I'm trying to fix my brother's phone. He was running one of the GB Valhallas and then one day his baseband just disappeared. Considering that my Vibrant had the same issue once when flashing ICS, I just downloaded a CWM flashable modem thinking it would solve the problem. Nothing changed and the baseband still showed nothing so I downloaded a new rom, flashed it, it booted but the baseband was still nothing. So I tried to use heimdall to flash just the modem, it gave me some weird error, so I turned the phone off to try again and then that's when it just turned on with a blank white screen. I can't seem to get it into download mode or to even boot normally. Anything I can do? Is a jig my only option? Would that even work?
Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks
Have you tried pulling the battery, plugging it into the usb able and the usb cable into the computer, then press the power button and volume buttons at the same to to get into download mode?
If you can do that, you can use the heimdall one click and completely reflash the phone.
yep I've tried that, I've tried every combo known to man. Just keeps coming up with a white screen

When it's on & plugged into the PC via the USB cable, does the.computer recognize it? Have you tried opening ODIN to see if it recognizes it? I'm just wondering if you're getting into a download mode but you just can't tell due to the white screen.

If not that, then make a jtag and try that. Otherwise, if it is still under warranty, call samsung and do a repair ticket for it. Don't tell them you flashed anything to it. Say it just spontaneously happened...hehehe

I don't think so, I'm running Linux so I haven't tried odin, I guess I could dust off the windows partition and try it out. But when I tried flashing with heimdall it says:
Code:
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
Claiming interface...
Attempt failed. Detaching driver...
Claiming interface again...
Setting up interface...
Checking if protocol is initialised...
Protocol is not initialised.
Initialising protocol...
Handshaking with Loke...
ERROR: Failed to open file ""
Re-attaching kernel driver...
Then it says flash successful (obviously not), and nothing happens.

Is jtag same as a jig? And no it was refurbished when he got it and that was over 6 months ago, I don't know if it's still covered under any warranty. Otherwise I would have thought the same thing
Stick with Linux vs. Windows. ODIN is a pain in the rear for the most part. I assumed you were on Windows. My bad!
What about going to grab the Android SDK, extract it, find the tools directiory under the extracted archive, and execute 'android'. that should load the AVD manager software. When that executes, only select the Platform-Tools to download. When you have it, go into the platform-tools directory (at the same level as tools), and you'll have the Android Debug Bridge (adb).
Execute: ./adb reboot download
If that comes back without error, the phone should be in download mode (even if you can't tell). If that happens, go try to re-run Heimdall for the install.

Tried that too. It said there was no device found. :/ Tried getting it to connect but it wouldn't work.
It's a cold day in hell though because Windows actually worked. I went into it and after like half an hour of updates ... I was able to run odin and even though the screen stayed white it actually recognized it when I did the vol +/- hold! So you had the right idea the first time lol. Don't get why it wouldn't work with heimdall though.. Thanks!!
Weird! Glad you got it working though. Please update the title of the thread with [SOLVED] at the beginning.

You should be ok to flash cognition but without getting three button combo working flashing can get risky

we are the same... mine is 1008!
so is it ok to flash cognition 2.3b8?
but it is recommended to flash back to JF6
Please try this
pull bat, sim, and ext sd
Put bat back in, plug in usb while holding volume up and down
An orange android with a shovel should come on screen
Let me know if you could do this
You can disconnect usb, pull bat, turn phone back on to boot normal

still no luck... been trying every button combo on different threads but still no go.
i can make my cappy into download mode by terminal app using command

You can flash cognition but I would try to figure this out first. You don't jump out a plane without a parachute.

it says USB device not recognize...
Have you downloaded odin, have you tried different usb ports

Yes i tried One Click Odin and the 3 Button Fix odin3 v1.3
and still cant detect it when phone is on download mode.
Odin can detect it when cappy is on and usb is plug.
i tried different USB ports but still no luck.
Btw, thanks in advance for giving some time on my problem...
Not a problem. I think there its a way to run odin as an administrator, but sure if this would make a difference. I believe you have to right click on the program then select administrator. I know this had helped some
As I said you should be ok to flash cognition, but if something goes wrong odin is the safety net. Without it, a bad flash can screw you up, not to say you will have a bad flash

Instead of plugging the USB to the computer first, I got the device in download mode, plugged in the USB cable to the device first, then plugged it into the USB port on the computer...picked it right up.
Note: It is an older model laptop...the USB ports on the back are USB 1.0. I have a USB 2.0 card installed on the side, worked through that.
Now I have to go find out why Odin3 One-Click is hanging up. There is a post for that

So, I bricked my Infuse last night at work when I tried installing MIUI from ROM Manager. I've been trying to unbrick using gtg's Ultimate Unbrick method, but no luck. I believe it's something to do with the Samsung Drivers since my phone is not recognized in Odin. Tried to redownload the Drivers from Samsung's website, but still doesn't work.
Any ideas?
BTW, running Windows 7 32bit
why would you install a rom that's for a different phone?
can you boot into recovery mode? did you try the "jig"?
Didn't think there would be a listed ROM in the manager if it wasn't for the phone...
Won't boot into recovery at all, Samsung pops up, then it goes blank, and Samsung pops up again. It loops like that until I pull the battery.
Was hoping to avoid having to buy something then waiting for it to arrive, as I need the phone working asap.
the reason other roms pop up in rom manager is because you are using the galaxy recovery. unless it says "for infuse" (there is only one, gtg's rom) it wont work. bummer dude. im all out of ideas, never had this happen. hopefully someone who's been through this can chime in and provide some info that will help you.
on a side note, why cant you take it to an att branch and have them exchange it for you?

I hope u have USB debugging turned on. If yes, u cud try this:
1. Download and install android SDK (search google for this if don't know how to).
2. Open a command prompt
3. Type in "adb reboot recovery" without quotes, and don't hit enter
4. Connect phone to PC
5. Turn the phone on
6. Wait for "samsung" to appear, and hit enter in command prompt
7. If it says "device not found", use the up arrow to get the command from history, and hit enter again. At some point, it should issue the command to the device.
8. If u can get to recovery, well, u have a way to now try to flash any other ROM.
Don't give up. Samsung has strong phones that could be got out of soft bricks most of the time.
Delete/reinstall the drivers.
Infuse 4G
Just tried Diablo's method, and it tells me command not recognized...
Download Kies on your pc to have it recognize ur phone. Run odin. Put ur phone in download mode (pull out battery, put it back in, hold both volume buttons down, plug in ur usb) and use gtg's unbrick.

UPDATE!!
Redownloaded Kies and installed the drivers (for the 500th or so time) and now Odin is recognizing a device. It's showing [COM3] instead of COM## but I'm letting Odin do its thing. Seems to be working... Crossing my fingers!

You need to buy a jig, that will solve the problem.
The jig is less than $10 bucks shipped if you buy it on ebay.
Here is the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Samsung-Galaxy-...0563626533?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item20ba3eba25
Easy to use.. all U do is pull the battery, plug the jig into usb port on the fone replace battery and you will see the big triangle saying "Download" then unplug the jig and load odin.
Setup the pda/phone/pit/csc files in odin3. Then plug in the usb cable from computer to the phone making sure that where odin says "com" that it is highlighted yellow. Then click start in Odin and wait til it says "reboot" after that you will have a working phone with stock froyo 2.2 . Don't change any default setting in odin.

I got it unbricked now, problem was the drivers wouldn't correctly install on Win7.
But, now I have a new problem. Just put 3e recovery on and flashed CWM, only to get bricked again (no problems unbricking this time, taking longer to type this than it took to unbrick...). Also, sometimes apps refuse to download from the Market. I tap "INSTALL" and the notification pops up saying downloading, but then it disappears and nothing happens, its like I hit cancel. I'm going to call it for today and get some sleep. At least the phone is usable now! :-D

That means u do not have android toolkit installed on ur system. You should install it first for the adb commands to work.
I would recommend downloading and learning the basics of adb. This could be a life saver in many no-so-happy situations.

Had this same problem and it turned out to be a hardware problem. There was no gix for it. Also youll notice that gtgs recovery includes a preroot. Hey everyone!
So I flashed a ji6 tar through SGS kernel flasher to get 2e recovery. I think it managed to do so successfully because now I have CWM when I boot into recovery. HOWEVER, when recovery pops up it goes to the CWM screen and FREEZES! I cannot select any options including reboot system. I also now cannot startup my phone normally! What can I do? I have ODIN but it won't detect my phone when it's connected (tried this about 20 times). I'm running a mac so I guess there aren't very many options. The only way out of anything int his mess is to pull the battery. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! My phoen is now useless for all purposes. I tried factory reset, etc. On normal bootup my phone is stuck on the startup screen and never progresses past. Help please!

I've been using (or trying to) Odin in Download mode but it will not detect my device. Recovery in CWM freezes, 2e recovery leading to the CWM screen is fine but when I hit'reboot now' or startup regularly using the power button, it's stuck on the boot up logo page. But I'm investigating Heimdall hopefully that helps or I am totally at my wit's end! Been working on this for a couple hours using everything I can think of! (And Google and XDA forums of course!)

Any chance you have access to a Windows based system? I've never used Heimdall, so I can't help you there.
Are you 100% sure you're in Download mode? Yellow shovel guy. Were you using Odin with VMware Fusion or something similar? Try different USB ports if it's a G5 or something, doesn't apply if a Macbook.

unfortunately i know nothing about heimdall, even though im the one that suggested it. studa! help a man out! i gave you your 900
here is a link to a 1 click heimdall package, which also has a prerooted version i suggest you get that as this a transitory os and rooting is part of the process of getting 2e recovery WITHOUT flashiing a stock kernel that will make your phone unbootable.
if you have connection issues refer to THIS THREAD
once that is completed, refer to THIS THREAD to MANUALLY replace 2recovery.
then to make sure it wasn't a wonky cwm file you had that made it freeze(actually now that i think about it you could use adb to push this to the root of /mnt/sdcard FIRST to see if its the cwm file. adb should work in recovery) grab the attached update.zip
Had a similar situation and had to order the USB jig to get out of it. It is pretty easy to make or if you want an easy (and clean) option, order one. Once you have that, remove the battery, SIM and SD. Reinsert the battery and then insert the USB jig. It will go right into download mode and then from there use Odin to flash it back to stock.
I was wondering if this is happened to anyone else. When i put my phone into ap fastboot mode, windows does not detect new hardware to install drivers for fastboot. I read that once in ap fastboot, "Transfer Mode: USB Connected" should appear once conected to pc, mine does not. Any help would be appreciated, trying to get on that ICS train.

From the back.
So the only way that rsd can detect the phone in fastboot, is if i restart my computer with the phone plugged in, and in fastboot mode. This is very weird to me because i have fxz in the past.
In device manager fastboot is recognized as MOT Single ADB Interface.
Any Ideas?

Ah, moto is touchy with driver installation and device recognition. I would unplug your phone, uninstall moto device manager, then reboot.
After reboot, reinstall moto device manager, and reboot again.
After the reboot, plug your phone in, it should be clean drivers and newly recognized devices.
After everything is recognized and installed, open adb and check to see if your device is recognized for good measure. If all checks out, try flashing the FXZ again. On a side note, in your program files((x86) if you run 64bit win) you see an RSDlite folder, inside is SDL.exe (that's RSDlite). Right click and run it as an administrator. Hopefully this helps.
Sorry if some of this seems noobish, I'm just going by what works for me and sharing.

Well i was running super CM7, which was beastly at saving battery, and last night i get the hankering to flash entropy's CM9 ICS.
So as per the instructions, i had the blue CWM, so i just flashed the rom and cleaned up. It first booted up fine, with a little rainbow distortion at the start. I then rebooted into CWM to see if it was all good, and its rainbow distorted across the entire screen. I then hit the power button to reboot and it rebooted into CWM with the distortion (tried about 20 times). So i search on XDA and find a thread where something similar happened but he was able to fix his with hemidall. At this point I have tried Odin (dosnt recognize my device), Hemidall (recognized my device but errored out until i installed their drivers, after the reboot no longer sees my device).
So now i am able to get into download mode but neither odin or hemidall recognize my phone. So i guess the question becomes, Am i totally boned on this one? Do i have to bite the bullet and get a new phone? :crying: Thanks, just for taking the time to look over my insignificant problem, and a Thank You Very Much in advance for any advice/replies.
Try going into devices on your PC, delete the Samsung USB composite if it is there. Go get Heimdall Suite and reinstall drivers. Should reboot PC. Go to download mode (vol +/-, battery in, then plug USB in or vol +/-, USB in, then battery and no power button on either). See if your phone is recognized. If yes, find instructions for flashing GB bootloaders. Be careful, flash incorrectly and you might end up with a brick.
