Why not search the forum instead of starting a thread for this?

Wait a minute. Google's giving out free ice cream sandwiches if you buy this phone?

Lol, I didn't get any? I thought I read that Sammy did just release the ICS kernel source on their open source site, though I could be wrong. Someone on the Valhalla Black thread said that so you never know.

it's not Friday! anyway, there have already been two other leaks for Gingerbread besides this (though this one went out through KIES and is likely official). this isn't any use for us until sources drop.
then you can at least reorient the kernel and whatnot.
edit: should also add, no development related to this, just a gingerbread announcement therefore general.
So i can flash this through kies? on my captivate?

no, it's for the i9000, download an ODIN-compatible version, normal caveats apply.

it shouldn't be which is why I said it belongs in general about 3 posts up.
AndroidCentral is reporting it. (EXCITED)
I'm one of those happy Paragon ROM Cappy users that still loves the phone and is patiently awaiting the SGS2. Gingerbread on here would be nirvana.

I don't believe so but I bet the cooks here will be all over this and Gingerbread ROMs will begin to sprout roots very soon.
well i think this could be a great thing, but ill stick with firefly until an official update comes
one question, why do people even care about official updates? i mean,we update to the new version, then root and start all back over again? lol sigh, but hey i guess thats how xda keeps on a goin...,,,

Well for one I think this means they have to release source in the coming weeks.
They don't have any obligation to do that for a leak...

It is because official updates usually means a stable bugfree version of gingerbread for our devices so that it can be used as a base for custom roms or if it is good enough, use as it is rooted/deodexed.

hey Kaik, when (if) the source becomes available, will this help in any way the CM7 development for the SGS?

Unless you think that part in bold is sarcasm... that kind of sounds like it means it'll help CM7 development.
I guess I was wondering about the possible benefits this would bring. But thanks for being a douche.

the major thing this will be able to help with is stuff like GPIO's and whatnot
Well usually the source for the I9000 rom releases always comes out within a reasonable time. So heres hopin we dont have to wait that long before we can grab it and start workin on some reoriented kernels.
Has anybody or will anybody flash this on to their Captivate?
If you have what was it like? And how did it go?
for me Im just sticking with CM7 but still intrigued

@sanjshetty-> ICS means Ice cream sandwitch
and Gingerbead is already out! The XXKPH version itself is the gingerbread!

See, first of all the matter.
Samsung can NEVER, I repeat, NEVER stop the updates for i9003. If they do so, they should also stop the updates for F!t, Ace, Gio, Galaxy s 4g, Galaxy PLUS and all such things. If you know, Fit, gio,ace and s4G dont even have an GB Arabic Firmware! So, I would never think they would stop putting in the updates!

NO!
Your phone will NOT get the Ice cream Sandwich!!!
Why?
Because you are too lazzy and without respect for the work of others!
Use SEARCH function!
Harsh, I don't think he/she was asking the question itself, but merely copied and pasted the text from the link shared.
the OP isnt actually asking the question, more just showing the website they linked to.
Before angrily replying to this thread read what the op posted (link).. No need for the attitude..

Are you sure?
Why it was necessary a new topic on this subject only for a link to a related subject?
With what is different this topic to the other 10-12 already opened for ICS?
What stopped the OP to post this link in one of the the other 10-12 threads started for ICS?

[Q] no 4.0 for Captivate

I read in article that ice cream sandwich will not be available for the Captivate.
Is there anyone working on something that will be very similar?
Teamhacksungs ics port. It is going to be cyanogen mod 9. There is a thread for it in this forum. Also, this thread should be in the Q&A section, not development.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I read that too but then I also saw that they were "revisiting" this and it is possible the galaxy s and galaxy tab may get the upgrade. I however doubt the captivate will get an official release since we still dont have official GB, blame AT&T
Just read this though

No they're not Thread closed and moved - we know the official word is no ICS, there are plenty of developers here who will make it happen for us.
