To flash this do we have to be in any earlier version?
Bcoz i tried flashing but its stuck in boot animation.
I DId al wiping(data,cache,dalvik) ..
Did fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot.
But still the problem remains..
Any suggestions
Thanks

If you do a full wipe before flashing it's not relevant which ROM or version you are coming from. Maybe you have wrong hboot.
Is your device s-off?
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App

no mine in still S-ON thru htcdev but rooted, using cm7.1..wanna try best ROM based on sense UI...hence wanted to flash...now i have observed one thing whichever the ROM i flash it its not happening...it stays in boot animation..earlier i tried CM7.1,MIUI WP7 ...My hboot version is 2.00.002

Unlocking thru htcdev allows to flash a ROM with stock kernel only. For freeful flash-rom-manipulating S-Off is needed. Try flashing any ROM with non-stock kernel led me only to the screen with HTC logo.

With HTCDev unlock you have to flash the kernel separately.
Which means:
1) open WhateverROMyouHaveDownloaded.zip
2) extract the boot.img that you will find inside
3) flash the ROM as usual (with full wipe)
4) Do not restart your phone yet, because you will be stuck in a HTC logo screen (bootloop)
5) from the recovery power menu reboot to bootloader
6) connect the phone to PC
7) flash the boot.img with the fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot {path to the file on your computer}\boot.img
8) reboot and enjoy your new ROM
P.S. this is a nasty limitation of HTCDev unlock, to avoid downgrade to a previous version (there are two guides in the Index), S-OFF with Revolutionary, flash Eng bootloader 0.98.2000 or 2.00.2002 and flash custom ROMs in one step

do u want me to put on "Team viewer after flashing a non-stock rom" ?i can do that man...

amidabuddha.....
I have done all the things what u said but with a difference.....Extracted ROM.zip put on the root of the SD card and and did fastboot flash boot boot.img...
If i extract the BOOT.IMG on the computer and den flash will it make any difference???

i have flashed boot.img seperately like u said it worked..
Thanks man

[Q] HBoot 2.00.0002, unlocked, S-ON and recovery destroyed !

Hello guys,
My recovery doesn't work anymore : I get stuck on the HTC logo.
Apart from that, my phone is fine : the bootloader works and I can boot my phone in normal mode.
Me being stupid, I unlocked my phone with HTCDev and though that was enough to get the phone S-OFF.
So I flash a 4ext recovery image without doing any backup (another rookie mistake). And since, I cannot launch the recovery.
The hboot is 2.00.0002, and I still have the original unrooted 3.0 Sense ROM.
I don't want to go on tinkering with my phone (ie rooting, S-OFF and install a custom rom) until I fixed the recovery.
So I have the following questions :
1) what I can do to restore/fix my recovery ?
2) do you have a backup recovery image for a French Orange HTC Desire S ?
3) what procedure should I follow to backup my phone NOW (boot, recovery, data, rom, etc...) ?
Thanks for your help,
Deckard
Flash in fastboot recovery.img
download the 4EXTRecovery_v2.1.0_saga.zip package here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130004
rename it to PG88IMG.zip
put that file on the root of your sd card
start you phone in bootloader (hboot not fastboot)
the bootloader will ask you if you want to install recovery.img
confrim
reboot
rename the file again into something else or delete it (cause bootloader will always try to flash if a PG88IMG.zip file is on your sd card every time you boot into it)
If you are rooted, the easiest solution to get a working recovery, one that doesn't involve fastboot, hboot, multiple restarts, adb etc, is to simply download the recovery updater app (free) from 4ext.net and use the app to download and flash your new recovery (4EXT Recovery) without any reboots or jumping through hoops!!
Hope you get what you want... you have all the possible solutions now (see posts above)

The OP stated that he has HBOOT 2.00.0002 and stock, unrooted 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 ROM, so your solution will not work for him.
He will need to flash a recovery.img using fastboot.
Thanks for your answer, korenisko
The truth is that I nicked my recovery using that particular command
(fastboot flash recovery recovery.img).
I tried to flash 4ext 1.0.0.3b9.
So, I'm a little wary of it right now.
I didn't understand why it failed. Is it because my phone wasn't S-OFF ?
Because I weren't root (as far as I know, it shouldn't matter) ?
Because the downloaded file was corrupted (the zip seemed valid, though) ?
Because I unlocked my phone through htcdev ?
Do you have any idea ?
Anyway, for the time being, I am a little puzzled. And uncomfortable.
I don't want to messed up again.
I guess, I don't risk anything trying to flash another recovery....
Maybe the stable version 4ext...
Thanks for your suggestion !
Don't I need my phone to be S-OFF before I can do what you are suggesting ?

It seems that the 3.24 Firmware from SebastianFM with hBoot unlock have some problem, cause it seems that i'm not the only one who got several problem after flash this Firmware.

I got you. Actually you do not have any custom recovery installed. Actually if you flash any RUU it will wipe your recovery partition and install stock recovery. So first you flash a custom recovery. I know you tried to flash CWM.But you got bootloop. Did you delete the file PG58IMG.zip from sdcard after flashing CWM ???? Please redo the following steps.
STEPS TO FOLLOW:
1. Download recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation here .
2. Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card (The main Folder of your Memory Card)
3. Turn off your phone.
4. Remove the battery.
5. Wait a minute.
6. Put the battery again.
7. Press Power + Volume Down key together.
8. The phone will boot into bootloader.
9. Press Volume up to Accept when it asks" Do you want to start the update"
10. Press Power Off to Reboot back to android after installation is successful (normal screen with homescreen)
11. It may not boot . Do not worry because you may have wiped out evrything.
12. Power off your phone.
13. Delete PG58IMG from your memory card .
14. Download your favorite custom ICS ROM.
15. Put it on the root of your SDCARD.
16. Remove the battery.
17. Wait a minute.
18. Put the battery again.
19. Press Power + Volume Down key together.
20. The phone will boot into bootloader.
21. Select "Recovery" by pressing Volume Down Key.
22. Press Power button after selecting Recovery.
23. Your phone will reboot into clockworkmod recovery.
24. Wipe system, boot, cache, data , and dalvik cache
24. Install your ROM from SDCARD.
25. Wait at least 7 to 10 minutes for first boot
26. Your phone will be normal now.
NOTE:
******* You must be SuperCID to do the above. Please also note , from your preveous post, I understand that you have V3.24 Firmware. Remember only ICS rom will work with this firmware. So do not flash Gingerbread ROM.**********
hi help is appreciate,
`So i tried to follow your step 3 times . One with 1.17 Firmware 3.12 & 3.24.
every time after flashing the recovery, i reboot and when i go to recovery the phone go into boot loop.

Which ROM you want to flash ??
Why did you try all three firmware ???? You should choose your firmware according to your ROM you want to flash.
You may get boot loop after flashing recovery as there might be no rom installed.
So as I said after flashing recovery you should power off your device. Then boot into bootloader by the preveous method. ( Step 3 to 7 ).Selct recovery by volume down key. Then press power button. You will be in recovery. And flash your ROM. But your ROM should match with the firmware.
Ok but How could i flash a ROm if i can't go to recovery ...
Ok maybe you miss understand, i got boot loop when i want to go to recovery too
Please tell me what ROM you want to flash. Post the link here. And once again you give the details of your boot loader screen. Do you have fastboot/adb set up on your PC?

So, Let fix the recovery first.
Download this attatched recovery (4Ext Touch).
MD5 Checksum : d31d7df8d275f7234416af6a2e8b1c73
Check the md5check sum after download. If it matches , go to the next step else redownload.
Put the downloaded recovery.img in the directory of your fastboot binary.
Connect your phone with pc via usb cable.
Reboot your phone into bootloader.
Open fastboot command from your pc.
Now type the following command in fastboot.
" fastboot flash recovery recovery.img "
After flashing type " fastboot reboot"
Now try to go to recovery. If it is successfull then I will tell you the ROM flashing part.

if yo can go in fastboot your likley not bricked.
you can always flash the original or similar ruu (not a rom) you phone came with in fastboot.
so you will go to stock with your hboot and recovery and to see if it boots.
then do the whole process over. s-off, then root.
then check your mid and cid if its supported.
and only then update to ics.
btw whats the type of phone? branded or og htc
my phone is from vodaphone so branded.
What do you mean by flashing your original or similar Ruu ?
The one coming with the phone out of box ?
i flash via command, .exe or PM58IMG.zip ?
i don't write my original cid is it bad ?

yes the rom the phone came with or close to it (any with recent ota`s).
always flash the ruu.exe because it wil recover the hboot, radio and recovery to stock. (zipfiles can be easily corrupted)
so go in fastboot usb (via power and volume button) and run the ruu.exe
then s-off/root the device
when s-off you should be able to install recovery within the original rom like cwr or ext4 updater tool, backup, then check your mid and cid, get a correct zipfile for the ics firmware update, flash arhd (it includes the lastest ext4 recovery). then change roms if you like.
you then also can check if the phone is working correctly.
if you already changed to supercid, i think its oke.
if not, on the forum there is al list of cid`s from different countrys and brands.
also there is al list of originals ruu the devices came with.
i assume you have done custom roms before ics came out?
so the cupercid was applied correctly?
i never supercid my devices (on a personal note)
and always flashed the testroms (to get the latest firmware) with no probs.
but if your branded its mandatory.
i've already flash 3 Ruu from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
and all finish in a bootloop with no stock recovery... almost all Ruu run fine with no alert
ruu i flashed already :

hi there
one question are you s-on or s-off
1. you need to backup the working system first
2. You need to do a full wipe before flashing a new ROM
3. If you are unlocked with htcdev you need to extract the boot.img of your desired ROM and flash it manually after flashing the ROM
4. If things above didn't help you please post all informations from bootloader (hboot etc..)
Sent by my fingers to your head.
hi again
right first of all:
Hboot version
S-on or S-off
If S-On and Hboot 2.00.0002 then make sure you flash your recovery
after installing your custom rom from recovery dont reboot, make sure you have the boot.img from the rom your going to use.
Put it into the directory of your fastboot (e.g c:\android-tools\) and then go into bootloader, select fastoot.
Bring up command prompt and enter "cd c:\android-tools\" press enter (or "cd" and where ever your fastboot is) then input ("fastboot flash boot boot.img") if done correctly yhe boot.img is flashed (note do this after you have intalled your rom) then reboot
if your S-off and flashed your recovery im not sure whats the problem, ill need more information

[Q] HTC Inspire 4G ATT stuck hboot 0.85 / S-On / Bootloader unlocked

Devs,
After navigating through our forums, I need help if you don't mind me asking.
Have AT&T Inspire 4G and unlocked bootloader but i'm still S-On. I also have CWM however I cannot boot to OS. I've tried installing the RUU via PC and SD card and to no avail. SD card reads the file but does not install. I tried both the Radio and full blown OS in zip form.
I can only get to hboot /fastboot menu and CWM. I'm S-On and Bootloader unlocked.
When i tried to install via RUU stock rom in hboot usb, i get the error message battery is not 30% yet the battery if fully charged.
When i tried to install via RUU stock rom in fastboot usb, it errors out and HTC black screen come up. I unplug the usb cable and fastboot says updated failed.
I cannot update OS so i'm not sure if i need to relock bootloader to install ruu or if there's another method to getting past this.
Thank you
I'm not sure if you tried to flash a zip from recovery. If so, did you flash the boot.img from fastboot?

Hi
Yes, if you mean placing the PD98IMG.zip file on the main directory of the storage card yes, I did try that. When hboot comes up, it looks like it loads it but doesn't. I've tried updating the radio, stock rom via zip and stock rom via ruu. nothing has worked.
do you think i need to relock by bootloader (i hope not) and then try to run the run?
Funny thing is, when i'm in hboot, i run the ruu stock roms via exe and they all say i'm below 30% battery life which is not the case. I then switch to fastboot usb and then the ruu exe tries to install but errors out on the phone
i'm at a loss now. Right now, I can get to hboot, fastboot, clockwork mod but that's it. the hboot i think is for gingerbread that i'm on.
need some direction if anyone has any thoughts.

Yes, I tried to install 4 different custom roms using clockwork mod. They all ran through installation but never booted up.
I'm s-on so I'm not sure if I can install a custom rom

Ok just so I'm clear, are you saying first install custom rom in clockwork mod, reboot I to hboot/fastboot then flash the P98IMG file?
I have not been able to flash the boot image in clockwork mod or hboot/fastboot. Clockwork mod gives me the signature error and now so does custom rom
Can I flash a custom rom with s-on?
No. I am saying, flash a ROM with CWM, then fastboot flash the boot.img. The boot.img is extracted from the ROM zip. Pull it out, then "fastboot flash boot boot.img." That is how you flash a ROM with S-On and unlocked bootloader. Look in the Ace Think Tank thread in he Desire HD forums for more detailed information.

No, the boot.img needs to be on the computer where you're running fastboot from. Run fastboot from the computer from the folder holding the boot.img, while your phone is in fastboot mode. Did you read the Ace Think Tank? It has very clear instructions.

It's not a "think tank process." The Ace Think Tank is a thread full of info about rooting and flashing an Ace (HTC Desire HD/Inspire 4G) device. Included in it is information about flashing custom ROMs to an S-On, unlocked device, which is what you need. And yes, that process lets you flash the boot.img from the computer to the phone via fastboot over USB.

Here is my checklist
Flashing roms with an unlocked bootloader S-On.
****This ASSUMES that you have installed HTC drivers and have setup and tested ADB and FASTBOOT.
• Unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery (CWM or 4ext)
• Download the ROM zip file you are willing to flash to your PC.
• Extract the the boot.img from inside the zip file (do not extract the whole rom)
• Put the [ROM].zip file on /sdcard
• Once in recovery, you need to do a full wipe (wipe data / factory reset and wipe cache + dalvik cache). You can also format some other partitions such as data and system, but the full wipe will work.
• wipe data/factory resent
• wipe cache
• wipe dalvik cache
• Flash ROM from recovery (install zip from /sdcard)
• Reboot into bootloader again and plug the phone to the PC.
• You need to be in fastboot usb (if you see HBOOT USB PLUG in the phone, just press power to toggle)
• Open a cmd/terminal and navigate to where the boot.img file is located - example [C:\]
• Type: > fastboot flash boot boot.img
• Reboot and now you should be enjoying your custom rom

Since it's a HTC phone, it has S-OFF and S-ON, Is your Phone S-OFF?
Then you could flash a Rom without flashing Boot.IMG using PC
Is it S-ON?
Then you need to seperate the Boot.img and flash it using your PC with CMD.
To check if your S-OFF or On you need to reboot into your bootloader and read it from there.
procedure?

Remove the Battery when your phone is off, Put it back on, Press Vol Down & Power Button at the same time, Then you enter HBoot Menu, now read the First Sentence and it says something about The Device Name and S-OFF or S-ON.
If your S-OFF you don't need to flash Boot.img.
Flash ROM first Before Flashing Boot.Img
To flash Boot.img, Seperate the boot.img and put it somewhere you can find back. (For example the C Partition on your PC)
Turn your phone on HBoot Then Click fastboot
Plug your phone into your PC with a Micro USB
Then Enter CMD (When you have all the flash tools)
Search the Boot.img and type : Fastboot flash boot c:\boot.img
how to flash using cmd?

You never told us Your Recovery also which version are you using + Did you Do a full wipe before flashing?
Are you clearing the caches
Did you remember to clear all the caches and system? If you don't the system will never boot, but not freeze either. It the system is freezing there is likely an incompatibility in my experience.

You Don't need to clear Cache or System, If you Flash From Stock (This is not for all devices).
ok

Good point. It would be a more useful one if you knew this happened to be a device you don't need to do that with.
However, this is the advice everyone should get before flashing a rom and since this particular flash's failure has symptoms indicating the cache corrupted it, I don't see why you would try moving a step backwards. You yourself stated a wipe should be performed, which would include the caches and system if all options were selected.
Back up the device again and clear the cache and system, which is already inoperable and see if the clean flash clears up system boot problem.

(lol) You said you had S-OFF, Well That not so, You have HTC dev Unlock that means S-ON, Which means you have the Manually Flash Boot.img.
1.Unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery (CWM or 4ext)
2.Download the rom zip file you are willing to flash to your PC.
3.Extract the the boot.img from inside the zip file (do not extract the whole rom)
4.Put the zip file in your sdcard.
5.Boot into recovery and do a full wipe (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, format system)
6.Flash rom (install zip from sdcard)
7.Reboot into bootloader again and plug the phone to the PC.
8.You need to be in fastboot usb (if you see HBOOT USB PLUG in the phone, just press power to toggle)
9.Open a cmd/terminal and navigate to where the boot.img file is located.
10.Type: fastboot flash boot boot.img If you don´t how to do that, watch this video (it is in spanish, thou you can follow it without listening to the instructions)
11.Reboot and now you should be enjoying your custom rom

No it won't Like i said Flash the ZIP (ROM) Before with or without Boot.IMG (Doesn't do anything) But you have to extract the Boot.img before and placing it somewhere, where you can flash it with CMD or whatever Apple or linux uses.
Then flash it in CMD after Flashing the ZIP with Recovery.
With the Following Command Fastboot flash boot c:\boot.img (When placed in the C Disk)
Remember you need to be in Fastboot mode Not in HBOOT mode that means you have to Click one time on the power button.
