Is it just me or is whatsapp really laggy on our phones? I am running ARHD, the gingerbread versoin, and it like I have a 100mhz processor..
I'm wondering if it is the ROM, or just that the whatsapp app is generally laggy.
Does anyone out here have a smooth whatsapp, and if so what ROM are u using and what kernel?

I have smooth operation on my device using whatsapp, I had it when I was on gingerbread ARHD, and I moved to an ICS RUU, ICS ARHD and now Virtuous Inquisition and all the time whatsapp has been fine for me maybe try clearing some ram?
It's okay on ARHD 6.2.0.
Haven't done anything special to make it smooth.

That is weird... its def not a ram issue cos it still the same when i have about 170mb free.
Do u mind telling me what kernel you were using on the ARHD ROM?
try any ICS ROM and ull see the HW Acc miracle
I use it on my device pretty regularly and have never had any problems with lag. Its as smooth as the native SMS application.
Running Hypersensation ROM V. 1.6. CPU clocked at 1026mhz.
That's weird I dont get why mine is so bad! It also doesn't load profile pics either :/ gona reinstall and not restore backup and see if that helps.

Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216197
Scroll down to where it says [ CFS ] (Mainline Edition) in the installation instructions, and download/flash that kernel. Make sure to backup your boot partition in recovery just incase whatsapp worked fine for me on that kernel, but it might not fix your problem.

Yeah your problem doesn't seem like it has anything to do with a kernel, sorry though
I'm having the same problem with whatsapp lagging on my desire S and android 2.3.5 when I scroll in a conversation but actually i realized that it runs very smooth if i have the keyboard on the screen so just when the conversation is full screen it lags....
I don't know if this has to do with the problem of android 2.3.5 and Desire S ...

Yea, exactly the same here...
I think this is because when the keyboard is open, less pixels are actually moving. Therefore it scrolls smoother because it is using less CPU/GPU
So I think the only proper way to solve this issue is by using full hardware acceleration, hence why ICS users say it works so well.
Yeah but it is weird!! why everything else runs smoothly...
If it's a hardware acceleration shouldn't other apps or games lags as well??

I know it does seem to just be whatsapp... and I seem to get it a bit with the ebay app too?
I think it might have something to do with the fact sense uses up so much RAM for GPU (around 300mb) because it works well on miui and cm7..
Just my theory tho
This used to happen to me when I was on all gingerbread roms, but now that I have moved to ICS the lag has gone (on all ICS roms that i've tried - ARHD, v.quattro, stock 4.0.1)
I think it might be due to the fact that all the roms I used had full GPU rendering enabled.. Therefore increasing scrolling smoothness and decreasing lag

Getting 2062 or more on Quadrant........ No issues yet! Great Apache thanks for bringing this over for us!!!
BTW using stock rooted rom.
well video still doesnt play well with DHD rom using this kernel. I think they must have different camera/video drivers or something. Its just weird that 2 phone with the same hardware dont 100% play well with each other software and driver wise. I can understand kernel differences but..
what rom are u using ? some are using old libs stock rooted sense should be fine also CM needs some more kernel work ....
also could someone please pull me /proc/config.gz ?
by
"adb pull /proc/config.gz"
and send it to me ? if there are issues they will be config wise

I loaded the 1.6 but havent went over 1334 yet... baby steps
So i just installed cm9, and my phone can only go to 1188mhz so how do i over clock because i know the sensation can go to 1.6
Install system tuner and try to raise the value. If not, install a kernel compatible with cm9 and u should be good.
On some of the early nightlies I was able to use faux123's 005b3 asop kernel and overclocked to 1.78. I only used it on a couple of the early nightlies. I tried flashing it a few days ago and got bootloops. I think that was on nightly 01, maybe 30.
Stock kernel works fine for me. Overclock will probably be available sometime down the road. Someone on cm9 dev thread is running faux's kernel now, apparently without problems. I guess YMMV, or maybe that should be MMMV.
Isn't there a kernel less than 1.78 like 1.67 or something. A 1.6 kernel should be ok and u don't need to turn it up to max.

For CM9, faux is the only one that maybe works as far as I know. There is a mod over in the dev forum that overclocks to 1.5, I think. Haven't tried it, so I can't verify.
cm9 was great, but it wasn't stable yet and couldn't be over clocked
so i tried aokp that wasn't as good the screen looked too small and spaced out, but yo ucould over clock. And unfortunately without me knowing my phone was backing up my apps, ON MY DATA, so i owe virgin about 200$ now =_= for using 70$
In the end i went back to arhd, do yo uguy have any recommendation.
Use faux kernel 005b3 it will over clock it to 1.728.and it is stable and will run great.I have been running it for 5 days no problem.

First make double sure the kernel is compatible with your rom and operating system and firmware . Then wipe cash.and dalvik cash, then flash like a rom. By downloading the Kernel to the root of your SD card and flash through recovery. I like 4 ext recovery. After wiping you install from SD card then reboot. Hope this helps.
Of course do the download first, then wipe, then flash

No it wont run better. Have you tried other ROM's?
Beamed from my Senny..
no only ordroid but i am thinking of changing current rom i like HTC sense but i also want to try some other.
is there a chance all this to be becouse of kernel, should i change kernel first
Make a Nandroid backup of your current rom and yes, you could try different kernels, but you could also try different roms. If you like the sense based roms try Elegancia (there are different sense versions) or Android Revolution HD. As far as I know the development of Ordroid is finished so you will not see any update on that but the two other mentioned above are updated and they are really good roms. Try them and as you have the backup of Vipers rom you can always revert back to that.
True give other rom a try. Also try out jelly bean. I'm using paranoid Android by Dragun and it's very fast with newest kernel. I came from viper to paranoid Android and I love it. It's a great rom. Try it out too and see what you think. It's been stable and amazing! Tethering works perfectly with Wi-Fi tether and it's not laggy. I've personally really enjoyed the switch. At first I was worried how stable jelly bean would be but it's proven to be smooth fast and really stable. So while trying out different roms do give this a try I think you will like it.

I installed cm10 by bruce it's very good and smooth but,,, he has performance option in settings and there i can over clock and set frequencies of my cpu.
I was reading about Overclocked Kernel v1.5.2 by SebastianFM and faux kernel that they are realy good and fast. i also want to play 3d games so is it better to keep cm10 stock kernel or instal some of them ???

ICS and JB are not fully working and since you want a stable one I'd stay away from those.

The only way that will work is on Adampk's and Mazout360's CM10.1 Rom Build 7 which is the only rom that has full HWA to make the camera work properly. Downside is that the Radio (Cellular Network) will NOT work. This means no calls, SMS, data, etc. Anything to do with your Mobile Network will not work.

If you have problems with Faux kernels try Trinitys. I could never get Faux's kernels to play nice with my phone and while they ran smoother the random reboots, black screens and having to keep phone from sleeping just killed it for me.

guys I think the best rom is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420972 that one for me! At least the developer tells the specs of the rom clearly... I just did not understand how to install v6supercharger, it seems hard to do.
I currently have KashaMalaga (jb 4.1.1.) with harsh kernel 1.4 GHZ everything's looking pretty stable except camera ( no 1080p ) well I'll go with that for a while than maybe install above rom and hopefully v6supercharger
I installed Hellfire cm7 GB 2.3.7. with v6 supercharger. All fine but screen sensitivity is really low.
