Use 3G Watchdog. You can backup the usage to the sdcard.

i use 3g watchdog, and is amazing.
anyway from my passage to ics i note a huge usage of data by the Android OS... donno if is normal or not.

..

I'm on a rooted stock so I can use anything and wouldn't restoring my settings.apk screw up my whole system ?

[Q] just a little rom question

Id like to play around with new roms but its a pain that we always have to clear data after install, why is this? Its a pain to always have to set My phone back up.

I think you can get titanium back up and it save everything data and apps then you can reinstall everything. It has to be the paid app the free only supports one app. I could be wrong but someone else can confirm what im saying.

It only applies if there are framework mods or if the base firmware version is different. System app data is usually incompatible and in some cases user app data will cause issues.

TiBu supports all apps backup, both paid and free.
Paid one does additional tasks like batch restore without prompting for each app and data.

Well your JUST TRYING out a Rom, why even set your phone all the way back up......just load up the essentials and go at it, how fast is the email, how good is the network, browser speed, sound, bugs or whatever....then move on to the next Rom.
i guess some would see that as a lot of work, but if your not willing to do it.....then you will never really see what good and bad with the Rom.
Make Nandroids and Flash away. at the current moment i can swap between, Miui, Cm7, Infused 2.2.3, and even Hellraiser combos in a matter of minutes WITH ALL MY APPS AND DATA by just grabing my nandroid and flashing ( Of course you will want to know that you cant just go flashing any nandroin on top of another nandroids all willy nilly....so make your sure your current Kernel matches up with the nandroid you plan on restoring.

some questions on Roms and apps.

do most people restore system info and all apps of try start fresh and keep only best apps. also do most apps recharge you every month. the lady at att said charge me ninety a month but i can't believe ever bought that many and it shows my sister going over data but claim its Her number gets extra charges. seem right?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
No usually not a good idea to restorr system data. Also no unless you sign up for a monthly subscription. You are only charged one time for an app
i knew that. what about contacts or passwords. dont restore anything no system data? . i knew lady told it wrong. no way apps
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Never restore system data.
And as stated, you only get charged one time for apps.

You should be using Google for your contacts or making backups in the contacts app.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777
You also have the option of exporting your contacts to the sd card.
what about installing other phones or sms programs. do keep originals or best one and replace others

What do u mean by installing other phones? And when you download apps u can keep the origionals.

TiBu backs up my data perfectly fine for all my games (i.e. saved checkpoints, progress, local high scores). Are you sure you're restoring everything properly? I'm not talking down I'm just saying from time to time I don't restore app+data. Every now and then too I need to restore data only after a restore because the data doesn't stick..what games are trying to restore?
Yea I am... games like zenonia (all 3) doesn't back up... I will try the program you use and see what happens... is it better than titanium

hahaha, its all good man! no worries, it is a weird abbreviation. I'm not near my phone (foolishly left it at home) so when I get back to my 2nd love I'll mess around with TiBu and see if there are any settings or something I do specifically that you might not..in the meantime I'll bump this up and see if anyone else who plays that game can shed some insight.
Thanks a lot bro

its actually quite simple.
batch>back up user apps
flash new rom
batch>restore missing apps + data
I do that all the time and it doesn't work....

cool story? tell it again? You don't like to read the thread do you? lolol, OP is having a terrible time with TiBu, I agree though TiBu is the best way to go.
I tried to mess around with other back up apps and nothing seemed to be as user friendly and efficient as TiBu...I got a feeling its got more to do with the game then it does TiBu..sorry mate! Hopefully someone who plays the game can help ya out here!
I happened to have an issue with Titanium also. Was bothered that it did not restore apps to the sd card that were backed up from the sd card. It was brought to my attention that there was a setting in the preferences to do so. I also noticed many other new settings that were not there on a previous release when I looked last. There are a few about backing up app cache and external data that is not checked by default. Take a look in the preferences and there might be a setting to get your games fully backed up.
I'd hate to revive an old thread, but I'm having small problems with TiBu... It restores all save data, except for the online ID.
Do you have the newest version of TB?
I'd recommend you try restoring the app and then the data separately. That seems to work for me if the usual doesn't quite do the trick
Use Tb

Honestly guys I can't. Sorry . I suppose if you weren't switching roms it would be ok. Its just that in my one year history here at xda I have heard from alot of well seasoned users say not to do it. Also I have seen alot of trouble for people that have done it. So I just simply don't do it. Wish I could explain more

backing up and restoring system data is fine if you dont switch roms or even switch to a different version of the same rom (sometimes its ok, sometimes not)
i have done it, but its typically not recommended.

Thx PG, I'm just trying to understand the reason for not doing it... like what problems would occur? Just trying to learn.

Same here. I never backup data. WHY?? Good Question?? What I've seen on XDA, people who do have a lot of issues with force closes etc. I just use it to back up my Apps so I don't have to do them one by one.

if you backup system data from one rom and restore to another, when you reboot you will get nothing but force closes. you will have to reflash your rom to fix it.
if you are flashing the same version of the rom and just want all your stuff the same, it shouldnt affect anything

USER data is perfectly safe to backup. i get sick of so many people spreading untruths around about TiBu (i have seen tons)....backing up and restoring USER DATA AND APPS is perfectly fine. I have been using Titanium Backup for over a year and a half and have had more mobile devices in that timeframe than most have ever had in their lives, and every one of them i was able to use Titanium Backup to restore apps+data from OTHER devices to each other. hell, i share the same TiBu folder between my gs2, incredible s, and my vivid right now. then i have a modified version of the same folder for my galaxy tab (removed all phone-related apps)
^^^^^ this
I've migrated app backups through 3 different android phones, no problems. As for system data, bad idea. Entering your email address is far easier than reflashing a rom because of fc's

there is a free market app called My Backup that has a non-root version, it will backup your data and apps separately. it works pretty well, and will backup your app data. it can sometimes be flakey restoring all your apps, but it mainly works. i've found it flawless for data such as sms/mms, bookmarks, call log, etc
edit: just make sure to save your backup in a safe place, like a physical sdcard if you have one in your device, or your computer, since the unlock wipes your device. if i remember correctly, the app will store your backup in a folder called rerware/MyBackup..... something like that
If your not rooted it doesn't do app data. For not being rooted it does have a lot of nice options for sms, mms and such that a lot of apps mess up so its still a nice find.
