[Q] [Question] - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

What rom do you users think is the best for the Sidekick? I currently am using the ADW Quietly Brilliant one and it restarts a lot on me, but I am having hard time deciding which one to switch to.

This device tends to ***** out regardless of the ROM. Glorious Overdose tends to last the longest... been 3 days since my last re-flash. Glorious rocks launcher pro... not quite ADW but works hehe

iv been running GOV2 since it came out with 0 problems. but if you want a super light ROM GCV2 is also very stable.
BTW this should be in general.

Invest in mybackup, its the best app backup app I've use , makes switching roms seamlessly. Better than titanium.

No, I don't have my phone OC'ed. If you heavily use you're phone you'd experience random reboots. If you think about it, they're not really random, just overload reboots.... but mostly only on Glorious Overdose. All of revolutions roms overload reboot. His ics rom randomly reboots....

[Q] Rom comparison chart?

Hi,
Is there a ROM comparison chart somewhere for Nexus S?
I'm looking forward to a ROM, which is:
based on 2.3.4.
has a notification power widget.
has 3G SIP calling.
(sort of) stable.
fast.
Some nice to have features:
Lock-screen tweaks.
Battery percentage hack.
Permission management.
Any ideas?
CM7 nightly seemed to be a good choice, but it freezes time to time.
I am using infin1ty. Solid as a rock and fast too.
I think it fulfils your wish list.

Thanks for the tips! I've just flashed the latest infin1ty.
There are some nice touch, like working Video Chat and a nice Battery icon, but two things bug me:
Skype crashes
Seems laggy to me a little, even laggier when CM7 nightly.
I'll keep trying it and we'll see...
Balázs
I've been running Infin1ty for a few days, upgraded to the new version this morning and really no lag on my end. Hated the battery icon so built a new one in UOT Kitchen and now it's looking good.

no idea about skype.
i played arround a bit with the cpu settings (No-frills CPU control) and voltage settings (proton) and i got a really smooth fast and stable rom. so just give it a try
I prefer CM7 never had any freezing issues.
I use with ogdobber 2.3.4 kernel

The current CM kang coupled with morfics UV kernel is running so incredibly fast!
Not to mention I haven't experienced ANY stability issue as of yet!

Just give them all a test ride and see which one you like best. I'm on superasop ATM and so far it's been the snappiest rom I've tried. Still not perfect though.
It has everything in your list though.

Use benchmark in the android market.
Just to give this a bump as I'm looking for the same thing as OP but would like to know more about what everyone thinks. I m on cm7.0.3 atm and its really frustrating how it restarts out of the blue or gets into a bootloop. with the features listed by the OP, which rom is the most stable?
Good idea...
SuperAosp has been really, really good to me. I did an original wipe and reinstall a month ago, and it is has been really good and snappy ever since, even through non-wipe upgrades to ROM.

I'm using ZuluZulu rom, fast and stable. Tried lot of cm based roms but this one is almost no random reboot like cm.

I've just flashed SuperAosp. First impressions:
Really nice icons and theme.
Nice animations!
Video chat is nice, but it works only one way. I can see both myself and the called party on the phone, but the called party cannot see me on Gmail. Might not be related to the ROM, though.
ROM Manager is crashing. I can live without that app, though.
Very laggy. I expect the operating system to react immediately, but sometimes it lags for 1 sec or more when the system is busy. This is most probably due to I/O scheduling issues.
I'll probably give other ROMs a try as well.

Well even a stock rom gets a random reboot, just give it time. As long as a rom doesn't random hung or reboot in a call that's a keeper for me. Anyway you have your own idea on what you want in a rom. Hope you find one.

I did a clean install of Weapon. Rebooted and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rebooted again and let it sit. Then I flash New Clip and let it sit for a bit. New Clip flashes over Weapon. Then I flashed my favorite theme. Stayed with the kernel that comes with it. I have never had great luck with alternative kernels and I really have no need for overclocking.
Kwes has an ICS like theme that looks great. Then I added ADW ex and loaded an ICS theme for it. I am very happy with the setup. Been running it this way for several months.
I have been playing around with the V6 Super Charger script but for whatever reason I seem to run out of memory faster when web surfing. I am still learning about everything it does, so I am not 100% sure that it is set up correctly for my needs.

Using latest version of Eaglesblood with faux kernel. It's stable, and battery life is awesome. I'm not into ROM swapping. When find one that works, I stick with it, and it's looking like I'll be with this one for a while. Maybe when an ICS ROM gets refined, I'll give it a go. I would like to have Chrome on the android.

Still a fan of CM7/Cm9.
I can honestly say, I'm sticking to the G2X despite having a Galaxy GS2. I truely enjoy the Cyanogen ROMS and can't wait for it to come CM9 on G2X and GS2
Also that Samsung is too big. Should have waited. Not sure I'll get any device over 4 inch screen. But thats me

Fastest rom? I just want no redraws and lag, always had this problem!

I did the 5 steps to make phone snappier and I noticed that my phone is now faster I used to always gey redraws rather frequently, but I still get redraws, enough to still bother me. Advice on how to be faster? I am on stock FP1 rooted using twl.launcher as my main launcher and would like to keep this setup. I am willing to switch roms or anything, all I want is zero redraws, really hate it

Jellybean is the only thing that going to get you to a point where you can reasonably get "no lag." Even the newer dual-core phones on ICS get laggy from time to time, and it's worse on this phone. The best you're going to do on this phone is mitigate it.

right.
but I really do not have an lag or redraw issues. part of the trouble shooting is to reduce the number of apps on your phone and on the screen. I place all of my apps in folders and thus have no redraw issues since. some launchers like GO and HOLO help too.
Ehm...I never get redraws unless I restart the launcher manually. Use V6 Supercharger.

V6 "works" on FP1 in that it applies successfully, but I've never run V6 on this phone that it didn't run like complete crap after a few days. I've played with recent versions of the V6 script and found them to be even worse for me than the older versions. I know kvswim says he has no issues, but it kills my performance worse than anything else I've ever done.
Yeah, it's really odd that it works perfectly fine for some and just makes things worse for others.

I can imagine it being down to the use case. The script changes OOM groupings of apps which causes them to be killed in a different order than default. Regardless of how Zep advertises it, that's probably not a one size fits all proposition. I know I strongly disagree with the logic of some of the ICS regroupings that he seems quite proud of.

I agree with you about the gps. The first time I mentioned it, people came down on me with a vengeance. So, I stopped mentioning it. Sure, my gps with ICS worked... after like 15 minutes. I tried all the roms, and they all took that long to lock. With GB, it takes like 10 seconds.
I'm sure this post alone will bring more people to come down on me with a vengeance regarding the gps.

Just to be sure I didn't jump the gun, I backed out brought up GPS and bam in less than five seconds GPS fully loaded. Battery life is great, stability is wonderful, and all on ICS. Of course I long press the back button to kill all non essential apps too save battery and ram. Also while using titanium backup, I double check to ensure I'm not restoring any system apps and data from previous roms, because that can bring on irritating problems.

[Q] stable ROM with good battery life?

So my wife has an LG G2X on stock android 2.3.4 and she complains that after a while it will move so slowly that it is almost unusable. I have told her to restart the phone whenever that happens and she is having to do that about once a week, but that clears up the problem for a while. Aside from that, everything works as it should. It is using the march 2012 baseband.
Since it is not my phone, I do not know exactly what all she is doing on her phone, but I assume it is mostly facebook, watching videos, texting, and calls. I'm looking for a stable ROM where everything works like stock and has at least the same (if not better) battery life as stock.
And yes, I have searched but a lot of the info seems outdated. I am thinking that I might just run a rooted stock ROM with a custom kernel (leaning towards faux's here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102720 )... or maybe the stable cm-7.2.0-p999
summary: wife's G2X becomes VERY laggy after ~1 week use, suggest a fix
thanks :good:
Having to restart once a week is not problem, if anything that's a good thing lol. I had to restart my stock unrooted g2x multiple times a week.......if you move to a custom rom your wife will probably have to restart about the same if not more. I'm on cm7 and i restart about once a day just because i like to, not out of necessity. If your wife isn't huge into customization than a stock rooted rom will work just fine. Faux makes a great kernel but it was a little harsher on battery for my liking. I'm running Trinity oc right now and love it. If i were you, i would look at mazouts latest kernel build. He makes AWESOME kernels and ill be moving over to his latest release whenever it comes out tonight or tomorrow.

i had her on a cm7 build with her previous phone (motorola defy) and she seemed to like it OK. didn't customize it too much, just used all the default settings.
after i posted this thread, i actually started to look at, and downloaded mazout's kernel... so now i'm thinking of trying out the 3/1 "nightly" build of cm7 with mazout's 0323 kernel. i can't seem to find a known bugs list for cm7 on this phone. are there any known bugs?
does this build of cm7 have a "restart" option in the power menu? that is one of my pet peeves with the stock ROM. the only way i have found to restart the phone is to "power off" and then "power on". i think she would be more willing to restart the phone if it was an automated restart
Yes there is aa "reboot" option that comes up from holding the power button. Maz's 0323oc kernel is awesome. I wouldn't put the Max over 1015 and keep the minimum at 216. Known bugs.....for me the only bug i had was the phone would heat up pretty bad overnight while charging. It was instantly fixed by going into my development settings under applications and selecting the "keep awake" option while charging.

ive actually been having surprisingly good luck running hellfire rom compared to when i was running CM7, its been stable for almost a week now, battery life isnt as good, but much better then stock.
Whaaaat? Hellfire is tweaked out isn't it? Looks like a badass looking rom, just too comfortable with vanilla cm7

This is a link to BuRom. Its a slightly modded 2.3.4 stock ROM. Just throwing it out there as another option.

If you want to stay with stock just root it and install an app to give yourself access to either full reboot or a quick warm reboot from the home screen.
Rebooting is a necessary evil

now there's an idea. i didn't think about that. do you know of any of those types of apps that you could suggest?
I have the app Reboot Scheduler. It reboots my phone at 5 am so in the morning it's nice and fast.

Just search for reboot in play store.

threw "fast reboot" on there to see how she likes it since it doesn't require root, works more like an app killer, but kills all in one press.
now, would i see any noticeable gains by using a custom kernel (stock voltage, no overclock)?

Yes, not an extreme amount but a definite yes. I know by experience with CM7 that mazout's stock voltage beta kernel was much better than the stock CM7 kernel. Those kernels are only for CM7 though. I do not have any experience with an upgraded kernel on my g2x while it was stock as I flashed CM7 and mazouts kernel right after.

^ those stats are kind of irrelevant considering he's asking for a decent play out on battery while using performance. [All around use.] You just showed us what a phone with no data signals and almost no use other then the odd screen wake [possibly texts/calls] the op explained he needed a ROM that takes minimal battery with most use, and being a girl I would imagine she's using social networking which requires WiFi or 3G/4G Please don't take what I'm saying as offensive, your information is very handy however it steers the op in the wrong direction as I'm sure his wife likes to use her phone as much as possible without being stuck to a charger. My girlfriend is currently using my old g2x and so far we've had the best luck with cm7 stable and the trinity kernel with slight under volt. What I would suggest the op do is maybe take a little research nightly on her battery drain, find out what she's using the most and go from there. Unfortunately because its not HIS phone, he's not going to witness distinction first hand and won't be able come to a easy conclusion, and it doesn't help that the g2x devs are stuck on GB, too many ports to keep interest and the search could take forever.
LETS KEEP PRAYING TMOBILE HASNT FORGOT US!
PS spawne32, when you did have your phone like the picture did that include battery apps or task killers? Or just straight up OS? Whenever I tried the ROM you suggested [it has been a while, maybe since updated.] I get screen wake issues and all kinds of battery drain.

To the op, also recommend to your wife the app called "screen filter" it has an option to lower the key brightness, there are a few of those apps out there but I only remember using that, one of the g2x sad but true battery drainers.

Similar issue - frequent reboots - please suggest ROMs, kernels, other solutions!
I have an LG Optimus G2X (P-999) running the original, unrooted, stock OS (android 2.3.4 "gingerbread", with the "old" bootloader and the baseband from March 2012).
Similar to the OP's wife's phone, mine is running slower and slower, frequently locks up, sometimes so badly that I need to remove the battery to restart it, and sometimes it just restarts itself. I've already tried uninstalling unused apps, clearing caches, moving apps to the SD card, etc. None of that seemed to noticeably help, and lately I need to restart it at least once every 24 hours.
(There are other annoyances too, like the way the GPS hangs and drops, and the battery life isn't great - although the battery may just be too old.)
I'm planning to root it and uninstall the bloatware as a first step, using the instructions I found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050534
Then, I'm considering installing a custom ROM and/or kernel. (Most up-to-date list, I believe, is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975934 )
Given the problems I'm having, do you think one or both will help? (If yes, do you have any specific recommendations for a ROM and/or kernel, or tips, or possible pitfalls I should avoid?) Are there other ideas I should consider?
Thanks in advance!
