Undervolting problem - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

So Im using teg overclock to undervolt my phone, everythings fine(seriously seems like 35% more battery life) except 1 thing. The phone freezes and restarts ONLY when im on the web while not running anything else in the backround. Absolutely nothing else will freeze the phone, only that-
My question is, is there any way to know what clock its running at while on the web? Ive tried randomly adjusting and I cant seem to find which of the 5 clocks is causing the problem.

What are your current values?
FYI... something's always running in the background

I had the exact same problem as you when I first started undervolting. I used dsexton's values from the undervolting thread and my phone would be fine, then it would freeze whenever I used the web browser. So I increased all the voltages by a small amount (I did 20 mV, but your mileage may vary) and that solved the problem. All phones have different tolerances for undervolting.

Try using the values i modified and posted on dsextons thread, they work amazingly.

Would setcpu work in this case just to lower clock speed of the phone? I'd like to lower it when the screen is off.

yea, if you're rooted, setcpu works without any problems. I have my at 1000 mhz min & max but you can set it however you like

It works, but you have to re run it every boot up, because it gets confused (you'll see an error when you run it after a reboot)
Gotta wait for a real update to it to support the stock kernel correctly.

Mine doesn't wake up when in conservative...

What governor are you using? Per directions of app, I try conservative but the phone never wakes up when using a sleep/conservative profile. Same thing happens with the superpower app with or without OnDemand force.

I have the same problem, I've tried a few different setups/governor settings and I still get the same issue. I have to pull the battery to get the phone to turn back on. Also I think the phone actually shuts off, according to an app called System Panel after I rooted and set up setcpu the phone shutoff shortly after I went to bed for the night.
same problem. I set min 100 max 400 for screen off profile, never wakes up.
On the epic, 100mhz is too low for the phone to wake up so 200 is the min
Snce the ns uses a humingbird, that might be the problem too
Try conservative on 200min 1000max and see if it'll wake up

OS Monitor puts the cpu at 100,000khz - 1,000,000khz and shows it changing so yes stock will do it too. However, what they want to do is make sure that, at certain times, the cpu can't reach its full speed and that stock will not do
there is a new version of set cpu 2.10
did anyone try it?
on 2.04 it was still acting crazy
I was having the same issues with the phone never waking up -even with the most updated version of setCPU- and having to pull the battery to get it back on so I uninstalled. However, I flashed the Team Whiskey ROM with the 1.3Ghz kernel and it has been rock solid since. I've overclocked the processor to 1.3Ghz while awake and using on demand governor with 200mhz min/400mhz max when sleeping. No problems so far.
SetCPU 2.10 works properly on Nexus S
just confirmed, it doesn't show weird numbers anymore

Anyone having issues with setcpu

It worked fine on infused now that I'm running infused 2.0.0 ill set my 2 profiles (screen off and while charging) if my screen is off my phone wont wake up, nothing happens even if I hook my charger up to it. I have to pull battery in order for my phone to wake up. I've disabled my profiles and phone works fine, its just a little odd. Any ideas?

I'm currently running v2.0 and I have a screen off setCPU profile and am experiencing no problems. However, I am not necessarily experiencing better battery life or performance. I think I'm going to run juice defender for a while and see if I can find anything different. For now, I don't even know if I would use setCPU is the best advice I can give.

Don't set any profiles with frequencies below 800, will cause an SoD. Netarchy has a fix for this, and the fix is in the reference kernel git repo, but I don't think anyone has released a compiled kernel with the fix yet.

Nexus s is getting warm

Hello!
My nexus s i getting very warm sometimes, im on kang milestone (stock kernel) is this normal?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
yes, we all get hot and battery drops faster when this happens.
i think its the cpu governor and clockspeed.
if you put alot of apps on its prossess then it wil work faster, faster = frition. friction=hot. hot= battery drain at a faster rate. dead batt= xda question theads more threads= cramped order. cramped order= more cliick and seeing more ads. all us seeing more ads= more money for xda. xda=thrives off newbies
welcome. we are xda.
But is that normal? Can you recommend any rom that doesn't do that?

Ignore him
It's likely to heat up your phone when playing 3D games, using GPS an the like. Depends on what you are doing with the phone. Also, if you use OC it might get hotter than usual. If you think it's heating beyond any limits, try going back to stock for a couple of days, then if it does the same thing, consider hardware issues.
Is the screen getting warm even with minimal use? I had similar issues with cm7 once when I forgot to do my wipes.
Same with mine mate, few minutes on 3g with full brightness and u can start frying eggs on display screen.
I've found out that it's not happening when my brightness is adjusted at about 50%.
Just wondering how many of u, have set up their phones in auto-brightness mode, cuz i don't see to many post on this forum, regarding overheating issue with nexus s ...

I keep mine in auto-brightness, haven't had this problem.
That's strange, I'm running AOSP+ and Eugene's kernel, not overlocked or anything.
I found with some of these ROM using auto brightness just made it dim and go bright crazy. Either way. I found as bad as it sounds a fresh install the best thing. Titanium backup, sms restore, and then wipe everything clean. Solved all the hassles
Mine has gotten warm with heavy use since I got the phone.
If your running voodoo and have your gamma sliders boosted to hell and back, this also will make the phone run *quite* warm.

Anyone else havin issues with OC n UV on PJB?

For some reason whenever i try to change any settings they revert back to default on their own. Ive tried multpile different OC apps n it happens in all of them. This some weird kernel bug?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA
Voltage control or setcpu are good ones to use. There is an option to set it on boot. Also there is a known issue when you plug in the phone to a usb port on the computer it will switch it to ondemand. Make sure you only have one installed. One could be correctly applying it then another switching it back.
Ive tried them both (seperately) n get the same result. I set things up the way i want, hit apply, save it to boot, and within an hour or so it goes back to default. And my phone hasnt bee plugged in to usb in a few days so thats the problem. Whats weird is that this was not always an issue. It started when i flashed the TS PJB combo.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA
I'm using PBJ 0130 with Eclipse v1.3. I'm using SetCPU to overclock to 1300MHz and undervolt accordingly. I haven't had any issues with the overclock/undervolt reverting itself.

Why is my phone always hot???

My phone is literally hot all of the time. After about a minute of use it will become rather warm in my hand, no matter what ROM, kernel, or if I'm on JB or ICS. Oh and it didn't used to be this way. What's up guys? And suggestions to fix it?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Do you have a kernel that let's you OC if so the processor could be above 1.5ghz which would cause this. Try setcpu if you find it running higher

Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Our phone gets noticeably hotter than most phones because of the processing power. You gotta figure that our phones are running at a higher RPM than most others. Hot/warm is normal when you're actually using your phone. I recommend downloading an app like system tuner to check the actual degrees. I run about 120 F for a CPU temp when doing things on my phone which is normal. I've been told that a cpu temp of 150+ is when you need to worry and unplug and remove the battery etc to let it cool. Battery temps are normaly 109F and I've never seen mine go higher than that.
My first phone always got warm with minimal use. My replacement not so much.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Your phone may be defective, or you have a bad kernel, or maybe even an odd battery.
In any case, I suggest closing all background apps every couple of hours and maybe even undervolting your CPU when your screen is off to keep it cool.
It could be the rom... try clearing ram... or try underclocking the cpu
Sent from my SGH-I535 using xda premium
hey there, i happened to see there is a solution about hot phone issues, check it out http://forum.ksmobile.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=8&highlight=hot
I happen to be that problem and I observe it after a several flashing of Custom Rom and alll I notice is it depends on the Rom you flash and it's kernel or if you are on the stock rom, it supposed to be that your apps including background apps are drinking the juice of your battery. You can try Greenify to limit the background apps
