Kernal help? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just downloaded and flash this one
3.0.18-SG-NS-ICS-g6430611
[email protected] #36
I'm on Peter Alfonso's ICS nightly (most current 4.0.3)
Build number IML74K
Baseband I9020AUCKB2
On the koodo network in canada london to be exact... I am just tryin to figure how to get to the settings after flashing said Kernal and what settings are best for long battery life?...
Also something about wallet I seen and heard tell of some people using it here in canada some from Canada them selves how would thus work if it is based in the US right now...?
Otherwise I am happy with my upgrades and this device is running great for now till official drops and it gets better...
Now just to get ICS on MY OG transformer lol

Listen I suggest you flash the Rom & kernel again follow these steps go into recovery wipe data then wipe cache then go to advance & wipe dalvik cache after you wipe all 3 go to mounts & storage wipe system then wipe boot after than flash the Rom you want then flash the kernel you want after that just before you reboot go back into advance & fix permission then reboot you should be golden
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium

Yeah may try that upon getting to a computer, just seem tedious, lol, though aside from market fc'ing on me am I really gonna use Nfc and wallet I mean I live in canada so it's not much i can do with it, though I heard tell of a rumor that Google is bringing it up here to us soon...

Can't download hardly anything from market anymore

I don't know what's going on, but I can hardly install anything from the market anymore, it all says my phone is incompatible, which I find quite laughable. Amy ideas as to what's up with that? CM7 nighties are what I run.

Go in to settings and try to clear data for the market reboot and try again. If not try diffrent ggapps

Firstly did you update to the latest market 3.3.12? If you did that might be the issue,I would do as the previous post said and try to clear your data then let it resign you into the market. If you have updated to the latest and that's when the issue started try the reverting back to the previous version. Here is a link for the previous version and the latest version. Hope this helps.

I had the old market. I installed the new, wiped data, and i'm getting the same

Oddly I went to the market itself, and it also says for example that my phone is, incompatible with flickie wallpapers

Running custom rom?
Sent from my AT100 using Tapatalk
Might want to try uninstalling Market. Then boot into recovery wipe cache, wipe dalvik, and reboot. Then reinstall the market. See if that helps.
Could be a WAP issue

I got it figured out everyone. I had changed my LCD density ages ago and kinda just forgot about it. The "LCD Density" app on the markey does something and i couldn't install anything until i wiped it 100% fresh and started with a wiped clean install of CM7 excellent suggestions all around though!
Glad you got it worked out.

[Question] Kernel flashing and matrix kernel specifically.

Hello everyone!
Phone: nexus s 3g running stock 4.0.3 with matr1x 14.0 kernel
my 1st question:
i was wondering how can revert back to stock kernel without flashing my stock rom again or going back to my previous backup?
i know it is very easy to switch from kernel to kernel but i would like to know how to switch back to my stock kernel. If you come across a link please send it to me. Thanks much appreciated.
my 2nd question:
my phone reboots the 1st time when loading up matrix kernel.
what happens is i press the power button .. the phone boots up normally then halfway through the animation it gets stuck and the phone reboots BUT this time the boot animation works properly and i am finally booted to my phone. Note that i have absolutely no issues running the kernel + BLn + Voodo etc (also not oced either)
question how can i solve this? is it normal?
I have one last question (sorry lol)
about voodo colour is there anyway of removing the grren flash that i get from unlocking the phone.
i know i can reset to 2.3.3 colours and that does do the trick but i would like to use my own custom settings..
stock 3.0.8 kernel can be found here in 3rd post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399273
Questions regarding matrix should be asked and may already be answered in his thread
And green flash is common on kernels with voodoo it also turns screen green occasionally for me when auto brightness set
not sure how to fix haven't researched doesn't bother me that much
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Alright...
First off is this a specific rom? Like kustom kream, nexus beam..
Or just stock ics rooted
Second, try this again.
Get the rom zip again, then get the kernel zip again.
1. Wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache
2. Flash rom
3. Set up rom
4. Go back to cwm
5. Wipe dalvik cache
6. Flash kernel
7. Reboot
Did you do it like that?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Green flash can be fixed by downloading the voodoo control app in the market then going to the RGB profiles then selecting the voodoo profile

Green flash can be fixed by using either 2.3.3 colors or punchy

im on offical ICS 4.0.3 rom stock (rooted) with matr1x 14.0 CFS
well i downloaded matr1x through rom manager and after wiping dalvik cache i flashed the kernel.
is there anyway of fixing without clearing data? i have a lot of stuff on my phone i would rather not erase... also im on stock ICS so how would go about flashing it again(its not like a rom i can just dl and install or is it)?
speaking of which i know titanium backup backs up apps but does it also backup like my contacts, sms and phone settings etc?
update: i went ahead and only deleted cache and dalvik cache and then installed the kernel again. same problem =/

The only other suggestion I have is to try another rom...

thanks for trying .
anyways the thing is the kernel works perfectly fine other then that and sinc ei dont reboot my phone so much its really not an issue for me.
just another quick thing since that is the only problem i have experienced with the kernel and that everything else is fine working fine should i be worried about stability?
No, the kernel is pretty stable out of the box.

Just bought skyrocket what to do?

Just bought a used skyrocket only problem is the battery door got Lil scratches (already order new one on eBay for 5 bucks) but got it for a sweet 200! So people its already rooted (he said he used super one click) stock recovery and on 2.3.6 is it hard to install roms on here and any good ones?

All the roms are good and their not very hard to install. Make sure you do your fair share of reading. All the info you need are in these forums. Look at the sticky threads in each section. Good luck

Looking good!
im using skymod 5.1. uses Apex launcher and is fairly stable...thing is you never know with ROMs based on leaked code if it's the dev or just bugged ICS code.
ill i really want is an experience that's just pure Android, no UI BS...just pure. I miss my Nexus One for that exact reason.
Here's all the ROMS for skyrocket: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383464
I'm running ICS RC7.4 Speed though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377087
Yes so many ICS roms yet they ain't stable for DD right? Also feel so dumb and totally forgot the the rocket has nfc. So far reading no ics rom has that working correct? I'm assuming that one we get a official release of ICS then nfc should work?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
1) nfc works
2) many people use it as a dd, no fcs or instabilities, just a few tiny bugs, that may or may not annoy (shutdown/reboot anyone?)

As well as the ROMS this "all in one location" helped me it links how to Root (different methods) one click works best for me, talks about kernals, ODIN return to stock, and much more.
As always READ READ READ. I read for about 2 months. Was rooted, downloaded an app that borked my modem. Knew exactly where to go to return to stock......
OK have to look at it ICS some more just loving alien#6 to much with faux kernel!
But anybody recommended a ICS that's pretty stable and has nfc working?

Started with NexusMod 4 and quickly went to NexusMod ICS Slim. This ROM blazes on the latest ICS leak and the developer is quick on updates and support. I personally use it as a Daily Driver with very few hiccups.

Currently on SKY ICS UCLD2 by seanzscreams.
It's pretty good but read and reread the instructions he posted when installing this ROM.
I believe the ics superlite by mhx is a simpler install.

[Q] infused rom help email forces closing...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220088
i did this on my infuse gingerbread (rooted) and once downloaded i cannot finish the setup process because email process force close's as soon as its time to use my email. what should i do?
Be sure that you follow the 4 main steps before you flash any ROM or PORT for a good flash:
On CWM (Recovery Mode screen blue or red)
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Wipe Cache partition
3. Advanced>Clean dalvik cache
After this steps flash your rom then:
4. Advanced/Fix Permisions.
It works for me all times.
Regards,
How will I flash then if I remove all my data including root. Everything I wipe to factory it goes back to froyo non root. Do I keep recovery for the flashing somehow? And during the whole setup like connecting to Wi-Fi it's clean works goods no lag then email force closes there has to be a reason other than me not wiping to factory.. isn't that the point of these kind of apps.. why download it if I'm gonna spend the next 4hrs trying figure out.... I'm just gonna stop here with root. The rest of it is way!!!!!!! To much lol. You guys have at it tho!!

ok, stay in this thread I already request to close your other one ok, now lets start over what are doing and what have you done, and what rom are you on or trying to go to...?
just take it easy it is prob an easy, quick fix...ok
OK but I bet u get confused and quit lol. OK I'm on gingerbread. 2.3.6 rooted blah blah blah. Lol OK now once I do the infused download threw rom manager I get to the point were it's time to put in my email and it pops up email.process failed to start force close or something to that nature. Anyway after trying this one and Ics I now have a new bootanimation which was the point of the whole deal. Lol it's a suck one but hey!!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Why are you using Rom manager? I've only heard of bricks and problems from people using it...just download a Rom you want from xda, then boot into cwm and flash from cwm recovery by following instructions from the roms thread on xda
You may also just wanna try going back to stock through Odin/heimdal to fix your email problems if you don't wanna flash a Rom
Also what is the ics download your referring to? There are multiple ice roms/ports...you need to be as specific as possible on anything and everything...I always say better more than not enough
Also...just to clarify when you are in cwm and you wipe data/factory resetit only wipes your apps and system data...recovery is in the kernel which is not wiped...so if you follow the instructions of the roms op and do all the wipes then you can still flash
Good luck hope you get it all fixed
PS...bigjoe knows what he's doing as do a lot of us here...I don't think most of us,are gonna get confused and quit...as for me I love solving problems and trouble shooting so I know I won't quit

Lol...ics/ice cream sandwhich is a version of android just like ginger bread is and froyo also is-just wanted to know the name of the Rom...like cm9 or uniporn or miui etc...
But yeah download a Rom from this site and assuming you have cwm recovery boot into it (hold power plus volume up+down, as soon as it turns off and the Samsung logo pops up release the buttons) then wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvic cache, then install from sdcard, locate Rom and flash it.

Problems with nexus s 4g

Every time I put my phone to sleep it freezes and reboots. Sometimes it'll reboot fine, others it'll freeze on the google boot screen until I pull the battery. I've tired 4 different ROMs from locked stock to unlocked Cm9 to baked and slimbean. I've tired dirty flashing. I'm out of ideas now. If anyone could help out I would greatly appreciate it.

Changing kernels is exactly like changing ROMs. You flash them, although, you have to wipe cache and dalvik cache every time you change a kernel. Look in the developer section for our phone, there are 3 kernel choices: Matr1x, Marmite, and Air Kernel. Test each out on different ROMs, find your favorite. Be sure though, if you're going to be hopping between Android versions (4.0.4 (ICS), 2.3.7 (GB), and 4.1.1/4.1.2 (JB)) You find the version of the kernel that corresponds with whatever version of Android the ROM you're using is running. As far as I know, Marmite is only available for JB, Matr1x has kernels for all versions of Android (GB-JB), and I think Air only has ICS and JB versions. Hope this helps!

Hi..
It either some junk files u have floating around ur SD card..
Or
Are u tweaking the CPU when u install the ROMs?
Or
Are u using titanium backup to restore any of ur apps?
Try to do the entire factor reset/ wipe both cache & dalvik but also flash a zip file call "wipe all" ( it formats everything under storage and mounts except the SD card stuff)
Then flash the newest slim bean 3.0 it comes with a good kernel
Flash it and do not add anything. Check if the sleep reboot issues still occur.
If not then make a backup b4 adding ur apps and restores since one of those can be causing it.
I hope it works... good luck
