[Confirmed solution/work around] dialer battery drain issue on gingerbread 2.3.3. - Android General

Hi I don't know if this is the right place to put this info.
I see lots of people are having the dialer battery drain issue in pretty much every version of android 2.3.3. And I haven't seen a working solution anywhere other than upgrade to a newer version of android.
Any way, I'm using a HTC legend a gingerbread version 2.3.3, and I have always had the dreaded dialer battery drain issue.
I have found a work around that helps stop the drain, at least on the HTC legend 2.3.3 version I'm using.
In my case it is simply having the line
gsm.proximity.enable=false
In the build.prop
It would seam to stop the proximity sensor from working with the dialer part of phone.
The only side effect I have seen so far is that the screen won't turn off when u hold phone upto your ear, you can of course turn screen off with power button, at least from a legend point of view.
I hope this information will help others with android 2.3.3 on other phones that also have dialer battery drain.

Hi, here's a bit of an update for those that are interested, even though the proximity sensor has been disabled for phone calls after adding the line to build.prop, here is a work around to allow the proxy to turn off screen again.
Down load "proximity screen off" from the market, in the settings, select enable during calls only.
Now on my phone the other settings seam to be a bit screwy so you'll have to play with them to suite your device for the way you want it to work.
I am still testing to see how battery life is, but so far its looking good.
If you feel like it, I would appreciate some feedback regarding these mods.
Thanks

another point of attack
So.. It seems CyanogenMod team has identified these proximity sensor issues and actually fixed most all of them (on the devices they support). The answer is complicated and nestled into the code. But basically one could say there has been an omission of suspend and wake calls that now make MANY HTC devices not function properly. So, besides this there are SoD issues with some devices after a call.. Same type fix used to resolve and that one usually is resolved with an OTA fairly quickly... But ummm, why can't HTC users ban together and make HTC perfect their sources? They are after all the manufacturer and Sense roms are just copies of their source (modified here and there perhaps)... so the problems have been identified, solutions have been committed by an OPEN SOURCE team... good lord HTC, this has been going on since the Desire.. and just browsing I found Legend, Wildfire S and several others effected..
Great work-a-rounds btw... I just really think the consumers should petition on these issues as they are all related and fixable. Most just hear battery life sucks on the Android and assume their phone going dead after 5 hrs is normal... Well it's not. Just my 2c.

Well my friend , I was a noob about 7 or 8 months ago too, I did lots of reading and learning and used Google to find my answers.
But here's some quick help to get you started....
Before you do anything if you haven't already do a nandroid backup.
You are using ogos gingerbread so you must be rooted yeah, OK so next we need to find out how u rooted, if you went down the hboot 1.02 and unlocked boot loader method, that is great makes my job much easier.
Build.prop is a file located in the
/system/ folder
It is basically a text file that contains a list of settings/commands/startup options.
In my ogos rom the command in question has a # in front of it which disables that line.
You need to edit that file and remove the #. To do this I used es file explorer with root turned on in settings, then just went to /system and opened it with es file explorer.
Or you could get build.prop editor from market and add the line that way, however you need to leave out the = and put the stuff in front in the top field and the 1 In the other.
Simple as that....
If you are say hboot 1.01 and s-on then that's a lot harder for me :-(
You'll only be able to do it via fastboot method, reboot phone into fast boot menu volume down then power. Connect to your PC, it is properly set up isn't it yeah? use android commander to copy that file to your PC, edit file using notepad then copy it back.
If you done it right, good if not, ummm you might need to search for answers for to what you need.
You could always send your phone to me and pay me I only charge $100 per hour lolol

androids port capacitive touch

ever since the android port came out and i tried it ive loved how the hardkeys light up when you touch them and then immediatly go away. is there anyway to get that on wm?
yeah same here. thats so f#$*n awesome
love to have it on wm
soulds like it would require a touch detector hardware system along with the full preasure detector there already is

it already works with our device. Its just part of the android port that can be found here http://www.htc-android.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=237
im suprised no ones tried to do this yet?
i have to say i honestly loved that too. though i would miss the touch to light up all keys so i could see them in the dark. then again, thinking as im typing, i would trade for the android style. i dont think i can make up my mind!
Mine does that already.
are you running android or something? if you got it to work with windows share with the class.

How did you get this working?
Please share what you know
android still doesnt let us make calls texts or data on our raphael right?
yep, no sound, data, text, phone, proper keyboard support, wifi, bluetooth. but atleast the capacitive navipad works.
haha that navipad is most important
i tried using android last night followed the instructions . how long did bootup take for you guys? it sat on the text page with the blue box for like 40 minutes and never went farther
Wow, didn't know we could boot Android on our phones.
I didn't try that yet, because from tomorrow I will be traveling for a week, and I will need my phone.
I downloaded it though, and on the installation instructions it says to launch haret.exe, I didn't get that, is this some kind of virtual machine, or will it shut down WM and launch Android?

It shuts down WM and launches Android. It isn't a permenant flash because not everything works on it. Android itself loads fine, but there are still some key linux drivers that are required for normal day to day use. The more important thing is the microphone/speaker. The phone works and things like SMS.
player you have obviously had it working
how long does it take to boot for you?
i have the tmp folder on my card with the boot folder in that. in there i click haret18.exe then the box comes up saying it will run default.txt then linux starts and i just get all the small writing on screen but it never goes farther
EDIT- i was told it must be the wrong version. i have the fuze so which raph is that? i tried two diff versions already
you need to either rename the text files in the boot folder or choose the one you want.
If you have the fuze use the raph100 I think it is...don't have my phone on me, but it isn't the 800 one.
I just renamed the default.txt to something else and then the default _raph100 or whatever to default.txt and it worked fine.
Before I realized this I had the same issue you did.
thanks i got it running
so is there really anything we can do at this point? or just play around with the home screen
soooo anyway back to the question i asked... lol
has anyone or is there a way to make it work to when you touch the pad only the area you touch only lights up like it does in the android port?
Wow after loading up the latest port of android, I finally understand what the OP means, this is really cool! I would love to have this. Not only does it look cool, but it will actually reduce error due to pressing the wrong part of the button.

No, as of right now nothing is really working besides Andriod running. No data or voice services work yet...
you can mess with home AND navipad. cant forget what this thread is all about. i think the fact that you can run android and do it without wiping wm is pretty amazing. theres alot of work that needs to be done if you are planning on doing something useful with android. the phone was meant for wm and is set more up with drivers, configuration, and development for such. hopefully in the future it will do both well and your epeen length will grow as you show off to everyone what your phone can do.

Htc Touch Pro (Raphael 500) Running Android , How to overclock?

Alright so Yesterday I installed the android os on my touch pro (raph 500)
i orginally have windows mobile 6.5 which is preety fast
but android is really slow!
i turned off all the settings which i would think it used alot of memory but still no help, so i started seeing videos on overclcking?
can someone explain to me on how to do this,
with links to the download
i really need to speed this up ,it would be amazing if it worked.
also if you give me a response that helps me , ill donate 10.00+ to you .
I do not require funds as I enjoy helping out!
From THIS thread and THIS post:
Overclocking
acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=XXXXXX ( suggested 600000-640000 )
but it is very unstable if you try to get higher than 650000-700000

Basically, you add that to the startup.txt file somewhere between the parentheses with an added space between the next command. Keeping in mind, with added OC, you may and may not notice a difference in stability. I honestly never use OC and I am using FroYo from THIS thread. Additionally you can try out Gingerbread Alpha from THIS thread. Please leave feedback in their respective threads, thanks!
n-Joie! (Enjoy)
thanks but this is my startup text :
set ramsize 0x10000000

so which am i supposed to edit, sorry im a noob lol
& u said that was the one you used,
is it fast?
Actually, I can't use that one because I have an at&t Fuze. If you have a RAPH500, you might want to use the following:
set ramsize 0x10000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set mtype 2182
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "lcd.density=210 msmvkeyb_toggle=off physkeyboard=raph board-htcraphael-navi.wake=0 gsensor_axis=2,-1,3 pm.sleep_mode=1 acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=XXXXXX"
boot

Where XXXXXX is equal to a value between 600000-640000
Additional note: make sure you type something like 600000 or any value up to 640000
lol thanks im trying to see if theres a difference in speed.
but you used froyo?
is that running fast?
It's running fine with sync and a few other apps running in the background. I would be mindful of livewallpaper and HQ video at the moment as this project is currently still under development, at best. At least that is what I have noticed as far as performance is considered. I have also run a stripped Gingerbread alpha build (the one I linked you to earlier) and it is running faster/smoother than FroYo. To be expected without all the bells and whistles...
NOTE: Speed is relative to performance at the moment. Hence why I say it's still under development...
intresting ill test that out in about 15 mins
but does yours take a long time to come out of sleep mode?
Hmmm, that might be the notorious sleep of death SOD. I usually do something that most don't like but I sort of turn off the screen time out by first making the screen time out greater than 10 or 30 minutes. After that it should make things easier as far as disabling the auto back light/screen timeout feature. Keep in mind this is only a work around, I believe there is mention of actually fixing this issue. You'll need to download a free app called batterybooster (use the link if you want to read up on it a little). Once installed, run it and look for the far right icon and tap it. Set the timeout to Never and you'll notice a decent performance enhancement in the screen off and screen on.
NOTE: You will need to manually turn it off from here-on. You can try to play around with the setting but I find it somewhat problematic. Meaning that if you enable the timeout, it might and it might not work.
alright well i tried the gingerbread and that didnt work it lagged .
i tried froyo , it was amazing then i found out wifi didnt work
so now im back to the regular android one i had before ill be trying to see if theres a difference now that i "overclocked" it .
but thanks for all the help.
ill post back if i need something!
Odd, wifi(wap not wep) works for me... Must be a random occurrence? Have you attempted to update any files and are you using OC? Probably best to stick to a stock-like startup till you get a good feel of most of the basic functions, which may or may not include wifi, gps, 3d and camera; these should be on the "to be worked on" list of things for the devs to complete.

NVM I got the wifi to work now .
Glad to hear about the wifi success story I don't know if I could walk you through that as it seems that wifi can be temperamental ( or just mental )
The only way I could get out of the SOD issue was to try for that work around (setting it to never timeout with the app mentioned) and to set a pattern unlock

well i set it to never timeout and i have a lock pattern
but since it never times out it wont lock .
also now im starting to notice froyo is rebooting for some weird reason automatically .
Calm down, that is kind of "usual behavior" . There are quire a few things going on and the OS is attempting to "handle it". Sometimes it can't and just quits instead of freezing up ( which would be the lesser of two evils ). To get it to lock, you will have to turn it off manually (power button). Unfortunately, I think if the keyboad slides out, it self unlocks (kind of a self defeating purpose, more or less). If you turn the screen off and wait like 10 seconds then turn the screen on (power key), you should see the lock. I can't say for sure but it does work for me. I don't really have much time for troubleshooting today, as I am at work currently but do look over the threads I linked you to earlier if at all possible.
okay so i turned it off using the power button and it booted to windows mobile (odd)
then i tried running haret.exe & got this message:
"The file HARET cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. IF the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring the file."
im not sure what to do.
i tryed reformatting the card and installing fresh files, which didnt work so now im left questioned?
When you say you turned it off, did you hold the button or just press it once? If you pressed it once, then, that is definitly not "usual" behavior. I recall having that issue once upon a time but for the life of me, I don't recall what I did to recover from it. However, it sounds like you are attempting to run from a shortcut that references the program(haret) that is no longer there. To resolve this, I need you to confirm that you are running from the microSD and not a shortcut. Also, you aren't formatting under windows, right? If you are formatting from windows, that would be a "no-no"
Find something like the HP tool (can be googled) that everyone else talks of or even something like the free version of partition wizard should work.
i held the button and it gave me options
1) airplane mode
2)shutoff
3)vibrate
i did try to make a shortcut but i deleted it and now when i checked i was running it from the actual application.
lastly, i did format from windows but i downloaded hp format tool
and formated my device in quick format.
reinstalled the programs and it still gave me the same error message,
please help, i really miss android =(
Try deleting data.img and letting it recreate the file. To clarify about the screen off issue, when you press the power button once (not hold), what does it do? Also, which kernel package are you using and have you attempted to download a newer kernel package yet?
Also, try THIS kernel package; I got it from THIS site. It looks like that kernel package is specific to our devices.

[10-19] [ROM] [WIP] Isaacj87's MIUI+CWM for triumph =D

we all owe a hell of a thanks to Isaacj87 for getting miui over to the triumph.
i take no credit for [email protected]#$%^&*() i am just posting this link so people who dont go to android forums can find this!
to flash this you will also need issacj87's CWM custom made for the triumph.
here you go guys and again be sure to thank isaacj87 for all his hard work!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for any damages (bricking/phone ruining) occurred while flashing or using this ROM. By using this ROM, you understand that that I am not liable for any or all consequences of using this ROM. If you don't know what you're doing, DON'T TRY IT. Use at your own risk!
SPECIAL NOTE: These builds are not being built from source (only partially). This port is technically a port of a port of a port (DHD-CN --> DHD-EN --> MI410 --> Triumph). I can only account for the changes I made personally. There are no records on what was changed up to this point from elsewhere. This is something to consider.
Also, since I don't have the source for this ROM, it's being worked on with a take-it-or-leave-it attitude. If I can manage to fix something, it'll get fix. Since it was originally in Chinese, some of the language translations will be strange. I'm using code from CM7, building said code, and cramming it into MIUI. Since MIUI and CM7 share a lot of the same code, this has been working fine so far. But remember: I can't stress how much I don't want complaints and bug reports. I'm doing this for my own amusement and I'm just sharing what I've got.
I'd like to put up the the changes I've made to this ROM, but, basically, it would be useless. I used whatever tools I could find to decompile the various aspects and apply changes, but I wasn't able to save any of the decompiled stuff in any readable form. However, the changes to kernel I made will always be available. You can view those changes on my Github: http://github.com/ikarosdev
Overall, everything has been working quite well and I hope your happy with the results.
What works:
BOLD=NEW
RIL/3G/1xRTT
Audio/Call recording
WIFI
USB Tethering
Bluetooh
Keymapping
2D/3D/EGL/GPU
LED (dual-mode)
Capacitive button lights
Screen rotate/orientation
Touchscreen with multitouch/screen rotate capable
USB mounting
CRT screen off animation
Proximity sensor
Camera (front and rear) [see next section below]
GPS
HD 720P video recording/FFC video recording
MMS [see next section below]
Torch
Google Talk with video/voice chat
Wired headse
What partially works:
Camera (FFC output during video calling and snapshots is not mirrored.)
MMS (I can send, but not receive. Always comes back complaining about something.)
What doesn't work:
Ambient light sensors
WIFI hotspot (DON'T ASK, WON'T FIX)
720p video recording (Doesn't work in MIUI camera app. I've heard reports this works with a 3rd-party app)
HDMI out/mirroring (I don't have any way of testing this. Maybe it does work.
Known issues:
These builds, as mentioned, are not being built from source. As such, measures were taken to get everything working. Don't be surprised if you get a FC or eleven. Furthermore, these are development builds (a.k.a not stable). Some of you may be able to live with it, some won't.
Being similar to CM7 (at the core), the proximity sensor goes wonky during phone calls.
Recovery:
I also have my own CWM port for the Triumph. Since I got everything working, it's been running like a champ. I've themed it a bit to make it unique, but it's still Clockwork recovery at its core. I've currently put this up (minus the custom colors and graphics) for review to be included in ROM Manager. You can watch its progress here: http://github.com/koush/ROMManagerManifest/issues/311
The keymapping in my recovery is:
- Volume up/down to navigate
- Menu to select
- Back to go backwards
Downloads:
Recovery:
NOTE: tjstyle's recovery (4.0.0.9) will not work. You have to use a recovery for the Triumph.
NOTE: You must use a recovery with EXT4 capabilities. The one below should be just fine. If you're already using a recovery with such features, you don't have to change it.

**Instructions on how to install isaacj87's CWM**
1. download the recover img listed above
2. unzip the file using winrar or any other unzipping program
3.turn your triumph all the way off
4. unplug the usb cable for your triumph
5. hold the volume down+power button on your MT
6. the screen should come up as black with small white text in the top right hand corner. the text will keep repeating but dont worry this is normal.
7. plug the usb cable into your MT and computer and let the drivers install.
8. once they are finished installing, go to computer and you should see a new device called mobile. click on it then click on the image folder.
9. there you will see the recovery.img file. take this and make a back up of it on your desktop or in a safe place where you wont lose it.
10. next drag issacj87's recovery.img to the folder and copy and replace the current recovery.img. once this is finished you can eject your MT and the only way to get it out of bootloader mode is to do a battery pull.
11. after the phone is off hold both volume keys and also the power button and it will boot into isaacj87's cwm 4.0.1.5 recovery =)
12. from there do a full wipe of the system and D cache and user data and then you can flash MIUI!!!!!
Enjoy!!!!!!!
THANK YOU AGAIN ISACCJ87!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MMS has been fixed. I've been sending and receiving all day today. Clean pics, I might add.
I've also went ahead and bumped us up to 1.10.14. It will be released soon.
I've been investigating some fixes for the data drop issue. I think I may have found something that might work. I'm going to try it first in CM7 and if it works, it should be applicable to MIUI as well.
Happy MIUI-ing guys.
P.S. I would make an "official" thread here, but it seems most Triumph users frequent Android Forums. I'll make an effort to keep an eye out here as well.

I found something that might fix this problem (i.e. a real solution). Tickerguy also worked on a solution that seems to be working. He's going to test it for a couple days to confirm, but so far it looks good.
Once he shares his fix, I'll try and "code" (smali) it into MIUI.
i cant wait for this next update.

[MOD] NFC for Verizon GS3! NFC Enabled While Screen Off / Locked

***UPDATE***
I upgraded to ParanoidAndroid and had to use a different apk. I don't know who made this one (i downloaded like 10 from xda and tried about 4 before it started working), but here's the winner:
techneesh.com/paranoidandroidnfcscreenoff.apk
*****************
Hey guys,
I searched for hours but could only find reports of people *NOT* getting this to work on the Verizon GS3 (hence the name of the thread).
I tried hacking my stock Nfc.apk using dex2jar & modding the smali files (after looking up the appropriate values to change using decompiled dex2jar classes.dex's nfcservice.java), but after much frustration decided to just go ahead and try the existing versions out there.
By the way, if anyone is looking for how to do this (decompiling/modding/recompiling an apk) with 4.0.4 (and getting the 'bad magic number with smali/baksmali), refer to the comment on May 8th in this thread.
I'm pleased to report that mayhemer's AT&T version (for the SGS-I747) works for us Verizon folks!
You can grab it on his thread here.
I've also uploaded it to my server. Here's a direct link:
techneesh.com/Nfc.apk
I posted this in the Development section because I would really like to encourage devs to work on modding Nfc functionality further. Also, this is a more advanced mod for a system app.
Google Wallet did not throw errors with this .apk (as it did with others), although I have not tested it yet.
NFC reads trigger the nfc tag's function and the alarm/beep, but do not turn on or unlock the screen (while it is off).
Also, I just got a whole bunch of NFC tags in and plan to make some cool products for them... if you have any ideas let me know on my 3D-printing-on-demand-for-xda-samsung-gs3-folks thread.
Note- I am on Bean's Custom Stock R3.1 07/28 (I know, I need to upgrade)
4.0.4, SCH-I535, Baseband I535VRLF2, Kernel 3.0.38imoseyon+, Hardware I535.10
Instructions for apk:
1. Get apk onto your phone
2. Stop NFC (or else your phone will start lagging // freezing after the next step)
3. Copy the apk to /system/app/ with a root explorer and overwrite the existing Nfc.apk (you should make a backup first)
4. Change permissions to match other system apks (rw-r--r--)
5. Reboot & re-enable nfc. Profit. Share your uses.
For zip you should be able to just flash in cwm.

oh man, don't get me started!
think about it - you get to your desk and want to tether / turn on music / silence phone. just tap it on the nfc sticker on your desk. done.
you get into your car and want to enable gps / turn on music / navigate somewhere. tap your phone to the nfc sticker. done.
i have a lockscreen for security and even though it only takes a second to open it still adds up over the course of the day. the ability to quickly do (any) task on your phone without unlocking it or even pressing a button is huge.
for example, I canceled home internet last year when I got LTE but this means I have to turn on tethering every time i sit down at my PC. using a tasker nfc-activated command I can just touch my phone to my desk and it's on. time saving and just fun.
or maybe you are in a meeting and miss a call and want to call them back - have a pre-programmed nfc sticker that will command your phone to set an alarm for (e.g.) 1 hour. tap your phone to it without fiddling /unlocking/interrupting your meeting further.
what really made me think of this is while I was looking for something behind a wardrobe and wanted to turn on my LED flashlight on my phone. how cool would it be to have an nfc sticker (on your keychain? on a sliding mechanism on a custom techneesh.com case on your phone?) that could basically act as a 4th hard button to do a custom function (in this case, turn on the LED flashlight without 1. turning on screen 2. unlocking 3. going to home screen 4. finding LED flashlight app and opening)
and yes, this is for real
I'm trying to get this to work on CleanROM 2.5, with the G7 baseband. I followed the steps correctly, but it doesn't to anything different than the stock NFC
I can still read my tags when screen on and unlocked, but i get no response with the screen off or on and locked.
Triskite, did you modify the .apk from the linked At&t SGSIII thread at all? If not, would it be safe to try the other apk's listed there?
Thanks!

the apk worked as-is for me - only thing i can think of to try is to turn ON a lockscreen? (I use the pattern security one)
safe? I certainly can't assure that... but would I try them? yes.

I went ahead and tried the .zips from that thread
I flashed the nfcmodI747_lockscreen.zip flashable from CWM and it works like a charm!
Once i did this, i wanted to see if the screen off nfcmodI747_screenoff.zip works, and it sure does (again, flashed via CWM)!
Don't know if it matters, but i did not disable NFC from settings before i flashed them via CWM.
Thanks again!
Just saying this is as of the moment the most unsafe mod someone can implant or put a nfc tag somewhere to run malicious code on your device. While I do not condone hacking of any sort, I know the possibilties of what these hacks can do from different forums (not naming any).
TLR, caution with this one guys. Especially if you're using wallet using my guide......
Ok...what are these tags you're talking about? I've never ran across NFC tags in "the wild"...do you buy them and then tell your phone what to do when it reads a certain tag?

Yea, I understand the risks and all.
I agree that it is a major security vulnerability for someone that wishes to highly protect their information.
I just wanted to try it for a proof-of-concept kind of thing.
Honestly its pretty quick to flash these via Cwm. I went back to stock Nfc.apk for parties/bars this weekend (Too many people close to me for security comfort), then today I flashed the lock screen version for my school week.
It would be really cool if it were possible to toggle this.

Can somebody post the stock nfc apk file(s)? I guess they are needed to take the OTA update after mucking with Wallet, and i didn't save them.
I just tried the nfcmodI747_screenoff.zip with the latest paranoid android (2.16) and it does not work. The NFC settings disappear entirely.

Here is my stock nfc.apk
I have flashed synergy (ICS), jellywiz and now cleanrom 2.5. I don't know if they've modified anything in the NFC.apk, but this is what I have.
If you wanna guarantee its ok, you can pull it from the stock ROM.

Has anyone got this to work with cm10? Im more interested in disabling the nfc scan noise. I tried to replace the ogg files in nfc.apk with silent ones using ninjamorph and zip signer but i keep getting force closes. Any ideas?

True, but this involves active running processes like GPS which can drain your battery. From my experience, NFC has no noticeable extra drain, not even the screen off modified version. Not to mention how easy it is to use the NFC programming apps versus Tasker, IMO.

soyes 7s mini phone- How to disable "assist touch" ? gets turned on each boot

soyes 7s mini phone- How to disable "assist touch" ? gets turned on each boot
I got a cheap mini phone for dog walks,
soyes 7s
got it rooted and works fine, but there is an assist touch settings that enables a floating button after each boot. I can disable it in accessibility settings, but it is enabled again after a restart.
I have looked in the files in root, but have not found anything yet that might enable this setting each boot.
Now created a task in macrodroid with autoinput that disables it with a button.
Any slight chance of any help regarding a setting that is activated each boot?
I’d like to know this too. I’d love to see someone create a custom rom for this cool little phone. I love it.
have not found a solution, but with macrodroid and autoinput made it toggle the setting. So after unlock the settings screen is opened then toggled. Not pretty.
Also installed xposed on it.
Very cool little phone. Perfect with a bt earpiece and audify that reads incoming sms-email and caller name. Used Vphone S8 before, but this android thing is better and not much bigger.
Thanks for that. It’s fun with angry birds too lol. I’m really surprised the geeks haven’t jumped all over this. Low cost of entry and super cool and useful toy. You wanna meet girls, take this out on an elevator when they are all messing with their phones lol. I have mine set up to look like an iphone and it’s ace. Even found a silver Apple logo for the back on eBay. It’s a conversation starter. Way more capable than an Apple Watch lol
Hi. I just received mine. I bought to use in the same reason as you did. I saw that the phone is consuming a lot of battery in idle. I tried to root but I couldn't. With tools do you used to root yours? Thanks a lot.

I used the kingorot apk to root, but first unlock bootloader.
https://blogthetech.com/root-forme-soyes-6s-without-pc/
I then replaced kingorot with supersu, version stable 2.79.apk not the new ones.

Thanks a lot. I tryed to do, but i am stuck in this part:
"Boot to Fastboot by pressing volume up and power Button Simultaneously"
When i do this the smartphone boots in Android. I already enabled OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging.
are you using the kingoroot.apk ? just install it and press one click root. Allow unknown sources and I think you need net connection

Awesome! Now it is working. Thanks a lot! I just installed xposed and now i am going to change some things and see if i can improve my battery. I will come back latter!
I installed the xposed installer and just installed the framework it suggested. arm7I.
OK My device is rooted. What is xposed? How does it work? I’m new to android. I’ve downloaded it from the App Store but can’t make it do anything. What tweaks work best and how do I get them installed?
I'd like to be able to tweak the home button functionality to be able to mimic iOS and activate voice search etc.
I have this phone too lovely little phone i have installed holo launcher and dropped the dpi down to 130dpi looks awesome now.The only thing is we need to find out what’s drawing the battery so fast in general use.The phone itself sleeps like a baby pretty good in standby anyone have any ideas. And would be nice if we can get a sub forum going for this device as i think its getting very popular.

I think the main issue with the battery is that its too small. Id love to see 4g on the device.

I don’t know about that because it does a good job at standby time something seems to be draining it when in use may be some app or background process.I am sure we have plenty of people here with the know how to get it running better. I know this phone has been selling like hot cakes and a growing interest in the phone because it so well built and does not look so cheap and decent performance for that crazy size of it.Also i have been testing hotspot on this phone and the battery life is amazing when using hotspot to my ipad very impressed definitely a very handy feature of this phone.
Mine is also changed to 130dpi, looks much better now. That sim tray is a work of art lol.
yes, this phone is very snappy for the size. Feels faster than the two android watches I have, that are not used. Needed something that can be tucked away connected with bt and a voice notifier.
The xposed module "app settings" is good to tweak certain apps dpi and font size. I think my overall dpi is 120-130.
Also setcpu profiles to save when screen off and 900mhz screen on, only max cpu with incoming calls. Then greenify and amplify.
For me it last 2 days of dog walks, or 4-5 hours on connected to bt with a few short calls.
Do you have any issues with app icons moving around changing locations? I’m using an IPhone X launcher.
no, but i use Nova launcher. Not paid much attention, mainly for accepting incoming calls
