Hey guys,
I was looking over at Windows Phone 7 the other day and I noticed that the UI looks really cool! I don't want to buy a windows phone, but I also found out that the HTC HD2 can dual boot windows mobile and android at the same time. THe HD2 also has a snapdragon, so would it possible to port it over to the Inspire/DHD? Im not sure if this is possible, but I wish i could get the UI, cuz it looks really cool! Thanks!
Been covered several times. Major legal issues to start with.
There is only one way to get it without getting into the ramifications and headaches associated with porting the Rom. I am posting the link for Launcher 7. One of the tech sites I regularly read, said this is the best launcher based on the Metro UI. The donate version is 1.99, they have a free version but it has ads. This one is ad free.

for a nice wp7 experience, use the launcher that ZeroRilix is recommending along with the other wp7 apps you can find here:

Why?
Why? Why? Why?!!!
If you want Windows Mobile with a 4.3" screen get the HTC HD2 or the HD7.
Why not?
As far as i know none of those phones support AT&T 3G or even less 4G. Would be pretty awesome.
I have an HD2 that can run 6.5, 7, or Android it is a Telstra version so it gets ATT 3g in many areas just Google ATT 3g 850 map and see if you're in their area. If you're interested I'm selling it.

To prove it can be done

Ya I would spend hours doing something just to prove it could be done

i'm rather curious about the possibilities as well coz the phone is sweet on it's own (despite the fact it has to run Android out of the box) and the 3G/4G incentive would be a fantastic Windows-based alternative for this configuration/design... just sayin' ('',)
While I can respect the desire to try something completely silly like this just to see if it can be done, you should expect that you may, and very probably will, brick your phone. Unlike Android, the code for Windows is not just out there. Putting Windows on a device it isn't certified for will likely fail because you won't have a proper set of drivers for the device. But I have tried silly things like this in the past with Linux putting it on devices it wasn't intended for with some success and the fun is sometimes all that matters.
I can't think of a single compelling reason I would want windows mobile on any phone I ever get unless they suddenly come up with a good blend of business and enthusiast features with WM7 doesn't seem to offer, but to each their own.
If you're interested, this might be fun. Not a rom, and not the same. But interesting.
Hmph. It's called Launcher7. I'd link you to it, but the forums don't want me to. It's in the Market.
I am interested... how much is your telstra phone?
Why is this silly? It's all part of the hacking/modding experience.

I installed Launcher 7 on my Inspire. It's surprisingly pretty decent. It's free, so there's no risk involved.
if the iPhone can run iOS and android with a loader on boot, why would it be so hard to make it for an inspire? way more open then ios development.
I want this too as did a bunch of nexus one users, there's already a thread about it over there. But the answer is no, it isn't gonna happen as there are no drivers, windows phone is closed and can't get ported.
Hey All,
Ive done a quick search on this topic, but nothing jumped out at me, so ill just ask, sorry if it has been covered before.
Would it be possible to get wp7 on the sensation? preferably in some dual boot form?
The reason i ask is because i just ordered a sensation, but am also interested in wp7, and on my last htc (hd2) these kinds of things were possible, so im guessing it should be possible here aswell, right?
Lets discuss? and thanks in advance for whatever the outcome I <3 xda!
I doubt it will happen any time soon . Wp7 isn't open source and its possible on the hd2 because of the almost identical hardware.

k then
any other replys?
You could download launcher 7, i think it's called. It is a launcher that is like windows 7. It is free and you can customize it like you want. You can get amazing icons from this forum.
Excuse this question if it is in the wrong area.
I recently rooted my phone and am running reverted aosp which i am really enjoying. a few of my co-workers have windows phones. such as the focus. Now i understand that windows os is not open source and most of the roms for the sensation at least are either Sense or Non-sense, are there anything rom-wise in development that mimic windows phones operation? thanks in advance-
Check out Launcher 7 on the market, not rom, but awesome launcher. Identical!
Thanks techno I've actually used that launcher for months at a time but as you know it's merely a launcher and. Doesn't effect apps or anything else at all. Looking for a rom that actually changes most functions to text based like with windows

Sorry man, but they don't have but a few roms like that. There are over 450 android devices. You should install CM7 though, you will get better battery life.
well i like rev.aosp and battery life really isnt a concern. i run cm7 on my nook so i'm familiar with it, was just wondering if i could run a mango mod on my pyramid. guess ill have to just buy one
i see no reason to put time and resources in a skin when vanilla android is good.
also, customers dont have to wait a year to get there updates,
anyway its a question that has always bothered me.
can anyone give me some info on this matter.
thank you.
I thought the custom skins were good on gingerbread, bringing improved design and extra features, but vanilla ICS is gorgeous and I wish people wouldn't mess with it, or they could give a theme option.
I especially hate touchwiz!

Suggest a way to distinguish them?
Why will you buy the same product if it's already available in market? You won't. So it's very necessary to add personalized touch for each manufacturer.
Think of coca-cola and Pepsi. Same basic ingredient but still different?

To each their own I guess. I love the Sense UI from HTC. I've owned 10 or so android phones from Samsung, Motorola, and HTC, and it's night/day experience between the brands.

Before ICS "vanilla" Android wasn't very good.
The reason is differentiation. If two phones have exact same hardware, what would make you prefer one over the other is the skin. At least the ordinary customer.
Sent from my U8150 using XDA
ordinary people would just look at the design of the phone rather than the specs.
TeeJay might be right that before ics android was not so good.
my first experience with an android phone is with gingerbread and htc sense on top of that.
dont know what it was like before that.
but after playing with a nexus s i already made up my mind.
my next device will be a nexus.
its called differentiation and it's useful to distinguish them from the others. hehe
Hello, I am running Paranoid Android and am very happy with it. I'm going a little flash crazy though haha. I was curious if there was a way to flash windows mobile to my HOX? Can this be done? If not is there an app or tweak that I could do to get that windows look and feel to it?
Thanks!!
No, there are legal issues with porting windows to a non windows phone
There are plenty of launchers on the market that have the look.
Your not going to find much more than that.

There are no drivers to make WP/WM work with our phone, they would have to be created from scratch. And WP is closed source, so as mentioned there are legal issues, as well as the closed sourced nature making it all that much harder to work with. Technically its "possible", but the amount of work involved makes it completely infeasible. It would probably take hundreds of hours. Much easier to just buy a Windows Phone.
Any sort of port would violate the WP EULA, and you can be sure any sharing of the port would be viewed by MS as software piracy. Frankly, I'm not sure why they even allow the mock-WP launchers since they're copying the distinctive look of WP.
