After flashing CM7, I've been having trouble with my data network. I have bars, I can make calls and text, but I've never seen a 2g or 3g symbol in my status bar. Sending or receiving MMS is impossible. I've seen snippets of similar problems in some other threads, where they couldn't use their data plan at all. Baseband switcher doesn't work when I select any of the USA Tmobile basebands.
Has anyone had similar problems? Maybe even a solution?
Other info:
Yes, data over mobile network is enabled.
I flashed UK Froyo Retail 2.2.2, and applied CM7. I'll flash Nordic later and reply.
I do not have a data plan, but an unlimited texting plan, so I should be able to send MMS.
Update:
---------------------------------------------------------
Flashed Nordic SBF, and data initially worked fine when I applied CM7. However, after some reboots, restoring some apps, I don't know when exactly but I lost it. Just bars again.
Tried applying some USA T-mobile basebands, and none of them gave me data.
Start all over dude.

That's what I'm thinking.
Back when CM7 was in beta, I still had this issue, with Nordic as my sbf. I flashed back to stock and whoop-dee-do, I had 3G.
When Quarx released his RC, I thought that my problem would have been fixed already. In my paranoia, I thought that if I had a UK Tmobile sbf, I wouldn't have any problems. I still do though. I'll flash Nordic when I can, and come back with the results.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem before.
You need to use the basebandswitcher tool to select a US T-Mobile baseband before you can use the 3G network.
I flashed Nordic, the one in the FAQ. I got data now.
Thanks.
I'mbhaving this same issue, and curious to the problem as well, 3G seems alot slower, its not because I dontbhave service I'm running full bars and network is really slow

Any suggestions?

For me, with RC1, often when leaving a WiFi area, data will simply not work unless I completely reboot the phone. *sometimes* switching between 2g and 3g will get it working again.

I live in Austin and I started having that problem starting tuesday Afternoon.l My phone running MIUI 1.6.24 was working fine till then, and then started dropping signal, switching to edge and entering "emergency calls only mode a lot".
I used baseband switcher to switch to a different baseband, but the only way I could access data was with the original MIUI 1.6.24 ROM and even then, only edge.
I tried reflashing the T-MO US SBF as well as the nordic SBF, and I don't get any data any more.
I am going to try to flash CM 7 to see if I still have the problem.
What is the US base kernal for T-Mobile network?

Do you use titanium backup? Maybe it's a setting or app causing this.
I had data when I applied cm7 at first. But I lost it when I began personalizing it.

Did anyone found a fix yet for the problem that can't send messeges when coneccted t
o 4g?
Sure haven't. I just use CM7 now since it has the 2/4g toggle in notification... I just deal with it now, until a new baseband is out for us, I don't think it will be fixed.
What type of messages? I email, text and mms all day. I've only had 1 time where a picture failed to send and I restart solved that.

It used to work well but because of some incident, though not confirmed yet, there is us in that group that can't send mms when 4g in on. As if sms wont trigger the 2g/gsm switch for it to be able the sms to be send.

There is a setting in the LG hidden menu that could fix it, but LG has not implemented it. Under modem settings there is a CS/PS preference (Carrier Signal/Packet Switched). You want that set to CS. Almost no carrier in the world has implemented PS sending for sms. When you select CS you get a toast message that says not implemented yet. If LG had implemented that setting to the baseband it would fix this problem. It appears the issue is that automatic CS fallback has been turned off. When on on 2G or wifi, sms message are sent by CS by default. On 3G and 4G, for some stupid reason, Android tries to send them first on PS, then when it cannot be sent that way, the modem is supposed to auto-fallback to CS and send the sms. For some reason instead of performing the fallback the modem is just throwing up a general error and giving up. If anyone can figure out how to issue a command to the modem and turn auto-fallback back on I think it would fix this issue.
I don't have such problem (sending text) when the phone displays "H" (I use Eagleblood AOSP ROM because I don't like 2G/4G).

Has anyone tried using the KDZ method to do an emergency restore of the Gingerbread firmware and baseband? That seems like it could fix the issue if during the process it resets all the baseband settings.

Is not mms is sms only, only it happends when is connected to 4g network, when i am in 2g netwkrk, uma wifi calling or data disable it works fine. Is like the phone forgot the command to switch to 2g network to send sms message and then switch back to 4g. One doesnt see this switch because it happends in seconds
Well I still have the problem. My carrier cannot help me they have tried everything at this point they are asking me to return the phone.
I really wish this was fixed!

Hey Everyone,
Can anyone who has been using a D2G on a GSM network, I am on Rogers in Canada myself, provide some feedback on which ROM's they have tried aside from stock blur rom, that has worked properly with GSM?
I know CM7 doesn't work worth **** on GSM and the MIUI ICS that is out has mixed GSM reviews.
So if anyone has any ideas or positive results I would love to hear about it.
Otherwise, it will be time to say bye bye to the D2G
Froyo-based CM7 was perfectly stable on GSM.
Gingerbread-based, I don't dare touch it. I know MIUI works, but there are quirks.
I tried CM7 Gingerbread. It worked well for calls but i could not get it to accept an APN so I couldn't get data except on Wi-Fi. after a couple of days I gave up and ran into the Miui ICS build. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and I'm quite happy with it. I did have to install third party app to get it to accept an APN at first (it kept FCing from the Android settings menu) but after that it's all been perfect.
What cell carrier network are you using? GSM ? Rogers? What was the apn fixer app called. Thanks.

Hi everyone!
My service supplier uses different APNs for internet & mms. I'm using CyberGR Mod v11, which is a 4.0.4 rom.
I find that my phone can only send MMS when wifi is connected with mobile data on, while it can't when no wifi. Of course the settings are all the same.
so here I guess that the Android OS couldn't switch APN automatically, maybe when one APN is in-use.
Anyone has any idea/information about the problem or solution?
Thanks!
My phone can do it fine either way, so I guess there's another thing.
I couldn't send or receive MMS on CyberGR (v10)rom on wifi or 3G.
No one seemed to have a solution except that my apn settings were wrong. They weren't.
Switched to CM9 nightly and everything's good.
Not quite as cool as CyberGR but way more stable and no bugs so far

The only thing keeps me away from original CM9 is that I don't have a fast way to turn torch on.
I love CyberGR for all its Mods especially all the toggles. Just need a daily driver right now where everything works though.

Hi everybody,
We all know that ICS has made it a bit difficult to edit your APN(s). We also know that some of us have been having issues getting MMS to work when we install ICS on our Epics.
Luckily after a lot of research and a little tinkering I found a great fix that worked right away. I took the APN Settings from an Epic Touch 4g.
1. Within you Epic open your Voice Dialer App.
2. When prompted say "Open APNs".
3. Another pop up will appear, tap on the OPEN APNs message that pops up.
4. The next screen will show one single APN called Sprint tap on it.
5. On the next screen you will see the list of settings for the specific APN. Below are the list of settings that finally got my MMS working.
a. Username: Sprint
b. MMS Proxy: 68.28.31.7
c. MMS Port: 80
**ALL OTHER SETTINGS STAY THE SAME**
6. Once completed tap the menu button and tap save.
7. Reboot for good luck.
Steps 1-3 will also work for Epic owners trying to edit APN settings to use on another carrier.
Hope the info helps!

I believe it only applies to 3G since the APLs are only used as network identifiers by mobile devices.

The first three steps were from another post i found through a Google search (Dont ask, i unfortunately dont remember). Once i found out how to access the APL in ICS it was just of matter of finding the APL info for another Sprint phone (in this case a Galaxy II) and entering that info in my Epic's APL.
this was one of the main reasons i installed TPR, may have to switch back to ICS, if this fixes the MMS issues!
Very interesting. Now I need to receive an mms to test.
One thing I noticed was after following all steps, a lot of other information was populated in the Sprint settings when I went back to look.

Wanted to give out a BIG thanks for this fix
I installed CM9, RC1, and had issues sending MMS. Was unsure if it was the towers in San Diego, as I was just visiting,or the phone, but as I has some extra time, I went so far as to do a full wipe and reload of CM9 RC1. Still, over several days, was unable to get a MMS to send 9 out of 10 times, no matter what I tried, while plain text messages went right away.
I rebooted my phone, tried sending a MMS, and it stuck on sending. Gave it 15-20, and even rebooted. Still stuck at sending. I deleted the message, made this fix, rebooted, and tried to send a MMS again, and the MMS sent right away
huge thanks for this! works like magic.

I too can confirm that this works to solve the MMS issues on WIFI. However, be careful; when I rebooted after applying the fix, my phone tried resending all of my past MMS messages. It really bogged my phone down, and I had to delete them in order to stop it from happening.
