Hi,
I've been searching around for a while, and being somewhat of a audio enthusiast I was looking forward to the rumored support of USB Audio out in ICS. Sadly no such thing has been implemented yet as far as I know.
There is an issue created on code.google's android site:
(I'm not allowed to post links as I'm a new user but this is the link) code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24614#makechanges
I'm no experienced kernel developer, but maybe some of the wizards we have working on kernels here in the Sensation section could have a go and try to get this working on the custom ROMs?
Might not be a large usergroup out there that would like to use an external DAC with their phones, but I'm one of them and I know there should be more out there.
Anyway, It is a great feature that Android is currently lacking and if there isn't anything you yourself can do about this. Then your wrong, you can voice your opinion and help out by voting on the link above. Just Press the star at almost the bottom of the site above the comment field.
Thank you for reading this far.

Shameless B-U-M-P
Moving from a thread in head-fi (I CANNOT POST THE LINK DUE MY LOW N. OF MESSAGES) i've discover that sadly I cannot use my Fiio E17 DAC with the full power of usb
Reading in the request page of Google Code - Issue 24614 - (I CANNOT POST LINKS DUE MY LOW N. OF MESSAGES) I've discover that some firmware are supporting this feature.
May some of the coder add this possibility in the sensation firmware?
Really appreciated! (sorry for my poor english language...)
Finally!

USB Audio
USB audio output support allows hardware vendors to build hardware such as audio docks that interface with Android devices. This functionality is also exposed with the Android Open Accessory Development Kit (ADK) to give all developers the chance to create their own hardware.
Thanks Google :good:

Hi there
the company that i work are developing an android based eco drive system. and i have been asked to do some research on it
the first obsticle we will face is actually connecting the device to the can bus. I have found a bluetooth however, im wondering wether this will work and wether there is a better way this can work
the system will have to work on almost any android device this is why i believe that the bluetooth system will be the best
also can any one direct me to a half decent Android dev site. i am a complete beginner with android development and really have no clue where to start and google is being proper vague
i hope someone can help :-S
Ian
Hey,
I have worked quite a bit with CANbus and I am aware that there are some good Bluetooth based solutions for linking to the vehicle.
Be aware though that CANbus is hit and miss with data and it is completely dependant on the manufacture what data is exposed to the CANbus, so certain vehicles may not have all the data you require.
As for Android development, best place to get started is the Androids own Reference, examples. I would post a link but I am new here, so just google Android Development and it'll be the top result.
Other than that I can only suggest googling/youtubing tutorials like with any other development.
Hi all,
My name is shai and I'm new to java and android, this is my first application, most of my experience is in c, c++ , vb, pascal.
My question is, is it common to publish the application before it was debugged?
Just to tell about the features and to read your comments,
tnx
shai
A lot of guys release apps for beta testing on here, to benefit from bug reporting and such like.
I think this is the thing all developers do on this forum...
I can only speak for custom ROMs. They get better after sharing and testing.
Must be the same for your apps.
Please share and I'm sure a lot of people would be glad to test them.
Hi, I'm a new developer to android also. I do most of my debugging before publishing in the market. For beta testing I usually ask in forums and then send a limited version of the app via email. If you are looking for a beta tester I have an HTC Flyer with Honeycomb if you need help. I'm always willing to help out a new person. Just email me at [email protected]
Based on how people review on the Google Market, your best bet is to have a stable version before release on the market.
Also a good description of its features and screenshots make all the difference.
First, it was nice to read your post s, now I know that I have someone to get advice from.
At the beginning my partner idea was just to develop an application to transfer the phone microphone audio to the Bluetooth head set. I took his idea and expend it to more features like:
a. Transmitting audio from the mic to the head set
b. Recording to an audio file
c. Hiding the app window (so no one knows u r spying on them)
d. Transmitting audio from the headset to the phone so the users can have conversation
e. Blocking incoming calls
The app is 80% finished all I miss is
Retrying Bluetooth connection after incoming call (Have no idea how to implement this feature…..if someone have one…..pleaseeeee tell me) and of course debugging ,which haven’t done so far because I don’t know which phone to buy
Thanks for all your help
shai
Hi everyone,
As many of you would have known, despite USB Host functionality being present in ICS, USB DACs have yet to be supported on our devices. This issue has also been starred by more than a thousand people on Google's site but still has not been noticed. (Link here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24614&sort=-stars&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars)
Quoting a fellow XDA member: If Google did their work then we could use relatively cheap USB DACs with our Android phones and enjoy great music sound quality, no matter which cheap DAC/DSP the manufacturer has seen fit to include. Now with ICS this is a simple software fix, which makes it all the more irritating (someone has managed to add support for these in a Nook Colour kernel that works with CM9).
Right now, we can bring it up to a real Google Engineer while they visit my school (I have no idea how my school manages to be on such good terms with Google). All you need to do is help to vote this issue up so it gets the first pirioty to be asked. Perhaps then, we will get a chance to put the spotlight on our issue.
Vote the issue up here: http://www.google.com/moderator/#15/e=1fc068&t=1fc068.40&f=1fc068.665f43&q=1fc068.665f43
Please vote this up and share this out to your social networks. Lets make Android a even better operating system for all!
Quick update: Since this was posted it has risen in priority!
Please continue to give your support so our issue will be answered! (And remember to tell your friends to help too!)
Bumping this thread up!

Can I give it more than one vote? haha ):
It would be nice to have DAC/AMP support on Android by default.
Hi buddy,
thank you for the information and discussion! I'm more of a business head than engineering but I am a lossless guy who loves his media players. Can you tell us more about what kind of things would be possible if Google enables this support?
Hello,
I have been tasked by my company to further research the viability of implementing an ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) based system. I have ruled out hard wiring a 120v camera since these are various remote locations I am trying to secure with ANPR. Since they are manned stations, the natural conclusion is an ANPR system. Something like this:
[I am too new and it won't let me post the youtube link, but if you search youtube for "MATRIX Android ANPR Rendszám azonosító" you'll find the video I speak of]
I have found many (at least 10) examples of similar functioning software, at least they appear to be, but nothing that is really for sale. I am new to this site but I know all of the experts are here. I'm wondering if either a) Any of you know of such commercially available software, or b) any of you are knowledgeable of how I can get it developed?
Thank you very much for your time and I hope this is posted in the right place.
Regards,
Danya Mahota
I'm looking for information pairing bluetooth hearing aids with the 8T. Evidently there is something known as ASHA that the phone needs to be compatible with.
My problem is, I just got hearing aids for the first time and the app from the manufacturer connects fine to the hearing aids and allows me to control the volume but it does not stream audio to the devices.
Anyone with knowledge of this?
Go into accessibility, hearing enhancements, hearing aid support. Your Bluetooth should be on and link it to the device.
Does the aid manufacturer have an Android app?

They do have an Android app. I was able to find in the accessibility settings an option to enable hearing aids, but so far still no streaming audio.
Look in Developer options too.
Sound and connection settings.
Android tends to bury advanced settings well.

I think I'm finding out from the manufacturer of the hearing aids that it's only compatible with Androids with a separate device that goes between the hearing aids and the phone.
What do the specs for the hearing aid say?
There is only a small statement on the manufacturer's website that lists the devices they are compatable with and the 8T is in their list. It is compatable with their app that controls the volume of the hearing aids. But there is supposed to be more options like streaming media and phone calls. I'm just going to have to switch brands of hearing aids to one that works because I am not switching to an iPhone, I refuse!
You'll need to do some heavy reading to sort this out. I know very little of the protocols and what's available. Start doing searches and collecting links etc...
I am in the same boat - I have an Umidigi A9, and the Chinese devs have not yet included ASHA support (even though ASHA is available as of Android 10). I am exploring the possibility of rooting my phone to manually include ASHA support.
Do a Google search for "Android ASHA compatible phones" and see what devices your manufacturer supports.
Samsungs tend to have user and bt friendly/customizable UI's, however not sure if this extends to ASHA devices.

I already know my device is not officially compatible; my goal is to make it compatible.

You might find something specific for that device on the Samsung or similar forums.
The Samsung one is fairly large and occasionally helpful. Not the right manufacturer but it may give you some ideas.

Sorry for another response/question - the Samsung forum is HUGE, with a ton of subforums. Have any specific forum in mind that I can post to? I was not able to find a general Samsung forum - seems like I have to pick a specific product first.

Use Google search, that's what I do.
Just add "samsung forum" or such to the search.
Playing around with the search parameters may lead to other sites as well.
When I tried a search not a lot popped up, but I only tried for a few minutes.
Try this search if you haven't already: "One plus phone,ASHA (Hearing aids)"
