[Q] Facebook for HTC Sense on stock Android

If I can extract the Facebook for HTC Sense .apk and transfer it to my permanent rooted T-Mobile G2 (HTC Vision) running stock 2.2 android, would I be able to install it and use it on the phone even without HTC Sense? The only thing I want out of the Facebook for HTC Sense application is the ability to upload pictures and immediately tag people.
I am willing to try this out to see for myself if it works, but would like to see if anyone has already done this before I attempt this potentially fruitless/dangerous endeavor.
Also, I'm hoping to do the same for the HTC Camera. Is it possible to install the HTC Camera on stock 2.2 android simply by transferring and installing the .apk?
Thanks!
I have been wondering the same thing myself as I would like to take the weather and facebook sense apps from my HTC Incredible and put them on my girlfriend's LG Ally.
I'm not sure if the *.apk for the particular app is all that is needed or if there is a sense "framework" that is also needed.
Didn't work
For those who are interested, I tried it and it did not work. I got an error after clicking [Install]. Based on other posts, the applications do need the "Sense Framework" to work properly.
It looks like there are some tweaks that can be done to get certain applications running (like I know the Desire camera was ported to the Nexus on a MoDaCo ROM) but I'm not sure if this is possible for all apps. It's definitely beyond my knowledge at this point.
@jervill, Thank you for taking the time to post that information.
That has helped to answer one set of questions but also opened the door to another set.
answers the question .

I hate to sound like a pessimist, but don't bother. HTC applications are waaaay to dependent on the Sense framework and won't run (mostly won't even install). It's not like Touchwiz, which is just another apk you can install on any phone.

A couple questions

I hope these don't come off too n00b-ish, I'm not new to Android nor to rooting phones. I had an Evo and was on Sprint when I realized that...hey, Sprint's service sucks, so I came back to Ma Bell since they finally got an Android device worth buying (no offense to others, but the Aria is way too small)
Anyway, my first question is do any of these ROMs up right now have sideloading capabilities yet?
Second, coming off of the Evo I had Sense 1.0 and it automatically linked my contact card to my Facebook through Facebook for Sense, but Sense 2.0 doesn't do that, is there a way to link my picture/contact card to Facebook?
Third, speaking of which, anyone else have problems with the Facebook App? It doesn't show my picture on my profile and half of the time doesn't load a lot of user pictures.
And last, HTC released Swype for the Evo, is there any plans of the I4G/DHD getting the keyboard too? I mainly use Better Keyboard but liked having Swype at times.
No one can answer these?
To my knowledge, every Rom here has sideloading enabled.
I only ran Sense for a few hours so I can't answer that. Sorry lol.
Facebook works fine for me.
Once you have sideloading enabled, search Google for the swype beta and install it. Bam.

You people and your damn AOSP. lol. Thanks for response, not sure what is wrong with my Facebook, it did come pre-installed, once I get rooted I may just need to reinstall it from the marketplace and it should work.
The facebook app that came preinstalled on my I4G wouldn't show my or some other pics either so I gotta say that it has to do with something that the stock rom had. I'm on CM7 right now but I remember that I was able to automatically see my pic anywhere that the stock sense apps had an entry for the owner's pic, like the messages app, contacts, etc.

[Q] Just rooted phone - need advice

Hi all
I have a HTC Desire HD and have just rooted it. I've got the MIUI AU version and I love the interface. Only problem is, it doesn't seem to like my contacts very much. For example, even though I have someone saved in my contacts, when they text me, the text just shows their number and I have to save them again. Why would it not recognise the saved contact in the first place? I have limited understanding of all this root stuff and the main reason I had my phone rooted was because my previous interface wasn't that great and the phone was laggy and buggy. I also has millions of apps on the phone that I couldnt uninstall. (android 4.0.3)
Basically, can anyone give me any advice to sort my contacts out and have my phone running as awesomely as possible with this new rom?
Thanks!

You have to check on this xda site HTC Desire HD at top there
--> FIND YOUR DEVICE...
If you like the way that MIUI but are having trouble with it you can try LorD ClockaN IceColdSandwich (ICS) Rom. The ROM runs on android 4.0.3 like MIUI but its more on the ICS side. The rom isnt completely perfect, but hey what rom is. I am running it on my Inspire 4G which is (almost) the same phone, and i really enjoy it. Its smooth, fast and not so much an overwhelming rom with tons of features. But still enough to keep you interested. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450962

Issue with Tumblr on ICS

Hey Guys,
Anyone been having trouble with Tumblr app not working and behaving as it should since ICS? i know a whole bunch of apps still have very little ICS support i just wanted to know if anyone knows a get around? (apart from going back to gingerbread) before i get that thrown at me lol
I've had the same problem with the Tumblr app. In my opinion, the Tumblr app lacks a lot of features. I'm using Tumblelog.
It works with ICS and has a LOT more features that the official Tumblr app.If you do use use Tumblelog, it decides to cach everything in your SD card, so remeber to empty is out after a while.
Since I can't post links yet, just go to the market and type in Tumblelog. It's by Luckydroid. Has like a flowerish app icon. There's a free and a paid version.

[Q] Mod ROM Newbie

The last time I rooted a phone and installed a custom ROM was on a HTC with Windows 6.5, so to say I'm rusty is an understatement.
And honestly, I liked HTC Sense so I never had the urge. But now, I have been waiting for the ICS Android for so long that I think it's time to Mod Again! And it will be nice to get rid of that pink T-Mobile crapware! So I have a few newbie questions, I'll hope you'll forgive me.
1. Will I be able to keep all my app store bought apps? How?
2. Can I go back to the "official" ROM if I have to send in my device for repair?
3. What are considered the best HTC Sense/ICS Roms for the sensation?
4. Will I be able to migrate my contacts? How? (and will I be able to get rid of the awful duplication of records that seems to have occurred somehow)
5. Is there a reason to actually not go for HTC Sense? I personally really like the smart linking features of contact related information and the way contacts work with all the social networks info in one contact record. I think the contacts are where the phone shines. I hate the bugs in the music app and I don't really like the photo app either.
6. Where can I find a good step by step guide? (I can find it myself, but while I'm asking the pro's anyways)
7. Are there any limitations such as things that won't work as well because of driver support etc?
Cheers,
Marc
