Hey guys , I've a Nexus S(i9023) - whit CyberGR Hybrid ICS (5), Matrix Kernel (15),
I try gps with sygic navigator, in my house the gps does not locate me, I try it inside my car and it take 20 minutes to search the first satellite, and after 10 minutes it does not locate me. Then I close navigator, and turn off gps.
try this https://market.android.com/details?...wsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5lY2xpcHNpbS5ncHNzdGF0dXMyIl0.
GPS requires a clear view of the sky. This pretty much means the phone needs to be outside or on your windshield to locate you properly. If you are holding it in your hand under your cars roof don't expect too much.
Yes but i've an acer iconia tab a500 wifi(honeycomb 3.2), and with sygic navigator the same un my i9023, i try my tablet while i'm driving and it takes my position in 5 minutes. The problem should be android 4 ics rom? I'm using [ROM][24JAN]CyberGR-MOD|NS.NGN ICS v.5 HYBRID+Matr1x 14.5CFS|CM9+AOKP|MODS++|STORMY!!

and i think GPS depends on your current ROM.

no it really does suck. I flashed that zip, used gps toolbox and still very slow to find a lock where my old evo used to lock on in about 5 seconds, same spots.

Compared to my HD2 2, yes it does really suck.
It gets confused as to which street I'm on, which direction I'm going on the high way when I start it (because GPS locks me on the opposite side).
It's accuracy never goes below 30m or whatever it is, which is wider than many streets.
When driving on the highway I can never get more than 5-6 satellite locks - I can get 8-10 on my HD2 easy.
Plus, first lock always takes a long time - this makes me wonder if AGPS is even working. HD2 had the same problem for a very long time until it was fixed by the work of many hard working developers. After that fix, with AGPS locks to 8 or more satellites were always within a few seconds.
If you compare the GPS signal strengths in GPS Status between Nexus S and HD2, it's obvious the Nexus S has much weaker signal.

I bought sygic aura. He finds everything, points of interest, addresses, petrol stations, shops but my current location three blocks differs from the actual location. Even when I'm in the car nothing happens. My arrow is not with me. What is the problem here? is because the GPS is not designed for the HTC HD mini android?

no there is something with my gps. it worked always no problems, but now for about 3 months my htc don't have any signal, even on WINDOWS MOBILE No signal. so i let it be , just wait 8 months than can i go for a new phone. . I now used my nokia N95 for navigation
Which WinMo ROM do you have? Have you changed it 3 months ago?
no , i had the lastest winmo version, now the oldest because i used a hard reset. so i guess i have on this moment the oldest. but i had this one a while ago : _HTC HD Mini_RUU_Photon_HTC_NLD_1.36.404.1_Radio_Signed_32.2803.05.06_0.63.05.36_Ship
For GPS issues, the first post in the tutorial "Install Android on HTC HD Mini" under the heading of known issues states in red font: GPS software in WM will not find satellites if you turn off GPS from location settings in Android
You should try the solution that is detailed in this thread. You have to follow this step even if you reflash any WM6.5 stock ROMS because reflashing won't fix the GPS issue. I know this from experience.
It is also discussed at length here
It is assumed you are using the latest build of Android for HD Mini. If there are continued issues, try a completely clean install (remove all old Android files from your SD card). If you still can't get GPS (both in Android and WM6.5), then maybe consider it is a hardware fault.

im sure it's a hardware fault. i have yesterday buy a adapt bluetooth gps and it is working fine. Fast fix even in the house. I think my internal GPS is dead. I used a lot . Almost 4 hours a day, 1 year long.

I guess drivers are different for a BT GPS when compared to the internal one. So if the BT works, it does not ay anything about the internal gps?

I would say if you do a hard reset in WiMo then you should see at least some satellites. Did you also try the app androsensor in Android? That tells you the status of all sensors, including the gps (i.e. location and number of sats). In that case you don't need a program like Sygic to check it. It works quite nice. Maybe worth checking?

yes, but in italy (my location) the fix are imprecise, the position on the map its wrong about 20 miles, with this patch the precision of your position is better, try it!

Well the first connection to gps satellites takes time (4-5 minutes for me) after that it gets a lot better. I cannot say I got lock in 10 seconds indoor but about 30 outdoors is my average. You also can try GPS Status to reset and download AGPS data...
I thanked you because I accidentally missed the quote button, any way to unthanks?

Well try disabling screen timeout and then waiting for signal for about 10 minutes with screen on, if that doesnt work than rooting is a must
Sometimes its the app that's the problem. Try running GPS status and tools app first that will get a fix faster than a sat nav app.

unfortunately, no, unless you have s-off with a *working* clockwork mod and recovery
its a script in a zip file that needs to be flashed before android loads
Yes, won't work for now.
Maybe you can use A-GPS injector, I use it, don't know if GPS is really faster to aquire with this app, since for me, the Sensation is really fast to get satellites signal, muuuch faster than my HD2

Not sure what problem you're trying to fix. I just watched the video linked in that post supposedly showing the script working and it's worse than my Sensation works out of the box. It took 29s to lock and the accuracy never got better than 36 ft. I usually get a lock in 10s or less and the accuracy gets down to 9-12 ft.
Can't answer your question about whether it's doable now.
I am at my witts end with this thing. I feel like I have tried everything to get this going, but it does nothing! At one point it seemed like it was maybe going to work. It would lock for awhile and then starts searching again, then locks... Now it will not lock at all. My wife has an Aria. That little sucker locks within 20 seconds with 4m accuracy INSIDE the frigin' house!!! Here is what I have done so far:
- Tried every radio listed in the sticky with their listed Ril...
(I feel like a FLASHING FOOL!)
- Tried Angel Death's North America.zip flash
- Downloaded GPS Status & Toolbox
- Downloaded GPS Fix
- Tried AR-HD 5.22 Rom
- Tried Inspired Ace 1.01 Rom (Current)
What in the H&LL do I need to do to get this dang thing working! I feel like I may be at the point of un-rooting and getting it replaced. I would really prefer not to have to go through that hassle, but if anyone has any insight, I SURE would appreciate it.

I will look at the post again to see if I can find anything region specific.
I live in Michigan.

Go to the bottom of this post. There is a color coded map of the US. MI is located in the NE States section. Right below that, click where it says "XDA MEMBERS CLICK HERE". On the new server site, click on Parent Directory>>usgps>>USGPS 1.2>>Northeast.V1.2.zip.
Give it a shot. I don't know if this will fix your issue but it sounds like you have nothing to lose.
EDIT!!! OOOPS I forgot to paste you the link!!!!

I'm no GPS expert so maybe your file is ok, but I also live in Michigan, I'm using CM7 Nightly 136 with Inspiremod 0.5, with the radio in my sig and the RIL that the Radio thread suggests for it. I get lock to 8-10 sattelites pretty quickly with GPS Status. But my gps.conf file is MUCH smaller than yours:
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin

Maybe you should give that radio and CM7 a shot and see if that does the trick.

That looks pretty close to what i use to see. Maybe all the stuff I did screwed it up. Is it a good idea or a easy way to get the gps.conf back to stock?
As soon as I get home, I will try reflashing with the east coast.zip and post my results.
My gps has been crap in every Rom and radio I've tried. Maybe its a hardware issue. Then again, if that were the case, it'd prob not work at all. Sometimes it takes me 15 Monroe get a lock in car, sometimes never locks at all.
Don't pull your hair out trying to resolve it. It sounds like you might have a bad handset. I've exchanged 2 phones for defective GPS already.

Seriously! Wow, that makes me think I should get it replaced. Does it work on the handset you have now?
Did you have to un-root it before you exchanged it?
How long after the second bad one did you realize it was bad?

I just tried to modify my gps.conf file to match yours and it gives me an error when I try to save... Tripple checked too.
What ROM are you using now?
You could try this it always works for me when I'm having gps lock issues. I use method #2, and I suggest you read it very carefully, and follow the directions exactly as stated. Good luck, I hope you get this sorted out.

I just flashed Gingerbeast. Using GPS Status from the market, I finally got a lock, however, the accuracy is only good to about 50m - I was hoping to use this for navigation - I do not think 50m accuracy will be good enough for navigation. Besides, I can not get it to lock using Google Maps/Navigation - Only GPS Status.

I was a bit scared to try it as well, just triple check what you type into terminal before you hit enter and all should be well. I've had to do it 3-4 times and it always works. It's now the first thing I do if I have any gps issues.

Ok... No Brick
40m is the best I can get it to lock down. It must be cablable of locking better than that??? My wife has a completely stock Aria - Lock to about 4-6m in about 20 seconds!
After doing what you suggested - did you install Angel Deaths patch?
I've had to replace my Inspire for gps issues as well. I had to go through the whole unrooting process to send in the old one. My replacement (see refurbished) gps works alright but no where, I mean NO WHERE as good as my wife's aria.
I agree that it's rather aggravating but what can you do? Unroot and get the exchange process started and hopefully you get one that has functioning gps.

Looks like that is what I will have to do. I am currently downloading Roms 4 and 5 to try that - if no change - unroot I guess. Never unrooted before - but it cannot be any harder than getting root I would think.

No, I've never tried Angel Deaths patch. Not that I have anything against it, I just haven't had to. I lock in 5-15 seconds and have 4-6m accuracy, that is with the radio in my sig, when I was using 26.09.04.11_M2 it would take up to a minute to lock and accuracy was in the 15-20m range. That's just my experience though, it's different for everyone.
I just realized that GPS reciever of desire S is not working when I stay in my room. But Sumsung Galaxy S Advance is working very well in my room. Does anyone know how to improve HTC Desire S's GPS reciever indoor performance ?
See screen capture. I capture while I'm in side my house but It's appear about 400m from my current location and I have been waiting for 5 minutes to get the GPS reciever working.

try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442032 it works for me.
i did manage to get a signal immediately right after i installed it from inside my house in front of my pc. Was not able to produce the same result twice(didn't really wait long enuf to test as i dun need gps in my house). But i have to say that this improve my signal lock tremendously.
and i think gps not able to lock on while in a house is not really an issue :cyclops:
cheers
Desire S GPS is precise, but weak, and won't work well indoors.

To test ur gps it should be outdoor in an open field, not inside brick wall. Is like testing ur mobile radio in an elevator and asking why can't i receive any reception inside here
But how is it when you are outdoor? Any improvement on the gps-lock?
GPS generally isnĀ“t recommend for indoors, and it doesnt have sense to use GPS indoors.
Have no problem
I have no problem for outdoor It take just 10 seconds to lock.

WTF are you playing at dude?
Why are you re-opening an old thread (From September last year) in the Dev forum just to ask the same damn question you keep asking in here?
You have been told repeatedly that GPS is NOT designed for indoor use. You have confirmed that your GPS works fine outside. What is your problem? If you are indoors then you surely know where you are - it's not as if GPS is going to help you find the toilet, or find your arse
The Dev forum is for Development - not for pointless questions.
So you mean I'm damn... Ok I'm damn but. Why I can get Samsung Gallaxy S Advances work in door perfectly but not Desire S? What make sense to me is If it work in a house or building is benefit of finding and also can provide us a location where we can find each other easy.... Also maybe you can find my ass also.

Because the Desire S has a weak GPS antenna design. Everybody here knows that - it has been discussed to death. The thread you re-opened states that and the reasons for it, along with a possible hardware fix if you want to try a bit of soldering.

How about you are trying to check in or create new location(accurately) on facebook or google + you have to go outside building for just that reason? It's waste time...
