About twice a day, when browsing with the default browser, it will lock up, give the one vibrate followed by two...stay locked up, do the vibration pattern again and then present a black screen. About two minutes later, it appears it rebooted but never showed the Samsung or AT&T logos...
Anyone else having this issue?

Has not happen to me.
It could have been the site you visited. Try Dolphin HD, much better than stock browser.

All of the Galaxy S phones experience this occasionally when viewing certain heavy websites like the pocketnow.com desktop site, especially if you get a few tabs going. Nice to see Samsung still hasn't fixed that. I suggest Opera Mobile.
I can vouch for the browser crapping out on any large website, this was one of reasons I switched from the captivate to the inspire. Used an infuse today and noticed the browser froze right away on anything with flash content.
I like the stock browser but I will try Opera Mobile for a while to see if it helps...it was my browser of choice on WM 6.5

If I remember correctly on my captivate there were a few development who had tweaked the browser.apk to fix rendering issues and freezing. Will have to go back and read changelogs on some of the custom roms

This happened again today...on both of our phones...anyone else encounter this lately? It is starting to become a show stopper for us on this otherwise awesome phone!
I had the same problem. The stock browser is a RAM hog. Use opera mobile, much much better and faster!

Just use Dolphin browser, when out of ram it will not load new tab on the background unless you open the background tab,

Well here's my quandry... I like the stock browser and I didn't have this problem with my Captivate... I am just really hoping that we can find a solution for this. I did reset the browser back to default settings and so far in the past couple days this is not happened... I'm not saying it fixed it but I will monitor it for a few days.
Side note however..
How can I make one of the other browsers the default browser and also where do I go to reset that back to the stock browser?
Thanks...

If you're having problems with the stock browser just switch to an alternative like dolphin or firefox etc. Many improvements over the simple UI and limited functionality of the stock browser anyway.

I'm trying something different now... I think I was on wi-fi each and every time that the browser locked up the phone and rebooted... I am going to try to keep it off of wifi for a few days and do regular browsing see what happens

It is quite annoying and honestly unacceptable... using another browser is only a bandaid... this needs to be made loud and clear to at&t and samsung... there is a problem here...

Opera always works for me.
Think you have to press download, then "try again" and download and it should work.
What he's saying is that it loads a blank page no button to press I'm having the same problem on stock 2.3.4

I noticed this yesterday as well.
I think the problem is that mediafire doesn't like the android user agent anymore.
If your browser supports it, change your user agent to desktop and refresh the page. You'll be able to download after that.
The browser I used was Boat Browser btw. You guys should check it out

There's a downloader app in the market place that's supposed to help alleviate this issue as well as downloading of large files or files that tend to fail. Sadly I don't remember what it's called.

Hey all!
What is your preferred browser?
I am a continuous user of Opera Mini for several reasons. The top of which being the data usage savings thanks to the compression from Opera servers. My second reason, it's simple to use and fast as all get out even when on 2G.
Being open to change though, I'm curious to see what others use regularly. Thanks guys n Gals, let me know. Any input is appreciated.

Rude and rather on the condescending side as you seem to be assuming I didn't already look for a post like this but I'll give you your upper-hand and admit that I must have missed it, so I'll bite the rest of my tongue and apologize anyway. Have a super day. :good: :good:

***disregard this post, it seems the post it was directed at has been removed.
stock browser.
its light-weight and therefore fast, all websites run on it no problem and it syncs with my chrome because my chrome is synced with my google account.
but also im on nexus s, so cant really handle the chrome browser optimally.
perhaps for s3 or galaxy nexus it would be worthwhile using the chrome browser.
For me its opera mini just for the fact it loads pages quicker and its snappier than stock or any other browser I've came across.
But when YouTube app decides to start hiccupping I go to stock for YouTube.

Yeah I tried Firefox for a while. Was pretty impressive but it seemed like a bit of a memory/storage hog. Other than that, no gripes with it. I have used Firefox on my laptop for I don't know how long and love it.

Dolphin HD is a really nice fluid browser. Maybe switch to Chrome when I get ICS because its such a great computer browser
So many choices but havent found "the one" yet. Which one do you find to be the best performer?

I recommend boat browser. Flash working, gestures, full screen.
I was using the stock one until recently.
Installed firefox and synced it with my desktop. Has a few quirks but overall its my main browser now.

I'm working with Dolphins Browser. It's fast and fully support flash. For me is this the best browser for Android

Yes next is very good its my No2 atm, 1st is chrome because I need tabs on top for quick change.
After testing a number of browsers I have to say that the newer versions of Chrome is hard to beat. I love the "swipe between tabs" feature and that it syncs so good with the phone as well as the desktop and laptop.

My choice is firefox.. really smooth surfing on note 10.1
have used chrome much since i use firefox on desktop as well..
It also depends what browser you use most on desktop
The new Chrome v28 works very well.
Chrome for sure. Logged in to the same account on my phone, and my other 3 computers. So where ever I go, or what ever device I'm on, I have all the same tabs open and ready to go. Works flowless.
I'm with Maxthon for years....

Thanks for all the ideas. I've tried most of them, each seems to have its pluses and minuses or one key feature that doesn't work for me. E.g. Chrome works on my banking site but the copy/paste function doesn't work. Firefox won't pinch/zoom for me. Thought Boat browser was going to be the one, thought it was working on my band site bill pay but at the very end it wouldn't submit the payments. Probably all of these problems are User Error.

It's a toss-up between Maxthon HD and the latest Chrome for me... Chrome was terrible originally (despite how bizarre that is), but recent versions have been pretty awesome. Maxthon has always been rock solid. My 2 cents.

chrome is the only browser you need, it syncs your bookmarks between desktop and tablet/mobiles so you never have to save them manually, all the other browsers on the android market don't even do that, i think firefox has this feature too, i have firefox installed for websites that use flash as chrome won't work with them properly.
I may have to try chrome. It has been awhile. Dolphin is good since it plays flash and supports multi window/dual view.

Another thing you may want to try is the stock browser with a different user agent. I've found some sites function better when using the iPad user agent (web designers favor Apple, big shock).
I'm not sure if this works on non-rooted ROMs, but the UAstring option appears under settings after typing about:debug in the stock browser's address bar.

I use the stock browser. Over the years I have tried various browsers, learned the gestures and so on. Each one was quirky. The stock browser just works. I shouldn't have to fiddle with user agents, or gestures or jumoing through rings of fire to read web pages.

Anyone have a surefire way to get streaming to work from sites like atdee.net?
I've tried Firefox, chrome, dolphin, and boat browsers.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Keeps saying update codec. I've installed flash 11.1 and thought that would do it.
Any help would be appreciated.
