Hello people.
I have a friend's HTC Inspire 4G, he wanted me to install Shadowgun, which I did. I downloaded the 1.1.0 APK version. When I executed it, it began to download the required data and when it finish I began to play. Everything worked perfect, but when I reset the phone, the game ask me for download the data again... and when I check the
Code:
Android/data/
folder on SD-Card, I can see the Shadowgun data in a
Code:
com.madfinger.shadowgun
I can't remember the exact name. The thing is that folder have 1GB of data... meaning the Shadowgun data is really there. So I have no idea why the game ask me for download again.
Is this a common issue? How do I fix it?
Best regards.
maybe go to the market and redownload a fresh copy, possibly corrupted download?

Dude I said I play the game without problems, however when I reset the phone I ask me to download the data again. I guess if I play it, then it's not corrupted data.

it can still have a file corruption, wasnt trying to be mean to you. just saying its probably the easiest thing to try first before delving deeper into it. i did search around and went through market comments looking for a similar problem and couldnt find any. so that brought me to the conclusion that theres possibly something wrong with the apk. one flipped bit in a file can show at install or it could keep u from viewing the ending of a game.
at first i thought maybe you got the THD version of it but seeing as that one was 1.0.1 and you mentioned you had 1.1.0 that wasnt the case. Got to start somewhere with troubleshooting
Question...where did you download shadowgun from? If you did from the market then try emailing the devs. The contact info will be on the market page for shadowgun.
If you downloaded it from another place, and did it for free, please stop asking for help. That is a paid app. You should not be able to receive help here on xda for paid apps that were pirated.
I got your 10 char right here

OK I know it's not a corrupted APK because in my Galaxy S II (i9100) I have the same APK with the same data, and it goes like heaven, so I don't know.
Thanks again.

I'll try askin the devs, I bought that app, ok?
<Mod Edit> Deleted contents. Condoning Warez, violation of XDA Rules.
If you are having the same issue then why do you need the files? Just download them and back them up yourself.
<Mod Edit. Deleted.>
Take Notice on Warez
I believe this same (edited) post asking for data files, was deleted from the General forum earlier.
And the same outcome. It is strictly against XDA rules, to ask for or condone the practice of sharing PAID Apps. Violations result in infraction points, and ultimately a ban from XDA.
Whether you paid for the app, is not a concern. In this case, your first avenue is the Dev of the program. NOT asking members to upload data files. You KNOW the rules, paid app or not.
I should hope I won't need to post again on this topic.
yeah .. i have same problem..

hi, its my first time here in the forum and i have read your problem with shadowgun.. i have also htc inspire phone installed with shadow gun.. i got this in android.mob.org at first, i downloaded this game in the torrent but i came up with the same problem with you. so here what you are going to do
1. download shadowgun to the mentioned site(put the cache file of the game into any folder of ur device but do not put it directly to sdcard/android/data/ bcoz at first launch it will be deleted)
2. then install apk
3. set your phone to airplane mode
4. then run the game
5. then press begin download (it will show some unknown javascript and let it
6. minimize the game.. do not close
7. copy the the files inside the com.madfingergames.shadowgun folder into the sdcard/android/data there is already a folder there with the same name with that folder.
8. open the minimized game shadowgun and it will now run smoothly
i hope it helped...

So between flashes I started backing up my apps to the sd by using the AppControl app. Worked like a charm–no problems. So after flashing a new ROM, and installing the apps I had backed up, package installer had issue with a few, and said it couldnt install, even though they were apps I had on my previous system, and were fully paid for. So now im thinking, no problem, ill just go to the market and re-DL them...and this is where it gets strange, but the actual listing for the apps that I had problems with no longer show up in the market for me. I mean, they really dont show up. I have searched by name, scanned QR codes and went to the dev's other apps and went to the visit more apps link. Even stranger is that one of the apps that didnt install and is now gone (nesoid) is made by the same guy that made an app that did (Snesoid). When i go to view just his apps, Snesoid shows as installed, but I just get the listing for nesoid lite, no nesoid at all.
Any ideas?
The only thing i can think of is if you flashed an ADP1 which you cant see paid apps with.
On a side note i dont think this belongs in development more like QA
I'm having a similar but probably unrelated issue. I went to use I tweet! today only to notice its no longer installed on my phone. Neither is Hello IM, which I paid for. They show up as installed in the market, but when I open the market listing, both the open and uninstall buttons are greyed out.
I tried repairing the ext partition using the cyanogen recovery, no effect. Movies by flixster is also missing, and I'm sure there's probably more that I haven't noticed. These apps are not in the manage apps settings, so I can't uninstall them. I do have nesoid still, as well as many other paid apps.
I think my sdcard is just dying, but wonder if anyone else has experienced this as of late?

Anyone with the knowledge to help with this is going to be a dev type. Thats why I posted here.
If it was a problem with just the rom it should have been solved by flashing to a different version which i did. I have tried this on 2 versions of eclair and 1 donut.

In case there's somebody around here wondering, I'm starting a thread to show you how to download FREE apps if you don't have market access. Any FREE app you can find online in .apk form is yours. Please note you DO NOT need ROOT ACCESS to follow these steps, but I recommend it anyways, so use that nifty search bar and try it out.
Note: This is a method only for installing FREE APPS that are already free. Some people complain of not having the market app, others have market crash issues. This method is only to be used as an alternate to the Market if you do not have market access.
What you'll need:
Method of data transfer between phone and computer (USB Cord, MicroSD adapter, etc)
ASTRO File Manager- Found in the Android Market for free.
Level of Difficulty: 2/10
Procedure:
Step 1: Download ASTRO File Manager
This is self-explanatory. Go into your market and search for: ASTRO
Look for the result that reads: ASTRO File Manager
Download the app, it's free.
Step 2: Connect phone/SD to computer
Either plug in your phone and select mount, or plug your MicroSD into an adapter. Once your computer recognizes the SD card, move to step 3.
Step 3: Create free apps folder
Create a new file folder on your SD card in the top directory (meaning on the SD card and not in any other file folder). Name it Free Apps or similar.
Step 4: Download your .apk files
Search the internet for your desired applications. XDA forums and iPmart are great places to start. Once you find your application, download it and drag it to your Free Apps folder on your SD card.
Step 5: Unmount phone
This doesn't need explaining.
Step 6: Run ASTRO
Once your phone is unmounted and ready, run ASTRO File Manager. Once the application loads, it will list all the folders on your SD card. Navigate to your Free Apps folder, and select it. Once open, find your application you wish to install. It may list it twice, one with the logo and the other with a little settings logo, click the one that has the actual application logo.
Step 7: Installation
A menu will popup with two choices: Explore or App Manager. Select App Manager. It will come up with a new window, and beneath the application logo will be a button that says install. It will bring up the familiar installing are you sure screen, click yes and install it. Once it finishes, click done. Now you can install more or run your application.
That's it, enjoy your apps.
Hmm... I don't see any piracy. There are a lot of "Free" apps online. Android is Open Source. Now if he was talking about downloading paid apps for free... then we have a problem.

He's offering a solution on how to install freely available .apk's. How you get them and If YOU choose to go download them, that's your problem.
Now let's play nice...
VinceOB, MyDroidHax, and Juggsy, you all really need to calm down. I may not have worded it correctly, but I fixed it. The reason I posted this was because a ROM I installed for whatever reason didn't have the market app, so I had no market access. There are a wide array of free apps on both sites, yes there are a few paid on iPmart, but iPmart is still one of the best overall sources for free apps as well. Seriously, i didn't plan on awaking to controversy.

I didn't see him drop the f bomb on u. He might have meant it that way but that would be putting words in his mouth.
Sometimes I wonder what the qualifications are to become a mod are. So far I believe the first three qualifications are ego, power hungry, and favoritizm.
Care to elaborate on the extensive and rigorous interviews and testing that took place to acquired ur higher status.
BTW win Mobil is only around cause its backed by Microsoft. Doesn't mean it's a great OS. Just that the backers have deep pockets and wont let it die.
ok, I don't like or condone the way this thread has gone. Instead of discussing the topic of free apps, its all about calling people names and slagging each other off.
@cbarlan - The f word was never mentioned by either MyDroidHax or
NRGZ28. One used "-Blam-" the other "***". It was actually you which first referred to the f-word.
But none of this matters. What matters is your respect for fellow xda users as per rule #2 below.....which by they way does mention no cursing which MyDroidHax blatantly flaunted.
2. Be polite and respect your fellow xda-dev user.
There is no need for cursing, flaming, racism or personal attacks. There are a lot of different nationalities on this forum all with different cultures, this means that no matter what you're like, you'll have to adjust to people that are most definitely not like you. For this reason we'd like to ask you to refrain from discussions about religion or politics, we do not wish to limit your right to free speech, but we have noticed these topics tend to get heated and might be best discussed in a different environment. Please remind nrgz28 who is a moderator of the rule u posted. I believe he was very rude in emplementing his harsh warnings instead of being polite and respectful. U can be stern and respectful at same time. And for future reference when someone uses stars inplace of a word it is usually vulgar. Also no need to threaten with this is ur first and last warning. Remember rule u referenced and be polite as well. I'd be willing to write up a wiki on how to use ur manners and be respectful as I've had to reach my six year old. Kinda the same thing
Thank you to the mods for the cleanup work. MyDroidHax initially used F***ING, and then edited it. I read the post almost immediately.
Anyways, I updated the post, and I wrote it at 1AM here today, so I was tired. Sorry for misconceptions guys. Like I said, I had market issues, so I found this way to help me and felt I'd share.
Yes you can get paid apps, but it doesn't mean you should or are going to. This is just a workaround to a normal situation, use it how you will.
Also, you guys really shouldn't rip on the mods. The rules clearly stated that you can't do what MyDroidHax did, and so he was told he can't. So? That's how it works, he won't do it again if he doesn't want to get banned.
On a related note, this can also be used to install apps that are not in the market but are available online, such as betas hosted online, custom apps, etc. If you're rooted, you should have "install non-market apps" checked, but if it's not it will take you to the screen where you check it during this process.
I am 98% sure this doesn't require root access. The file manager I know doesn't, and on the Hero (since we have not been neutered like ATT phones) we can install apps from outside sources. So that option is freely available.
What here requries root access?
Not giving you heck, just trying to make the post more informational.

Another great program in root explorer. You can get it from ww w. 4shared .co m
Go there type in rootexplorer .apk and it will have multiple downloads. Just pick one and run it.
You can get all the paid apps for free like that. Just type in .apk after the app you want is typed in for example: rootexplorer .apk or irunner .apk or androidbanking .apk..... you get the picture?

+ 1, a one time payment of $4 for something useful is nothing.

why patronize piracy?
I live in Asia, where pirated software/apps are more prevalent than legit ones. That is because software like Microsoft Windows is economically out of reach for the man on the street.
But $3.99? Come on! We shouldn't expect devs to continue churning out useful code without getting paid for it. If the developers of Titanium Backup or Root Toolbox had decided early on that it wasn't worth it to develop apps for Android or WinMo, we'd all still be in the Dark Ages of the cellphone era. Making custom ROMs is not the same. For one, many of them were based on stock firmware--which were made by highly-paid software engineers at phone makers in the first place.
What the Android Market offers for free, I download for free. When it has a price and I need it, I pay for it. Simple as that.
1) the fix listed above worked perfectly for me. (HD2, gingerbread, CM7)
2) paying for an app is the right thing to do. free ones are preferred, of course. you know it, i know it, they know it. support open source, support the community. pay it forward.

Yep, this is actually a horrible fix. For me, it did nothing except stop me from accessing any of my media. So if you don't care about listening to music, viewing any photos, having ringtones, viewing video you have taken etc, this MIGHT work for you. I had to dig out the mediaprovider.apk from the .zip of my ROM and replace it.
I fixed mine by restoring my last Titanium Backup ("restore all apps with data"). Whatever was corrupted was restored back to working order. I understand that not everyone has Titanium Backup, but it has save my a$$ a couple of times now when an app or system file has started acting weird. Root your phone and get TB, it's so worth it.
EDIT: OK, so the problem came back after I replaced mediaprovider.apk, so apologies for that. I booted into recovery and did a factory/data reset, then restored my Titanium Backup, and all seems to be good now. Again, I understand this may not help everyone, but it worked for me, and it avoids deleting apk files without fully understanding what effect it will have.

I had the same problem with my Asus transformer. In addition the default Music player did not work anymore as it used to (played the wrong numbers).
The above solution did not work for me (I could get to the files mentioned without rooting).
Sofar I got the problem solved as followed.
1. I found an new version 4 of the Music player (com.google.android.misic.4.0.9.apk) and installed this version
2. This by itself did not solve anything, but now I could reinstall the factory original version and now everything is OK.
No forced closing anymore and the default player works as before
I hope it stays this way.

I've just updated to latest Oxygen on my Huawei U8800, and was having that same issue.
After reading this post, I've updated with TB the application "[Playlists] Media Storage 2.3.7 (10)" and it solved it.
It seems that my custom playlists of the music app were causing it...
I am trying to play Spirit HD with the APK that i downloaded, but there seems to be a liscence verification process and i was wondering if there was anyway to bypass it. This game seems awesome and i wanted to try it help would be appreciated

Warez and cracking methods are not discussed or tolerated on this forum. If you'd like to play the game, support the developer and buy it

When I saw that there was a reply to this, I was worried that someone actually had an answer for him other than "pay for it." Thank you from all developers.
And go buy it. It's $1.28, you can find that outside on the ground.

What the above posters said, it would also consum more time to do it than 1-2Dollar are worth.
Support the devs, if no one pays for apps, no dev will bother to make good ones.
Can you imagine your android without new cool apps in the market?
very cheaper game, just buy it. you will pass it
Obtaining Spirit HD
since my last wipe/reload into xoom moray, I've lost this app, and cannot redownload it from the store. on web based app store, my device is now greyed out in the list and says, unsupported device'. This is despite having the green 'purchased' button there. what can I do? I'm a little dubious of downloading apk's from untrusted locations... know this is only a game, but it's one I liked!!

Best bet is always to email the developer.
In 99% he can and will make it right for you.
Thanks for the reply Dark3n! I had a nandroid backup before flashing, so reading the forums I understood I could pull the APK out of the backup. That said I spent several unsuccessful hours trying to get a working unyaffs.exe to work on my windows box, including trying to compile the tool for myself, with cygwin!!
In the end, I got "YaffsExplorer", which allowed me to look in the img files, all from the device. Copied out and ran the apk, which then installed AOK. Woo!
Is there still any support for this?
I'm inching closer and closer to getting this thing working, but I need some help.
Originally, I got an error saying the APK file was incompatible, but people said ignore that and just go on. Obviously that didn't work, when I tried to open the game a popup saying "Updating..." came up, then closed, and went back to my homescreen, no errors or anything, it just closed.
I did this on both V1 and V2 Beta, same problem.
Then I found the 1.0.3 APK file of Crash Bandicoot. Used V1 to convert, SWEET I thought it had worked. But then after the initial PSX Pocket loading screen, I got an error saying the data was corrupted and would need to be redownloaded.
I read up more on it, one person said this was likely caused by the person copying the data folder files BEFORE installing the APK. So I installed the APK, it forced closed obviously because theres no data. Then I copied over the data folder, same problem.
Then I tried using V2 Beta, installing the APK, then transfering the data folder, now it wont even even go into the emulator, it does the whole "updating..." popup then just closes.
After that I used V2 Beta, copied the data over, and then installed the APK. I get the same god damn "updating..."
Can ANYONE help me or should I just forget this program.
As I said I'm using a Crash Bandicoot 1.0.3 USA I got online. I have to use the 94900 zpak off my phone as I cant find the 00344 zpak online ANYWHERE.
Is that my problem though? Do I need to find the matching ZPAK file to the APK?
Can anyone share these files somehow? The closest I got was using V1 with the 1.0.3 apk, it just says the data corrupt, if I can get past that I'm good. But there NO information about it online.
Forgot to mention, I'm using an R800A, rooted, with a locked bootloader. Think it would make a difference if I unlocked the bootloader, and loaded R800i onto it?
/bump
No one has any insight into this?

Is there maximum amount of bumps allowed?

If you are refering to yinfanlu (or however it was spelled, sorry if I butchered it) then he no longer supports it as of I think fir st of second week of Jan this year. Dont remember what the reasons were but I believe he did leave all the sources available but I dont think anyone ha picked up where he left off.
His phone was stolen, that's why he stopped developing and supporting the app.
