Too bad that my friend's galaxy R also become black screen forever today! (Is it a black day today?)
He told me that he has plugged the machine to USB charge and leave it there for an hour. After unplugged, he cannot wake up the device. After pulling off battery and re-plug the battery, he still could not see anything from screen except complete darkness...
I do think that the phone has gone into APX mode and *might* be rescued by using nvflash method... still, I don't know how to help him. Anyone get any ideas?
I knowed more than 10 people whose GSR become brick . And i doubt the quality of Samsung GSR . because according to those people they said their phone become brick unexpected. and only way to recovery is use one machine called T32 or riff Tjag...
I've flashed about five different stock roms, and three seperate fan made roms plus numerous part builds to test for devs, and I have had zero problems
sorry to hear about yours

Thanks for your information.
So, should I suggest my friend to return the phone to Samsung repair center? Can Samsung recover it? If the phone has been rooted, is it still under warranty? Thanks.

If they detect the root, then they would not give you the warranty. But if it completely dead and they are unable to see if it has been rooted or not, they can't void the warranty.

Yes, you should see my name in some Chinese forums as I have also posted my kernel for Galaxy R in some Chinese forums
Well, I think we should obey the rules in this forum that we should communicate in English in all open threads.
If you want to talk in Chinese with me, can you please type to me using "Private Messages"? Thanks.
So , is there any news ?

Hello everyone! Today I accidentally flashed a stock ROM (with stock bootloader) of Samsung i9020T on my Samsung i9023 and the result is that no longer turn on! Do you think I can solve with an USB Jig? If there were no other chances, can I send it to Samsung assistance?

Ok, but I'm not sure that I can solve with the JIG!
Yes, I'm on Androidiani.com, but my tool can't solve an hard brick because are needed the JIG Usb and (if it works) ODIN Downloader, to reflash the bootloader.
If I can resurrect my phone I could write a tutorial to help the users with a problem like the mine..
Anyway I haven't yet figured out if, with the jig is 100% sure that I solve this problem. Have you never used it?

I really don't know the warranty policy, but consider the warranty as the last thing. Try that jig, then you'll see what to do. The pc cannot see the phone plugged to usb neither with the PdaNet?
Try to open a thread on androidiani, maybe there's someone that have had your same experience!

Can you link the ROM you flashed?
If you take out the battery then put it back in, then turn it on (or attempt to), does it do anything at all? Vibrate, flash something, anything?
If you plug it in to your computer, does it recognize anything as plugged in, even just a driver?

the 2nd section on unbricking, there's a chance you are missing the drivers necessary to have your computer recognize it and restore it. It's worth a shot.

It does sound like its hard bricked.
If usb jig didn't work for you, then only Samsung can fix it for you.
As for warranty, depending on what reason you give them for the "sudden death" of your phone, you might be able to claim it.

They might honor the warranty without having to "have" anything, just ask them. I have no idea how much they'll charge.
Motherboard replacement - anywhere around 2500INR
Approx 50USD.
There's one last thing to try.
JTAG. If you don't know how to do it, ask these guys if they can help you with your phone. http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/
They're very good and trustworthy, and their service is great.
It may not start in Download mode, but I'm quite sure a JTAG is still in point. If it doesn't boot into Download mode, it means bl.bin got messed up, which is something unusual since only Samsung code/flashable through ODIN can change that file.

You will have to send it to them and it will cost money. It's not something you can get a guide to do - they need to hook up hardware to the phone and that hardware is more expensive than paying them to do it, and not a "do it yourself" kind of thing.
You could search for JTAG repair in your country. Shipping might not be too bad in a small pre-paid USPS PMI box if you have access to that - I sent a small box to Russia for $13 USD

Sounds like it could be an issue with EMMC (flash memory) failure. So it is a black screen, doesn't boot to anything, and can't load the correct drivers, even when manually loaded?
I found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49959589&postcount=5
Which would seem to make sense, but I can't find any more info on it and the member who posted that hasn't responded to my requests for more info on this issue.
If you cannot get anything out of your device because of the flash memory you are out of luck and the only choice is to get a replacement.

Currently. It is possible to fix some phones that have messed up flash memory via a JTAG service. They have this for the N4. Hopefully it is just a matter of time before they figure out how to do the same for the N5.

Please ask specific questions as its related to the phone model. I'm not hopefully about it. You can get it serviced by "bootloader repair" Should be about 40$.
Some of the more common phones can be unbricked on your own.

I've already posted here, but I received only one answer, so I decided to speak more general just to know if it is theoretically possible to rescue a phone in the situation I described.
Anyway, do you think that there is no way that the pc can communicate with a phone that doesn't even reach the bootloader?
Ok, I'll ask a different question: the phone I'm talking about ended up this bad while flashing an official OTA.
How is that possible?
I thought there was no possible way that an OTA messed with the bootloader, or the recovery... or fastboot! Doesn anyone know what could possibly have gone wrong during the update?

Actually, it seems like your phone is bricked, there are some methods to unbrick some phones but I don't know if they would work for you, just try to do a Google search how to unbrick a bricked phone, and it might return with some useful stuff, try everything that's possible, because nothing worst can happen over a brick(except it can blast in your hand if you connect a high voltage in place of battery)(lol, it won't happen! )
Hit Thanks if I helped sent from my SM-T211
Already done that, I'm giving up if my pc cannot communicate with the phone.
At this point I'd only like to know how could an OTA corrupt the bootloader.

It's a completely stock phone? You've never unlocked the bootloader or tried to flash anything?
If that's the case, you'd be far better off contacting Asus about it. It is well within the year warranty and you may require a special cable to flash it correctly yourself. It sounds like it may be defective, so even recovering it could only be temporary.

It says they are updating the page. You probably won't hear back over the weekend and they take a couple days to reply normally. It is the safest way to restore the phone, though.
Making cables and using software that doesn't come directly from Asus for restoring from a brick is risky. It's a last resort when they say they won't help.

If the device is under warranty and this happened without you altering anything I don't understand how they can reject it
If the device is only stuck in EDL mode but no hardware damage and has a working bootloader you can try (entirely at own risk):
1 - Make (or buy) a deep flash cable and see if you can snap it out of EDL mode by activating it a few times while the device is connected. (Chances are slim but it does work sometimes).
2 - Disconnect and re-connect the battery pack from the mainboard. The battery connector of ROG 5 is located on the right side between the north battery and the mainboard when looked from the back. You need to remove the top part of the motherboard for access to it. It's not a huge operation but requires some basic tools and some phone adhesive for closing the backcase again. Some cooling paste is also useful to repaste the heat conducting parts before closing it again (optional).
However, if the device doesn't have a working boot and/or it's really damaged then all above is useless.
