I have tried a couple of music players and they start but always freeze on me.
Only thing I could think of was I froze the drm.apk. I unfroze anything I could think of but still have problems. My phone just froze up anytime I try and use the music app. I can start to play a song but thats it.

blazing through on my Galaxy Nexus via XDA app
Yeah thats what I thought.
Digital Rights Management of something like that. I unfroze the 3 I thought pertained to that and still had problems.
clear the caches and data on the music player reboot.
I lowered my memory settings and that seemed to help.
I've been freezing DRM related stuff for almost 2 years now without any harm to media playback so i doubt that's the problem. Glad you got it figured out though.

Well now that you say that I will go back and freeze those and see what happens.
Seems like the memory settings could have been the problem. Couldnt multitask because it ran out of memory.

After the 3.1 update, when I listen to music while the Music app is running in the background (using the widget or notification widget), the songs always crash in like 30 seconds.
Anyone getting this? Its pretty frustrating and annoying since it never did this before.
Should also write, that when I am listening to music with the player open, all songs work fine.
Anyone? No one is getting this problem?

Is it force closing or just stopping?
If it is just stopping, I would guess that honeycomb is removing it from ram due to being low on ram. It really shouldn't do that since it is an activite service, but that is my guess.

Hmmm yea it doesn't force close it just stopped and the icon disappears like the xoom closed it out. However that really sucks because it is running....you know it may be a bigger issue. When I watch playon and switch to a browser for a sec then switch back I have to reload it and log in again. Its annoying but I never had to do that pre 3.1. Anyone else having these issues? Did Google mess with background apps and the multitasking resource allocation? Still the music player is active sso I don't know what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated

No issues here. Sorry to hear... try a reset?
i JUST bought this phone yesterday and today is the first day i have actually gotten to use it and start setting it up. Its all stock. the only thing i did was install my general apps that i use all the time, and disabled the useless apps. verizon apps, amazon, some google play apps, etc. nothing major to the phone. whats happening is that when i play a youtube video or play a game, i get like a half second stutter or freeze then it continues normally. this happens on all games.
any ideas what it could be?
Bring that sucker back and get a replacement.
In all seriousness, this really sucks to hear. Have you tried unfreezing all previously frozen apps to see if the issue still persists? Since you haven't modified anything in the phone yet, you could perform a factory reset and see if that helps anything.

This phone should not stutter at all. It should fly through everything. If factory reset doesn't fix it, return it

I know. I was shhocked when I started to notice it. I ONLY noticed it on YouTube vids and games. The the menus there didn't seem to have a hiccup at all. Maybe an app I installed? I'll try unfreezing tho oak what one would cause that.
The other issue I'm having is with my chrome bookmarks. I have 2 folders on my chrome. "Other bookmarks" where All my computer bookmarks r stores and "mobile bookmarks" when nothing is stored. What I'm trying to do is copy say Facebook from other to mobile. But every time I go to do that it moves it from other to mobile and than its no longer on other bookmarks. How can I copy bookmarks over without moving them?

Alright so I unfroze all the apps and rebooted and still same issue. So then I froze everysingld app I could that I downloaded or Google app and tried again and still doing it. So it's not an app. Must be a system setting... And ideas what setting could cause this?

If a factory reset didn't fix it (if you've done one yet), just take it back. No system setting is going to cause intermittent lag. That would be the worst idea for a setting ever... "Check this box to slow down your system at random times."

I have an M8 that at first was super fast pretty much at all times.
I installed Next Launcher on it, and it was still fast, for at least a few weeks I think.
But now I regularly get nasty lag when using that launcher (tapping on home or whatever, even other app's).. lag on the order of even 1-4 seconds before an action takes place… not acceptable at all.
I saw a post somewhere about modifying a build.prop option to "always keep launcher in memory" or something like that. I believe the post said that the launcher may get unloaded from memory at times by Android if other memory intensive app's are running.
Just wondering if anyone else has encountered similar lag from a launcher like Next Launcher… or other lag just appearing over time.
If I do a restart, lag will go away for a bit, but then return… I think it's when the Launcher is loaded, and resident in memory, that lag goes away for a bit.
I didn't want to have to root just to modify build.prop, but I guess I may have to…
Thanks for any ideas…
p.s.
I have the AT&T HTC One M8… but I doubt that would matter for this issue.
[Fixed]
Checking "System persistent" under "Performance Settings" seems to have fixed most lag on Next Launcher for me.
I also checked "Hyper Fluency" which may also help.
Nice that this option was possible so I didn't have to root just to keep the Launcher fluid...

Not necessarily. I've used more than 10 different Android devices, including the HTC One M8, and every one of them stuttered to some degree, usually once every 2 or 3 seconds while watching YouTube or Netflix, playing games, etc. It has nothing to do with network speed or a device defect. But if it's really freezing for half a second, that's a different story.

Yes, it does. You're just not sensitive enough to notice.
I am having similar issue. Got the phone a few weeks ago, and have been getting used to it. First off, the battery life is not what people made it out to be, unless mine is faulty...
Getting to the point though, in the notification bar, if there is more than 2 notifications at the same time, say an email, a chat, and a text, when I unlock the phone, the entire top notification bar "flashes" in a stuttery manner... and until i remove the notifications it continues to do this. I attempted factory reset but had no success.. Any advice?
This has happened 3 or 4 times in the past couple days. My Play Music will start playing without me asking it to. If I recall correctly, it's always starting when I use the swipe up to unlock gesture from an off/sleeping screen. There's no shortcuts to the music app that I could be accidentally swiping on or anything like that. I'm running CleanROM and Sense 6 Toolbox. Anyone experiencing anything like this?

Poweramp does something like that as soon as I connect BT. I use Greenify to hibernate the apps so they won't do that.

This is more by design though. IIRC there is a setting in PowerAmp for this activity.
I realized shortly after I posted this that I did a TiBu data restore of Play Music when I flashed the ROM. I would have excluded this app had I noticed it listed in user apps. I cleared its data and will hope that resolved it.

Are you having the exact same symptoms as I described, i.e. music comes on when you unlock with a swipe-up gesture? It sounds like you're able to trigger it more often than I'd been seeing. It only happened once today before I posted. I can't say for sure whether mine's fixed yet since it's random, but you could also try clearing your data on Play Music.

I'm not exactly sure. I'm pretty sure it's only when I swipe up, but like you it happens for me very infrequently. Maybe once or twice a day, tops. I'll try clearing data and see what happens

Everytime when I turn off my screen while listening with headphones on or off, my music disrupts after a period of 6 seconds.
Now I have tried a various things to fix it, and strangely enough disabling the lock screen (any type of security ) fixes this issue)
Might any of you know a better alternative to make my life easier? I don't want to leave my phone insecured for the sake of listening to music.
Thank you.

Reflash with stock 5.1.1 ROM via odin.
Have you (TS) tried the solution provided above? I'm experiencing the bug as well. It's really irritating.
I managed to fix the problem by clearing the system cache. Just boot into odin, clear the cache and restart the phone.
(I didn't reflash the stock rom)

Thanks for the reply. When you mean boot into odin, did you mean recovery? I have done that as well, but it seems that it didn't fix the problem for me.
To add another solution to this bug, I downloaded and flashed the stock ROM for my phone. Apparently, it fixed the bug.
Yes that's what I meant, sorry for the confusion. I might as well do the same. Thanks for the heads up !

Heya, sorry to bring this topic back again to life. Apparently, the fix was only temporary. The bug reappeared after a few hours. I might try a clean install just to see if this gets fixed.

Do you have greenify installed and have the music app set to greenify? Also are you using the built in close app feature? The one found in battery stats. If so do you have the app set to auto kill? This feature kills all selected apps after a certain time of the screen being turned off.

I haven't installed Greenify yet on my S6. I had it on my S4, but it wasn't causing any problems at all. I checked the close app feature, and Music app wasn't placed there. The Music app crashes, it doesn't just close; without any warning message or whatever.
Update: I did a factory reset/data wipe via recovery mode, and used Odin to install a fresh 5.1.1. I tried the Music app, and it doesn't crash. I hope it wouldn't crash anymore.

Did the fresh install fixed the problem completely? I have it as well and it's super annoying, it will be super annoying to have to download my apps again but i will if it fixes the problem.

Unfortunately, it did not. To be exact, it fixed the problem for about a week, but the problem appeared again. Try using Power Amp music player, it's working well for me. I'm tempted to buy the full version after this trail version expires. Spending 1$ would be way better than getting annoyed all the time by the default music player.

This is so annoying and tried everything to resolve it without any luck. While playing YouTube and music players they pause/freeze after a few seconds.
