I'm about to throw a fit for being forced to update over wifi, which I don't have. I'm not sitting in Starbucks for half an hour just to update my phone.
If someone could upload the ota id greatly appreciate it, thanks.
Here you go.
You can apply it through the stock Volup+Voldown powerup recovery menu.
Make sure you take the steps necessary to preserve root if you need that.
Thanks!!! And perfect timing since the town just went off (decent flick)

If you can get to the factory reset in the settings menu that would the first thing to do. And then check for an update. Make sure you set the wifi to not turn off and I would keep the screen from shutting off while downloading the update. Check in settings "about Device". If your not 3389 or higher then you need to update
I had this problem back in November when I first got my tab. Even though nothing seemed to work right, I was able to connect it to my desktop and push across clockworkmod v .08 and a custom rom. So, I never used the original rom more than 10 minutes.
If you can't get it connected while booted in original rom, then Bekit's NVFLash full restore procedure works really well. Just follow the steps carefully and it's a quick and painless factory reset to a known working rom.
These things are virtually unbrickable (is that a word?).

badfrog is correct. If you factory reset the device it should be fine from there - then you set up your wifi and get the update.
Go into your app drawer and choose Settings. I don't remember if you can do it from the menu button as I'm on a different launcher.
Inside Settings go to Security and select Factory Data Reset. Do this, the unit will reboot and come back up at which point you'll be asked to set it up. It may take some time. Set your Date and Time correctly and set up your Wifi and such.
Once that's done you'll likely get a prompt to update very soon after Wifi connects. DO NOT DO IT, yet.
Within Settings, go into Display and set the Display Timeout to Never.
This ensures that the tablet doesn't sleep or turn off your wifi while it's downloading the update. It's not likely to happen but if your connection is on the slow side and the timeout is set too low, it can mess things up.
Once you've done that, proceed to let the tablet update itself. Again, it may take a bit of time.
Once it's done, make sure you take not of what you have. You'll find this information under Settings in the About section. The last version I got was 3389 - but something newer MAY be there for you. If you get anything less than 3389 then you will have to wait until you get another notification for an update. I don't remember how they work - but I THINK you should get the newest one there.
Once you've confirmed you're on the most current build, It may not be absolutely necessary to do it, but I would factory reset again just to clear the 'gunk' of the older TnT out in case there is actually any.
When I got mine and powered it on the 1st time, I got a bunch of FCs. I powered off and then on, and no more FCs, and it was fine after that. I think I posted asking about that, and someone (roebeet, I think) said it was a known problem. I don't remember the TNT version, but it was the one before 3389, or one before the one before 3389.
Jim
It is a known problem, especially with the older firmware. Sometimes the FC's are so bad that you can't even get into the settings to do a data wipe.
I've actually called CS about this, as an example of why they need an offline updater of some kind to get around issues like these. Suggestion: if you don't want to install clockworkmod, at least try to update the firmware to the latest and greatest, via one of the newer stock ROMs we're retrieved:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842000
That might get you enough access to get into the Settings menu and do the factory restore.
I have the charge running FP5 firmware and the Tweaked ROM 3.0.
I've run into a situation where the phone has become rather laggy and buggy.
Example: Click the notification for voicemail...wait 30 seconds and phone dials. or Phone battery dies. I plug it in and it charges up to 30%, then starts getting very laggy and non responsive. I reboot and am told battery power is really 50% and phone is good to go.
I'm used to rebooting the phone at least once a day or more. I'm looking for a way to correct the problems and bring the phone back to how it was when I last upgraded and and loaded the ROM... too bad I didn't backup the phone at that point. Anyways...I know that if I reload the firmware and apply the ROM, everything will work correctly again but I'll spend hours tweaking the settings to add custom ringtones and photos to contacts.
Is there some cache or data I can clear to fix this without clearing everything and starting over?
Mike
P.S. I'm keeping this phone until Verizon allows me to upgrade and keep unlimited data or the phone dies and I have to get another.

You mean Tweaked 3.2, right... if not first upgrade to the 3.2 version of the ROM... it is the current FP5 option.
There is a build.prop thing commented out at the bottom that should force launcher into memory (supposed to help with screen redraw issues, but might also help with general responsiveness). I think you could do it from root explorer, just edit the file, scrool down, read comments, when you find one that sounds like what I said just remove the "#" from the line below it.
re-installing tweaked might really help...
but you might try going into CWM and wiping cache only... NOT data & cache... JUST CACHE... that helped me when i had "funky" things going on on a different device/ROM worth a try.
Finally, you should always take a CWM backup, Nandroid, before poking around....
Also... check swappa for relatively cheap phones with no ties to VZW contract it is where i picked up the GN2 (if it is rooted and you don't want to show it off at the corp store, just call customer support say you are too busy store hours. They will send you the micro/mini SIM via FedEx.
Of course take what I say with a grain of salt... I am just a crazy guy from the internet
(oh great XDA... please correct me if I've misspoken)
Thanks for the info. I never did load Tweaked 3.2. I will put that on the back burner as I don't want to reload all the settings. Maybe I can load it without wiping data. Do you know? For now I will try wiping the cache and see if the phone improves.
Someday I'm gonna have to explore the latest OTA and a new ROM. I'm getting tired of ignoring the update message. either that or learn how to shut the message down. any recommendations on a ROM for the new OTA?

I will never tell someone "don't say it click the button"... However, I'm like pavlov's dog clicking the button is appreciated...
Not sure about a dirty flash... Never tried it. I got turned on to Root and Such well after FP5 and Tweaked 3.2 came out.
If you give it a go... You could retain much via Titanium Backup. Or just send a CWM Backup/Nandroid on the SD Card before playing around.
Either way...
There has to be a proper stop notification how to thread around here somewhere!
Cliffs Notes:
From a Root Friendly File Explorer (Like Root Explorer HERE, it is worth the $)
edit a line in "/system/build.prop"
Find
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/SCH-I510/SCH-I510:2.3.6/GINGERBREAD/FP5:user/release-keys
replace the FP5 with FP8 so it reads:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/SCH-I510/SCH-I510:2.3.6/GINGERBREAD/FP8:user/release-keys
NOTE: BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO HOSE THE PERMISSIONS (If I recall some of the other "freebie" root file explorers break the permissions... Best to find that a real thread with all the details if you are not 100% confident.)
Also feel free to double check my facts... I'm just a crazy guy from the internet!
Good luck!
Edit Alert:
PS. While poking around at the tweaktools back-end, I noticed there were some mods that specifically addressed lag (I have little to no experience with them though... Just FYI...

yes, you can flash tweak 3.2 over 3.0 without wiping data. not sure if it comes with the updated kernel, but I would certainly do that as well.
in terms of lag, try the crossbreeder mod on XDA - worked for my charge!
I got a notification on my phone that there is a software update available for my phone. After reading up on it a bit, I decided it's not worth the hassle to update. I thought I had gone through steps to suppress firmware updates a while back but I guess not. What's the easiest way to suppress this warning? Let me know when you get the chance. Thanks, guys!
Well, a bit of an update, I found the original information on how to suppress OTA updates here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56693607&postcount=370
As I thought before, I had already gone through this step and disabled it (it was disabled in the hidden menu already). However, the update still seems to have popped up. t tried to auto update this morning but reported back that it suspects my system is rooted so it wasn't able to install. That's good news to a point (at least it didn't screw anything up) but I don't like that it even attempted it without me giving it permission.
Any idea what might have changed? Or is there a difference between an OTA update and a "software update"?
I don't know the answer but I am having the same problem. My phone keeps restarting and giving the error that it wasn't able to install. This actually happened before when I was on 4.X and eventually it bricked my phone and the AT&T store couldn't fix it so they gave me a refurb. It sucked because I didn't have all my photos backed up(I have since fixed that problem.) Now I am having the same issue and I don't want it to brick my phone. I also hate that it restarts automatically...I might need to use my phone for something at the moment. I also have tried the info in the link to disable OTA both phones and neither time has it worked. If anyone can help, please do. Thanks.
The only thing I have ever done and has worked every time is to root and then freeze a file called. "software update" or "update manager". Hope this helps.
I would actually like someone to put together an update.zip that will update us to the latest version without having to go through the hassle of flashing back to stock and what not.
I like the idea of LTE voice calls but not so much that I am willing to go through the work of starting over.
sent from a location using an app
In Titanium Backup (or similar app) find the app call "Software Update 2.3.3.1" and freeze it
That is what solved me receiving software updates and I no longer see the option in the About phone area.
I purchased the new Verizon Ellipsis 10 in late November. I believe the tablet was released for sale in mid November. My question is can it be rooted? I see the Ellipsis 7 and 8 can rooted. Wondering if anyone would be working on this or because it from Verizon no one cares. I can't find the tablet mentioned on any search that I do. I Have been checking daily to see if the device will have development on it. Thanks in advance for any information.
In the same boat. Need some help you smart tech guys out there. How can I root my Ellipsis 10?
I have the same tablet, and I do not think it could be rooted, at least not in the near future. The tablet comes encrypted (which I am not too happy about....I just noticed it) and cannot be decrypted, even if you do a factory reset. It runs fine as it is, but would be greatly enhanced if it could be decrypted. I also think there are very few devs on this forum that really care a lot about this tablet, so you may not see too much work being done on it.
Same here, just picked one up. Really hoping that there will be a root for this at some point soon. Someone please help us all out!
wish I would have saved the 50$ now, and got the Samsung tablet for free... it's OK, the biggest problem for me is the audio output being too quiet. all the "volume booster's" on the play store have been jenky, to say the least. if anyone has suggestions of a "good, volume booster", or work around, please let me know. thank you for you time.
Oh, No! Sadness!

https: / / " www dropbox com " /s/f8ye7yw24mjqiva/IR7-20C59.7z?dl=0
just fix the text when u enter in address bar (-""'s,+.'s)
so i downloaded the IR7-20C59..7z package from the software upgrade/repair tool from verizon... I extracted the files and sent the boot.img to my tablet (qtair7) and used magisk manager to patch the boot.img then I used ubuntu to adb pull the magisk-patched-boot.img and modded it using abootimg and changed a few things from default.prop.. ro.secure=0 ro.debuggable=1 and drm.service.enabled=false .. (just saying im an amateur android enthusiast with little experience. ive played with image kitchens and compiled a kernel and ported a rom for the samsung on5 indie variant to have sound on my smg550t1. worked but all google services and apps crash constantly.. but anyways) i dont really know what im doing just saying this is what i did. repacked magisk-patched-boot-new.img then i sent the adb reboot fastboot command to my tablet and it fastboot flashing unlock , fastboot flashing unlock boot, fastboot flash boot magisk-patched-boot-new.img. fastboot continue, fastboot reboot.. the tablet boots and is rooted with magisk.. now i installed busybox to sbin. i have done this 2 times. im not sure if its the busybox or the magisk, but when i reboot following the above steps i get the verizon splash screen and in the bottom righthand corner of the screen it says modified. then boots to recovery. and now can only boot to recovery. now i have the upgrade/repair tool .iso on usb flashdrive that i use to repair my device from this state. which sometimes is a pita.. i have to continually attempt to repair sometimes it takes 2 days.. before it finally works.. i dont know why.. but it boots from fastboot the first time fine. and would like to know how to stop the soft bricking of my device or how i can obtain a twrp.img for this device QTAIR7.. please help ive been working on rooting my tablet for over a year. and feel that i am very close . thanx
Anyone interested in the system.img or any other partitions.. the Dropbox file is only the recovery flash files. I think. I know I couldn't edit system.img from the file with any kitchen but the system.img I dd'd from my device can be edited with kitchen. It's is 3.7gb so in not going to post unless someone can do something with them
Please share some info on the file you posted,..

Hello, THANK YOU!! This is the most progress I have made in months! I don't know what it is, what it offers, or what to do with it yet, but it is a step!
Could you maybe say what it is, what it will do (how it helps..) and what to do with it?
My Verizon Ellipsis 10 (qtair7), even after wiping the cache, even after doing a factory reset, (even after 'disabling' all but FEW APPS!) JUST SPONTANEOUSLY REBOOTS every time i try to do anything, I try to watch a video it is fine for 5 minutes or an hour then I push volume up or touch the screen and suddenly it reboots, totally random, Clearing the cache gets it to works for a while but it always does it again it has NEVER been usable really,.. It pops up some screen often like"Google Play Services have stopped' something like that,.. Will this help with any of that? Make it more,. stable?
I wish I could just do ANYThING simple to make it better I just use it for video playback,.
THANK YOU!
I have the same tab with the same issues. Rebooting, random cut out and full on reboot. Just before it became target practice I decided to take it apart, just because that's what I do when I'm bored and my ADHD is taking over. I looked up the tab on youtube to see if there was any vids of how to get it apart and found a guy that said he fixed the with the tablet that no one could figure out. Meh I was like ok I'll give him a couple seconds checked it out. He found that all connections, screws holding boards down, and power were all loose. Once he went through all of that it had fixed the issues. So I tried it and damn, everything from screws holding boards down to power feeds were all loose, really bad loose. Got mine working good now. Haven't had issues since. Now if I can get it rooted I'll be good. And I suspect the loose connections would also potentially cause the battery to go bad from excessive amperage draw and charge in short time, over time.
Over the last couple of years my SM-G860P (Sprint G5 Sport) has gotten rooted and flashed and had a update go real bad. I'd like to just run it back to factory stock. Any version. No custom rom. no custom recovery. Just like it's out of the box. But the amount of information out there has me ready to throw both my phone and computer against a wall. I don't understand the techno speak. (dodxed? Bootloader? undodexed MOAR? Kernals?)
I've been trying for 3 days to get back to plain simple stock with a root. Ever since the update when bad it will run but things like bluetooth don't work. Rotate screen locked on one profile etc. But the sheer number of pages from various dates and various versions of various programs has me frustrated.
Is there a simple way to put it back to out of the box stock? I can let keis or regular updates handle the rest. A "how to go back to stock for idiots"?
Captain Quack
You really shouldn't be flashing anything if you don't know what those terms mean. But anyways, download the correct file for your phone from sammobile.com. MAKE SURE IT IS THE CORRECT ONE FOR YOUR PHONE. Then use Odin (program, you can find it pretty easily if you look for it). Put in the file you got from sammobile, plug in your phone to the computer. Power down your phone, then press Vol Down, Power, and Home at the same time. Follow what it says on screen. Press the button on Odin to send the file over to your phone. DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR DEVICE. After that's done, wait for your phone to reboot. It might take a while (upwards to an hour). If you did it right, then you should be back on stock. There are plenty of videos on YouTube if you need help.
followed the videos. followed the tutorials. had 3 different versions of Odin and 3 or 4 different ROM and kernal files. did everything you said more than once. still not working. tried keis3 and that killed it. can't boot into anything and doesn't show up on the computer. I'm just going to give up on it. we find it interesting my wife's identical phone is starting to act up now. she has data. but no text or phone. off to the service center!
you cant even got download mode? if not, then hes dead Jim. youd need to sent it off for a force flash direct to the mobo
