I know there is already a CRT Off Animation flashable zip in this section, but if you already have a themed framework then it can be a pain in the a$$ trying to flash it over whatever you have. As for SIP over LTE/HSPA, I've seen a lot of requests from people on how to enable it, so here it is. I'm also making this kind of for myself, since I always search for tutorials on how to change things, but always just end up finding .zip files, which can get quite annoying if I only want to change one thing. In any case, here we go...

Superuser (Duh)
Apk Manager by Daneshm90
ADB + Understanding How To Pull/Push Files (Need help? Read this!)
Patience
A Good Texteditor (I recommend Notepad++)
Know why "sudo rm -rf /" is always a bad idea
Steps To Follow
Pull your framework-res.apk file from your system folder
Place said framework-res.apk file into the "place-here-for-modding" folder included in the Apk-Manager Folder
Run the Script.bat file also included in the Apk-Manager Folder.
Run option 9 in the newly opened window (Don't use the dependency option)
Go back into the Apk-Manager Folder; there should now be a folder dubbed "projects".
Head into that folder and open framework-res/res/values/bools.xml with that good texteditor you're supposed to have if you read the prerequisites.
Don't be intimidated by some of the code you see. Ignore everything else in the file and head straight for/search "config_animateScreenLights". This controls the state of the CRT Off Animation.
This step may sound a little counter-intuitive, but in order to get the CRT Off to activate correctly, you need to set the boolean to "False".
Now that CRT Off Animation taken care off, we can move on to enabling SIP over HSPA/LTE. Go to/search for "config_sip_wifi_only" and set this boolean to false as well.
There are actually other things you can enable/disable in the bools.xml file, although I would not recommend poking around unless you know what you're doing. Example: Enable Menu Unlock by setting that specific bool (not entirely sure of its name) to true.
Save the bools.xml file, and return back to the main menu of Apk Manager.
Select option 11 and say y (system app) and then n (no need to retain anything)
If you head back to your "place-apk-here-for-modding" folder, there should be a new file named unsignedframwork-res.apk. Open this (DO NOT EXTRACT THE FILES) using a tool such as winrar or 7zip, and delete both the META-INF folder and the AndroidManifest.xml
Copy the META-INF and the AndroidManifest.xml from the original framework-res.apk and place it in the new unsignedframework-res.apk. Remember to not extract the files, just copy/paste.
Rename unsignedframework-res.apk to framework-res.apk and push that back to the system folder on your phone.
Reboot
Enjoy Your CRT Off Animation + SIP Over HSPA/LTE!
FAQ
What is SIP? SIP stands for Session Initiation Protocol, and is used for controlling communications such as Voice over Internet Protocol, or Video over Internet Protocol. It's used in a lot of applications on the market, a big one being Skype. If you want to learn more, go here, here, or here.
Why would I need SIP over HSPA/LTE? Because I told you so. No, but seriously, this will allow you to use all kinds of SIP applications found on the market not only on wifi networks, but also on the go.
Can you haz build me a flashable zip? The whole point of this thing is to teach people how to mod their own already modded files without having to replace everything. But yeah, if you PM me I'll probably do it.

Why is jomeister15 so amazing? Sorry, this question is not infrequently asked.
nice tutorial, it took me a while to find this information a few days ago, good to know someone has gathered it and made it easy to find.
very nice i know i did that while back ago and i was like ughhh ** also there is a post for crt animation on you should include that too. i know id like to get it on my theme but im working through it and it blows my head into 2 .. but moderator please pin this thread or make it a sticky right @ top with cherry.
Awesome tutorial! Been wanting to add the CRT off animation to my ROM for a while now, just haven't gotten around to it. And I will definitely be following your guide. However, can someone please explain to me what SIP is? I've seen a couple of threads about it but none of them have actually explained what it is. Thanks!

What app in specific are you getting FC with? It may just be in issue with fixing permissions. Try that first, and if that doesn't work, re-try the procedure but do not carry the android manifest and meta-inf over. May I also ask what rom you're on? Every dev's framework is different.
oh CRT
hay i did it.. no FC no ERRORS or no CRT off animation.. phone is working normally .. (i made a zip also)
im using samsung skyrocket with embryo 6.1 plz help me to fix this(as above mentioned my framework-res also decreased like 2mb)

After going through many of the different lock ring tutorials, I have noticed that they all have something in common: They are too user intensive and prone to user-error. Sure, once you have it down, it's easy. But it can be daunting to start out.
All I have done here is make it EXTREMELY user friendly.
No more copying and pasting into ZIPs and APKs!!
No more fishing around the Templates tree in M10 Tools!!!
Simply run the BATCH file, get a cup of coffee, and then flash!
Here are the detailed instructions... (also in the Read-Me)
0. Make sure you have installed Microsoft .net 4 framework on your machine.
http://www.microsoft.com/net
1. Unpack User_Friendly_Lock_Screen_Kit_v1.04.zip (Where you put the file does not matter anymore!!!! For example purposes, I will use C:\Lock_Ring_Kit)
2. Copy your image into C:\Lock_Ring_Kit and name it LockRing.png
Image requirements:
a. Must be a PNG file
b. Image must be 271 x 270 pixels (If it is not the right size, it will come out looking funny (270x271 WILL NOT WORK)
c. The image must be rotated 180 degrees and reflected horizontally.
3. Double-click "LockRingCreator.bat" and let it do its thing.
4. Flashable.zip was just created for you. Rename it whatever you wish.
5. Copy it to the root of your SD card, boot into recovery, and flash
The BATCH file cleans up after itself. You don't have to go through and delete any of the old files. If you want to make another one, just change out the PNG and run it again. My desktop is pretty old, and the BATCH takes about 2 minutes to run.
I have only tested this on Synergy, but I assume that it will work on similar ROMs. I also believe that it will work on the Thunderbolt (can someone confirm that?)
All files are included in the ZIP.
User_Friendly_Lock_Ring_Kit_v1.05.zip
Error Reporting
This is a work in progress. If you have an issue, please post it on the thread. Also, please copy and paste the output from the command prompt so we can get to the bottom of it. (Right click on command prompt, Select All, the then press ENTER. It is now ready to paste.)
Acknowledgments:
jmaher1023 - I used his process as a template. All that my BATCH file does is automate his process
Flemmard and DiamondBack2010- I have no idea what M10 Tools does or how much trouble they had to go through to make it, but I do know that it is the heart and soul of this whole operation.

I'll try this out, thanks alot dude.
One thing you didn't mention is that the images still need to be 271 X 270 or they won't look right. Other than that this works on Gingeritis3d. (And if I want to say I was the one to create the lock ring I might edit the script) lol. Very good work though man. Very useful tool. Have you been able to find where the images are located for the Amazing sense skin? I haven't found those yet and want to use that semi transparent tool bar at the bottom but dont want to use a different launcher
somehow i cant get it to work ive followed every step but when i run the
"LockRingCreator.bat" it just goes into cmd really fast and nothing happens

did you make sure the file was named LockRing and was a png format? Something else to consider is that if you named a png image lockring.png then when it looks for the file it will see lockring.png.png so make sure it is a png format image but only name it LockRing.Hope this helps

dropbox has been the easiest, havent hit a limit yet, except storage space..... which i upgraded to eliminate that problem, all the others i have tried i cant upload anything because they limit file sizes that you can upload, where as dropbox just syncs with your desktop, takes awhile but works.
just tried it to make a flashable zip and it did the same thing as other guy, flashed the cmd prompt super quick, no zip created.....

wait i just checked windows update and it has 2 updates for net framework 4 lol

Make sure that you unzip the files to C:\Lock_Ring_Kit. When I install them somewhere else ("C:\Lock_Ring_Kit______"), I get the same error you do. However, the BATCH file did what it was supposed to do. Since C:\Lock_Ring_Kit did not exist, it created it, and there is a "Working" folder as well as a "Flashable.zip" there. But, since the original files were not in the right place, it is useless.
When the command prompt just flashes, what that means is that M10Tools are not having a chance to run. The only explanation I have for that as of right now is that the files are not in the right location. Also make sure that you named the image LockRing.png.
I'll see about making the batch file spit out an error code, but it might be a few days before I can get around to it. I'll keep yall posted.
I will start by apologizing for how this looks , It's my first time putting up a tutorial on anything here so excuse my mess but hopefully it is clear enough tounderstand and help some people out who like me are not the most gifted with ADB command.
I have tried some things and finally got my CRT animation working for my Play
(R800X). I did this with the help of Meister Li getting the files correct for my framework-res.apk with the CRT animation in it but for the leife of me I couldn't get it to work. This is how I got it to work, and also now that this si done I have also found out how you can still have the CRT off as well as using you own images on the lock screen. So, here we go
***YOU MUST BE ROOTED AND HAVE UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER, THAT'S HOW MY PHONE IS NOW AND IT WORKED JUST FINE,AND AS ALWAYS THIS IS NEVER 100% SO APPLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK***
Always remember to keeps a backup of original files incase you make a mistake or mess up that way your not up a creek without a paddle
Start by checking of Meister Li's thread to grab your CRT Off .zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065789
Also don't forget to grab your System.UI apk to get this to work.
Once you have that swing by the UOT Kitchen
Once in the kitchen go to kitchen and then click the upload tab on the far right
click upload files and chose your crt framework from the thread above and load your SystemUI.apk
Once uploaded click on summary ans go down to submit work to kitchen which will give your order number andf go to pick up and wait for it to finish
You now have a flashable .zip file to put on your sd card, then get into fastboot and get to recovery to install zip from sd card
*WIPE CACHE FIRST OR YOU MAY HAVE ISSUES*
After install reboot will take a few minutes but after that you will be good to go with your new CRT off framework.
Next is the custom lockscreen images, This gives you the chance to put any images onto the lockscreen.
Start by picking an image and going here to convert to a .png file
http://www.coolutils.com/Online/Image-Converter/
Then follow these steps to make a 9-patch.png file which is required for this to work. The toll is in your SDK
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/draw9patch.html
Once you have your 9-patch.png's you can now put them into your CRT Off framework-res.apk
Open your framework-res.apk,click on res and go to the following places
drawable-land-hdpi and also drawable-hdpi
I replaced the images in both spots but both may not need to be changed but better safe then sorry
In drawbale-land-hdpi I replaced ic_jog_dial_unlock and ic_jog_dial_sound_on
with my images (Make sure your new images are renamed to the files I listed or this will notwork )
In drawable-hdpi I replaced the same files and also replaced the
ic_jog_dial_answer and ic_jog_dial_decline
after getting your files replaces swing back into the kitchen and load your files as stated above to get your new CRT Off with custom lockscreen images.
ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!
-This should work with other SE phones but don't know anyone who has any, but feel free to try and let me know how it goes

Thanks. Yeah finally figured how to decomplie. Changed the field from true to false. Just trying to see what i'm doing wrong cause after compiling it back it doesn't have the crt shut down
Theres some sort of setting that can apparently cause it to work about 7/8 of the time but not that other 1/8. I'm looking around to see what it is and how it can be resolved.
And just in case did you push or install with root explorer?

EDIT: I just compile again and it seems to be working better. Thank you.
Hi all! First off, thanks to jholtom for figuring this out. I have thrown this mod in my PCB Blue theme (beta testing only now), and confirm that it works, BUT only when on the homescreen. I.E. if you are in any other app, the CRT animation will not run. Switching back to the homescreen does allow it to work again though. Another trick (if you have the kb dock) is to hit the "LOCK" key (top-right) while in another app, and then the CRT animation appears to play on further on/off toggles, but without unlocking the screen.
Not sure what the cause/solution of that may be, but I did find this thread on RootzWiki that also shows how to edit a .smali file in 'services.jar'. I am too lazy to decompile 'services.jar' and the .smali script, but if someone else is able to, maybe we can see if the further mods will allow it to work 100% of the time. Here's that thread:
[DEV] Enabling CRT ON & OFF Animation in Roms [HOW-TO]
I hope Roach gets wind of this, and maybe his expertise will point us in the right direction for how to get it working perfectly. It is such a simple animation overall, but one that gives us such joy and pleasure
Cheers!
Was hoping you would catch wind of this scar45 and put it in your theme. And nice work to you jholtom!
I hadn't looked at the CRT off animation for HC before as I read it didn't work right but I also didn't know about the potential fix in the services.jar file.
I'll have a wee play about and see what I can come up with.

Like on the phone it only shut down in portrait. Hope I make sense.
It only work when you're on one of the home screen and not anywhere else.
Yeah, I got it working for screen on and off but only from the Home Screen. When you do if from within an app the TF flips out.
Hey guys! Someone recently posted that they wanted to start to making their own themes and I posted a very long reply and figured, might as well post a "somewhat easy to understand" tutorial here for everyone.
So you want to make your own themes?
First off, it is important to know that if you plan on porting any themes over and releasing it to the masses, that you get permission from the theme owner first!!
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE EXPLODES OR MELT! lol
NOTE: IF YOU'RE A NOOB (you know if you are) DO NOT MESS WITH ANY IMAGE THAT ENDS IN ".9" UNTIL YOU READ UP ON THEM.......A LOT! IF YOU'RE JUST REPLACING AN IMAGE, THEN READ ON.
A good write up on .9 (9 patch) images can be found here:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/draw9patch.html
What you will need:
Apkmanager: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701
7zip: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
An empty flashable zip: http://www.multiupload.com/DBEMBUOCND
Lot's of time on your hands!
GETTING STARTED:
Apkmanager is going to be your "all-in-one" tool for making a theme in Windows.
(I'll go into all the options of apkmanager a little later)
The process you need to follow is actually kind of simple. It's just very time consuming.
First you will need to make the images that you want (unless you are porting a theme).
Now what you need to do is one way or another, get the framework-res.apk and the SystemUI.apk from your phone, if you want to theme the launcher then you need to get the TouchWiz30Launcher.apk as well. (If you don't want to mess with using adb, use Root Explorer, just copy the apk then paste on your sdcard, then copy and paste from your sdcard onto your pc.)
Extract apkmanager to somewhere easy like the desktop and you should end up with a folder named "apkmanager" or whatever.
Inside that folder, you should have the following folders:
Other
place-apk-here-for-modding
place-apk-here-for-signing
place-apk-here-to-batch-optimize
place-ogg-here
projects
Then the following files:
log
Script
DO NOT MODIFY THE NAMES OF ANY OF THESE FILES OR FOLDERS OR NOTHING WILL WORK!
Take the 3 files that you got from your phone and place them in the "place apk here for modding" folder.
Double click to open the "Script" file
Press "22" and hit enter to set your current job
Select either 1,2 or 3 for whichever apk you want to start on first
Select "9" to decompile
Once decompile is done, go inside the "projects" folder and now you have a folder inside there with whatever the name is of the apk you just decompiled.
Inside that folder are the images and XML files you need to replace (you might not have to edit any of the XML files, that's a little more advanced unless you already know how to.)
Most of the images you will need to edit will be in the following folders of each apk:
res>drawable
res>drawable-hdpi
You can look around in there and see what all needs to be done. I will get into themeing the contacts and phone and all that a little later.
Once you get everything done and you're ready to test it out, you need to go back to that "Script" file in apkmanager and open it back up. Now you're going to do pretty much the same stuff you did when you were decompiling the apk, in order to compile the apk.
In the Script for apkmanager, you're going to press "22" and hit enter, then select which file you want to compile first by either pressing 1,2 or 3.
Select the file and hit enter, then press "11" and press enter to compile the apk. As long as you didn't mess anything up during the process of changing stuff, you shouldn't receive any errors. If you do, you need to figure out what it was you messed up on and fix it.
Go through and compile the apks that you edited. Once that is done, you will go to your "place apk here for modding" folder again and you will notice that you have 3 new files in there:
unsignedframework-res.apk
unsignedSystemUI.apk
unsignedTouchWiz30Launcher.apk
Remember that empty flashable zip you downloaded earlier? Now you need it.
Right click on the flashable zip and mouse over "7zip" and click on "Open Archive"
Take the unsignedSystemUI.apk and the unsignedTouchWiz30Launcher.apk and place them in the "app" folder. Now rename those to their original names:
SystemUI.apk
TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
Now take that unsignedframework-res.apk and place it in the "framework" folder of the flashable zip. Rename that one to "framework-res.apk."
Now you can close out of the flashable zip file and place it on your sdcard.
Reboot into recovery, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik, now go to "mounts and storage" and mount /system.
Now go back and flash the zip file you just put on your sdcard.
Since you wiped your cache and your dalvik, the reboot will take a little while. You should now be good to go!
NOTE: Since I did not create apkmanager, I will not be able to answer many questions about it but feel free to ask. If I don't have an answer for you, Just go back to the post above where you downloaded it, and post your question there.
As stated earlier in my post, I will get more in depth about all this stuff as soon as I have a little more time to post everything.
Please enjoy and happy themeing!!!!!!
Thank you for this spc.

Not a problem! I'm going to add more stuff as soon as I get more time. Also, if there are any other themers that want to contribute like ForeverSupra or Endless or Stranula. Please send me a PM and I'll add your stuff to the OP as well!

Ima be all over this. 12 hr nightshift coupled with a mild case of OCD=awesome sauce ....you da man
In ApkManager you don't need to decompile the apk's. You just need to extract them because all you're doing is messing with the images.

Spc. There is an ultimate draw 9 patch out that makes editing the .9's so much easier once you have patched them. You may want to add that to the op, Stoney from BadSeed showed it to me and its so easy now, no need for eclipse.

Just so everyone knows, here soon I'm also going to be posting a tutorial on how to center the clock and move around your icons and stuff in the statusbar!
I had all the knowledge in the OP and decided I was going to start theming. Then I saw the literally hundreds of PNG's i would have to edit and decided it isn't for me lol. I get bored too easily to spend that much time in photoshop/gimp haha.
That said, I really appreciate what themers do.

It's the "updater-script"
To get to the updater script, of the zip file. Open the zip file with 7zip and go to:
META-INF>com>google>android
Open the updater script with Notepad++ or whatever text editor you use. Only the edit the text that says "place your text here" or you can mess up the entire zip file and it won't flash.

I'm pretty handy with Photoshop (I do graphic design) and I was wondering how I would go about making a theme. I am on Melvins stock ROM and I don't use a launcher. It was so simple on the iPhone, so is there a method similar to that of the iPhone?
Hey I'm in the same boat as you being design graduate myself. Its pretty easy actually you just need to get to know all the apk files and what goes where. The framework-res.apk, systemUI.apk house the majority of the files overall that you will most likely wanna mod. Then you have app specifics. Anyway here is a little vid to get you started very basic like. Its the dev M&S from the Tmob thread. His themes are super slick
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSB8iQvpU9k
That is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much. It's actually fairly easy, and I'm glad I don't have to use winSCP anymore.
Quick question though, what do I download to get the script and all that? And the SDK part?
I downloaded the APK manager and I have no idea how to get the framework into the script. Any ideas?
well you should watch the video! if you don't wanna watch than.
Copy framwork-res.apk from system>framework folder.
Past it in the apk folder where it says "Put here for Modding" and than you can open up the command prompt and go from there!
Hope this helps!\
Make sure to do nandroid because messing with framwork will give you softbrick and you will be F*****!

lol I was like the vid shows it too! And also you will need to do a search on how to mod .9 png files. They have code in them so if you mod them in photoshop ( I did this at first) they end up all warped and busted. At first I recommend the "extract" for starters in APK manager. Gives you access to all the png files and such. Once you get more familiar then choose "decompile" so you can edit the xml files (change text color etc). Hope that helps
I will be closely following this thread as I am learning to theme as well, let's help each other!
Does anyone know how to do the videos first part in "apk multi tool"?
Actually nvm I figured it out
I did watch the video. There are some steps he skips, however. Like selecting the framework, he never tells you how to get it in the folder. I figured it out, eventually.. but I still don't know how to get it onto my phone using the SDK that he uses. That is my question.
Ive been at this for about an hour lol. I figured out how to push the file but I couldnt do it from /tools/ so I tried pushing the apk from /platform-tools/ and it worked the only problem is that I edited the battery colors just to test and see if it would work. They were supposed to be red but their still the same color.
Btw to the above post, go to cmd and type "cd c:/" and then wherever your sdk is located. Unless thats not what your talking about then idk =/
Update: It worked...but...bootloops so I had to push the original frameworkres and it booted up and when I re-pushed the one I edited it still gives me a bootloop
I've started building themes. Everything has worked fine so far. I themed my gmail apk blue. And have been working on framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk and twframework-res.apk. Far from done but I've made changes to all three and pushed them to my phone no problem. Im using pirateghosts stock Rom space_pirate i believe is the Rom name

I'm using alien 5.5 and I'm still getting bootloops trying to push my modded framework-res apk.
The cake is a lie.
