[Q] beats audio? - HTC Sensation

What exactly is beats audio? Is it different hardware or just software? I have a sensation 4g and flashed numerous ROMs, some with and some without beats audio, and I can't tell any difference with the audio and I can't find any explanation and/or specs. Is there something I'm missing? I've just been assuming its hardware I don't have, so haven't much worried about it.

It's a software enhancement. Bit like the Equalizer in PowerAMP really.
Scroll down on this review which has a little bit of an explanation: http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/13/htc-sensation-xe-with-beats-audio-review/
In my experience it makes my music sounds a bit more 'bassy' and loud. I quite like it since it seems suited to most of my music. But if I didn't have it, it wouldn't be something I really missed.

And only works with the HTC music player, not on CM9 or google music player. Meaning the beats audio setting is triggered in that app only.

Not entirely true. It may not work with those you have referenced, but it does work with other players than just the HTC software. Not sure what a software dev has to do to make use of it, but it is possible.

[Q] Is it possible to play .flac with the beats audio in Sensation?

I just want to ask, is it possible to play .flac lossless audio format with the stock HTC player so that the beats audio enhancement is in effect??
Thanks for reading
is it so impossible that no one replied to this thread? O_O
Why not use another player? Do you really need that Beats enhancement that bad? You realize that if you are gonna use FLAC, you should be using good headphones/IEMs that can take advantage of the format, right? And on top of that, if you are using good headphones/IEMs, you really shouldn't use that stupid Beats mode in the first place.

I've also encountered the same problem also: Can't play FLAC.
First off, I checked through /system/lib/modules and I found no FLAC libs (.so) there so I think this is the case why my HTC Sensation can't play Lossless FLAC format.
Currently I'm converting my music library from FLAC to M4A to be able to enjoy my music collections on my HTC Sensation.

[Q] Is there a hack for BEATS audio to work in more than....

...the HTC Music Player.
Currently it only works in the built in music player. Bummer. I was hoping any music app on the device would be able to use Beats Audio.

Nope beats only work with HTC music player.Sound really good with a little eq,HTC music player isn`t that bad,i like it
I have an HTC ONE V, and my Beats Audio works with the Poweramp music player also, EQ settings and all.
I tested it with Beats on and off and Beats works with it, whether through headphones or Bluetooth.

Do You Really Need The First Letter Of Each Word To Be A Capital?
And poweramp allows beats audio, even on sense 3.6 but really guys, all this hype over beats audio - its just an EQ profile, nothing more...

Hi,
how do I enable beats on non-sense ROM ? or you saying it will not have effect on audio quality ?
As I understand, I need to flash extra mod ?
there is an app on google store, that says it enables beats audio, but I don't this its working, cause Poweramp is not showing beats settings.
thanks a lot !

For non-sense ROMs, you're better off flashing THIS
try flash Anthrax kernel. it has system-wide beats support.
beats is like, 40% rom and 60% kernel, i heard.

+1 for BASSmod, works well with AOSP roms
Beats is overhyped, nothing special about it. I can tweak the EQ in PlayerPro and the music will sound tons better than Beats. maybe its all about personal preference, or youd just like to see the Beats symbol on your status bar lol

I agree with this, I have my own custom EQ profile that to my ears sounds much much better than beats - beats is lacking in mid and the bass isnt too great either (yes its an improvement on no effect but still not enough for me)

Beats audio in ARHD rom?

first Thread here, please be kind.
first of all, awesome website, awesome developers, and awesome ARHD roms.
i flashed my sensation with ARHD sensation XE rom and it has been nothing but awsome so far. however, as a audiophile myself, i cannot help but noticed something changed in the audio department.
with the default HTC audio player, the music became almost unlistenable without Beats enabled. the overwhelming amount of bass pretty much ruins everything. I don't recall this was the case before flashing the ARHD rom. and when i use 3rd party player (like Winamp) with no EQ change, the music is on par with using HTC audio player with Beats turned on.
so here is my theory:
1. HTC is really play dirty here by purposely making the musics sounds so bad that user has to enable the Beats audio on models that support Beats audio.
2. Sensation is not compatible with Senstion XE rom?
is this an isolated case? or are you guys all experiencing it?
Thanks
Never had that, flash again maybe?

i think i flashed a number of times and i have noticed this every time.
could you do test on your phone?
listen to a music file with HTC music player with beats off, and beast on.
and listen to the same file with a 3rd party player with flat eq setting.
since 3rd party player cannot trigger beats audio, it should sound just like HTC player with Beats disabled.
my problem is it sounded like HTC player with beats enabled, while the HTC player with beats disabled sounds like carp (granted my head phone cost as much as sensation itself so i might hear a bit more, but the difference should be very significant to spot with just regular earphones)
For ICS, HTC have modified the Beats algorithm (imho)
So now, beats enabled is as the player should be,
Beats disabled, has HTC crippling the sound to make Beats sound better than it is
I think.....
A very nice posting from my ARHD XE
Sorry but.... do you guys use piracy OLD version of power amp? New version of it has Beats Audio in EQ. Better just buy Power Amp and get an update with Beats Audio in EQ And on topic, I don`t have this issue. Maybe it`s related on headphones, as I`m using headphones from SE Xperia Arc S, but with some others headphones sound is really bad.
I don't use Beats anymore as it sucks out my battery.
Google Music has pretty nice sound, don't need more than that.
I've found that using dsp manager as well as beats audio gives the best sound.

Probably but more bass does not mean better quality audio, if anything this would sacrifice quality to give more bass.
Make a backup of your current setup. Download the Beats Audio for any phone from the Rezound forum. Try that out. Also, DSP with Beats works well for combo EQ. You may try Poweramp or other music apps as well. The more you have, the more customization, but also a little hassle on remembering. Poweramp has the Beats and SRS effects included on devices with supported hardware.

I second poweramp. I hate buying apps but it is so worth the price. just make sure you don't have beats installed as they don't always play nice. It has a much better equalizer than any standalone app.

Beats audio gone? URGENT

Okay I flashed the cyanogenmod rom... and im not sure if i still have my beats audio because everytime it used to show a beats audio logo on the top and even in the notification bar and it had a circle with a green check next to it giving u the option to turn off and on beats audio...now not so much.. can someone tell me if i do or not and can u help me get it back if not?
Beats audio was more of a software than a hardware feature on the One X. The cm10 people and probably most of the us who use it would prefer and point you towards the DSPManager app that is installed. That gives you a fuller control over the equalizer and is typically better than the beats audio software.
Also try jet audio player.. It's awesome and has an equalizer, a bunch of presets, and you can really tweak the sounds.. I look in the themes and apps to find a copy

You should be glad.
Beats audio is just a gimmick. An equalizer, a software feature, not hardware.
The audio engine that comes with CM10 is much better , and acid audio,,etc.

Agreed. Beats isn't even necessary if you use an amplifier like Poweramp. What Beats adds is hardly anything but a bit of low bass resonance. If its off and you have an equalizer you can easily make up the sound difference with said equalizer.
I happen to enjoy Poweramp. It turns my car audio setup Into an even more powerful stereo due to preamp etc.
