1st of all, welldone eos team!! Will love to update this rom with my xoom hk version. but sadly most of the thread end up saying hong kong version should stay away...i think its maybe the partition issues stil the main problem, anyone here already test the rom with hong kong version?
Why are we being left out?
Hi all,
Been using the MZ601 3g/WiFi for a few months and still can't get to a point to root it. Last time I rooted it a lot of stuff does not work like the market and memory. I paid motorola to flash it back as they will not provide the SBF file. Also HK versions are not going to get the upgrade to ICS from motorola. Though they have put it into planning stage only which means no ICS for us. If anyone have proper information on how to root HK version 3g/WiFi MZ601 please please let us know.
TIA
Eric
I think you guys can just flash the EU version of the EOS rom...(HK version should be UMTS instead of CDMA).

Only if solarnz has added the special files to deal with the HK model's storage partition issues. I'm sure he'd help if possible.

Well there's a high possibility that the 3G xoom sold in hk is the eu version...
1. HK uses EU mobile frequencies
2. I've got my wingray in hong kong and still be able to flash the EOS rom...
So just check carefully whether or not you are having the EU xoom...
You can try flashing the EU version of the rom but I'll recommend that you'll do a backup first in recovery.
Hi aR_ChRiS,
Thanks for the reply. So how exactly can I backup my original firmware? I don't want to again pay Motorola to reflash again. I cannot find the exact procedures to backup. Please help.

install clockworkmod and, before rooting, go into the backup-menu and run a nandroid backup.
I am not sure which recovery you should use, as your partition table looks different from 'the usual'. The 'modded' CWM is modded in a way to exclude the /sdcard-folder (=/data/media) from wipes, backups, etc, so this is probably not the recovery you should go for. Also, if you change your partition table to match the european xooms, you will probably have to undo that before you can restore that backup.

Rom for hk xoom
Hi Nick,
Lucikly I didn't root as my motherboard had problems and they replaced it twice. Anyway unless I can find the sbf file for hk mz601 I dont think I can safely do it. As i don't want to pay for it to be reflashed each time. Also from reading around it is best for hk users not to root. Or at least wait for the warranty to run out. For me it is end of this year

6 weeks later. Is it still working? Any problems? I want to do this to my Hong Kong sourced Xoom.
ICS is fully functional by team eos.

Guess what! Defy released yesterday in India and it seems to be the one without Motoblur. Since a central european version cannot be used in India, there seems to be another firmware that Motorola came up with.
By the weekend I should have my friend upload the Deblured rom for us to use.
Well if 2.1 is still interesting for some that is.

Yes, I will need to teach my friend to make the backup and upload it from India. BTW seems like the version is called 2.52 . Sounds scary of it being unrootable and non-downgradable.
i got defy recently in New Delhi....version says 2.51.....i thought it had motoblur...now wud check again...
can somebody confirm whether the indian defy is rootable?
i am planning to buy this phone and if it is supposed to get froyo in june, i should rather stick with my galaxy 3.

haven't come across any unrootable rom yet.
and if you do buy it, please post your nandroid backup.
ps there are already froyo roms floating around. and no one knows when would an indian version would come.
ok so i can flash sbf files even if the bootloader is 2.51?
if yes then what is the problem with 2.51 that everybody is advising not to upgrade?

the problem is always that you can't go back. unless you have a nandroid backup. any future upgrade should be fine.
Price of Defy in India ... delhi Region in retail.... anyone.... ?
it retails for INR 18000 at flipkart.com
It's without MOTOBLUR???
Had the same here in Thailand. However I didn't make a backup before I put a custom rom on it. Wish I had!
But it's definitely out there. Mine was a 2.51 rom with static moto boot logo and no motoblur widgets or popups whatsoever. Actually, yesterday I found a file called JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1_DEBLUR_P3_SIGN_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA030.0R_USAJORDANRTCEE_P031_A020_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf.gz at 4shared but now it has been deleted. Don't know if it was real though.

The answer is that I'm not sure how the international 3.1 differs from the US 3.1. I'm sure we will find out soon. Also are you Wifi only or 3G/Gsm version?

Did you use the boot file that GoNYoR used or did you just follow the instruction in the Xoom forums? I wonder if this will work with a 3G MZ604 on HC3.1. Really interested in rooting my Xoom.

A few weeks ago, I purchased a Xoom with Wi-Fi only in Hong Kong while I was visiting. However, I did not know it was a HK Xoom until I did a OTA update to 3.1 H.6.4-20.
I would like to flash a US 3.2 or above using this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166106
To my dismay, it states that only 3.0.1 HK Xoom has been tested and working.
It seems that Motorola has not released the stock 3.0.1 version so I have no way of flashing it to my Xoom.
My question is, is there anyway for me to get a 3.0.1 HK ROM in order to flash a US 3.2 or above? Also, can I try the guide I mentioned above without flashing back to a 3.0.1?
Thanks

You are looking to unlock your bootloader and root so you can flash a stock or custom rom with the HC three point two update, yes?
There is a new universal root method that works on any Xoom, any model, any country.
If you root with this method you could flash the Tiamat Hammerhead Rom which will provide you with the three point two update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209341
Hello dev,
For those with Canadian version of 6210, can someone upload a rooted 6201XXLB2 rom? I I notice the 6210 version in the dev does not contain the XXLB2 rom.
Thanks.

If anyone can help with this it would be really appreciated. Guess who upgraded to the ICS Rom, found out that my wifi was unworkable, and now had to load the "regular North American Retail Rom with the Peel app etc that I cant use

I don't think the XXLB2 is anywhere to be found around here. You might just have to stick with the XXLPL release until the XXLB2 is uploaded by someone or is released. I honestly don't know if its even released. I just looked for it and couldn't find it anywhere.
I'm in the same situation I search for the LB rom for P6210 but for LA3 just uninstall PEEL soft with titanium backup

Thank you very much anyway, The Canadian version P6210 has the XXLB2. which means it has been released. Will I have no problem with the XXLPL? I am satisfied with this rom but needs to change some few things. I am just being cautious if something happens.
I did a nandroid backup of the original unmodified LB2 in clockworkmod, before I started changing settings and installing apps.
You need to have garyd9's "CWM-based Recovery v5.x.x.x" installed in order to restore this nandroid backup:
garyd9's "CWM-based Recovery v5.x.x.x" post
I notice someone posted a newer version of CWM v6 - from what I understand, the newer CWM version is not compatible with the v5 backups.
If anyone finds this useful please reply and let me know. I also need recommendation on upload sites which are easy to use (ie. no registration etc.) and won't kill the upload quickly.
Slim_thumb,
Sorry, I was out for quite some time. Thank you for posting the link. It helped me a lot. I presummed that you have tried some ICS, what could be the best ICS replacement to our XXLB2 for the moment while waiting for our upgrade turn?

LB2 is the HC firmware specific to the GT7+ sold in Canada. It is not ICS. We have not received the OTA ICS update yet.

If anyone has the XXLB2 firmware, could you please post it up. I would like to go back to stock for when ICS is released. Thank you in advance.

CromDubh,
I followed the other thread of SrumerJohn in Adnroid Development and installed that ICS firmware. I am not happy about the performance of that firmware.
I am glad you find the latest US firmware satisfactory. Did you use the temporary CWM method to root this US firmware, followed by installing permanent CWM?
I did try the original UK ICS firmware but unfortunately not very extensively..(no wifi being a bit of a deal breaker for me)....but I'm pretty happy with North American version.
As for rooting, I used the same rooting method as was used for the older ICS without a problem. I didnt install permanent CWM, just the the temp, but I'm sure I'll end up with the permanent one when its time to start playing with JB

The ICS version is slightly faster and more fluid than HC in terms of screen transition and opening apps, but my biggest problem is the Flash video performance. Interestingly, I had no wifi problem with the UK ICS version (this problem must be router-related).
I have problem with Flash video playing in the browser in both firmware versions. Not all video sites are affected equally - eg. Youtube 1080p does not play smoothly (used to play smoothly in original HC); Vimeo HD completely stutters (used to play smoothly in original HC).
Adobe apparently stopped supporting Flash and it disappears from Google Play store. I tried several older versions of Flash 11 (and even 10) posted as .apk (eg. at apktop), but none of them work smoothly (some of them even force close the browser) - and yes I did get the correct ICS version of Flash player.
I use Dolphin browser, and I tried the Flash video with the stock browser but the result is the same. Therefore it has nothing to do with the browser.
I have since gone back to my original HC through nandroid backup.
P.S. I followed StrumerJohn's guide to flash permanent CWM onto the US ICS version, and it works. However, at your own risk always.
Hey guys, i'm new to this community as i recently bought a TAB 2 3100,
the problem for me is, i want to upgrade to JB, but the latest update for mine "p3100 XWBLH3" is ICS
my question is; can i use a JB update from other regions (France for example) and use it on my tablet? if so, what's the risk of doing this process?
thanks so much !
