[Live Wallpaper] Advanced Map (Updated 4/08/10)

I'm pleased to announce the release of the Advanced Map Live Wallpaper, which allows you to show your position on a variety of maps on the homescreen.
Features:
* Wide selection of maps (Ordnance Survey, Google, Satellite, Terrain, Bing, OpenStreetMap, USA VFR and IFR charts...)
* Battery friendly - it uses network locations and shuts down whenever the homescreen isn't visible.
* Data friendly - aggressive caching means that you should only need to download a map tile once.
* Variable zoom on all maps
* Accuracy circle (can be switched off)
It's partly based on my original OS Map application, and draws on code from the open-sourced Rmaps2 and the AndNav library. Consequently, this application is also open-source, with the source available as soon as I've figured out how to use the Google Code repository (or you have have it as a ZIP file by email).
Notes:
This is a BETA release. I'd appreciate it if you could post any problems in this thread instead of leaving a low rating on the app. Ordnance Survey maps won't work outside the UK.
Right now, if you turn GPS on, you may need to select another wallpaper before it'll turn off again. You might also need to turn "Refresh Position" on in the settings page, which will be fixed in the next update.
Finally, I apologise to whoever's house is in the screenshots since I picked a location at random!

Update (14/06/10):
New version (0.9.3) uploaded. Minor cache fixed, force-close issue *hopefully* fixed, some general tidying up in the source. If it force-closes for you, try clearing the application data. Alternatively, enter the settings page, choose a different map type, and it should work. You can change the map type again after that. Hopefully resolved now I've remembered to close the database... ;-)
For those who can't find it, it's available to download here. You'll have to check for updates manually, I'm afraid, and if you keep an eye on the Market it should turn up eventually.
Update (16/06/10):
New version (0.9.4) uploaded. Fixes include landscape support and the really irritating bug where it would forget to load map tiles should now be gone.

Update (5/07/10):
Version 0.9.5 uploaded to Market. Only major change is the addition of the Hike and Bike map as requested by a user. It should show up as an update on Froyo.
Also discovered the reason why it's not showing in the Market for Droid users - turns out that they don't respect the "Live Wallpaper" filter and won't show apps with that enabled in the Manifest.
Out of curiosity, is anyone still encountering problems with either the wallpaper itself, or finding it in the Market?
Update (4/08/10):
Version 1.0 uploaded to the Market. Major changes include the addition of Google Traffic and smooth scrolling between home-screens. (I hope you appreciate that, it took AGES to implement...) ;-)
There's an issue with force-closing on some phones which I haven't been able to resolve - no one has replied to my request to run Log Collector, and without a log I can't fix the problem. The Android Market is supposed to show crash reports, but doesn't.
Donations:
I've never been keen on asking for money, but there is a "donate" version to the Market. It's identical to the current release (which will always remain free) but it would be great to get a bit of reward for the hard work that goes into writing a Live Wallpaper.
It's only £1 and donations provide an excellent motivation for bug fixes and new feature requests. If you have the normal version, you'll find a donate link in the settings page.

It would be really cool if we could get an overlay like: greenchairpress .com/blog/?p=1392 working. It's cool having maps, but it's not something I see myself using day to day. If there was a map alternative that was a bit more stylized that would be rad.

Not showing up on the market for me

alexland - is it possible to browse Bing Maps in that style, or does the Microsoft server have to render each mini-map on request? If it's possible to just get the tiles, in theory it should be possible to have it on the homescreen.

The accuracy circle bothered me on the other map wallpaper, thanks for letting us disable it. Are there plans to enable panning, or was that left out in favor of battery life?

Clearly something is up, there are lots of us unable to find it in the market. I learned about this app on an Android site and the one and only comment to the article was someone saying that they could not locate it either.

This looks like a great app, but I can't find it in the market either when I scan the QR code.

ok, so, i think this only shows up on froyo. I was running cyanogen 5.0.7 (2.1) on my nexus one and it wasn't showing up. Then I restored to a nandroid of froyo (2.2) I had and searched for it, and sure enough it showed up, also, the screenshots in the thread are froyo, or at least look like it, so that also leads me to the conclusion its froyo market only

DroidSeries is a TV Series/TV Shows browser and tracker application for Android. Tacking down TV series, episodes, air dates, etc, is a difficult task as there are so many TV series. DroidSeries will help you manage your favorite TV Series and keep track of the episodes that you have or have not seen.
I created this application and just released the first version. Suggestions that help improve the app are also welcome and appreciated!
It's most probable that you will find a bug, so sorry in advance and keep those bug reports coming!

Thanks, will give this a shot as MyEpisodes Viewer no longer works.
Don't know if this is possible and it might be a bit cheeky.. but would it be possible to import the database from MyEpisodes? ;-) I've spent quite some time going through all of the shows i've watched on there, it would be good if I could skip doing it again!

Suggestions-
*Couple of Serie/series typos?
*I would prefer it if the specials were not included in the 'Episodes not watched' calculation. Many of them are silly little clips which don't even air everywhere in the world. Also it includes them in the number of Seasons, which gives the incorrect number for most shows.
*Some form of simple backup/online sync is a MUST
*Shows without a thumbnail appear to be selecting thumbnails from other shows at random
*Following on from that, an option to manually add a thumbnail?
The layout with thumbnails look superb and it all moves very fast

I will take a look at that, if it is possible I'll make it happen.

I agree with the typo fixes and possibly an option to remove specials. Something not mentioned though which is not a big deal but would be real nice, add an option to select all episodes as watched in a season to speed things up a bit.

Aside from the few typos, this is a pretty nifty app! I see potential in it.

It's already possible to mark all episodes of a seasons as watched. There is a context menu in that window. If you long press a season, the option will appear.

Like I said You before it looks very interesting this app, let me see if I have some time to try it today.

Yea I didn't spot this at first either. Actually enabled me to add most of my shows very quickly

First off, as an avid Television watcher I want to thank you for making such an application. I often forget which shows are on which nights and at what times.
This application is a great start and really has a lot of potential to be much bigger.
A few suggestions if I may,
1) Notifications when the show is going to air, or something letting you know that the show is going to be airing that day.
2) I know someone already mentioned this, but a backup of all the shows that have already been inputted. I have over 40 shows I like to keep up with and to input them all over again would be a pain.
3) Perhaps an option to get the show synopsis for each episode.
Can't think of anymore as of right now, but when I do, I will let you know.

I really like the look of this
At the moment I use tvjunkie and it is an excellent app, but I like the addition of colour thumbnails on your app.
I have just installed it and had added about 5 tv shows and was searching for a 6th and got repeated FC's for some reason
Another thing is when I tried to update all series, it tells me I have no internet connection even though I have full wifi signal. Then I do them individually and it works??
Finally, I added a tv show my wife just started watching called Haven
It has aired 2 episodes so far, but even after updating, it tells me I have 8 not watched and next epsiode is 1x01 on 9th July 2010, whereas the next one will be 1x03 on the 23rd July?
As a matter of interest, or maybe you don't want to say.... just curious where you are pulling the feeds from. I checked epguides and it gives correct air dates for Haven, whereas IMDB TV seems a bit jumbled for this tv show and would explain the errors?

Great little app, I have started up some google issues with some typo's..
I do have one comment, not sure if I want to mark what I have seen unseen via the app, I already have mediabrowser to do this via my MCE.. More interested in when the show is going to air next etc.. Anyway to bypass the having to mark a show as "watched"?

Found a bug:
* it sometimes FC when adding a show. Not always though but it FC just after pressing the add sign and i think i just see the popup for retrieving the show informations for a fraction of a second before that.
Some wishes:
* i added bleach, it has so many seasons that i wished there was a "Mark all season up to this one as seen" button
* some sort of rating / comment / integration with a forum would be nice. So far you can only see the show description. Or something like amazon: people watching this show also watch XXX. I think this would be great to have in the future.
* a better highlight of the unseen already aired shows (vs. unseen not aired yet), so for example i could just open this app and figure out what shows just aired that i should see next
* related to above, you could also split the main show list into "Just aired": the shows that you can see now, "Coming next": shows that will air in order of air date, and perhaps "On Hold": shows that are between seasons and will air like next year / a few months (can make this time lapse configurable)
* related to above, why not a widget that displays that (i am not a big fan of widgets in general but it could be useful)
* a timeline view
* option to ignore unseen specials

Description
The main purpose of the app is to make it simple for you when you:
* Need to ask someone for a ride and that "someone" is not bright enough to follow your directions.
* Have a date planned and your date has trouble locating you.
* You simply want to share your whereabouts.
* Are asked where you are and it's easier to show on a map.
Your location can be shared using SMS, Facebook or Email.
Anyway, I'd appreciate it alot if you could take some time to test it and/or let me know what you think of the idea.
If you choose to share your location through SMS you don't need an Internet Connection.

I actually made it cause I got sick of trying to explain where I am to my wife I wanted to make it as simple as possible with as little requirements as possible.

I've just made some changes:
When clicking the link you'll go straight to a page showing the map. The page is a bit different looking depending on type of browser used (mobile or desktop).
For reference, you may try this:

The reason for hosting the map on my own page is that the urls to google maps won't be parsed correctly in SMS messages, and you won't end up at the correct spot in google maps.
As the few of you who have tested it know, there's no need for an internet connection when sharing by SMS, I'm now thinking of adding these features (which would in turn require internet connection)
* Making the location url easy to remember so you're able to call someone and tell them verbally (something along the lines of droidstop.org/tri897)
* Adding more sharing options, such as twitter and a couple of popular messenger softwares.
* Perhaps have a "simple mode" option, which could work in offline mode. Have to think about that.
Anyone else has more suggestions?

As soon as i hit Locate Me Now it brings up the loading window and just sits there...have been waiting for about 5 minutes for it to locate me but won't get past the loading window...i will keep an eye on this one..i would like to do a video review on it for my youtube channel =D

There's an update coming within just a couple of days that can fetch your location based on network instead of GPS, that might fix the issue temporarily.

Actually I decided to release a quick-fix.

- Use WIFI for positioning if GPS is not enabled

I've just released 1.3.
Completely redesigned, and I've put a lot of preparations in it to fit my plans for world domination
You may notice that it asks for a username/password and it can perhaps seem unnecessary but it's required as I need users to be able to sign in using a web interface very soon. (Don't worry, all you need to fill in is username and password, and an email address (doesn't even have to be a valid one for now))
This also means you can sign in on another device to share a location. In the next release you'll start notice more useful areas for this app.

Can't seem to get it to run on my Motorola Atrix running CM7. App opens, i enable GPS, click the locate me now button and then the loading window pops up but never goes anywhere. Just stays loading.
Would love to use this app.

@j-roc, hmm thats strange.. If you turn off GPS, does it work using Network based location?

Good to see that you are reporting wrong location to us, we will check that location out shortly. You probably didn't know this due to our lack of instruction in the app, but the app does have a feature where when you are at a location that isn't accurate, you can correct the location on your device.
The way to do it is. 1. Click on the detail of the location(Walgreen), 2 Click on the triangle sign(button). 3. The app will search for a GPS signal and when it lock in, press the fix button. That will send us the right coordinate for that particular location and it will also reflect in your device right away. No need to way for us to correct it. This will also help order people in your area out too .

I see flags, lot of flags on the map and list, what's wrong? I see some retailer graphic, but lot more flags now!!! Though when i click on flag it shows me a list of retailers and flag next to it. Not as intuitive as having icons. Can you get the retails logo back?

I had this same problem the first time I installed it yesterday. It was in the middle of loading the icons and then my data connection dropped. It left with a bunch of flags and restarting the app didn't help. I found a fix for this, by wiping the catch and data in the setting->management application. Once I did that all the icons came in.

Did that, helped only partially! i can see bevmo yay! but I still see lot of flags i.e. AutoZone is a blue flag? and so are others...

We know about the bug Carlos mentioned and will fix that in our next major release. The work around is what Carlos has described. Go the setting->manage application->you are here->clear cache and data.

If you are only missing some icons then that is because we are a bit behind on icon creation as we were focus on pushing a lot of new data last week. We will fix it shortly.
You probably saw some local food places with just flags in your area. Those we will probably never fix unless they are very well known.

Took this out for a last minute shopping in San Francisco yesterday. Worked out pretty good. Data came in pretty quickly. The only problem was in the middle of downtown the GPS went in and out because of tall buildings. Other than that it worked great.

Nice concept. Would be cool if it could also access one of those online coupon databases and show you coupons/sales/deals for stores around you.

This baby has social network integration for sharing deals, coupons etc. If you find a deal you can post it and it is visible to others (TagIt) using the app. You can also share a tag on social networks.

Nike+ Running was released for Android last night in the Play Store.

Map your runs, track your progress and get the motivation you need to reach your goals. No sensor or additional products needed, just grab your phone and go.
- From the trail to the treadmill, your phone's GPS and accelerometer accurately record your distance, pace, and time. In-run audio feedback lets you know these metrics at every mile, so you can stay focused on your run.

- Rotate your phone while viewing the Run Summary to see the breakdown of your run into mile splits.
- See how your last run stacks up against your previous seven, and get fresh insights based on your latest activity every time you come back to the app.
- Swipe upwards on the Home Screen to view your next moves. From picking your PowerSongs to challenging one of your personal bests, there’s always something to make your running experience better than before.
- Visualize all your runs side-by-side and see your progress in a bar graph history view.
- Syncing your run to the Nikeplus.com website allows you to view your maps on a larger screen, set a new goal, and find Nike+ Top Routes in your area. Check it out.
- There’s even shoe tagging. Type in the name of your running shoes to track the distance they’re logging and see when it’s time to lace up a new pair. You’re never done running, but your shoes might be.
- Need extra motivation? Add a widget to your phone’s home screen to show when you ran last, display your total mileage, and for even quicker access into a run.
- Some features such as Share Run and Cheer Me On require users to be connected to a wireless network for full functionality. Please note that continued use of GPS running in the background could dramatically decrease battery life.

When i tried to download this from the Play Store it said my device (HTC One X) was incompatible. I have installed the APK directly and it works perfectly!! Post below if you find its working for you too!!
EDIT: If you want the latest updates you need to download and install market enabler (will add apk in a sec), change country to t-mobile (us) and in Play store hit menu -> settings -> my apps, and there should be an option to update nike+.

once i went into settings in the app it crashes and wont come back untill i reset data on app. probably because my DPI is changed to 241 instead of stock 320 :/ no nike runnning for me... yet

Seems to be working fine on my Arc. Will go for a run later to confirm!

Don't work on my galaxy nexus...

I have it, and happily using it on my samsung Galaxy Note, with ICS.
However, I just recently noticed that it has been eating up my battery, even when I am done using it. According to ICS battery consumption, it is on top of the list, and even eating up greater power than the screen.
So , how do I properly shut this app down, including its background processes after using it?

does anyone have the latest 1.0.2 apk for this with stability fixes? In the UK only O2 customers can get this app until the end of the year

Works fine on my Galaxy Nexus (GSM).
I'm running Jellybean 4.1.1 and am on T-Mobile in the UK, oh and i've rooted the phone.

1.0.2 APK request...

If you want the latest updates. Get market enabler (apk added to OP), change country to t-mobile (us) and hit menu -> settings -> my apps, and there should be an option to update nike+. It worked for me anyway, if you get stuck let me know and ill try and get the 1.0.2 apk

Hi, I don't have root access on my one x. I don't want to void the warranty. Market enabler won't work for me. Please upload apk?

Hi guys, does anybody already figured out how to re upload the run which was erased by mistake ? im trying to get to the source of the app where the runs are stored but no luck yet. any suggestions ?
