the best cheap android phone... but definately not the best...
If you think a phone is the best... then why do you think so... you need to have a valid reason...
As far as I'm concerned I want to change phones as well... at the moment the S2 seems to be at the top of the hill... I was sure I would get the galaxy nexus but after seeing the utterly disappointing specs... a crappy camera, no expandable memory, and a TI processor rather than a exenos is just a major letdown...
Tho in the upcoming phones seems the Droid Razr is supposed to be a beast and the S2 HD seems to be awesome... but iit looks like will need to wait a while for them... not to.mention the s2 HD will only be released in Korea...??? :s
Its actually quite strange phones are getting bigger and bigger... they just wont seem to fit in pockets soon... I thought a 4 inch screen is perfect... tho 4.2 is really pushing it... but 4.6... I'm not really into wearing clothes twice my size to be able to fit my damn phone in my pocket
What does anyone suggest based on facts... wait for the nexus... or the S2 HD... or just go for the S2...

I've favored HTC phones. I've personally owned the Droid Inc, Inc2, and the moto Droid. I've had my hands on quite a few different ones. I think the Inc Is my favorite . Samsung has good phones, but I like the HTC's better.
XDA App. DInc 2 PoWeReD
Best android phone ever? As an early adopter I'd say the g1, that thing was supported for a looooong time given the average lifespan of android phones, the form factor, while thick, is still one of the coolest to date with android, and I believe you could get it all the way to gingerbread despite being a severely dated device. Next to the HD2 it is my favorite tinkering phone. The best right now, likely the gs2, I don't have much love for the current devices but the hardware on the razr is looking pretty sexy. I have a thing for thin phones. That's why my next device will be a Nokia 800 but that's a story for another thread.
Tl;dr? G1, GS2, razr droid.
For someone like you just get a Galaxy S ii and call it a day.

Please thank me if I helped.
well it depends upon what specs you want to have(and brag about).
IMO, there's no such thing as 'best Android phone' because having the 'best' phone is always subjective.
If you want the highest specs on a phone, you can look at the flagship phones.
If you want to be unique, choose a less well-known brand.
If you want to customise, there's plenty.
If you want to have a good-looking UI, SE arc or ray would do
mine.

[Q] whats phone would u get nowadays

Hey People,
I now own an htc diamond 2 I had it for 2 years. It has been broken about 7 times! All within warranty but still it’s too much.
End of this month I can renew my contract with my mobile provider, and I can order a new phone.
But I have no idea what phone to choose.
Can someone give me some pointers in what phone I can choose from?
It doesn’t have to be brand new.
Must have:
Exchange support.
Camera at least 5mp.
Gps.
Must be quite fast while browsing.
Android or iPhone??.
I know there are many comparison sites but I rather here it from daily users.
So please tell me why your phone or the phone u mentioned is the right choice.
Samsung Galaxy S2 still seems to be the best, imho. Fast, thin, light, great screen. The only thing I wasn't sure about when I got it was the relatively low resolution, but it actually hasn't bothered me even though I came from an iPhone 4 with a retina display.
The Galaxy Nexus might also be something to look at, although I'm not terribly impressed with the specs.
I'm waiting for the new Google Nexus, what do you think about it?
I got a Galaxy S2 and I love it. The phone is nice and there is a lot of help on it. the community on that phone is pretty active.
Go for the sgs2 just got one the other day my self and im very happy the speed and friendly flashing is great.
+1 for the galaxy S2
Galaxy S2, no contest.
i say wait a couple weeks and get a galaxy nexus. the specs may not be the best, but the hardware acceleration and software make it better than just about anything else you could get.
I'd say wait for the Galaxy Nexus, though it's going to be super costly I think.
A mid-range awesome phone would probably be HTC Desire S. I own it, I love it.
So, if you can wait and pay enough for the Galaxy Nexus it's going to be worth the wait. Else go for the Desire S.
Galaxy S2 again is awesome, but awesomeness is not cheap.

Compare the amount of iphone developement threads with the amount of android developement threads on xda-developers...
sounds like samsung nexus is gonna be more like iphone in that no external sd card and no removable battery. Kudos for icecream sandwhich but do you wanna be the ghinea pig for software that is bound to have some probs in the beginning? It seems like sg2 is the ultimate phone so far: it has removable card, option to replace battery better hardware, camera and will surely get android 4.0 when everything has been ironed out. I only wish verizon picked up the sg2

Have been playing with the HTC Rezound and it is one powerful beast. I have ave to say it is best phone out there. If you have been waiting for the ultimate phone with a Verizon plan wait no longer for that nexus myth when there is a phone like this. Just my two cents ;-)

[Q] new phone advice?

hi guys n girls
looking at getting a new phone tomorrow and just wondering what u guys would recomend
ive been looking at the htc evo 3d
the galaxy s 2
and the galaxy note
really not interested in an iphone though as i hate apple
any advice would be greatly recieved,
many thanks
steve
ps current phone is the galaxy s 1
I have an Evo 3D and enjoy it, the Galaxy 2 is excellent as well. The Note is not in the US yet, but I plan on getting one soon. AT&T looks like they will have it first, though I somewhat prefer Verizon.
At the end of the day there are a lot of good phones, it depends on what the carrier has. I could go either way on AT&T and Verizon, so I'll probably go with whoever get's the Note/Journal first.
galaxy s2 if u want good performance and nice phone
Hi Steve,
Well you said it all by saying the names of the candidates. I wouldn't get the HTC because either SGS2 and Note have a really good performance (better than HTC Evo 3D i'd say), also i've known HTCs for having bad camera performances..
I have the SGS2 and it's just amazing, i love how smooth and fast it is.
If you want a bigger screen then you know the Note is for you, you can also use it to make drawings and stuff like that if you're creative or in the other way around, if you want 3D, the HTC is your phone.
In my opinion i'd get the SGS2, i don't really like HTC phones because of their UI and not really good performances overall.
EDIT: also, the SGS2's camera is really good imo, i love its quality and the videos are stunning as well. Don't forget how thin and light it is!
Good luck on your decission
Galaxy note is better if you like a big screen
thanks for the replies,
just thought are there any other phones (uk market) that anyone would recomend over these
i do like the idea of a large screen and also like the idea of 3d photos
y do they make it so hard to choose now lol
cheers
steve
Lol yeah, you could check LG phones or Sony Ericsson Experia (or future Sony only Experia), but i don't recommend LG because of their bad SO update reputation
There's a lot to choose, but my suggestion is the SGS2 or Note.
Depends on your price. I had a galaxy s 2. But the forums were full of idiots and noob questions. Plus being honest what the hell is the point in all that power when battery isn't the best.
Anyhow Bought a nexus s unlocked from cpw for 199 and put the extra 150 towards a holiday. And now I have a gorgeous looking phone with a great community behind it. And great support from Google. No UI over the the phone. So despite not being dual core. Its fast.
And don't even start about quadrant!!!!!! Lol

forgot to mention my budget , i can get any phone i wish on contract over here for free so money is no issue
Wait for those A15 cores!
I love HTC products, but of that list the G SII is the best choice... in my opinion.
I'm assuming you're on Sprint?

either way you go let me know what you think of either one. Im in the same situation over here lol. Im using the original EVO right now so I'm leaning toward the Evo 4g LTE, but the that new galaxy sIII and Galaxy Nexus are both looking really sweet to me. But good luck with your decision.
If I'm correct Sprint has that whole 30 days to see if you like the phone or not before giving you a full refund. If thats still the case I'll probably try them both lol
To be honest with you I absolutely love HTC's Sense UI. I also prefer the build quality and materials in HTC devices to Samsung's (Not to say that Samsung has inferior build quality.)
I know that the EVO has the Snapdragon processor and the GS3 has an Exynos (?) but from what I understand, when the GS3 ships for Sprint etc it will have the same snapdragon processor for LTE.
Honestly I think you should maybe wait and play around with botch devices, if it's an option.
Sprint's return policy is only 14 days. I think it was changed last year.
i just signed with sprint a week ago you have 14 days to cancel contract, 30 days to swap phones i have the evo 4g lte and this phone is nice. I was using this until the gs3 arrived then just swiping this phone with that. That was my plan but i like this phone alot. My gf just joined sprint and she got the gs2 until the gs3 comes out then she swapping phones too. Me personally i think this evo is better the screen is vibrant great viewing angles and look way better than the gs2 screen. The evo camera is amazing with all the features it have i would miss them if i got the gs3. For me battery last all day no lie that's wifi sometimes gaming, youtubes, texting, calls. Im full charge at 7am and when i put it on the charger at night before bed around 11 or 12 im roughly 30% atleast for a week its been accurate. The only thing that i see is the ram difference i don't know if it well make a big enough difference to change my mind ,but my girl friend will Get the gs3 and ill play with hers for a few days and make my decision. Another thing touchwiz is ugly compared to sense 4, i would put stock Android on that gs3 fast.

from what i read online the Evo is suppessed with 1gb of ram(usable) while the G3 has 2.
The G3 also has a bigger screen (not that you would really notice) with a variance of about .1
As far as the G3 feeling cheaper in your hands...
I know the evo is about 3 grams lighter than the G3 and are both made of quality material. which is weird compared to the OG and the facsinate there was a noticable difference in weight and feeling, with the OG feeling more sturdy and heavier. The Sammy was feeling like i could easily break it.
I have been in love with my OG since day 1 and have loved the SenseUI, But now i feel the need for change.
I'm going to be getting G3 due to the hardware. As far as looks go, I dont care to much for touchwiz but on the other hand, roms are being ported left and right around here, It shouldnt be to hard to get your hands on what you are looking for.
The end result is going to be up to please let us know what you end up going with. i will also report back here and let people know if i made the right choice.
htc evo 4g lte all the way!!!
Design and build quality over specs
The gs3 is no way near a "cheap" build or feel, actually it's quite awesome. U need to get it in your hands and play with it for little while(1 hour or 2) and the blue one is beautiful.
Camera is a lot better than gs2(emphasize lot) and the soundchip is wolfson(voodoosound) it can't get any better.
But yeah touchwiz is ugle as h...(pardon my french).but better rom support(custom roms) than gs3,doesn't exist, already at least 5 custom roms and 4 kernels is out and a whole lot more is rolling out.
The pentile screen isn't that bad(i feared the worst) and from what i understand an improvement is in dev.(also supercurio)
I went for gs3.
But Don't deside before u have tried them both
hi
SGS3 all the way..dont waste ur money on a htc
i got a sgs3 and it`s amazing
Get the evo so you will forever hate your pals who knew better.

Question. I watched a YouTube video on the S3 last night and saw all the cool gestures you can do. Double tap the top of the phone to scroll up, put phone to face to call via messages, put palm over the phone to mute music and many more. What can the Evo Lte do in terms of these type of features. I know what sense look like but i need more.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
You need to look at the specs and build quality of both. The S3 is made of plastic but according to all of the reviews it feels solid. The S3 also allows you to add more storage and to swap out the battery. If none of this matters to you then go for the HTC.
Doc
I will go with EVO. HTC is better phone..At home..MY TV, dvd , blu ray and surround are Samsung...but phones HTC is the way to go.
I had the Evo 4G for a year, and then purchased the Samsung Epic 4G Touch because the Evo 3D didn't do a thing for me, and I actually thought the 3D was no where near an upgrade to the Evo 4G, which was Great!
I really like the SET4G, and look forward to seeing the Samsung Galaxy S3 in the store.
I went into a Sprint Store earlier, and to my surprise, the sales guy couldn't push the Evo 4G LTE hard enough on me.
I explained that I was waiting to see the S3 in store when it arrived, and would probably purchase it, if LTE was coming online sooner, rather than later.
The Sales guy was like, but the Evo 4G LTE is so much better.
I asked why is that? You don't even have the S3 yet?
He said that the display is really much better than the S3, and that it's no comparison.
What?!
Even if the Evo 4G LTE display is slightly better, it's not as big a deal as this guy made it sound.
Obviously the guy was trying to make a sale, but jeeze, putting down the S3 the way he was, was so unbelievable, that you couldn't believe anything this guy was saying about either device.
I explained the removeable battery, in addition to that the pentile screen was pretty good. He said that it's the same display as the SET4G, and it's not that good.
I explained that the SET4G was Super Amoled Plus, and the S3 was Super Amoled. but the Pixel density was much higher, and the reviews were pretty good for the display.
I said there are articles that are blown out of proportion regarding the tremendous difference in the displays of the S3 and the Evo 4G LTE, and that it sounds like some people have been reading them lol!
Anyway, I'm most likely going to go with the S3 because:
1) it has a 2100mAh Removeable battery
2) it has 2GB of RAM
3) it has a 32GB internal memory option
4) I like the color Blue
5) I believing that HTC locks down their phones much more than Samsung, regarding S-Off, Rooting, etc.
The sales guy said he also had the Samsung Epic 4G Touch but really likes the Evo 4G LTE so much better.
Well, the SE4GT is already a year old. Let's compared Oranges to Oranges when the S3 arrives.
I asked him if he knew about the show in Boston tonight, when the S3 is revealed for 2 hours?
He said no.
Really?
He said that they are usually the last to know about those things.
That I can believe with my experience with this guy.
He walked away, and I compared my display with the Evo 4G LTE display regarding brightness, and the colors of the app draw icons, knowing that the Evo 4G LTE has an HD display.
I made sure the brightness was at 100% on both.
The colors really popped on the SET4G, compared to the colors on the Evo 4G LTE, which appeared washed out.
I called the Rep over to take a look.
I said to him look at how these colors Pop on the Samsung.
He immediately said that the Brightness needs to be 100% on the Evo, and went into Settings. I told him I already set it.
He said that the Brightness is not that important. He continued and said look at this Video. He put on the Rihanna video.
I said that I understand that the Evo 4G LTE has an HD screen, and besides, my SE4GT is a year old.
I continued and said I need to see the S3 display in person. But that I didn't think that it was going to be a deal breaker, one way or the other. He said we'll see when it comes out.
Anyway, the Sprint Store Rep sounded like he was reading from the Atnt Evo One script, explaining to customers what the Evo advantages are item by item, when asked, as compared to the S3.
If you hadn't seen that Memo, it's pretty funny.
I'm not an HTC or a Samsung diehard.
I'm for whatever device seems to be the better one, as determined by Hands-on,
Reviews, Feedback and more Reviews, as long as they're not written by the Sprint Sales Rep I had today lol!
What I mean is that when the Evo 4G came out, I waited a few months to see how it panned put. I determined that this was a Fantastic Device, and purchased it. The Evo 4G lived up to its Reputation.
Then the HTC EVO 3D came out, and I thought that it was a mediocre device at best, no matter what the HTC diehards were saying. I believe I made a wise choice not purchasing that device.
Then the Samsung Epic 4G Touch was available, I went into the store, read the reviews, and I was blown away by it.
Then the HTC Evo 4G LTE was made available, and right away, the non removable battery was a deal breaker for me. I didn't see what the benefits to this were.
Oh yeah, the Atnt memo says that the S3 is susceptible to getting Dust inside, and it's susceptible to water damage.
Yeah, my removeable battery devices are caked with Dust, and the Batteries are in need of a Life Preserver lol!
I read about the S3 and thought that this was going to be my next device.
I'll wait till it arrives, go into the store and have some experience with it, and read the reviews.
But as I mentioned, I doubt I'll give up my SE4GT, which now gets 4G service.
If I purchased an LTE device, I'll be relegated to only 3G Signal, which is Damn Slow, until I can take advantage of LTE, when Sprint decides to get those Towers up and running for the Masses.
We all know what happened to Wimax :-(
Btw, the Rep said that the LTE towers are being Tested in NYC and thinks they'll be up by the end of the month.
I said end of the month?
I read that they're talking about 2013.
He said he meant by the end of the Summer.
Uh, ok.
Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with either device, but my preference is for the S3 for some of the reasons stated.
I do have to wait till I see it though.
Sorry for being long in the tooth, But that's how I roll
As a Sprint employee..
I'm a huge fan of HTC. Had the original EVO and the 3D. And I get to play with the EVO 4G LTE everyday at work. I am really interested in the SIII tho because I love the SII. And the fact that it will have voice command similar to SIRI, it makes it even more appealing. They basically have the same specs and the main differences will be the Beats Audio in the EVO and then the voice command in the SIII. The screen will be a tiny bit bigger in the SIII so that's a plus to be because I adore big, bright screens. So, when we get the new SIII in, I will definitely play with it before I choose I'd suggest doing the same. As of now, I'm personally thinking SIII
