Ive been out of the phone loop for a bit, due to buying a new computer and researching all the parts for that
So im trying to get back into the phone swing of things. My phone is pretty dated and slow. Last time i was around, i had my eyes on the HTC Sensation, tho it appears the Amaze has out done it alittle bit, however word on the street is that phone is on its way out. So this maybe a really broad question, but whats a good phone to pick with the following
* Can work/Does work on AT&T Network
* qHD disaply
* Multi-Core
* Flash (leds)
* Runs Android
I've been an HTC fan for awhile, but have seen some recent complaints. Im also not overly happy with them releasing the phones i prefer, on only T-mobile. I prefer the more rounded ones like Sensation and Amaze, yet they more square bricks are what gets dumped on AT&T (sorry, i dont like the Evo design)
So can anyone offer up some suggestions, current or future, or should i hold off for a while longer?

Well it didnt feel like a "i have a problem, heres my question" thread to me, which is why i didnt post it in the Q&A. I felt it more like a general discussion to gather opinions..
Thanks for scolding me like a child in public tho. I will post every thread that has any kind of question in the Q&A tho from now on. So my apologies.

Is probably because of the fact that people who really knows the answer do not care to read this part of the forum. Agree people?
There are plenty of people who read this section of the forum every day and come up with answers.
chill.
Do people really read this section? and answer?
Shalom Nir,
In almost 2 years of daily reading in the forum I have to admit I hardly read the question section... Look for yourself at any given moment - over 600 view the hack part, less than 10 in the question part...
Do the math - it is x60 likely to get an answer if it is published in the hack part. Not that you are not right, it is against human nature..
hehe. the questions & answers section only exists for about... 2 weeks now... that might be the reason
if you post in the development and hacking now you are asked to post here (or yelled at) and your thread may be moved or deleted. people are in that section to work on or download software, not to answer questions like "which is better, throttle launcher or wad"
as the section grows more and more, and people become more aware of it, they don't answer your questions there.
Another thing, when people log on they usually do look through the questions section to see if they can be a help, but if they can't then they move along. in other word people don't "dily-daly" around, they get the job done and then move on.
percisely put.
Every time I visit this site, I pay a visit to the Questions and asnwers forum. (since the QandA section has existed) First I check my previous posts to see if I can help those people first, then I search the QandA section to see if I can help with some of the new questions. If I can Help, I do try, if I can't I don't say anything and I leave to begin my own searching and reading, I constantly check back to New Posts to see if anyone has any new quetions I may be able to help with as well. This section does not show many people visiting because you don't need to stay long such as in the DandH section. there just isn't that much reading to do here as there is there.
Well put answers...
Sorry for playing the devil's advocate for you guys. I just pointed out what seems obvious. i did not even notice the Q&A section is that young... Silly me.
OK, you got me, from now on I am going to pay a visit to this section (as I just did). I don't post much but I am a WM user for 3 years now, starting with ETEN G500 , moving on with HTC P3600 and hopefully getting a touch HD as soon as it is supporting 3G in the US (yes, i still hope it will in the near future against current posts). My poor trinity is my witness, as there isn't one WWE ROM I did not test...
Since i am not a cooker, nor a talented graphic designer, I will try to help on this section as much as I can. Thanks for all the cookers , they are the ones to blame I hardly sleep since i was introduced to this forum...
i'll drink to that
Theoretically I agree with those defending the section. However, I just posted a question and 368 people are in dev and hacking and 1 person is in Q&A....me. Maybe it will take a little time for people to journey over that way. we shall see.
it doesn't matter how many people are in the Dev&Hack section and how many in the Q&A section.
the dev&hack section is NOT intended for questions, it's intended for Development and Hacking.
the fact that people spend most of their forum time there is natural because they can get the latest updates for their apps.
you can't expect people to sit in the Q&A section, it's pointless. as joel said, you pass by, check if there's something you can solve, and move on.
htc dash or motorola q9h? both updated to 6.1
i have to get a new phone my touch got washed...i know im in the wrong section but i need an answer fast because the auctions are ending soon and dev and hack has the most viewers and developers that have some experiance with both phones... thanks guys

Would this not be better asked in Q&A or the Dash forum??? Nothing to do with Development & Hacking, but as a quick answer check sig.
thread moved
hope you now will get another answer too
nope still no solid answer.. you could have waited until i got an answer to move it
Questions are meant to be posted in the QUESTIONS section, not in the DEVELOPMENT section.
that's why it writes QUESTIONS in the Q&A section and not something else.
do read the rules before posting, and when someone moves your thread, trust that they didn't do it because they were bored.
everyone needs their questions answered fast.
and please don't double post questions, it's not going to help you get what you want faster... maybe the other way around.
you got a concrete answer from stylez... who has the Dash and said it's better.

you have a question it goes in the q&a section. PERIOD.
If he wouldn't have moved it someone else would have. Your lucky he was being nice and didn't give you a temp ban for posting in the wrong section knowing full and well it was the wrong section.
haha wow this site got way to rediculous with this sticky bs and mods out the wazoo i used to love this site now its just filled with over powered people who take this way to seriously what happend to the old xda where people where kind enough to answer questions no matter what section they were in and that was only a year ago... i guess gone is the old ways of a few sections and a handfull of IMPORTANT stickies and the brother like feeling when you did ask something or you created something no mater if it was usefull or not people still cared enouh to be kind... and now it looks like xda tore its self and its following and integrity apart with all this over structurized crap, power hungry a$$hole mods (except for the oldschool guys and a few newer like noonski and abraker...etc.) and honestly ive been around for awhile im a senior member and contribute my work and helped others i know the rules and everyhing SO STOP TELLING ME TO FOLLOW THEM IF YOU DIDNT GO CHANGING THEM EVERY WEEK IT WOULD BE FINE!.. but guys come on pull your selfs together your acting like the idiots at enron! ban me if you must but its just a shame you let this happen...
these mods have to stop stepping all over senior members and treating us like were effing children or cattle its just pathetic!
btw. i dont think anybody even checks those damn stickies besides mods
and i ddnt care it was moved at all and i didnt care that i put it in the wrong section i needed a fast answer(your Q/A thread would have taken to long to get an answer!) i knew it would get moved or deleted AFTER I GOT AN ANSWER and dev/hacking has the most views and the most knowledgeable people who could help me out fast! and i needed the info from a developer that may have worked with both because i am a developer and have never used either device i create for the elf and mogul.
follow the rules and have a wonderful day.
for your information, most threads in the Q&A section are responded to after no more than 2-3 hours.
hey there i have cm 4.2.5 right now and i want to update to current. do i need to update 4.2.6-4.2.9 individually or just update with the newest rom? thanks guys
You can just apply the newest one

omg he created a new thread,,, lets beat him senseless,, dood grow up. lol. did you need to actually reply to this thread?
this is a user end question about a rom that already has a dedicated thread full of similar questions which is where they're meant to be. if every single question like this was asked in a new thread then no one would ever find the threads on roms and development that are the reason this forum exists. general user questions either go in the general sapphire forum or go in the existing threads. end of, move on.

You think with 9 posts under your belt it would mean your saving them for posting something useful....obviously I'm wrong!

He's right though. If people at least post redundant questions in the right thread, then they don't clutter up threads where they shouldn't have been asked at all.
It also makes it easier to find the answers if the questions aren't spread everywhere.
In this case, however, confusion easily arises when the Cyanogen thread is in the Dream forum and you own a Sapphire. Not immediately obvious where to ask relevant questions.
My own strategy is to provide a concise, clear, useful answer to the immediate question and also add ad vice about how to handle future questions. I don't really understand people who posting in response and neither help nor provide useful advice. That IS a waste of time.
wow was it really that big of a deal what a welcoming community
thanks to you guys that didnt give me **** and answered the simple question. I'll be more conscious of where i post next time

People, including me, are a little bit sensitive about the development forum. This probably should've gone in the Q&A section as its not directly development related...also the cyanogenmod wiki is a very good resource that it seems a lot of new users don't know about.
You shouldn't be afraid to ask questions and I apologize that it has become like that. This community really is amazing.
Google, read the wiki, read the thread, post in Q and A, hit up #cyanogenmod on freenode, etc. There is a ton of support available - maybe steer clear of the dev forum - it gets ugly, as you've seen.
Welcome to XDA
With all these threads being moved about quite actively, and that may be a good thing, I myself am not schooled on the difference between what constitutes a general purpose thread versus one that should be considered more of a Q&A type thing. For instance, aren't 90% of the threads here in this forum begun as questions that are missing a question mark in the title? Ether the OP had forgotten to indicate the existence of a question in the thread title or the title is misleading, because invariably, you will find in the OP, you guessed it, a question. So, what's the dealy-o?
General: "The MyTouch 4G looks AWESOME in red!!!"
Q&A: "Does the MyTouch 4G look awesome in red???"
That's about the only diff I've been able to tell
I have to kinda agree. I tried to implement a well known and proven successful thread from WM here, to have place for answers to commonly ask questions with answers in a single thread closed to other post where anyone with a question could look to see the answer before posting. Mainly for Android development but it go shot down by the Moderator. IMHO General should be a place to ask all general questions so the Q & A section is pointless.
Shouldn't this be in the Q&A thread? LOL, just kidding
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Q&A section is for questions that have a clear cut answer. General if for a community discussion about a subject. I try to evaluate each thread as if it is for discussion or for Q&A, and sometimes it's hard and I get it wrong. If I do and you feel I made a mistake, feel free to shoot me a PM with your reasoning and I'll take a second look.
Thanks,
Korey

Why not put a list of all the questions that have answers on the first post of your Q&A thread? Then once people get used to checking there first before posting, it will reduce asked question and unnecessary post.

Well that's kinda the point of the Q&A section. Users good just get use to searching as well

Well whatever but as you and I know the majority of users will still not search so in theory it is good but in reality we know what happens. I had my doubts when the WM thread in chefs central started but I can tell you it made a positive impact and works very well, and to have all the solved questions and links to the solved thread in the first post for easy reference helps everyone. Sometimes even the search fails us. It is just a friendly suggestion take it for what it's worth.
Well if someone makes a FAQ thread and makes it look nice, and promises to update it often. I promise to sticky it
I think the two sections are pointless and should be merged as one or too many things are being moved to Q&A, i dont remember every single question being moved into Q&A on the vibrant forum

o they do.... go look , and not everything is being moved from general sections. only cut and dry q&a threads. and im more efficient then most moderators as well jk'ing
In the description under GENERAL it STATES 'General discussion, tips, Q&A, ETC., UNDER. Q&A it reads questions about ATT HTC one x.
So I posted a question about TWRP and flashing. That is a general question whose answer relates to the TWRP and flashing procedure of custom ROMS, whose answer would be applicable to any phone.
One, I believe I was correct in my placement,
Two, it's kinda sad someone saw fit to make an issue,
THREE I KNOW THIS IS IN THE RIGHT SPOT.

Q&A is for any questions. This is indicated by the title of "Q&A". Seems quite straight forward to me?
Generally all questions should go in the Q&A forum. I realise that the description for General does state "..., Q&A..." but this is a little misleading, and Q&A is the place for it.
I'm going to close this now as it's redundant.
EDIT: I see you recived an infraction for this. Let me look into that.
